Oct 22, 2022 - Recent Site Attacks
General | Posted 3 years agoFur Affinity has recently been the target of an attack by individuals posting graphic content. We have reported the content to the authorities and are actively working on additional measures to prevent these actions from happening further.
Some of those actions include:
-- Working to implement automated systems to review and flag the graphic content before it is posted.
-- Registration was closed the moment we were made aware, and will remain closed until the automated systems are implemented.
-- We made additional changes to the way our internal systems flag accounts of suspicious activity to prevent their content from being displayed.

Sept 5, 2022 - Autumn Preview + Upload Policy Update
General | Posted 3 years agoWe're finalizing our autumn site update!
Here’s a small preview of some of the zesty changes rolling out:
- UI improvements
- Native high-resolution file support (no more “edit submission” needed!)
- Customizable profile banners
- Standardized and vastly improved writing support
Some of these changes require additional hardware investment, for more robust long-term storage. The costs are estimated between $20-40K at this time (we're currently waiting on hardware estimates), and will give us room for other improvements too. Want to help support upcoming upgrades? Consider signing up to FA+, and get some perks in the process!

We’ve made some changes to Fur Affinity’s Upload Policy. The changes are outlined below:
Users may post reminder submissions so long as they meet the following requirements:
-- One (1) submission used as a reminder may be uploaded per 24 hour time frame. This limit applies to all accounts owned by the creator.
-- Submission rating must match the highest content rating of the submission(s) being promoted.
-- Reminders may not be posted on behalf of other creators.
-- Reminder submissions must comply with all other rules in the Upload Policy (e.g. UP 2.9 Duplicate Content). Attempting to bypass these limitations may result in escalated penalties.
Reminders are now limited to one (1) per day.
Fur Affinity is a gallery-focused site with a mission of giving furry and anthro artists a long term home for their creations. Creators rely on FA to drive business to their crafts and commissionable work. We love to help facilitate this and to see people create, build, design, sing, and write.
There are too many reminder posts on the site. New work is being buried in submissions, and we want to give everyone’s art a fair chance at being seen! We’ve received a lot of reports and feedback about the problem, and today we’re acting to address it.
We’ve found that users aren’t interacting with reminder submissions. They’re not getting views, so they aren’t doing the artists posting them any good, either! Most users ignore them, and they become a cloud of noise that doesn’t do anyone any good. We understand that artists are trying to build their audience, and we want to work with you. Here are some recommended alternatives to reminder submissions:
-- Tag. List your work in the YCH/Sale category, which will help users find your work through the Browse tool.
-- Build a Gallery. Post sketches, drafts, and finished pieces to show off your creative process. Fill out your gallery! Each creation and finished piece is an example of your artistic skills. People are more likely to commission you if they can see the full process and final product of your hard work.
-- Use Submission Footers. You can add footers to each of your submissions from the Edit Profile page, letting people know you’re available for commission or have works for sale when they view any of your work.
-- Promote Yourself. Post regular updates across social media or FA journals, informing your followers of content and updates.
-- Advertising. We can help your work get seen by thousands of people for a fraction of the price of any other ad platform. This also helps us afford to maintain the site! Staff will continue to monitor the impact reminders have on the site while we work on additional tools to provide sellers better alternatives.
Content lacking artistic merit is not permitted on FA, and includes such items as:
-- Submissions created through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) or similar image generators.
-- Photography focusing on body parts without creative content.
-- Placeholder content with empty documents or blank submissions.
-- Text-only imagery.
-- Content modified to be generally unviewable through use of filters, blurring, or censorship.
Content created by artificial intelligence is not allowed on Fur Affinity.
AI and machine learning applications (DALL-E, Craiyon) sample other artists' work to create content. That content generated can reference hundreds, even thousands of pieces of work from other artists to create derivative images.
Our goal is to support artists and their content. We don’t believe it’s in our community’s best interests to allow AI generated content on the site.

Mar 9, 2022 - Policy Updates, Ad Sales, Promos, & More
General | Posted 3 years agoUpload Policy Changes
We’ve updated the Upload Policy with a few minor changes to make the document easier to read, and to be more specific as to what’s covered. Specific changes below have been highlighted in bold.
2.1 Submissions Used as Reminders
-- Users may post reminder submissions so long as they meet the following requirements:
-- Up to 3 reminder submissions total may be posted within a 24 hour time frame. This limit applies to all accounts owned by the creator.
-- Rating must match the highest rating of the content that is being promoted.
-- Users may not post reminder submissions on behalf of other creators.
-- Reminder submissions must comply with all other rules in the Upload Policy (e.g. UP 2.9 Duplicate Content). Attempting to bypass these limitations may result in escalated penalties.
We’ve simplified our policy on reminders to make it easier to read and understand. With this update, routine abusers will no longer receive a warning about exceeding the limit, and may find their accounts temporarily suspended.
2.8 Content Lacking Artistic Merit
Submissions lacking artistic merit, such as photographs focusing on body parts without creative content, text-only images, empty documents, or that have been modified to be mostly unviewable through the use of filters, blurring, or censorship are not allowed.
We’ve also updated section 2.8 to cover users uploading non-creative images of random body parts or using filters, blurring, or censorship to render their images otherwise unviewable.
While the rules updates are visible now, we will not be enforcing these changes until 14 days have passed (Mar 23) to allow users to have time to bring their gallery into compliance if needed.
Code of Conduct
Additionally, we've made some changes to the Code of Conduct.
3.4 Do not spam.
We do not allow messaging with unsolicited advertising, promotions, or repetitive content that are unintelligible or intended to clutter pages with unwanted content.
Users engaging in excessive spamming as defined above risk having all comments, shouts, and/or notes deleted and receiving a final warning or permanent suspension.
Additionally, we've added a new policy to the Code of Conduct.
3.5 Do not promote crypto currency and NFTs
Fur Affinity does not allow for the promotion of crypto currency or NFT platforms.
Other Minor Upload Policy and Code of Conduct Changes:
-- Minor formatting changes
-- Swapped the wording of “not permitted” to “not allowed”.
-- Modified the suspension times for policy enforcement. Instead of 1 day, 1 week, 1 month it is now 1 day, 3 days, 1 week.
Search Update
We’ve rolled out some additional changes to the search engine, such as additional presets and the ability to search by date range. You can now time travel in style through FA’s upload history, and you don’t even need a Delorean!
Spring Advertising Sale
Until March 25th you can save up to 20% on advertising packages!
The Lil's (300x90)
1 month: $25 | 6 months: $112 | 12 months: $180
The Bigs (728x90 & 300x200)

We’re saving up to expand our storage servers, and increase our long term capacity to support features like MP4 and WEBM video, high resolution file upload support, profile banners, and more!

Feb 7, 2022 - Search Engine Changes, Avatars, & More
General | Posted 4 years agoSearch Engine Changes
We are making some simple, but significant changes to the search engine.
The search engine’s default settings have been updated to show results from the past five years, defaulting by submission relevance. Prior to that, results were pulled from Fur Affinity’s entire catalog of user generated content – over a decade and a half’s worth of content.
This meant newer creators were having a more difficult time than intended getting their content discovered, as they were competing against submissions from over a decade ago. We want search results to stay fresh and relevant, and to benefit newer creators as much as our long-time members.
We’ll be monitoring these changes and will make adjustments as needed/necessary.
New Feature: Customizing Search
We recognize not all users will appreciate the new changes, so fret not, we had you in mind! You can now customize your default search preferences in the Control Panel to work the way you want.
FA+ Benefits: Search Boost
We’ve introduced a new FA+ benefit: supporters of the site will now get a small boost when appearing in search results. Emphasis on small.
Our goal with FA+ has, from the get-go, been to add minor quality of life perks that don’t take away from the existing systems or give paying users distinct advantages but add a “little extra something” as our way of saying thanks for supporting the community.
Search boosts are capped at 5%. This means the benefit of a search boost is low enough it doesn’t give any users any one specific edge, but still has reasonable nudge to help your content get discovered. Which leads us to…
Making Search Work For You
Want to get your content noticed in the search engine? Want your content to be more relevant? Here’s the goods:
Search engine results are measured by “weight”. The more your content pings certain criteria the more likely it is to show in the results. For example, when searching for the word “wolf” our system first looks at the keywords, then the submission title, and then the description.
The system adds the most weight to keywords, so the more accurate your keywords are the higher chances your content will show up in search results. That’s not the ONLY criteria, but if you’re looking to make the system work for you, we encourage creators to take the time to properly keyword their submissions.
Avatar File Size Updates
We have increased the avatar upload limit by 50% for regular users, from 50K to 75K. Additionally, FA+ users can get an increased avatar upload limit of 150K.
We will be monitoring performance and storage requirements, and will consider adjusting avatar limits higher if we are able.
Help Support FA!
We’re a small independent site, and need your help! Want to support the FA? Consider supporting us. As we grow, our goals are to hire an additional coder and, if we raise enough funds, move past third party ad support and go back to 100% community advertising.
But we need your help to do it.
You can support the site and get some perks by following the link at:
https://www.furaffinity.net/plus/
2022 Mini Road Map
Some of the items currently in development:
-- Keyword tag and block
-- Trending pages for most popular submissions
-- Trending pages for “up and coming” content creators to help creators get discovered
-- User page profile banners
-- Interface refinements and improvements
Safety Reminder When Buying YCHes/Commissions
We’ve seen an uptick in sellers requesting payment be sent via “friends and family”. We’d like to remind the community that purchases of this nature waive your ability to request a refund.
We recommend having sellers send an invoice in all instances.
Stay safe, and happy browsing.
Jan 5, 2022 - Furry Musicians' Express Yourself Contest
General | Posted 4 years agoWe're giving a signal boost to our friends at
furry_musicians!
To Submit to the 2022 Express Yourself Contest, please follow this link to our home journal, where we have set up a place to do so!

Hello folks! Puppy here from Furry Musicians announcing this year's Express Yourself Contest! This year we've changed the rules slightly, so make sure you read everything before submitting over on our main journal!
WHAT IS THE EXPRESS YOURSELF CONTEST? WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
The contest is, well, to express yourself through a minute long (or less) musical piece. The first round is a Public Submission Round, meaning anyone can submit a song and so long as it abides to the rules, be considered.
The contest then undergoes a private voting round, where the songs from the Public Submission Round are placed on a rating criteria and at least fifteen are selected to move on. A few, the (5) that were rated the lowest of the top (15) but still show a lot of potential, will enter the Wildcard Round. The remaining, those that scored the highest on our rating criteria, will be moved directly into the Semifinal Round. (2) of the songs in the Wildcard Round will move on to complete the Semifinal Round, making the Semifinal Round the top (12).
Both the Wildcard Round and the Semifinal Round will be publicly voted on by you, the community, over on
furry_musicians when that time comes.
After the Semifinal Round, a Final Round consisting of 5 submissions will occur to pick this year's winning 3. This is also a public voting round. As an outcome to this round, the top 3 submissions will be chosen and prizes given out! If you are an artist interested in contributing to the prize pool, check out the original journal over on Furry Musicians for opportunities!

General | Posted 4 years agohttps://d.furaffinity.net/media/jou.....ver_header.jpgThe Delver’s Guide to Beast World is an upcoming campaign setting and supplement compatible with all Fifth Edition Dungeons and Dragons games. The book has over 300 pages of new content for playing characters in the Beast World: 24 new furry-themed races, 12 new subclasses, and a lot more. There are also rules for customizing the traveling wagons which carry adventurers across this setting, acting as mobile strongholds for your party. Our Kickstarter campaign launches August 31st!
The publisher of The Delver’s Guide is a small team of furries who have been in the fandom for years. We noticed that there aren’t many good options for creating anthro characters in 5e D&D (especially for certain species). We wanted to make a world centered around this aesthetic we all love, while still bringing new ideas to the world of fantasy tabletop.
There are over 30 artists contributing their talents to The Delver’s Guide to Beast World. A few of them are:

And so, so many more. We are passionate about bringing you an awesome tabletop book that will make your game more fun and hopefully improve your life in some small way.
We are doing our best to get the word out about our book, so we are running a HUGE giveaway contest! Your odds of winning are the same no matter how many enter, and we hope to give out a TON of prizes. We have an ad budget for the book that we would much rather spend giving back to our own community.
To enter, all you need to do is be on our email list on August 30th, the day before the Kickstarter campaign launches. Just sign up to get notified when our Kickstarter launches, and you have the chance to get the book for yourself. That’s it! And don’t worry, if you’ve already given us your email, you’re already in the contest.
It gets better, too: if someone you tell about the book puts your email in the “Who Referred You?” box on our website application, you win whatever prize they won, just as thanks for helping us get the word out!

Mar 5, 2021 - Reminders, New FA+ Perks, Thumbnail Tweaks
General | Posted 4 years agoAs of today (March 5, 2021) our new reminder policy is now in effect. As you may remember from our journal announcing the change, we have updated Section 2.1 (Reminders, Advertisements, and Promotions) of the Upload Policy.
As a quick reminder, here is the policy in full with the new changes in bold.
2.1 Reminders, Advertisements, and Promotions
Users may post reminder submissions with the following requirements: The rating must match the highest rated content being promoted. Users may post a total of up to 3 reminder submissions every 24 hours. This limit applies to ALL accounts owned by the user; NOT up to 3 per account. Only one reminder per original sale is permitted in this time frame.
Reminders, advertisements, and promotions must still comply with all other policies, such as Section 2.9 - Duplicate Content, where the image in the reminder cannot be identical to another image on your account.
Reposting submissions in an attempt to circumvent these limitations is not permitted. Attempts to bypass this policy or its limitations is prohibited.
In addition to these changes going live, we also have new tools to help cut down on submissions being removed and reposted in an attempt to bypass our policies. This should help both artists who are trying to get their sales seen while they are following our policies as well as users who are trying to browse non-sale content.
We have identified an issue with thumbnails not always loading immediately and are implementing a 5 second delay before uploads first appear on the front page and the browse section. This should give the time needed for thumbnails to generate properly.
Good news, everyone! FA+ rewards just got a little bit better!
Some new tasty features:
- Browse content faster with up to 128 submissions per page on browse, search, and gallery views
- Get larger, more robust thumbnails up to 300px
- Increased maximum caps on folders (75) and folder groups (30)
- Skip the lines with reduced flood protection on new uploads, notes, and comments
What’s FA+? It’s a way to support Fur Affinity and help fund site development all while getting some spiffy benefits in the process. Sign up today by clicking the following shiny link: https://www.furaffinity.net/plus/
NOTE: As some of these new settings are user togglable they must be manually applied in your Site Settings.
We’ve also made changes to the way YouTube video embeds work in journals. The tag will now recognize more of youtube’s embed URLs and embedded videos will now scale down to fit smaller screens.
As a reminder, YouTube videos can be added to your journals by using the following format:

General | Posted 5 years agoWe have updated Section 2.1 (Reminders, Advertisements, and Promotions) of the Upload Policy. The new change, highlighted in bold below, introduces new limits which restricts users from posting more than 3 YCH reminders in a 24 hour period across all accounts they own.
This new limit goes into effect March 5, 2021. Until then, the previous policy of “Users may post up to 3 reminder submissions every 8 hours.” still applies.
We want to allow users the freedom to promote their work, but we also understand users have been experiencing frustration with the amount of reminder notices. We feel this new change is a fair balance to those wishing to promote their content without risk of spam.

In addition to the sale, we’re proud to unleash our new logo! Designed by

In addition, we've updated the site banner to a fantastic piece done by
korichi! Go give him a shout!
We are taking additional steps to combat misinformation by adding a new Code of Conduct policy. This new policy goes into effect in two weeks time (Feb 15, 2021).
COC 2.8 - Do not promote ideologies harmful to public safety.
Examples include: Covid misinformation, anti-vaccination, QAnon.
Adobe has discontinued use of the Flash player. To preserve 15 years worth of content, Fur Affinity is implementing a Flash emulator called Ruffle.
https://www.adobe.com/products/flas.....d-of-life.html
Ruffle is still in development, and admittedly has mixed results on emulation. Some Flash will simply not work at this time. However, Ruffle’s developers post new builds almost nightly which constantly improves playback and compatibility. We will be keeping Ruffle updated to improve the emulated Flash experience on Fur Affinity.

Jan 8, 2021 - Regarding Capitol Attack
General | Posted 5 years agoOn Wednesday, January 6th 2021, an armed insurrection of Trump supporters directly instigated by the President himself assaulted the Capitol building in an attempt to overthrow America's democratic process. This assault was fueled by conspiracy theories that are not only lacking evidence, but have also been dismissed by courts in over 50 lawsuits. This seditious attack resulted in the desecration of our US Capitol and at least 5 deaths. Lawmakers and experts have identified these rioters as domestic terrorists. We at Fur Affinity agree and will be taking immediate action upon any users or content sympathizing with or promoting this terrorist attack upon our country.
Jan 4, 2021 - #MusicMonday Contest!
General | Posted 5 years agohttp://www.itfeedsonnoodles.com/musicmonday.pngFor this #FAMusicMonday (as you've seen on Twitter) we're doing something different.
are hosting their Express Yourself contest and are open for submissions! Promotions and prizess are available for the winners!Read the rules, then submit your entries over at https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/9730280
* SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED, TENTATIVELY, UNTIL THE 31ST OF JANUARY, 2021
* READ BEFORE POSTING, FOLKS.
Hello, folks! Puppy here. As I alluded to at Christmas, we're going to be taking another crack at The Express Yourself Contest this year. It's been a while, hasn't it?
WHAT IS THE EXPRESS YOURSELF CONTEST? WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
The contest is, well, to express yourself through a minute long (or less) musical piece. The first round is a Public Submission Round, meaning anyone can submit a song and so long as it abides to the rules, be considered.
The contest then undergoes a private voting round, where the songs from the Public Submission Round are placed on a rating criteria (see below) and at least fifteen are selected to move on. A few, the (5) that were rated the lowest of the top (15) but still show a lot of potential, will enter the Wildcard Round. The remaining, those that scored the highest on our rating criteria (again, see below) will be moved directly into the Semifinal Round. (2) of the songs in the Wildcard Round will move on to complete the Semifinal Round, making the Semifinal Round the top (12).
Both the Wildcard Round and the Semifinal Round will be publicly voted on by you, the community.
We are considering two options to facilitate the voting. Stay tuned to see how you can help us decide on this.
After the Semifinal Round, a Final Round consisting of 5 submissions will occur to pick this year's winning 3. This is also a public voting round. As an outcome to this round, the top 3 submissions will be chosen and prizes given (see Prizes below)!
THE RULES
Of course, this contest has rules. Failure to follow any of these rules could lead to your song being removed from the contest, or, in extreme cases, yourself to be disqualified.
Rule 1) Submit all songs for this contest to this journal, and in DIRECT response to the comment below.
Rule 2) Your song must be one minute or less[/u] and every second past one minute will deduce points.
Rule 3) Your song must have been submitted to FA after this journal was posted.
Rule 4) Your song must be PG[/u].
Rule 5) You may submit up to three songs[/u] for the contest.
Rule 6) All genres are welcome[/u] and covers are accepted so long as they diverge from the original.
Rule 7) Your submission must be submitted to FA. FA must be the only place where this submission is found.
Rule 8) You cannot modify your submission in any way after it is submitted to the contest. If you would like to remaster or tweak a song, ask me and I'll fill it in like it's your 2nd or 3rd song slot.
Rule 9) No remixes.
THE RATING CRITERIA
Our panel of judges and I have determined this to be how we will rate your submission and select them for the Semi-Final and Wildcard Rounds.
Technicality: /30
Mixing and mastering: /15
Cohesiveness: /15

Results in a bonus point. Those submitting are encouraged to explain how their submission(s) express themselves in the description of their submission.

Does the artist go over the one minute mark?
PRIZES AND A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY
There's prizes! Not a musician? We would love to work out a way to promote you.
Here's the fun part, ya? Too bad it's still a work in progress. See below for what's already set in stone.

11/23/20 - Coming Soon + Minor Site Update
General | Posted 5 years agoIn Development for 2020
We’ve been quiet on the development font, but we’re happy to announce some new features currently hitting internal testing and coming soon to a Fur Affinity near you.
* Trending Pages - We’re introducing not one, but two new trending pages! A Top 100 Daily Uploads and a Top 100 Daily Uploads by Up-and-Coming Artists. You’ll be able to keep tabs on the spiffiest new uploads every day, all while discovering new artists who are on the rise! It’s our hope that the up-and-coming will help the community discover new artists and help promote their work.
We’re happy to announce that the Trending pages will have been made possible thanks to our FA+ users helping support site development! We appreciate the community’s support.
* UI Improvements - We’ve been going through user feedback, and will be making a quite few changes to the interface for both desktop and mobile. These changes aren’t quite as drastic as our update earlier this year, but refine the site to be more fluid and smoother.
Site Changes
* Black Lives Matter - We’ve added a community resource page to give more information and in our support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
* Advertisement Shuffle - We’ve standardized our advertisement placements on the Modern UI to better promote FA’s community ads, while also removing the interruption between content, submission descriptions, and comments. These changes mirror the ad placements we’ve had on the Classic UI.
We know advertising is not the most exciting update, but as a reminder Fur Affinity is supported almost entirely through ad placements and we greatly appreciate those who choose to white list our advertising. We’ve done a lot of work to ensure our advertising is safe and reliable.
Want to support the site, but don’t like third party advertising? No problem! By subscribing to FA+ for just $5 a month you can support the site and opt out of third party advertising for a 100% community ad-based experience. FA+ subscriptions contribute 100% to site development and support coding development.
For more information FA+ click here: https://www.furaffinity.net/plus/
* Changes to Links - We’ve made some changes to links on specific pages to help make them better stand out.
* Referrer Change - Updated our site referrer information based on user suggestion.
* Navigation Tweaks - We’ve changed the names of some of the Control Panel links (Modern UI only) to make them easier to read.
* Other minor fixes.
10/19/20 - Get Out the Vote!
General | Posted 5 years agoWith only 14 days left until Election Day, your friends at Fur Affinity want to remind you of not only the importance of being registered and ready to vote, but also being informed about the candidates running for office so that you can use your voice to make a difference here in the United States of America.

2. https://www.betterknowaballot.com
3. https://www.votelikeabeast.com
4. https://www.isidewith.com

We will also be adding a link to these resources under "Support" in Fur Affinity's navigation bar in a future update.
With that said, we've been made aware that some do not believe or stand with the movement. Racist slurs, harmful generalizations about racial groups, and harassment on Fur Affinity are a violation of our Code of Conduct. Rather than engage with these people, we encourage you to report them to us via Trouble Ticket.

10/13/20 - Spammer Issues + FA Forums
General | Posted 5 years agoRecently, Fur Affinity has been experiencing an influx of spammers. We're currently implementing measures to reduce their effectiveness. We want to inform users that Fur Affinity will never DM you with requests for passwords, promotions for prizes, or any "special offers". Official communication sent by FA staff can be identified by our staff shield icon before the username (as seen in this journal notice).
We appreciate your patience while our internal kobolds work towards a solution.
In addition, the FA Forums are back online! We apologize for the extended time it took to get the forums back up and running, but they're online once more, and on a new and improved version of XenForo.

9/9/20 - Site Migration Complete + Known Issues
General | Posted 5 years agoWe have completed our server migration to the new server cluster, King Ghidorah. This new platform features all new hardware from top to bottom, oodles of RAM, and a full SSD storage array.
This server upgrade is one of the single largest upgrades in Fur Affinity’s history and has been made possible thanks to the generosity of FA+ subscribers. It will allow us to expand the site and more easily allow us to implement new features over time.
King Ghidorah
112 total CPU cores
1,536GB of memory
153.6TB of enterprise SSD storage
We greatly appreciate your patience during the migration.
Our staff is monitoring the site for performance and stability issues, and are working on a few minor issues (as seen below). We will update the known issues list with changes as needed.
- Micro Outages - The site is experiencing micro-outages under very specific conditions. UPDATED:When these outages occur images will not be visible on the site. This tends to last 30-60 seconds and will automatically resolve. We have determined the cause of this and are investigating a fix.
- Thumbnails - Loading time may vary for thumbnails. The site is currently rebuilding its thumbnail library, and until the rebuild is complete there may be instances where thumbnails take 2-3 seconds to load. This issue will resolve itself once it finishes the rebuild.
- Time Zones - We have reports that custom time zones are not saving for some users after the move. We are investigating.

9/7/20 - Maintenance Complete
General | Posted 5 years agoOur planned server migration maintenance window has been postponed until Sept 9, 2020.
The site will have limited functionality during this maintenance window, and may take an estimated 18 hours to complete as we perform a final data synchronization. During this time users will not be able to upload or delete content, but the site will still be accessible and users will still be able to comment and interact with others as normal.
Because of this extended maintenance we want to give users a chance to plan ahead as needed.
UPDATE 9/9: Site is live. We will be monitoring the site over the course of the day for any performance and stability issues. We appreciate your patience while we moved the site cross country.

9/3/20 - Server Migration Update
General | Posted 5 years agoFur Affinity is moving! On September 7, 2020 Fur Affinity will be transitioning to our previously announced new hardware platform, King Ghidorah -- all new servers, a chonkier bandwidth upgrade, and complete SSD storage across all servers. This hardware overhaul is years in the making, and funded in part thanks to FA+ subscribers.
This upgrade will be one of the largest, most substantial upgrades in the site's history. It will provide faster loading times, make it easier for us to provide new services and features as well as allowing us to implement some quality-of-life changes to help improve the user experience.
Some downtime may be needed to complete the transfer. We have worked to minimize the amount needed as much as possible by pre-loading the website on the new hardware, but we will need temporary downtime to perform a final sync. Downtime estimates will be posted closer to the migration via site announcement and the Fur Affinity Twitter.

Reposting submissions in an attempt to circumvent these limitations is not permitted. Attempts to bypass this policy or its limitations is prohibited.
2.2 Selling
Goods being sold through submissions may only be user-created or handcrafted items. The submission rating must reflect the final product. Sale posts cannot be removed and reposted more than once every 8 hours.
5.1 Disruptive Audio
Audio that is intentionally disruptive (e.g. loud, screeching) is not permitted.

General | Posted 5 years agoNew Hardware
Fur Affinity is currently in the process of rolling out one of our largest upgrades ever! Thanks to FA+ subscribers we’ve been able to invest in a full site hardware upgrade, the largest upgrade in Fur Affinity’s history. Every last server, switch, router, and cable are new.
Introducing King Ghidorah! This new cluster-based server platform is a powerful hydra featuring the following specs:
112 CPU cores
1,536GB of memory
153.6TB of enterprise SSD storage
This new hardware platform will vastly increase site performance, improve thumbnail loading time, and allow us to increase upload sizes and resolutions! We will begin our migration to the new platform over the next month.
Again, thank you to everyone who has subscribed to FA+ to help out the community. This is one of the first major upgrades made possible due to your support. Want to help support FA? Sign up for FA+ here!
Policy Updates
Code of Conduct
Over two years ago Fur Affinity came together with the international community in solidarity against hate by announcing policies to combat hate on our site. These policies have been revisited as needed to ensure Fur Affinity is a safe, welcoming place for our community. As such we are announcing the following changes (effective immediately).
Section 2.7 Do Not Identify With or Promote Real Hate, Terrorist Organizations, Mass Murderers, Serial Killers and Their Ideologies
A hate group is one that advocates and practices hatred, hostility, or violence towards members of a designated sector of society (e.g. Nazism, ISIS, KKK) that are reflected in the real world. Users who identify with or promote real hate or terrorist organizations and their ideologies may be permanently banned from Fur Affinity without warning.
Upload Policy
As our community grows, our policies must also be updated to reflect the changes a larger user base brings. That’s why we’re announcing the following changes (effective immediately).
Section 2.1 Reminders
Submissions used as reminders for sale/promotion are permitted with the following exceptions: The reminder’s rating must match the highest rated content being promoted. Users may post reminders for up to 3 of their own unique sale submissions every 8 hours. Posting to multiple accounts is permitted; however, using them in an attempt to bypass this policy is prohibited.
Reminders must still comply with all other policies, such as Section 2.9 - Duplicate Content, where the image in the reminder cannot be identical to another image on your account.
Section 2.7 Content Involving Minors
Content featuring minors is prohibited when the minor is in the presence of sexual activity, sexual objects, or nudity, though exceptions may be made for non-sexual depictions of birth and breastfeeding. Presence is defined as being in the same scene, such as sharing a comic panel, contiguous image, reference sheet, or specific section of a story where characters are engaging each other.
Minors may not have detailed bulges or outlines of normal or hyper genitalia, clothed or otherwise. Minors may not have their pregnancies fetishized. Minors younger than 13 may not be depicted as pregnant. Minors are real or fictional humanoids with a childlike body or younger than 18 years old, and any adolescent animals.
Section 2.12 - Content Involving Real Hate Groups or Terrorist Organizations
Content which displays imagery, language, or rhetoric associated with real world hate groups (e.g. Nazism, ISIS, KKK), terrorists, mass murderers, or serial killers is prohibited.
Section 5.1 Disruptive or Sexual Audio
Content containing sexual or obscene sounds is prohibited unless part of a relevant animation or loop. Audio that is intentionally disruptive (e.g. loud, screeching) is not permitted.
Questions
Why use the term “real” hate or terrorist organizations?
It is important to differentiate between real organizations and fictional ones such as Hydra (Marvel), COBRA (G.I. Joe), The Foot Clan (TMNT), or the Death Eaters (Harry Potter).
What about fictional content that I find offensive?
Fur Affinity provides a platform for our users to exchange ideas and works of art that include a variety of different themes. We understand that some users may create content that is political, religious, or incorporates themes that may be perceived as offensive. However, artistic expression that may be offensive to some users does not necessarily mean the content violates our rules.
With that said, we have had a lot of feedback since our previous update concerning the usage of real hate groups, terrorists, and their symbols. Based upon this feedback, we have decided to remove these groups and their symbols from ALL content on the website whether that content promotes, denounces, or incidentally features these groups and their symbols. This includes Civil War Confederate Flag and World War II Nazi imagery. You may post content containing German soldiers, but not Nazis. You may post Civil War content, but it may not include The Confederate Flag on uniforms, etc.
Will you be removing existing content that violates the new rules?
We will be removing existing content, but will not be issuing penalties for 14 days per the Terms of Service. Users have until May 1st to bring their galleries in line. After that point penalties for content found in violation will be issued as per normal. Any new content uploaded after this journal posting will be in violation.
Can I post 3 reminders on my main account and another 3 on my alt or a friend’s account?
Using multiple accounts you own to post more than 3 reminders per 8 hours is not allowed. You can’t post reminders for content that isn’t yours.
Can I post 3 reminders for the same sale in the 8 hour window?
No, each individual sale can only be advertised once every 8 hours.

FA+ is active! We've had great support so far with quite a bit of interest and people joining. We want to thank everyone for their support.
You can sign up for FA plus here:

We're also prepping a new server to specifically handle thumbnails upload and generation. This will greatly help improve the upload process, as well as allow us to finally increase the resolution size limit on images.
January UI Update Notes
BBCode: Fixed an issue where header tags did not have noticeable differences between header 3, 4, or 5.
Browse: Submission previews are restored when clicking the info button over thumbnails. The icons have been hidden on mobile due to space/formatting issues.
Gallery: Folders are now visible on mobile view (folders are located after the gallery).
Journals: The journal list now properly shows when managing journals (allowing you to edit/delete them better on mobile).
Menu: Reorganized the notifications so they appear in the same order that they do in the message center (watches, comments, favorites, journals).
Menu: Renamed “Edit User Page Info” to “Edit Profile”. This page contains more settings than just the user page so it’s been updated to reflect that.

User Page: Fixed consistency in banner colors when browsing various tabs.
User Page: Journal Headers/Footers now appear on the user page.
