A Day in the Life of Roxxit
Posted 8 years agoPaw at phone until alarm goes off
Shamble into kitchen and try to make coffee without making a huge mess
Fail
Make coffee
Give the cats a good morning pat on the head
Plant myself computer
Start illustration work for the day.
Sip coffee
Oh wow! the world is full of color again!
Continue the day as one of the living instead of the undead.
Go back to bed.

Finally, Some good news
Posted 9 years agoI'm full to busting with some serious joy right now. I'm very happy to say that life is awesome and I have amazing friends who make it that way. <3
This weekend I got to spend some time with
and
. It was so much fun and I can't wait to go visit again.
imnotwithreal is awesome and forgave me for missing out draw pile date, but I'm looking forward to our next one. And soon I get to hang with the lovely
and
and get an education in moonshine. Now all I need is an evening to catch up with you guys and I'll be perfectly happy.
In the realm of bizarre, yet exciting, I get to go see naked- yes naked- magicians perform illusions with a friend I haven't been able to hang out with for a while. LOL I'll have to let you know how that experience goes.
Beyond that, my horror blog is going awesome, it officially turned 1 year old today! And I'm so excited to see how much it's grown and how much I've learned since starting it.
And last but most certainly not least, my family is happy and healthy right now and I successfully landed myself a fantastic part-time job. My friends who are fighting cancer, are holding out strong, and I'm so proud of how they are handling the experience.
I know there are some storm-clouds brewing out there. Since there's still drama on the family front. But, at least, it's quiet for the moment. And for that I am grateful.

Illness, Filming, and Part-Time Jobs
Posted 9 years agoWow. Life man, life. It never stops coming does it? Until, of course... it does... *awkward crickets*
Anyway. Here's what's going on:
My Grandmother ended up in the ER last week because her insulin levels were staying dangerously high, but they were able to get everything balanced back out and now she's being released, probably to a nursing home. Which is incredibly frustrating for her because she'd been living on her own up until now and she's still sharp as a tack. But the other folks who live in the nursing home are mostly crippled by alzheimer's. She just can't seem to keep her insulin levels under control these days even though she's been meticulous with her diet and eating schedule.
My uncle, the one my mom rescued, will be getting out of rehab in a week or so and then we have to figure out the next steps. He is still unemployed and homeless at the moment, so everyone's trying to figure out how to get him an apartment and some job interviews. It's hard to help when you're half a country away, but I think we'll get it figured out, and hopefully one of his sons will be able to take him in for a bit. More on that as it progresses.
I found out that two of my friends have cancer, one in his throat which is very treatable, and another in his spine which is baffling the doctors but his is winning the fight against. We'll call throat friend Marv and Spine friend Toto. Marv is dealing with it ok, although there has been a lot of things in his life that he's needed help with. So on Sunday my husband went up to help him clean up the damage a burst pipe did in his house. I was working, but we're going to head by up again soon. Toto is doing incredibly well and has a benefit coming up this weekend that we're attending to help raise funds for his treatment and daily bills since he hasn't been able to work at all while he's been recovering. Thank God they're both doing ok. As long as they keep positive and keep fighting I think we'll beat it.
On the upside I've managed to get a couple part-time jobs to help myself out financially.(because that was getting particularly rocky as well.)
I took a gig as the props m asterfor a commercial shoot where the communication between team members was atrocious, and they expected me to pay out of pocket for everything. Umm $2,000 out of my pocket. Right... I keep that right next to a stack of rubies I carry around to use as paperweights. I quickly let them know that I can't felicitate since I don't have any financial wiggle room right now and zero credit cards. Which is true but also, it's such a rookie mistake to pay out of pocket! You end up in small claims ourt every other project if you do that. Not worth the risk. Especially for a company I've never worked with before, who gets angry if I message them more than once a day. *raised eyebrow*
Other than having only 3 days to purchase and make all of the props, the bad communication, and the company's credit card being declined, the shoot itself went really well. The director was super laid back and the actors were a great bunch. Also, I made some freaking adorable fake sliders and french fries for one of the scenes. Most of the days was a cake walk since it was all green scene. I just have a few more things to return and then I can wave cheekily goodbye to that project. Although, the $300 a day rate is a very nice addition to my very empty bank account. So, worth it in the end.
I also got the part time job at the sewing machine gallery I'd applied for! Which I'm am stoked to now be a part of and intimidated at the same time.
I thought I knew a decent amount about sewing, but now that I'm in a place where all types of sewers come in, I've discovered I have a lot to learn. Quilting for one, knowing what these stunning embroidery machines are capable of for another. (the answer is a ton. I'm in love with this line of machines. I can't wait to save up enough to get one for myself.) So, there's a lot to learn here, but I'm excited for the journey and I just need to keep reminding myself that I have a lot to offer. For example, all of the top of the line machines are half computer and use design software to program the embroidery, I've already got a handle on the basics of that program, now I'm learning some of the more complex functions. So I've valuable when it comes to the digital age stuff Also, my youtubing skills are going to come in handy, so even though there's a lot I know, I just need to remind myself that I also have a lot to offer. And as long as I keep educating myself and sell a few machines along the way. I'll be fine.
What else... Oh! My production designer friend finally convinced me to come help her out on the TV show she's working on. I've been really cautious about taking any film work because of how burnt out and sick I got working on projects in the past, but I wouldn't be in charge of anything, and I'm only day playing for 4 days when she needs the extra help, so it should be ok. We'll see... That commercial shoot reminded me of why I left film in the first place. Less than a day into pre-production I reverted right back to the exhausted, panic-driven creature I was two years ago. I used to let stress really get to me. Lots and lots of crying to be had... Not anymore.
Although I did get wound up about the money and the lack of basic answers (when are we shooting? what's the budget? How do I get access to said budget? Oh, the "green screen" is actually white so all of these white props I was planning on buying would be the worst possible choice? Ok... good to know.) I was able to calm myself down, thanks to a reminder from my mate about the value of the shoot in the grand scheme of things. I'll do the best work I can, but if they hate the work I do the most they'll do is yell at me and then never hire me a again. NBD.
I just don't ever want to live my life as a big ball of stress living on an emotional roller coaster any more. So, I choose not to.
I have my blog, which is finally making some money, (yay affiliate marketing!) My relationship with my friends, family, and husband is stronger than ever. I have this new part time job that is stretching me and teaching me new things. I now have 2 podcasts I co-host, and last, but absolutley not least, I have you guys in this beautiful fluffy fandom cheering me on. So, sorry for the long ranty post, but thank you for being here, and thank you for listening.
*hugs*

When your life sounds like the plot to an action movie
Posted 10 years agoSo... life is a crazy thing and thankfully, in my case, it seems to be balancing out on the side of good. *knocks on wood*
Let me tell you a story that doesn't sound real, yet somehow has happened. I still don't even believe it myself.
Six month's ago, my uncle, who'd suffered a lot of tragedy in his life (divorce, death of loved ones, serious injury, lost his job, and was almost homeless) started asking for financial help from my Grandmother. Obviously he deserved a little help, so she started sending him money for rent and food. $10,000+ later he goes missing. His rent hadn't been paid in months and no one, not even his sons had seen him. Yet, we get a Christmas card from him signed by a mysterious woman none of us had ever heard about. A private investigator was hired and managed to track him down. My mother, concerned for his safety, flew across the country to find him- with only the help of the PI she'd hired. The week before she was scheduled to fly over, the PI lost my uncle's trail, but she went anyway. The day after she landed they found him and rescued him with the help of the local police. He was beat-up and had obviously been abused for a fair stretch of time and drugged to the point of needing to be brought to the hospital. He survived his withdrawls in the ER and was checked into a rehab center where he will be recovering for the next month and a half.
Yeah...
All I can say is that I am so proud of my mom. She was so incredibly brave, and smart about how she went about trying to get my uncle back. She did everything from go into disguise when she landed to swapping out rental cars repeatedly to protect herself from being followed by the people who were holding my uncle, well... hostage.
The same day my Uncle was rescued, my sister-in-law went into labor earlier than expected. Her labor went really well and incredibly quick. My new niece was born and I held her in my arms for the first time that day. She was born healthy, with all her beautiful tiny fingers and toes and my sister-in-law is doing well.
To whomever or whatever is protecting my family, thank you. This last month was a scary place, between all of this (and more... ) family stuff and my brushes with severe food allergy reactions in the past few weeks, but things are coming back around.
This weekend I scrapped together enough money to go to ANE and between all the hugs, smiles, reconnecting, and dancing, I feel like a whole new fluff. I know I have been disappearing a lot in between posts, but I think it's because I hate to share bad news or bad energy. So whenever I can't be bouncy and joyful I retreat, and bury myself in busy-work. (Which, for those of you who follow my human exploits I'm sure you've seen the uptick in activity over there.) I know there are a few of you who have been hurt by this tendency of mine, for that I am sorry. It was not my intention to neglect my friendships, I just hate to push my hardships, frustrations and fears on others. Although, that's what friends are there for. But it's a very deeply baked trait of mine.
I can write about it all now because I am feeling so much more hopeful, invigorated and alive again. And to everyone I met or hung out with, or talked to this weekend, you all played a huge part in bringing me back. Thank you. I seriously love you all even though I don't tell you enough.

SO close to Christmas ^.^
Posted 10 years agoI love so many aspects of Christmas, once December has actually arrived that is. And this year I just feel so blessed.
After all of the turmoil that happened earlier this year, life is actually pretty good.
I'm grateful for my friends, my health, my family, and for the journey I've been taking in my career. (ie. totally shifting focus and finding a new path).
Thank you guys for being here for me. And I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, winter solstice, Hanukkah, or whatever way you celebrate, I wish you all a happy one.
xoxo

Whoot! Back before a month slipped by!
Posted 10 years ago*in invader Zim voice* Progress! Has been made!
I've even just about gotten my fluffy butt into gear enough to have time for fur-art again! it's been too too long. Although I did an illustration of a big ol' fox adventurer for a book's new edition. It's called "Carrot Field" in case you're interested, but my artwork isn't publicly attached to it yet. In good time.
What do you guys have planned for holiday-time?
I have the usual weird bouncing between the two sides of my family (Mate's side and my side) but I'm also going to do a "Deck the Halls with Booze and Painting" at my co-op soon. I just need to get my paints in order and invite some folks.
I want to drink some cider (spiked or regular, hardly matters to me. I called it "Booze and Painting" because that sounded closer to "boughs of holly,") and paint a mural in the hallway of my apartment building as a way to help everyone de-stress before the Christmas Chaos commences.
That and I'm hoping the MA furbowl/zootopia screening with Quynn and Devin works out. Because fuzzy fun!!
Anyway, hugs to you all! **hugs**

Seriously, time makes no sense to me right now.
Posted 10 years agoHow can 3 months have disappeared since my last post?!
*flops on the floor and rolls around*
Whatever, life continues to pull me along in it's riptide or wonder but at least things have gotten significantly better.
My grandmother is doing well, she's healing up nicely. And I even got to go down to South Carolina to visit her!! My niece to be will be a real- out in the world baby - in a little over a month.
And despite all of the stress and the lack of time as the holidays trample nearer, I've actually been able to see some furends recently. Quiver, Prance, and Ace, you guys are fantastic <3 and your company was entirely worth the several hours journey north. Quynn and Dev, what time I can steal you for I'm always grateful to have <3
I can't wait to come visit again!
Blogging life/ art commissions on my non-fuzz side of this is going well. Although I've somehow added even more to my plate.
I'm now in charge of the blog for the MAC650 art gallery, and my little side-project blogs are getting the attention they need again - one's a sci-fi/fantasy/anthro art/books blog, and the other has to do with art and design.
But it's all good busy-ness. I just want to make sure I pop over here more than once every couple of months. Because not doing so is totally ridiculous.
XOXO

*peers up out of hole*
Posted 10 years agoHi there, wow, has it really been over a month since I popped by?
*warning, heavy content*
So much has happened since we last spoke. So much that, writing it all down in one place makes it all sound ridiculous. By hey, life kind of just throws everything at you all at once doesn't?
Death has been hovering near of late.
A friend's grandmother passed away, another friend's mother committed suicide, and an 18 year old kid I've been working with on and off for the last 4 years also committed suicide. Other friends are dealing with serious illnesses in their families, and friendships outside of my circle of desperate chaos are fraying. My Grandmother fell and fractured her spine too weeks ago, but thankfully her surgery went well and she is doing fine. But My mother is not really handling the stress of these last couple close calls very well. Not that close calls should be easy to deal with, ever.
So there's been that.
But on the total opposite end there are some beautiful, wonderful things happening. I found out I'm going to have a new niece in a few months! My sister-in-law is pregnant with her second child and that little sphere of my world has become so full of hope and light.
And as all of this has been swirling around me I've done what I tend to do, pour my entire energy into work. Which currently means blogging and trying to get my traffic up enough so I can monetize my site, and actually start having my own income again. So, because of my tireless obsession with the site, it's grown beautifully in the last- wow 2 months. I can't fathom time at the moment, because every day seems so long, and every week seems so fast, and the whole concept of two months both feels like an eternity and nothing at all at the same time.
It's also weird because, as I look back at the thousands of words I have written in the last few weeks, you'd probably not know. I try so hard to stay focused on the positive and shut away the things that hurt. But here, *shrugs* here I don't mind being a little more introspective.
I think about you guys a lot. I miss having the time to spend on here talking to you all and sharing in the joy of creation. I'll never fully disappear, but it does seem my visits, at least for the time being, will continue to be irregular.
I know I promised [iconRiski_saffie] and [iconchubeko4] some artwork and I will get to them before the end of this month. I haven't forgotten you guys <3
But after that I'll be closed for commissions etc. until I can get my schedule balanced out again. Mostly, I'll just be climbing out of my hole and checking in on you guys every so often.
*hugs*
Oh, and I did finally install skype on my phone, so if you guys feel like chatting hit me up with a PM for my skype handle.

Posted 10 years agoWell, apparently I've been bounding around like a crazed Roxxit getting all wrapped up in the season. But I'm trying to get my time here worked back into my schedule. Life's just been a little crazy lately. One of my uncles passed away, my cousin's town (literally hours ago) got hit by a tornado- they're ok though, and work's been picking up faster than I can keep up. Oh and I'm the world's worst bridesmaid for my friend who getting married in... less than 2 weeks now. I have to finish inviting all of her friends out to a place I have yet to pic for the Bachlorette party tonight.
Yeah, my head's been spinning.
As I sit here writing I feel like there's so much more I should fill you guys in on, but I'd rather not just have another list journal so I'll just say that the good has been balancing out the bad and I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of my new schedule. So now I can spend at least a night a week on here with you guys. I'm thinking Wednesdays right now. Wednesdays are good. No filming the next morning, nothing due that evening. It's a lull I need to fill with fuzz-time.
Anywho, I missed you guys. How are you doing?

Posted 10 years agoBeen a good but busy busy week.
I'm getting ready for a concert tomorrow (i'm hosting and recording, not performing-- thankfully). Although I need to finish prepping my gear and getting my costume all ready to go. Need to dye my hair too... So much to do!! I'm tapping inot that energizer bunny mode today to get all of my tasks done in time.
Otherwise, this week I've been writing up articles, scheduling interviews and several trips starting - gulp- tomorrow. But I'm so excited! i get to leave my state boundaries! Multiple times!! Who knew two months of sitting around nursing my knee injury would make me go so stir crazy...
Anywhoo, I should have one or two pieces done/revised today, but I'll catch back up with my art posting pace next week when the extra tasks have been caught up on.
I hope you guys are enjoying the energy of spring as well. ^.^

Go to sleep Fei! No. no i will not...
Posted 10 years agoI have a pretty serious addiction to working it seems... But that's not super surprising I suppose... But really, it's 4am right now while I'm writing this. Even my cat's telling me it's time to go to bed.
Eh, I'd rather talk to you.
Anyway, it's been a while since I mentioned any of my non-fur projects and since you guys are the reason I'm still (moderately) sane I figured I'd share a little more.
I'm currently building a new site to call home for my horror blog: horrormade.com
Over there I review horror books, movies and comics, post a bunch of my original flash fiction and artwork, interviews with artists and filmmakers and other random dark things that entertain me.
I'm on youtube doing reviews of horror books, comics, and movies. And doing let's plays my mate and I call "Watch Us Die." It's were we purposely stink at survival horror videogames. ok, full disclosure, He does it on purpose, I just genuine stink. lol
Outside of horror, I just started a sci-fi/fantasy book blog on twistedbubblebooks.com - that project's in super baby-mode because i only just made the site erm... this weekend I think.
And then there's the concert in Worcester MA I'll be helping run on free comic book day. God that's coming up soon... I'll let you know those details when they get a little more solid.
Oh! and speaking of comic books! I'm working on a project I hope to start sharing with you guys soon. It's an anthro graphic novel I'm teaming up with
imnotwithreal to make.
And I've got it in my head that I want to put together a furry art show to happen when furpocalypse comes to town. Because how amazing would an art show full of fur art and suiters be?!!
Ok... I feel better after sharing all that. I'm going to go argue with my pillow now. I fully anticipate hitting it hard.. with my face... as i lose consciousness... you get it.
Goodnight you wonderful fluffs.

So... New 'sona or Facebook?
Posted 10 years agoI'm kind of a madwoman when I get behind a camera so I'm thinking I seriously need to start another account here on FA for my photography or start a facebook page for it.
What do you think would be best?
Side note, I do so wish I could separate things into different gallery folders on this site. It would make a world of difference.

Winners, please comment or note me with a reference picture.
Also, thank you, thank you, thank you! to everyone for all of the favs! Normally I thank everyone personally on their page, but there were just to many to handle during the fursuit flood.
