I'm asking for feedback about commission pricing. I genuinely don't know how much my works are worth, I've seen fellow artists who are anything from 'more-' to 'bit less-' skilled then myself, but they can ask for their works anything from respectively 'less-' or 'more-' than me. So... I have no idea.

I've been pondering over "becoming fuller-time artist". Because now i'm working at most part time here, and money i get from commissions goes to hobbies/games/PC/artbooks/doodads etc. But i'm considering making this more of a "job" - you know: money goes towards food/petrol/shelter and such. But i'm very apprehensive and reluctant about this idea.

So i'd want to know if i'm underselling myself? and if so: by how much? I consider doing something underhanded like: "YCH auction to probe how high it'll go" but swiftly i thought to myself: "fuck no! I hate when games do loot boxes and companies manipulate customers to get them to spend as much as possible - i won't be doing small scale equivalent of that!", so i decided to just ask about it upfront.

I won't bullshit you that: "yeah if i get 1k answers where all people claim that my works are worth gazillion usd/character i won't raise my price to accommodate that" - because if that were to happen: ofc. i would. I would 'ditch my job' and 'become full time artist', 'live high life, las vegas and hookers and all that bs' .
What i'm trying to say is that: "you can lowball your answer to get possibly better price later on" or "you can highroll your answer to look more generous and increase odds of me drawing more stuff" BUT i'd just ask you to be honest instead? yeah i know - novel concept on the internet.

it's actually somewhat bad timing for doing this - i'm having some hurdles in general (more than usually more like), but that is beside the point... - in short: early on: up to April (probably), it'll take me longer to draw (probably) and i'll be taking payment after image is done, until i get my sh*t together.
also: Stable Diffusion / MidJourney / DALL-E, might completely up end digital art industry, but someone needs to make images that go into their learning datasets, without attribution or request for permission *cough, cough - i'm not bitter at all*
also: inflation is raging on - but i guess some claim that "entertainment industry is recession proof".

i've decided on atrocious price hike of nearly ~2x (which puts me in line with "market pricing" - so i'm no longer "great deal" artist, inflation caught up to me)

beyond pricing tos changes most notable change i decided on is that i'll enforce "one image per spot in queue" policy this time. - it helps me to estimate time frames better - and i'm really bad at drawing series of images (same OC's over-and-over again), i have artistic ADHD if you will, and i get bored and burned out easily on bigger projects - sorry about that.

also: while up until now i did this "First In First Out queue" thing - i'll probably end up working on up to 2 images at once this time - staggered in such way where i'm "starting 2nd, while 1st is half-way-done" and "when 1st is done, 2nd is half-way-done, i start 3rd", and so on and so on. no idea if it'll improve my productivity - i'd just like to try this workflow - if it'll turn out to be hindrance: i'll go back to "one image at the time" approach.

i'll still be aming for somewhat aggressive 3:1 'commission':'requests/personal projects' ratio - i'd like to make some PC upgrades, Intel 4th gen. (Haswell) is basically 10 y/o now, i might end up skipping entire DDR4 generation, so it's not like i'm on 'cutting edge of upgrade cycle' anway, i think it's reasonable to think about upgrade now.

well: recession is coming, inflation is on record levels - perfect time to reopen commissions for let's face it: kind shit images... (so: digital good with no tangible value)
to my defence, i charge relatively: little and reasonably, absolutely: a touch more then minimal wage in Poland. I know - since i've started to record time lapses on occasion do i know exactly how long it took to draw some of the images.

what is freakin' point? i want SteamDeck.
and my budget is kinda scarce nowadays - so i could use leg up with funding it. i've reserved cheapest 400 usd one - at the moment (09.03.2022) Valve says: "ETA after Q3 2022" - i read that as: "maybe somewhen in H1 2023"

that kind of assumes that Ukrainian war won't escalate to WW3, and covid won't evolve to Resident Evils "T-Virus", and we won't die due to climate change, AND TSMC will have enough wafer capacity to make some chips for Valve instead BitCoin ASICs. Assuming all of that - i might will be able to buy one somewhen in the future.

ok so i'm back - after bit less than a quarter.
I decided that i won't be doing commissions form now on - they take up too much time, and i feel obliged to perform (ofc) - and i want to do this as and hobby / getaway - not next job.
So if i'm doing something for free i can say "!@#$ it - that will do" and noone can complain, not so much with commission - as in that case one should expect me to do it as well as i can. And the fact that i'm asking for pennies doesn't help - and no i can't just raise prices as i don't feel like my artwork is worth that much.

so from now on - "personal projects", "requests" and "raffles" - probably less of them - i gues "even less then usually".

it was brought to my attention that people at Google might have problem with NSFW stuff stored on their 'google drive' being shared with others.
thus i'll be moving my stuff from Google Drive to MEGA as an alternative, and for a while links on my posts will be unusable (i'll try to re-link most of them at some point).
it apparently was in their ToS for a long time - but damn... - who read though entire ToS of Google or MS Windows or Amazon? - stuff is 'un-read-though-able', by design mind you: it's so, so they sneak funny stuff, eg.: if due to Windows error, your PC will catch fire and burn down your house down - do you know what MS will owe you? - new OEM licence of Windows! - that is in ToS of OS you're using (on >90% you're using) .

i'll also take an opportunity to give my opinion on this:
it's annoying... folks at Google, FB, Twitter, etc.: they will spy on you in every way possible, breaking law in process sometimes- yet on every possible turn when someone could possibly complain about their service, or part of it - they'll ditch it all together, instead trying to stand by it, or employing any kind of action, which might solve problem - nah - it's easier (and cheaper) to throw it away all together.
what i'm rambling on are recurring 'weird moves' made by big companies like Google or Disney etc. where they will do weird shit: like in cartoon 'Gravity Falls' cutting out fish from fez of one of main characters, or sh*tshow that was pulled by Tumblr, or recent moves by Patreon to disallow NSFW creators founding, or rampant de-monitazation on YouTube, or Riot Games removing cigar from characters splash-art - they are all 'caused by desperate want of avoiding any lawsuit, or even potential lawsuit. And with combination of how much money those companies have - i find this fear disgusting.

And you can solve that shit Google - eg. just give 'NSFW' toggle - if you're afraid of eg.: pedophiles sharing stuff via their google drives - just deploy freakin' neural net trained to search for pedo shit and send it to review or if it's 98% match: send it to police straight away, god damn it.
and don't BS me that Google can't afford that: Google is 300 billion usd company - owned by 900 billion usd company 'Alphabet'* - 3rd in the world, after Apple and Amazon - fuckers have more sway than many countries - they can afford it - line that 'they barely scrape by to survive off ad-revenue' is BS.

the reason is: i'd like to try to buy new tablet my current one - wacom bamboo M (CTH-670) is kinda old and it works well enough but i have some issues with drivers on Windows (it's legacy product so Wacom doesn't update it anymore).

my suggestion would be:
go for Wacom - i had XP-Pen - hardware was good but software was so problematic i went back to using my previous - wacom-one, sadly there is a reason why Japanese at Wacom have near monopoly on graphic tablets (these are just mine experiences - but they're enough to cool my enthusiasm for "top 5 Wacom alternatives")
about size - i have medium one - i borrowed "Intuos Pro 5 L" (by old bamboo/intuos nomenclature) for a while from friend and i actually didn't like it - it was too big - i like to work on 50x70cm paper (20x27inch or so) but in digital drawing small tablets are fine for me, so it's matter of preference (just: bigger isn't always better - not for all at least)

i was looking for book/anime/movie/series - in one word - “entertainment” - to fill my empty sad live - and i noticed tag "litRPG" on book review site, and i was like: "ok what is that?". It is “literally RPG” so these are books where characters act as if they were in RPG so they will acknowledge RPG stuff like "Levels"/"Skills"/"Status effects".

And my reaction is "WHY?" - it's like PC card games (eg. "HearthStone") showing card getting dealt etc. and i'm also "WHY?" - in “magic the gathering” cards were there to visualize epic battle between elves and dwarves or whatever - cards were just tools to show this stuff.
And in D&D i'd assume when you have "Paladin level 1000" it'd mean that he's guy who is most skilled warrior in ever - who will by himself stop entire armies he's legend spread around the land with mixture of fear and admiration, every peasant knows about him, but nobody says "oh boy! he haz lvl 1000 for realz m8"
and all that dice/number stuff is there as a kind of "technical help" - if this "Paladin" would roll i dunno 10 dice and all land on 1, and "rookie soldier" will roll 10 dice all on 6 and it'll be enough to win - it means it was unbelievable luck, he tripped on something and fallen onto his sword or whatever - no one would say "oh no!!! - if only you'd roll at least one 2 m8 - you'd win - what a bummer" - cause those dices and numbers are not part of their world - as i said it's just kind of “technical help”.

and i decided to shed some light on Polish-German-Israeli drama of late (you might missed it but locally it's pretty big drama among some groups) + some other stuff from Poland politics

due to use of "Polish Concentration Camps" phrase in eg. France - even Obama said so (and then apologised) - Poles get pissed off 'cause it can suggest that Poles took part in Holocaust as a doer. [Polish = "run by poles" vs "located in Poland"]
thus in its infinite incompetence our government tried to force international law which would ban connecting Poles and Poland with Holocaust,
BUT it'd also ban proving that some Pole-fuckers sold out Jew to Germans - and of course this could and most likely did happen - it just did happen.
so Israel understably got pissed because it seems like we (Poland) tried to whitewash ourselves from some criminal stuff (from WW2 but nevertheless).
and you might hear Poles screaming around about injustice and how we are being framed up - why claim such thing when clearly our lovely goverment fucked up?
because public TV miss reported whole drama omitting that we (Poland) tried to force law which would make impossible to document that gives Pole committed war crimes

Poland is always first to remind everyone that Nazis were Germans, and that we shouldn't forget that. And i think that is correct - we shouldn't forget that - we shouldn't burry it in the past. But most of my fellow countrymen are idiots and don't get reason why we shoudn't forget that - they just want reasons to hate more rich present Germans. (trust me i'm going with it somewhere)

other fun facts about Poland:

one of our ministers was accused of forgery of evidence and approving illegal actions of CBA
[let's say it's our FBI - it's noting like that (btw) - but it'll simplify topic - it's kind of Police - CBA stands for Central Bureau of Anti-corruption]
Judge didn't announce verdict because before that his pal from his party who happen to be president decided to use "the law of grace" - if you don't know this law allows to say: ok - you were convicted but you won't have to "do" punishment
if you didn't catch that - it doesn't make you innocent - it allows you not to pay fine or go to jail - it's as if you did pay or spend some time in jail even if you didn't
and this creates some funny shit: one - president couldn't use grace 'cause our minister wasn't convicted at the time - he might have been proven innocent (however unlikely that was); two - minsters can't have criminal records - so what now? - he wasn't convicted (yet) but he did get "grace" but it didn't make him innocent just "as if he was punished" - so some think it isn't legal for him to be minster at all.

our politicians form ruling party tried to ban press from watching hearing of our parliament - which is not legal cause everyone have right to watch these hearings - ofc due to physics - room will fit so many people - you'll have to ask for entry card of sorts - press did get them 'cause they are press and it's their job to report about this stuff
this led to outrage form opposition and they started to occupy pulpit in main parliament room - in response to that ruling party packed their bags moved into "backup room" (which would be arguably ok if not for what happened next) - they resumed proceedings and they didn't allow anyone else into the room - nor press nor opposition politicans - latter seems to me super-illigal and former just illigal - then they voted and approved plety of shit and they claim that they did have enough people to carry out voting (you need at least 1/2 of parliament members to do the voting) - and noone know if they had 1/2 of parliament because noone was allowed to enter.

this all are stories from country that could be turning into dictatorship provided that our fuckers have balls to do it "officially" - but effectively it's pretty much dictatorship at this point - controlled by little fucker who isn't even anybody officially - he's just chairman of the ruling party - he isn't prime minister - he isn't president - he's just regular guy who happens to decide on everything in my God forsaken country.

ok so... i feel like i have to proclaim everywhere i can that Poland can be walking toward really big shit without looking on it's step. As reminder year ago i posted one of my few journals 'cause i don't feel like spaming with them constantly - using them like status up date since i don't think anyone should/would care, and year ago i posted about Polish elections which were won by unpredictable, one would say insane political party. So once again i write about serious stuff on this filthy-porn-account but i can't help myself.

so... among destroying somewhat economy eg. program 500+ where everybody with more then 2 childrens gets 500zł/month (120 usd/month) per 2nd, 3rd, 4th kid - which is not bad in theory but everybody gets such support even if they have extremly big sallary because amount of kids is only condition to get such support, they lower pension age (which was recently risen to same as in EU) promise another program "house+" where they promise to sell goverment build flats for impossible prices (trust me on this i'm architecture student and one of thing that we are thought is how to make estimate of building construction - prise they promice is beyond impossible - it's more then 2x cheaper then it can go)

by doing this they are buying support of people who don't understand that we just can't afford for such programs - maybe Germany or Norway etc. - rich western countries could afford to do something like this but not Poland.

and not to mention this smells like communism, but i'll share you with funny observation btw: there are shit loads of communist in the world who not only don't know that they are communists but also they tell they hate comunism. All because they don't get that democracy is "being equal FOR THE LAW" so if you brake law you go to prison no matter if you are poor or rich and you can't pay to get smaller sentence, while just "BEING EQUAL" - is communism.

minister of national defence says he want to recruit 50 thousand soldiers whose purpose is somewhat unclear, they would work as eg. U.S. national guard but never the less;
one of envoy suggested that not catholic imigrants should be forced to sign some paper saing that he will respect catholics value or be deported - what cames down to register all imigrants faith which is freakin' illegal but i guess govement and ruling party just doesn't care - i was raised in catholic family and i do respect catholic church but church is church and country is country, and there are Eastern Orthodox, Protestants even few native Muslims (Tatars) in Poland. Poland is civil state, there is freedom of religion and they can belive in whatever they want and they don't have to confess about their belives or be listed anywhere.

and president of ruling party who technically isn't anyone special yet everyone knows he's in charge, claims rather odd things that economy is slowed down by companies affiliated with opposition parties.
and lately president of Łódź (one of big cities of Poland) - member of opposition party was accused of fraud tho apparently she did not do - basically it is about creditworthiness - she sold to her partner house, and bought from him plot and this transactions for some reason risen their creditworthiness for banks they took loan to treat their sick child, but they paid off credit anyway so... people are like: WTF? where is problem then? - but police acuse her anyway and "she criticized goverment? - nah i doesn't matter at all, ofc not..."
there is still hard working "KOD" Komitet Obrony Demokracji = Committee of Democracy Defence which protests basically nearly since whole year
there was venetian commission in Poland

some of this stuff looks awfully like preparations to martial law in some people eyes - i don't think i'd go so far since military don't respect its superior and i don't believe they would suppress nation on theirs command... but still...
