Good news, everyone! We have bad news!
We have a last minute outage planned for tonight. One of the RAM sticks in Trogdor has died (it is no more, it has ceased to be) and needs to be replaced. In addition, we will be upgrading the RAM in IO from 16GB to 32GB and taking he opportunity to perform any other necessary upgrades/fixes.
The outage is planned at 7:30 EST (00:30 GMT) and is expected to last up to two hours. We apologize for the delay, especially since it's somewhat last minute.

General | Posted 13 years agoHappy holidays, fellow furries! We hope the festive season has been kind to you and yours, and we hope many presents of your liking are to be found under the sacrificial tree!
That said, we're a little behind on releasing the beta. We apologize for that, but we are working on getting the new updates added to the beta site by this weekend/New Years, Updates like the new commission pages, new front page, improved submission management and others!
The beta, once all changes are integrated, will be available at:

The test site is currently usable, though it lacks features for the final test. Some things are currently broken (commenting) but we will have that fixed within a day or two. The test site runs on a separate copy of the DB. If you use the current test site, please keep in mind that if you delete a submission it WILL affect he live site (they share resources). So keep that in mind. Delete a submission, it will affect the submission on the live site.
We'll provide a news update with the changelog once all the new features are ported to the current beta.

General | Posted 13 years agoThe Fur Affinity community has recently been the target of users/scammers selling stolen character designs. These recently created accounts have been primarily selling "adoptables", which may be re-selling stolen artwork from other artists on FA, DA, or VCL. In addition, they have been known to sell plush animals.
When buying from these accounts, it has been a common request that Paypal users send money as a 'Gift', so it cannot be disputed. If you feel an account is conducting suspicious activity, please submit a trouble-ticket on the issue.
As a general reminder, always be cautious when purchasing/buying goods from accounts with no established history on the site. We value our community of crafters, artists, creators and our users, and have been working to remove these malicious users from the site when/where possible.

We've been listening to a lot of feedback regarding the AUP - and we do mean a lot! Our engineers, scientists and astronauts have been hard at work on revising the Acceptable Upload Policy. And not just a little, but completely rewritten. From the ground up. Just like mom used to make!

We've relaxed several outstanding rules, and further loosened restrictions on some content (allowing users to post them to their Scraps -vs- completely barring them outright). Check it out. We want to be more up front with our rules and policies, and make them easier for users to read and digest.
Give a read. It's based on your feedback and contributions. We'll be reading and responding to feedback in the comments, and making changes or clarifications where applicable.

We've made a few significant changes to the AUP to strengthen the document, provide clarity or fix loopholes.
A synopsis of what we changed:
* We fixed a loophole regarding cub art
* We re-wrote the cub policy to be more consistent with its intentions ("depictions of minors (humanoid or feral who act/behave like humans) in sexual situations"). We recognize that this will affect some artists on the site, but we will work with you. Users performing witchhunts will be kindly asked to leave their pitchforks and torches at home.
* We re-wrote the 3D/Second Life policies to be more clear and offer better choice
On that note, many people have asked us if/will we support Glitch art. The jury is still out, but we are discussing how to craft a proper rule to that. When we have a decision, we will update the AUP with it.

Unfortunately, that means monthly banners are going away. While we've greatly enjoyed rotating banners, we want to move to a more structured format and provide the site with more consistency. When the new system is completed, you will be able to select your favorite banner from a list to make FA look the way you want.
We want artists to have a chance to jump the line, and start working on banners ahead of release! We're releasing our new template so you can get started on ideas!

General | Posted 13 years agoJust a note - we've apparently attracted the attention of Chinese spammers who want to shill cheap, low quality pants and knock-off merchandise for low, low prices! EEEWWWWWW! We are working to combat this horrific problem.
If you receive spam, please hide the comments from your page, and open a ticket with the spammer's account name so we can investigate.
We will NOT tolerate spamming on the site. If you spam you will be banned. We may even set you on fire. It's all in your best interest, really. You know. For science. That tingling sensation you feel over your skin as you are engulfed in flame is like a warm blanket of re-assurance. Or shampoo. We're not really sure yet.
So don't be a spammer looking to sell knock off clothing at low, low prices. We've read the story. It just does not end well. Trust us. That last chapter? Sends a chill right down my spine.

With less than 3 months to go, FA United 5 is just around the corner! We’re gearing things up behind-the-scenes to make this con bigger, better and more fun than ever before.
Pre-registration for the convention closes August 3rd, so you’ve got a little over two months to register at our discounted rates! Don’t wait ‘til the last minute to plan. Also, be sure to grab a hotel room at the Marriott and lock in your plans while there’s still time! Room rates are $104 a night.
1) Pre-Registration Price Increase
Rates are currently an affordable $30, but not for long! As of June 1st, pre-reg rates jump to $35 ou can still ($45 at the door). Pre-register today, and save $15 on the cost admission! By registering early, you'll guarantee admission to the con, the ability to jump the lines and get into the fun faster than ever.

2) Panelists Wanted!
Furry convention seeks interested volunteers to run panels for 3 day weekend of fun! Must like long walks on the beach, starry nights and crave excitement.

3) Our Charity – the NJSPCA
We’re proud to announce the NJSPCA will be returning for a 4th year as our charity! Since 1868, the officers of the NSJCA (the second oldest SPCA in the country) have been protecting animals and investigating and prosecuting animal abusers. They are funded entirely solely through donations, grants and the money generated through fines against animal abusers.
Help the NJSPCA, and raise money for funding the NJSPCA so they can carry out their tradition of saving lives and ending animal abuse. They're a great group of people willing to put their lives on the line for our four legged, flying and slithering friends.
4) The New Hotel, the Hanover Marriott
FAU has a new hotel. With completely renovated room, gorgeous, spacious convention halls, the new hotel has over three times the space of our former hotels. That means more room to play, more room to hangout and more rooms for events!
Rooms are still available, but the deadline to reserve rooms is August 2nd! Don’t delay! Lock in your reservation for FAU 5 today!
5) Events
A preview of some events coming to FAU5:
* Sheppymomma’s Dance – a mix of sock hop disco by Sheppymomma and Fender!
* Will Dragoneer Blend – A tiered challenge to make Dragoneer suffer in the name of charity. Co-starring the Ghost Chile pepper, one of the hottest pepper in the world.
* DJs, dances and more.
* A live performance and cocktail bar with the band “Look Left”, hosted by Pepper Coyote.
* Charity Auction – We’re raising money for the NJSPCA, and will be accepting items for donation to auction off. Once again, our auction will be hosted by the ever talented Matthew “Hali” Ebel.
* An improved table-top gaming room – because you asked for it!
