I don't like the word "hiatus"
Posted 13 years agoI'm avoiding the word "hiatus" like the plague. Whenever a comic goes on hiatus, the chances of it coming back are extremely low, which is why I include a specific return date of December 31 for the comic. Since "hiatus" carries so much fear and uncertainty, I'm using the word "hibernation". It's quite appropriate, really, since part of the reason is for sleep.
Sleep has been my focus since I started the comic's hibernation. So far, the results are promising. Up until Friday, I've still been getting out of bed around 2:00 pm(HORRIBLE time, but normal for me), but the actual wake-up time has been getting earlier. It takes me a while to motivate myself to get out of bed, especially since I don't have to leave for work until after 3:00. It doesn't help that I'm still occasionally staying up late out of habit, but at least I'm catching up on stuff.
On Saturday, however, I had my alarm set for 10:00 am(8 hours after going to bed)... and I got out of bed shortly before 8:00 am. I GOT OUT OF BED. IN THE MORNING. AND I GOT THINGS DONE! You'd be surprised how many things you can't do if you're not awake during the day time. I set up some Christmas decorations(daylight!), I sawed some wood for a home project(I won't wake neighbors with the noise!), I went to stores(They were open! I wasn't limited to Wal-Mart!). Since I wasn't using time that I should be using for sleep, I also crossed off a few to-do list items. My goal is to get used to starting my day at 7:00 am or earlier so that more of my waking hours will have daylight.
I know that my sleep schedule isn't the most interesting thing to most people, but that is the news around here and this cartoonist is excited about it. I'd like to show you sketches, 3D models, demo footage of something animated and/or interactive, but it's too soon to have anything to show. I have been watching more tutorials, though, and that will definitely help me do more things with 3D. I don't plan on creating any games soon, but I am learning the Blender Game Engine for 2 non-game projects, one of which looks hopeful for January. This week, I plan to focus on watching more tutorials, watching movies, and sketching. If I have time, I'll get started on building 3D characters and the website redesign.
With this schedule and a month before the comics resume, I could organize my cartooning much more efficiently by doing all of the month's scripting and layout in 2 marathons(5-6 hours each), then all the sketching in 1-2 marathons, then all the inking in 1-2 marathons. By staying in one mode for longer periods of time, I can get in the groove and have a month's worth of comics in one week.
I'm going to have a lot of days where I feel like I should be working on a comic. I'm having one of those days right now.

Finally watched Brave
Posted 13 years agoSpoiler-free part:
I bought the Blu-Ray of Brave without having watched it before, because c'mon, it's PIXAR, it's a safe bet that I'll want to own it! Was a good movie. Not quite a good as Lion King(aw damn, I compare to my favorite movie too much) or How To Train Your Dragon, but was a good story with enough laughs and surprises. It's also my second Blu-Ray movie watched. The first was Tin Tin(rented), which I haven't mentioned here. Tin Tin was good, too, but I didn't feel compelled to write a review.
No spoilers, but maybe best after watching it, since I'm looking at it from a 3D animator's critical eye and it might ruin your enjoyment of some scenes if read before forming an opinion:

.
I couldn't help noticing a few things that could have been done to improve the movie. I feel they didn't use depth of field enough(everything is so CRISP! but at least there was SOME depth of field happening), and I'm still deciding if the movement was dynamic enough(Tangled had nice expressive character movement, and Tin Tin looked motion-captured with a little extra tooniness for the INTERPOL agents). The backgrounds in Brave were very realistic(OMG the STREAM!), which made the faces that looked like clay or plastic seem really out of place. This is common with many CGI cartoons, but I feel the faces just looked too plasticy. I didn't notice any texturing on them. Granted, the women would be wearing makeup that would make their faces smoother, but they looked REALLY plasticy. I think, though, that the fact that I saw Merida's 3D model without hair in some behind-the-scenes thing a week before made her look really weird in my mind. She looked weird with no hair, then the only change I saw afterward was that it had hair and more clothes. Not even more shading and texturing. There was one shot that I thought was unfinished in the bonus features, then I watched the movie with commentary and no, that was the finished shot.
Also, her face shape, eyes and crazy red hair made her look like Chucky(You cannot unsee the resemblance, sorry). This is the worst part of the movie, for me. Scary.
I noticed that when the horse is running, it NEVER kicks up any dust. Dust would be dirt simple(pardon the unintended pun) for Pixar, especially from a distance. HOWEVER, as I mentioned this to my mom, she brought up that Scotland's dirt would be rather moist and not produce any dust anyway. Hmm, good point. I then mentioned all the dew on the grass, to which she mentioned that yeah, in the bonus features, they had cut a scene where King Fergus was hunting for more dew. Yeah- Wait, huh? Mor... *headslap* MORDU! LOL! Mom mis-heard them when they said the villainous bear's name.
Another thing I noticed is that no grass was ever disturbed, at least as far as I saw in 2 viewings. Yes, feet or bodies interacting with grass is expensive, but this is Disney. When somebody was slammed against the ground, it also just happened to have very sparse grass in just that one spot. This is just a small nit, really. Lion King did this, too, having the grass already flattened and never moving when Simba, Timon and Pumbaa were staring at the stars, even after Simba got up, but I give that movie a pass because it's 2D and the grass is a matte painting.
In general, I prefer 2D animation, I'll admit that. Everything is just so dynamic, and characters stand out MUCH better. For human characters, there seems to be a "standard cgi character" look to them and they just look like everybody else. In the case of Merida, they didn't do all that well at the standard look. The male characters looked great, though. Her dad even had a few freckles and red areas on his face. And the hair, the hair was used very well on all characters.
Whenever I start making animated cartoons, I'm sure I'll seem like a hypocrite with some of the words above, but my main defense would be this: I'm just one person, and not Pixar. Also, even though I prefer watching 2D cartoons, I prefer animating 3D cartoons. I think 3D cartoons can look as exciting and varied in style as 2D cartoons(OMG Space Stallions!), but most studios don't try for that. I'll try to incorporate what I like about 2D cartoons in my animated cartoons, though.
SPOILERS for Brave, all ye who read past this part!...

I wouldn't have been disappointed if Elinor had stayed a bear at the end of the movie, and the boys would have LOVED to have stayed bears! Oh, they were so CUTE with their big heads and innocent looks on their faces! Alas, that would have also meant that Merida and Elinor hadn't patched things up between themselves. It seems like a typical Disney ending, with everything being fine and dandy at the end, but it was necessary for the story. Still, can you imagine the sequel that would come of that? "Brave 2... And The 3 Little Bears". Merida would have to make mention that her brothers are acting like ANIMALS.
I appreciate people mentioning the bears without giving spoilers, heh. That kept the surprise un-spoiled. They did really well with all of the bears, and mama bear looked pretty realistic.

Today's My Little Pony episode with Too Many Pinkie Pies

I honestly thought the test would be what Spike's name is. Pinkie didn't cover everypony's name beforehand, and she CERTAINLY didn't say Spike's name. In fact, I was sure the tipping-off point before that would be a Pinkie getting Twilight's name wrong. "New Moon?" "Breaking Dawn?"
I want to know what happened with the orange frogs and bird. Will we see some hopping around in a later episode?
Also, silly spellcheck. It thought the word "everypony" was wrong. *gasp!* It even thinks "spellcheck" was wrong! I have lost my faith in spellcheck if it thinks IT is wrong, too.

New comic starting next year, and the future of this comic
Posted 13 years agoAt the beginning of 2013, I'm starting a new comic called "Ferret Williams", starring a ferret-sized ferret. The Halloween comic was a quickly-drawn preview, and prototype, of what the comic will be like. It'll be black and white, hand-drawn, and unlike Ferrets Versus Lemmings, will be able to muse about a much wider variety of things, including games that nobody will be talking about 120 years from now. The shorter production time will allow some updates to be ANIMATED CARTOONS! I've been wanting to do these for a while, but these comics simply take up too much of my time. And that leads me to this very website...
Ferrets Versus Lemmings is NOT going away. Completely. Also, there are 5 more comics remaining before any changes. On January 1st, the main site will be renamed, rebranded, and will redirect to FerretWilliams.com, which currently goes to my Tumblr account. All subscriptions will stay intact. The Kenny/Guy/Death/etc. comics will be limited to special storylines, most likely posted IN FULL. This will allow me to script the entire story before I even start building the 3D models, and organize my time more efficiently. I'm working on 2 stories already, but I can't put much time toward them if I'm too busy with the current comics. I also don't want to start the storylines without knowing the rest of the story first.
This storyline will end on November 19th, the Monday before Thanksgiving in the United States. Every Thanksgiving, I put the comic into what I call "half-hibernation" for the rest of the year, where I only update the comic on Mondays, instead of twice per week. However, this year I'm putting the comic on FULL hibernation for the Christmas season. I need the extra time to prepare the new comic and website! More importantly... I NEED TO REPAIR MY SLEEP SCHEDULE! You have definitely noticed my problems with updating recently. This comic is not good for my health if I do it twice per week. I simply don't sleep at night. I CAN'T sleep at night! This also complicates my plans to go to the F3 Furry Convention on December 14th or 15th(most likely 15th), since the DAY is packed with lots of great stuff.
During December and the last week of November, I will only post blog posts, sketches, and previews of 3D models. FA and Inkbunny will get even more . I'll try to keep a Monday & Thursday schedule. If I have nothing, I'll try to at least share a YouTube video. There WILL be a comic on December 31st, though. I know exactly what I want to post, and I will not wait until the last minute. It will be a Ferrets Versus Lemmings comic. Ferret Williams will update on Mondays and Thursdays. Animated features will update whenever I finish them.
tl;dr... IN SHORT, this comic will be ending on November 19th, and Ferret Williams will take its place January 1st, but there will still be occasional Kenny, possibly animated.

Comic likely cancelled today
Posted 13 years agoI don't know if the comic for October 29 will be a day late, two days late, or cancelled. My sleep schedule is thoroughly messed up(there IS no schedule), in large part due to the comic, so it seems counterintuitive to delay sleep again for something that's still "just for fun". I didn't have any ideas for today's comic anyway. Just a vague direction.
Most likely, I'll cancel this one comic and instead do a sketch, either Tuesday or Wednesday. I DO have an idea for THAT.
AND A REMINDER: If you do Second Life, the Veterinary Hospital Of Horror is still open through Halloween(plus one week). It's a pet's worst nightmare, so come visit this week! Click here to visit on Second Life.

Veterinary Hospital Of Horror NOW OPEN on Second Life
Posted 13 years agoCome see every pet's nightmare at the Veterinary Hospital Of Horror, NOW OPEN in Furnation Alpha on Second Life! The doctor will be giving examinations through Halloween, so bring a friend! Don't forget your Cone Of Shame. There are plenty of new things this year(this is the 3rd year), so if you've been there before, come see what's new!
Second Life is a virtual world that requires a modern computer and a broadband internet connection. It is free to visit. If you don't have the viewer, you can download it here. When you sign up, you have the option of animal avatars as well as human avatars. For Furnation, you'll fit in much better with an animal avatar, fyi.
If you have the Second Life viewer and an account, visit the hospital by going here.

Finally downloaded a 3D artist's mannequin for posing
Posted 13 years ago...and I've already started putting it into naughty positions, heeheheee. It's initially for an upcoming stand-alone non-canon adult-rated image(not finishing it tonight), so I have a good reason! I started to draw the smut in full 2D, then realized that I could SURELY find mannequins for download so I can actually have the posing and perspective more realistic. I hadn't thought of that before! Of COURSE people have created rigged wooden artist mannequins for use in Blender! I've been setting up un-rigged spheres in my scenes for proper sizing for over a year now. Until now, I thought I'd have to wait until I finally got my characters built in 3D before I can pose them in-scene, but this is generic enough to work for all species(with some bone resizing). I still plan on building the characters in 3D eventually, but now I don't have to wait before having something more useful than basic spheres, which are mostly useful for standing characters who aren't using their arms.
This COULD make cartooning take longer(ugh), but, it also replaces most of the sketching process, so it might speed things up, I don't know.

Was choosing a birthday gift for my niece...
Posted 13 years agoI was looking for a birthday present for my 2-year-old niece when I saw 3 possibilities; A doctor playset(her dad's a doctor, after all), a set of mini frisbees with the Disney princesses on them, or a ball with Mickey and Minnie printed on it. So I thought to myself, "Do I want her to grow up to be a doctor, a princess, or a furry?"
She really enjoyed throwing her new Mickey and Minnie ball around the park.

Zazzle or Cafepress? Or Redbubble. Or Spreadshirt...
Posted 13 years agoSo... Cafepress vs Zazzle. Trying Cafepress again after last using them maybe 2003. They... actually look pretty good now! The tools are easy, the stores look good, and the throw pillows are 1/3 the price of Zazzle's($60 wtf Zazzle). My only concern now is the quality. Surely they've come a long way since the ironed-on look of the shirt I bought in 2001. I haven't bought any products from Zazzle, mostly because of the price, but a Kenny pillowcase from Cafepress for $20? I might actually buy that. A store that the owner would actually buy from? That's a really good sign, and a goal that ALL store owners should aim for!
I'm aware that Spreadshirt has better shirts, but unfortunately that's practically all they have. They have a very wide selection of apparel, though, and the bath robe is a nice idea. I don't know about the yellow safety vest, though, LOL! Hmm, text only on that. "Ferret at work", maybe? Spreadshirt has expanded their selection since I last saw, and it's nice to see iPhone cases(all 3 stores have those now), but I'm interested in more than just clothing.
And then Redbubble. Nice store, I hear. Also limited selection, although are those stickers cut to conform to the image? That's pretty slick. Redbubble has iPhone cases just like everybody else(a good thing), but I do want me a new pillowcase and Cafepress is the only print-on-demand website with those. Also, about Redbubble... what's the deal with all the blatant trademark infringement?! I'm sure the creators drew(likely traced) those show-accurate ponies and Tardises themselves, but companies generally want to control their brand & keep a cut of the profits for ALL products with their intellectual property on them. Zazzle and Cafepress do have official merchandise, thankfully. I'm tempted to get the postage stamps with 3 hyenas prowling around from The Lion King. Scary, heheh.

Fat Bunny Week, you say?
Posted 13 years agoI was certain that last week was going to be Fat Bunny Week, which is why I included a fat bunny in the first comic of that week. But now THIS week is Fat Bunny Week? I have no plans to draw any fat bunnies this week, alas. I only had one role for a fat bunny, and that role was created with the expectation of Fat Bunny Week being at the same time as Shark Week, as it always had been. Oh well, the comic didn't rely on Fat Bunny Week, anyway.
Edits made to Thursday's comic
Posted 13 years agoI added Kenny's ear twitch, some texture to Death's dress, and an explanation of internetes to Thursday's comic. Figured it would be worth mentioning, considering the number of additions.

A thought triggered by the renovated site policy updates
Posted 13 years ago"Content - Photography may not be rated higher than Mature. Further, photography may not contain any of the following: nudity or sexuality (incl. images focusing on animal genitalia), adult toys, real gore (blood, wounds or death) or alluding to illegal activity (e.g. drugs, vandalism)."
I'm tempted to attempt a 3D render of any of the things mentioned that is so realistic that an admin would think it's a photo that breaks the Acceptable Upload Policy. The "photo" of an animal's bits would be difficult, especially if it has fur, but adult toys arranged around a bong would be fairly easy to make realistic. I don't expect it to be worth my time, especially if it leads to a temporary ban, and it could still tick off an admin and be considered harassment. I'd probably do it if I was more into mischief, heheh.

I'd probably do it if I was more into mischief, heheh.
Video: Yakko's World and Universe LIVE!
Posted 13 years agoUploaded by Rob Paulsen himself!
Second video also gives a little background on the recording of these cartoon songs.
(audio/video sync is a bit off, but it's still great to watch)
ALSO, if you'll be around Hollywood this Friday, July 27th, Rob Paulsen will be singing Animaniacs songs at the John Lovitz Comedy Club! More info at thejonlovitzcomedyclub.com! Later, you'll be able to download the audio of this performance at RobPaulsenLive.com. Rob has a great podcast there, where he chats with the BEST voice actors in Hollywood(He's still trying to con Frank Welker into doing an episode). Maurice LaMarche(The Brain) and Jess Harnell(Wakko) are some of the most notable, in my opinion, but you might have some you consider more notable, like Tara Strong(Twilight Sparkle), for instance. Great interviews.

Delaying today's comic until tomorrow with a lame excuse
Posted 13 years agoI really don't feel like cartooning tonight. I know it's lame to miss deadlines in comics, but with my low readership, I don't feel like it's worth staying up any later(it's 7:30am). I do have a slight headache, but mostly I'm just meh. I feel like I should have typed this several hours ago. The comic is scripted, though. I feel like I need to step away from it for a while because it still doesn't look right to me & it might need more research. I should look at it with fresher eyes.
Just saw Hop today

Good animation, nice character design, compositing was flawless(except for the CG crane shots when they transitioned to real camera), but only made me laugh once and I'll say what plenty of others have said... He poops candy? WHOSE IDEA WAS THAT?! I figured it might not be as bad as others have made it out to be, but the candy is truly his poop, and he grunted it out on the hood of the car. Maybe they're trying to get kids to eat less candy.
Yes, the Pink Berets were cute, but the entire movie is forgettable, and the Pink Berets didn't stand out enough to save themselves from that effect.
I'd call the animation great, because the movement was flawless and not at all cheap, but I saw some opportunities for a little more expression.
The important thing is the story, and it was, as I said, forgettable. It had humor, but not enough. Plus, E.B.(wow, his dad must REALLY want him to be the Easter Bunny, with THAT name!) was quite annoying. He's cute, though, and I see lots of Rule 34 in his future(yeah yeah, his past, but still...)
Also, E.B.'s dad was definitely TOO easily-convinced at the end. Like, "Here's this totally unheard of suggestion that is completely insane." "Oh, that's a great idea! You don't even have to explain for more than a few seconds why this paradigm-changing idea is good!" Does Fred poop candy now? What? That part was revealed at the beginning of the movie! I'm sure they tested putting that reveal at the end and decided to put it at the beginning, but I think they should have revealed it at the end. I think they're just trying to use an over-used trope. Yes, Frank is the first human Easter Bunny. It ain't gonna work. What'll people say when they see a human breaking into their back yard instead of a bunny?
And what's up with Carlos? Is there a reason why he has a hispanic accent? Generally, it's not a good idea to make a minority be the villain unless there are others of that minority on the other side. No, he's the only hispanic and he's BLATANTLY hispanic(more on that later). The actor isn't even hispanic! I'd be okay with it if they were simply using a big-name hispanic actor, but Hank Azaria is Greek! Rob Paulsen once said that he wouldn't want to do the voice of a black character because there are plenty of great black actors out there who should get that part before him. I think that casting an actual hispanic would have at least justified the character a little. There really is no reason for the villain to be the only character from Mexico or Guatemala or wherever he's from. (edit: Okay, Easter Island IS off the coast of Peru, but if that's the reason, why is he the only one with a supposedly Peruvian accent?)
But even moreso, I hate it when characters throw in "Si" or "Señor" as the only Spanish that they seem to know. Are you sure you speak Spanish? Real hispanics don't speak like that, they speak in English until they reach a word they don't know, and that word is NEVER "yes". I wouldn't go to Mexico and speak perfect Spanish EXCEPT FOR "Sir" and "Yes", especially in the middle of a sentence. I get that they want to make him sound hispanic, but the accent is enough. Unrealistic sentences like that are one of my pet peeves with movies. "I can speak perfect English, except I will never know the translations of the simplest words!" has got to be on TV Tropes somewhere.
I watched this movie because CG films get me in the mood to build stuff in 3D and I've heard SOME good things about this movie, although the reviews are definitely mixed. I also try to keep up with pop culture, and fail miserably at it.

Kennyland is BACK!
Posted 13 years agoThe Kennyland theme park on Second Life is back and renovated! Now located in Furnation Alpha between the mall and the sandbox. (Second Life is an online 3D world, like a video game but not)
The old Kennyland was themed to the Kenny Chronicles comic & it was beyond time to re-theme it for Ferrets Vs Lemmings. Since I didn't want to make a grand re-appearance with the exact same out-of-date layout as before, I decided to go ahead with the remodel, even if I don't have all of the new attractions ready yet.
The swimming pool is now a beach that's styled like the beach on Ook Island. It's more space-efficient, prim-efficient(resource-efficient), and BIGGER than the old pool with more floating stuff. I've removed the Comic Coaster because it was the most out-of-date attraction there, featuring a story arc from October 2009, before I started using 3D backgrounds at the end of November 2009. It stopped being a good representation of the comic at that point. I have a roller coaster in mind to replace it with, but there's a lot of programming to do on the ride, and it requires a large area of Ook Island to be fully built(scenery for a portion of the ride), so I'm simply aiming for "by the end of the year" for that.
The dodgeballs will be back when I've re-themed that area to not be about Funky Skunk. I don't know where I'll put it yet, anyway. Could be right above, could be underground, could be in a skybox you have to teleport to. Each has its own challenges and advantages.
I have some other things in mind, but I'll mention them as I finish them. Right now, the park is finally ready to be visited. If you have Second Life(free to join, chat, roam around), you can visit the new Kennyland by clicking here.

Changed title on Monday's comic
Posted 13 years agoMonday's comic WAS titled "Like A Breeze", to refer to the windy time ahead and that raccoon running quickly, but a friend pointed out something that inspired a much better title: "Looting Has Already Begun".
@TheFakeDeath is kinda naughty, heh

A movie everybody should watch... as torture
Posted 13 years agoBe creeped out by the cheap 3D in the box art, stay for the horrible acting, animation, and played-out plot... http://www.redbox.com/movies/lifes-a-jungle
80 minutes of what looks to be modded Sims machinima. Just the shoulders on the dog screams "First try at character modeling"(at least it's honest, unlike some cheap knockoffs). No, no I did not watch this, nor do I ever intend to.
COMING SOON to Redbox!

Everyone Fapp...
Posted 13 years ago...was a username I just saw on Second Life. I just had to compliment him on his(or her?) username. Profile said he signed up in 2006, he said that he hasn't seen anybody else with that last name, so it was probably pulled quickly. He also grabbed "You Fapp" while he could, heh.
For those unfamiliar, Second Life used to let you choose your avatar's first name & choose from a list of last names. This was so people could choose the name they actually wanted instead of settling for something like "Kenny754". My SL username is Kenny Panache. When I saw that last name, it was clearly the kind of name Kenny would choose for himself. Now they let you choose a single username without a last name(technically, the last name of new users is "Resident") because it was really such a silly system & people didn't always like the last names. You can also change your visible name to be different from your username now.

Huzzah, for my ads are definitely running now
Posted 13 years ago*FvL ad spotted!*
I guess this means I have to start updating on time now, eh? At least for the next 6 months, the duration of this ad.

Trying to decide if I should keep this idea a secret
Posted 13 years agoI just thought of an awesome idea that I'm sure is a first in webcomics. Trouble is, should I jump at the opportunity to be the first to do it and keep it a secret, or write an article and POSSIBLY still get credit for the idea? It's something I'd love to see other cartoonists do, if they have talent in this particular area(many of us ARE multi-talented). In fact, now is a great time to start work on this. One issue with this is that people would then expect me to follow through with the idea and I have enough trouble focusing on my comic. I wouldn't want to put forth this great idea and not do it at all.
I'm no stranger to webcomic firsts, either, and I haven't gotten recognition for either of them(I still only have maybe 300 readers and am not making money from the comic), so actually being the first might not be that great.
The first first is drawing a 13-hour Friday the 13th comic(March 13, 2009). I've seen other 13-hour comics, but not on Friday the 13th.
The second first is having the first theme park based on a webcomic(announced April 1st, 2010). Sure, it's on Second Life, and it's temporarily offline due to the region being sold a couple weeks ago, but being an online-only comic, it's only appropriate that the theme park is online-only. I'm currently holding off rebuilding because it's way overdue for a redesign anyway, plus I need to find the perfect new location.
It's possible that I'd get more recognition for writing an article about my idea, but it's also such a simple idea that I could get no credit. It's one of those "Why didn't I think of that?!" ideas. It's also possible that somebody else HAS done this, and writing the article would bring that fact forward. I could get some fan input, too, but if fans do too much of the work, I wouldn't be able to make money off of it.
Ideas are a dime a dozen, so the idea itself isn't worth much. It's the actual work that matters. I could possibly be the first to do this work. Whether I'm the first or not, I still want to do this.
It's really a tough decision.

FvL advertisement will go live by this weekend
Posted 13 years agoI've sent the money to FA. For the next 6 months(starting Thursday or Friday, most likely), you'll be seeing Guy and Death in the advertising areas of FA, as well as a lot of new commenters on the comics. With this sudden & continuing burst of traffic, hopefully I'll have more motivation to get comics done on time, because an irregular sleep schedule hasn't been enough motivation.
I had a few potential advertising thwarters, namely the branch that fell on my car, but I found out that the repairs($2500, or $500 insurance deductible + raise in insurance rates) cost more than the raise in value($1500), so 1 inch of touch-up paint on a dent will be perfectly fine. The washer also died & I got a chip on my windshield last month, but the washer just needed a $35 lid switch replacement, which I could do myself after a lot of almost-giving-up. Various repairs in the past few months totaled more than the advertising cost, but I'm happy that it was all within my means.
So yeah, none of those were slowdowns. The sole slowdown was creating the OFFICIAL FERRETS VS LEMMINGS STORE which you should all check out. I didn't want to advertise until I had a store ready to make it financially worth considering. Now, the comic is fully ready for advertising. It feels great. Also, I've been wanting to support FA for a long time. I was going to advertise back in 2009, actually, but that's when I suddenly had to buy a new car.
You can see the ad now as my profile ID.
