Mis'Alia il Shivial, but everyone calls me Mistress.

2. Do you know why you were named that?
Which part, Mis'Alia or Mistress? Mis'Alia was my grandmother's name, and the "il Shivial" part comes from the clan I was born into. It literally means "of Shivial".

3. Single or taken?
Single, technically. I do miss him sometimes though. But I suppose one can't dwell on the past too much.

4. Have any abilities or powers?
Well, let's see.. I can perform several different forms of magic, including shapeshifting, which is something of a racial trait of ours.. I can heal, breathe wind and grow things really well, you might say I have a magic touch for plants.. How else was I to get a life tree to grow in the middle of a mountainside?

5. Stop being a Mary Sue!
Don't be silly, Mary left us years ago. Lovely girl, but a bit.. Special.

6. What's your eye color?
Orange. I'm not really supposed to tell you, but sometimes they glow, as well.. When I'm very angry.

White. And before you ask, yes, it's natural.

Well of course! Mother, father, two brothers, a daughter, a sister and three uncles.

I have an entire compound filled to the brim with hopeful young girls. Does that count?

Hum.. Well, I don't know, I'm not a great fan of cruelty, I suppose? Tricky one to answer, really, I don't really worry too much about worldly things like dislikes. 11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
Honestly, between caring for the needs of over a hundred girls, overseeing physical and mental training, magic research and keeping up with world events, I have a hard time finding time for myself, even with my precious handmaidens there to help out. I do like to write, though, and I work out a lot.

Plenty of times. A guardian is required to do what ever it takes to defend the innocent.

Oh dear, hm.. I'm sometimes overly protective, and I'm often excessively flirty.. It has landed me in trouble before, but I suppose I've learned since establishing the temple..

I look up to all my girls, they are what keeps me going in a world that might otherwise not be for me. Aside from that? There are a few very strong mages around the world, and a particular Draakin I'm not allowed to mention.. But I can say I adore him.

My dears, this is really not an important distinction to make.. But if you must know, I enjoy all companions, be they male, female or anything in between. And as we know, variety is the spice of life.

I'm the headmistress of one, actually. We teach magic, yes, but we also train our girls in physical combat, and teach all manner of important worldy theorems and skills. We also handle research, though that's mostly for our benefit, not the world..

I hate taking a break right as I'm pulling into the chapter's closing segment, but I have to deal with work stuff because nobody else has basic logic skills and so I have to engineer a frame mounting solution and head off to shitville tomorrow to actually mount the frame, and make sure they managed to mount the pictures on the wall. And just to up the ante, my washing machine broke and it's pouring with rain so I can't be assed to go get a new belt for it today. Fucken' yay.

I really don't feel like I got anything at all done in the 4 weeks I just spent on my ass doing nothing at all. I wanted to ramp up production and get like 7-8 pages done, I wanted to open commissions and take on like 5 people at a time, and I wanted to work more on that painterly piece. Instead I've had severe sleep depravation and crappy moods. Which I blame people at work for.. In fact, once everyone else is back from THEIR vacation, I'm gonna take another week off, with pay, to cover for all the 9 AM phone calls and work requests I got.

My "Things that make me reconsider this job" list is growing longer.. I do love my work though, really..

I wanna set up a site for the comic and stuff around it, and I'm considering GoDaddy at the moment, since they have a really good deal going on.. Anyone have any better suggestions?

Also, update regarding the print thing;
I'm gonna have to hold off on it for now, but I'll get back to it sometime in the future, when I have book 1 finished in full. This because I want to be able to sign each copy, so it's best for me to have them printed locally, but with that and shipping it would quickly get to around $30-40 a piece, so I wanna at least make sure they're worth the money for you guys. :)

Next page is slightly delayed 'cuz jesus it's complicated.. Shouldn't be too long, I'm still getting my head back in order after the shock of being allowed to sleep more than 6 hours at a time. Last week was a little rough.. :p

Also, thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on the previous journal :)

So we're crossing over 60 pages in total with the comic by the end of chapter 2, and I've been musing..

Interesting fact: Having a 60 page book printed is actually pretty cheap.. Like “I could resell these for $15 and still make a profit” cheap.. Can’t speak for the quality, though, since I haven’t seen samples of this one company’s stuff..

.. Would people pay $15 for the first two chapters of the comic, reworked and updated to look consistent and solid, in paperback? The updated version would have improved art, slight tweaks to the story flow, and probably some bonus content

Not saying I’m gonna go for it for sure, but it’s fun to muse.. Thoughts?

Stuff I feel I need to work on:
1: More hairstyles. People keep mistaking Ruzha for Fenfen ‘cuz they basically have the exact same hairdo, and I need to learn to draw hair better anyways.

2: Feet. Especially shoes, though.

3: Color theory. Seriously, lady, fuckin’ get with the program, geez.

4: Try lineless stuff, maybe use some different brushes for backgrounds. Relates to 5.

5: Speedpainting. Crucial skill, lady, figure it out.

I tried a new thing for speech bubbles last week, that turned out pretty good, and overall I’m pretty happy with how the comic looks at the moment, but we always have to be pushing farther and faster. The day we stop pushing is the day we stop learning. And that day should never come.

Oh, and 6: Work more on those fucking wall art pieces, god damnit.

On monetization:
Let me begin by clarifying that I stand by my statement that I will not be charging for the comic at any point, it’ll always be available to read for free on the lines. That said..

I HAVE been pondering ways to turn the comic and art in general into a job that’d be capable of supporting me at minimum. However, due to high living costs, putting together $3000+ a month purely by art and comics is.. Unlikely. A rough estimate of what it would take would be either:
600 Patreon subs putting in $5 a month each.
30 $100+ commissions a month. (Jesus christ, my brain hurts just thinking about that..)
75,000 views per comic page with 8 pages a month, assuming none of those views use ad blocker. (I currently get somewhere around 30-40K, I think, across multiple sites)

Of course, it’d be possible to mix and match some. Like 200 Patreon subs, 15,000 views per comic and 15 commissions, and add in some freelance illustration work for local companies, but even then, it’s a stretch.. Even moving to a cheap place in the middle of nowhere, it’d be hard to cover stuff..

That’s the problem with living in Norway and operating against a global economy that’s much worse off than ours.. Even with $3000 a month, I’d be way below average wage.

ANYWAYS!
Just me blogging a little, putting my thoughts down. I’ve been considering putting up a Patreon, I’m really not a fan of taking donations and stuff like that while I’m doing perfectly well on money and have a reasonable-paying job. Reasonable being relative, of course, I really should be getting paid about $20,000 more a year than I am, considering the amount of work and stress I deal with..

Also I don’t know what I’d offer as rewards anyways..

It's been an awful week and I need to work on other stuff to cool my head. There will be OTHER things posted, however.
