Project
General | Posted 17 years agoHm, I'm quite tired of drawing obscure symbolical comics so I'm thinking of setting myself on to a whole new project.
Before I do, however, I'd like to ask you people who more or less watch me (rethorically speaking) something:
Would you be interested in taking part in the creation of the story? I was thinking of drawing a comic page by page, asking the readers suggestions on what is going to happen next. The fact is that I have often found out that what stops me during the creation of a story is that I know how it begins, how it should end, but never what should happen in between...
So, people, what do you think?

Arnold stode defiantly, or at least trying to look defiant, towards the two riders who were trying to calm down their horses bewildered by the firewall that appeared so abruptly in front of them. Stopping at some distance he bellowed:
"Hand over all your belongings and we might spare your lives!"
He silently congratuled with himself for the emphasis on the "might", but his high spirits were rapidly being replaced by a growing discomfort as he watched the two supposed victims managing to calm the horses with not a visible trace of fear. He gestured for John e Slim to come out of the thicket and advance; it wasn't supposed to happen this way, they should be apprehended at the situation and, more or less at this point, the bodyguard should begin to show the first signs of self-confidence-loss that in Arnold experience were common in a "three-against-one" situation. He gave a better look at the armored men.
"Has he always been that... massive?" As Arnold's two companion came nearer, weapons at hand, the huge armored figure dismounted "Are those on his helm huge horns?" they didn't look like the kind of horns smiths put on helms to make them look more intimidating; these horns had a strange feeling about them, a slightly maleficent feel... perhaps he should call back John and Slim...
Arnold isn't sure of what happened next, he just knows that it happened really fast.
He remembers watching the warrior drawing a huge axe and in the same swift movement bringing it in a round high swipe. His memories are a bit clouded from this point: he thinks he heard a sound, like a thunderclap, and then a birght flash of light followed by the swoosh of something heavy rushing past. When he got his sight back he wished he hadn't: Jhon was a blackned charcoal shape several tens of metres from where he stood while Slim's lower half was still standing in front of the terrifying man, his upper half won't be found ever again.
He was wretched away from his mesmerized-by-dread state by a voice chanting unearthily words, he looked up and saw the most evil and malevolent eyes he's ever seen. The other rider -still on the saddle- pointed a finger at him and he felt a sourge of magic rushing through him, draining his body of all his strenght.
His sword clattered to his feet as he began to wonder not if he would survive the night -he felt it an absurd question- but, merely, if he'd feel much pain before the end. The other man dismounted, and approached him holding a staff; he raised it and then Arnold saw no more.
Arnold awoke some time after. The sun was high and it shone on a gold piece near his face.
And what is this? you might ask. I merely wrote a random encounter of my last D&D session from the point of view of the bandits. 82 points of damage in one single attack are quite impressive.

General | Posted 17 years agoThe distant clip-clop of hooves was the only thing that could be heard on that eerie night. Arnold begun tap dancing on the spot in a futile attempt to warm his feet, it was almost winter and on the northern borders of Falgras wood the temperature dropped considerably at night.
A thump and a muffled imprecation came from the road not far from his hiding spot within the thick bushes, he hoped to block the road by setting fire to a line of dry grass his henchmen had previously positioned, but if they kept falling asleep and dropping from the (fortunately) low branches of the nearest tree it'll be impossible to catch the travellers by surprise. The travellers... his scout spotted them gallopping at a considerable speed, two men, one armor-clad and the other with an air of importance about him; he figured them to be some sort of heralds, it should be too difficult to have the upper hand on them, and maybe this time he could make enough money to leave this wretched life, his bones were growing a bit too old for all this humidity.
Judging by the sound that the riders were close enough Arnold stepped out of his cover.

Guadagno una compagnia, ne perdo un'altra;
migrano questi uomini stanchi.
e vedo diligente certezza nell'uomo qui appresso.

Piazza Fontana
Una foglia mi cade indosso;
Cosa desidero?
un uomo, asiatico, s'affretta
Cosa desidero?
zaino in spalla, attraversa la piazza
Cosa desidero?

Names
General | Posted 17 years agoLately I caught myself using in a sentence the following statement:"[...] from a Schopenaurian-romantic view of life [...]".
That made me wonder what implies the use of one such expression, because I realized that it was hard sounding, obscure and somewhat elitarian, and this left me bewildered, for I wasn't speaking of anything otherwordly, quite the contrary, it was a simple everyday concept that everyone comprehends: I was talking about feelings, and I believe it's a concept that everyone's aware of, a concept that doesn't require teaching.
Thus, I asked myself what I meant with that seemingly obscure phrase. The answer was simple:
"you know those times when you feel the world's against you, and nothing seems to turn out right? Everyone has those moments, it's only natural, at least I believe it's natural. I stumbled upon those moments in my -or other's- life so often that I think of them as a sort of "something" that exists all by itself. We've always given names to stuff in order to mention it, so by saying "Schopenaurian-romantic view of life" I'm simply naming that kind of moments. The problem is that -as human lenguage goes- in order to understand what you are indicating, the person you are talking to have to know the link between the indicator -namely the name- and the indicated thing -namely the named one-."
I reckon that we must try to be communicative, but we should not stop and shiver in uneasyness in front of big words, because often they are nothing but magnifying glasses that make small things look humongous. Often the answer is far easier than the expected.
Also, that vase is calling me names. I think I shall go and smash it right now, see U.

R: I didn't... or so I thought it was. Since I met you I couldn't help but think of you, I thought it strange: how could we possibly be meant to be? so I thought to give your gloves back, to end it all, but as soon as I left them I came to realize that I would have sooner parted from my eyes, and felt like indeed I had forfeited life. How foolish of me to weigh cold logic more than my own heart.
Y: More foolish still to allow youself to fall for the likes of me; my lady...
R: Surely if our path hadn't crossed that eve I would have had a simpler life, but never a better one.
Y: I cannot...
R: I don't own my destiny any more; be wary of this.
Y: ...I cannot lie to you, no more than I can lie to my own soul. I feel the same burning desire in my breast, and never have I felt more wretched then when I received the gloves. I have known fear, death, aye, I've had my share of horrors, but nothing's worse then the loss of a piece of ourselves. I'm helpless now, but I've never felt better in my whole life.
