Help me make a list of rare animals
Posted 15 years agoRecently it seems I've been seeing and hearing about species of animals I never knew existed. I'm looking for really obscure animals and not insects.
My ultimate goal would be a list of animals for a portfolio, animals that most very likely that have never been drawn anthropomorphic before. Have any ideas for me?
I'll start with a couple I found recently and didn't know about before:
1. The Grimpoteuthis. Also known as "Dumbo octopuses" from the ear-like fins protruding from the top of their head-like bodies, resembling the ears of Walt Disney's flying elephant. Here is a photo of one: http://bioephemera.com/wp-content/u.....7/05/deep5.jpg
2. Himalayan Tahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus) (or Himalayan Thar) is a large ungulate related to the wild goat.
Here is a pic:

Posted 15 years agoFeel free to nab this questionnaire yourself.
When did you start drawing?
When I could hold a crayon.
Which hand do you use for drawing?
My right hand, unless I'm coloring digitally. I swap between both hands then.
Which is easier to draw - male or female?
Female, because I am one, I know where everything goes.
Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
I don't know....afros are a bitch.
Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
I find both are about the same.
Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
I don't find side or front view difficult but drawing a side view is usually less work.
What do you have problems in drawing?
My wrist can hurt sometimes so I have to be careful how often and how much I draw. Also difficult perspectives give me trouble occasionally.
What do you like to draw?
Naked furries.
Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
I like to draw traditionally and colour digitally on the same piece.
Where do you start drawing from?
The eyes are always first..they are the portals to the soul..
What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
I am completely blissfully unaware.
Any tips for coloring/shading?
Don't use a mouse for your artwork, eventually your wrist will pay for it down the road. A good tip for shading and highlights is to draw a lightsource on your paper {you can erase it later} and shade and highlight everything using that light source as a marker.
How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
Depends on how much I'm inspired by it, but if it's for a commission obviously the faster the better.
What music do you listen to while you draw?
Usually draw with a movie running or with the T.V on...usually miss most of whatever it was I was watching.
....Don't ask me about movies.
How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
A long time, unless I get an idea and those usually come from other people. I love commission work because you get to hear others amazing ideas, something important to them.
Your favorite drawing utensils?
Mechanical pencil, black ink, my pc tablet and can't forget adobe's photoshop and illustrator.
Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
My favourite colour is purple, but I don't use any particular colour a lot in my artwork.
Your favorite style(s)?
I adore cartoon and comic styles, some examples would be Warner, Don Bluth, anime cuteness.
Are you satisfied with your current art?
No, I wish I could spend all day practicing if it were possible.
What kind of artist are you aiming for?
I'm glad just to be an artist right now, that I'm currently still able to occasionally draw at all.

One week today since she died.
Posted 15 years agoIt's been one week since she died and I'm ready to talk about it now and tell what happened. Hopefully in the telling, it will be good for me.
About five years ago my family took in a scraggly stray in bad shape. We found out she was pregnant as well, but she'd been in such poor shape that she only had a single kitten. The kitten born here we named Naya.
She was truly a miracle to have made it. Over the course of the next year we had to get her moms teeth all removed because they were all bad. We wondered if maybe someone dumped her because her teeth were so awful. She was the sweetest cat.
We gave her one good year, then I guess her life had just been too hard we wish we knew what her story was. She became ill again and this time it was kidney failure there was nothing we could do and we lost her. Naya grew up here, as she was born here and was truly our housecat. A real people person we all loved her and she loved us.
Last thursday I remember my mom and I playing with Naya before going upstairs for 20 minutes, when I came back down Naya was sleeping on the couch. She looked so cute with her mouth open a little like that, she was always doing cute stuff like that. I asked my mom to pass down the family camera we take photos with and I took a picture of Naya sleeping cutely. But you know, something was already bothering me. I looked at the photo and something wasn't right, I was becoming scared. Took me a minute to gather myself enough to look at Naya. She wasn't moving, too still. 20 minutes ago she was fine. I came in close, one of her eyes was wide open the other was closed and she wasn't breathing. I felt....shock.
Naya was dead. Four and a half years old, healthy and full of love and life. Instantly, looked like a stroke, a lightning bolt. She was still so warm...
The worst part was going upstairs and having to tell her that her baby was dead. They had a very close and strong bond out of all of us. I won't go into detail about my mother cradling Naya in her arms, suffice to say we were both in shock and absolutely devastated.
It was heartbreaking, I couldn't understand how everything was fine up until she died instantly in her sleep. The horror of taking a photo of her thinking she was alive sunk in. It haunted me for awhile.
It's been a week now and everyone is slowly healing, but it's hard. Naya was a special girl who was almost never born so it's really sad that she died like that so young so fast.
We all miss her.
I'll never forget you Naya.

Thinking of possibly taking on commissions again.
Posted 15 years agoI could really use some money these days, who wouldn't? I have been considering doing commissions again. Maybe. I wouldn't be able to do very many and I'd be slow.
Possibly little to no demand for such work anyway with the economy so poor.
I've been trying to think up ideas for commissions that would be easy on my wrist. Maybe portraits or head shots. I'm open to suggestions!

Old artwork flood down to a trickle.
Posted 16 years ago The pile of old artwork that still needs to be posted on FA is dwindling fast. Everything I've posted so far over the past few weeks is from 98-2003 and after that I pretty much dropped completely off the radar.
I'm sorry to say once I'm done posting all of it {which will be any day now} all that will be left is whatever I decide to do now, in 2010.
Considering the poor shape of my wrist it certainly won't be much.
Perhaps I should just wait another decade to post everything, I'm sure by then I'd have a nice pile. :)

FurNation?
Posted 16 years agoOk, I used to have a site on Furnation, I made it back in 2000. I had some artwork there I don't think can be found anywhere else. Now I'm back after all these years and I know nothing. I take it my old site and work is gone forever now?
I also had work on Furtopia.org, in fact my name is still there among those with art posted but following the link goes nowhere. Seems I put too much trust that by uploading work online it would be my backup in case something happened to it. Well, I did lose some work over the years, now it looks gone for good.
That is a shame. :(

Artwork flow
Posted 16 years agoI've now finished uploading all of the work I did in 2001, which seems to be the majority of it. I've come across a couple 2000 pieces and now it's just a matter of the last bit of 2002-2003 work.
I wish I could tell you I have as much work done each year but that's not the case.
It seems pretty clear to me looking back that I must have been drawing like a madwoman in /01 and my wrist grew steadily worse from there so the work starts to trickle to a standstill and especially towards 03 I see a lot of uncolored work, mostly sketches and ink. I can tell my wrist was bothering me then.
As of 2003 until present...
I'm afraid my life was in turmoil, I stopped drawing altogether hoping my wrist would recover. It never has, so I have to be very careful now. I still want to draw, very very badly!
I have heard both sides of the story that getting your wrist "fixed" might just screw it up for life. Then again I've heard ignoring the problem can lead to the same thing. First step I guess is getting up the nerve to talk to my Dr. about it.
As my friend Rust said, it's not like he's going to whip out a scalpel the moment I bring it up.
I dug up all my old work burned on to disc, one of them doesn't appear to work anymore so I wonder what art WAS on it. I found some work I was certain had gotten colored at some point but couldn't find it. It's possible it was lost in all the craziness of the past. One disc just plain won't work. It's a shame but at least the majority of my work is now archived on FA, it will be the biggest repository of everything I've ever done. I'd like to start doing more art but we will see how it goes.

Kinda weird.
Posted 16 years agoI wonder if I'm the first person to show up and proceed to drop a decades worth of artwork. I've been spending a lot of time posting each day and I'm amazed at how much stuff I've either misplaced or lost. I've spent the last few days posting art from 2001 and now I'm starting to find 2002-2003 stuff. I'll have to go through my burned discs and see whats there.
I decided to write the other DarkSilver on here a note and let them know that I was posting my old work under my old name. I hope this isn't a problem.
I'm also confused as to wether I keep referring to art pics of my fursona as DarkSilver or not. I mean, this is awkward. I don't want to ever go through a name change again.

Looking back.
Posted 16 years agoI was looking at my old Furtroplolis board today, reading through old posts from way back in 2002-2003 and wow, I could not take criticism. Looking back and reading them they come across as bitchy and argumentative. As in any critique of my work and I would spend my time trying to explain it away instead of really listening. How did anyone stand me there? I must have come across as a foot-stamping tantruming "artiste". :/
Name Change
Posted 16 years ago I don't know if it's common to change ones monicker, alter ego, nickname..whatever you call it..but I've decided to do it.
Kind of like Prince or Puff Diddy! Daddy?
Anyway the artist formerly known as DarkSilver re-emerges as Fezdani. Much confusion will ensue. I hope it doesn't end up being too much of a big deal.

Future plans
Posted 16 years ago I'm planning to submit all of my old work from years ago to begin with. I used to be quite prolific and so to start with will be the early artwork until I can dig up some later work that are currently burned on disc somewhere or other. I know I won't be able to post everything so I'll try to pick what I feel has some merit, something in the artwork that I liked.
Although I'm my own worst critic and I see a lot more flaws in my old work than I used to! I can still post older work that I think has a little something to elevate it above the rest of the stuff. Because I must tell you, some of the older stuff is bad. Really, really bad.
Then again, maybe I'm just being my own worst critic again.
