Art Incoming
Posted 3 years agoI'm very bad at posting art on here. Expect some art incoming. I've been working on expanding my artistic capabilities, mostly through watercolor, and I am very much not dead.

I was also wondering if anyone had any photos of my starfox uniform from AC. I was wearing it a lot but so far I've only seen two shots of it go by.

Giving up on the dream.
Posted 11 years agoI've been wanting to do fursuit commissions professionally since I made my second suit back in 2006. Unfortunately, I've come to realize that despite my experience building suits, I'm not ready to do it full time. I'm not even ready to do it part time. I thought with my real job being part time, I'd have lots of time to work on suits, but that's not what happened. Irregular schedules make it so easy to lose track of time. Has it really been a month since I even stepped into the studio? It's impossible to get a groove going when I might get a day off, the next day I work 7am-1pm, then 4-9:30 the next day. Its very hard to start and stop in the middle of projects. Where was I? Did the eyes go here or here? Was the next thing I needed to do wire the fan, or put in the jaw? Recently it turns out that the drop cloth I use to protect the floors has been trapping water, and creating lots of mold. So basically, the studio I'm working in I can either ruin the floor and keep mold free, or protect the carpets and get mold. Either way, it is not a good environment for making other people's suits.
My goal as of now is to finish the two commissions I'm halfway through. After that, I'm just going to focus on my own projects and maybe those for locals who I can see on a regular basis. Maybe after a while I'll have gotten good enough to open up for more commissions. As of now though, I'm closed for commissions indefinitely.

Further Confusion
Posted 11 years agoSo in one day I am doing something I've never done before: I'll be going to Further Confusion. It'll be my first time going to California and I'm really looking forwards to it.
Who should I expect to see there?

FurFright and Anthrocon Photos
Posted 12 years agoI've finally got a flicker, and since I didn't want to spam everyone with fursuit photos, I put all my con photos up there.
Here's FurFright: http://www.flickr.com/photos/finnis.....7637062388836/
and here's Anthrocon a few months late: http://www.flickr.com/photos/finnis.....7634639597801/

Opening for Fursuit Commissions
Posted 12 years agoSome of you may have noticed a "Second Nature" watermark popping up in the corner of my latest submissions. That's because I now have a fursuit studio! Now go watch me a second time!
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/secondnature/
As my current living situation seems to be stabilizing, I feel comfortable opening for 2 fursuit slots right now. You can email me (finnishfox@gmail.com), and I will let you know if you got the spot. Fullsuits will start at $1,500, but the complexity of your character can cause that to change. A down payment of 30% will be required for construction to begin. Because my life is still a little more wibbly-wobbly than I'd like, I cannot guarantee a specific completion time, though I'd expect them to be done by AnthroCon at the latest, and this time I don't have any appendices that can explode and delay everything by a year.

I'm gunna do a Your Character Here thing!
Posted 12 years agoI had a lutrai/otter drawing I was working on, but colored pencils are a bitch, so I decided to scrap it and start over from the line art. This is my first YCH so I dont really know what I'm doing. Bidding will be in this journal, with no bids smaller than $5, and please reply to whomever you are outbidding so they know they've been beat. Paypal is the preferred method of payment.
Bidding will close Monday.
Here's the line art: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11298116/

Studio Name
Posted 12 years agoIf I were to start a fursuit/art studio, I'm thinking "Second Nature" as a name. Thoughts?
AC was a blast
Posted 12 years agoDespite not spending as much time suiting as I'd like, I had a good AC. I got to hobnob with some famous artists and steal their secrets on which fur trimmers to use, things like that. I debuted Bruce and Finnish v5. While Bruce was a huge success, I think I'll be doing some work on Finnish v5 before I take him to another con. I got a ton of pics from my new camera but I'm not sure where to put them all, I dont want to flood my FA with photographs.
All finnished for AC
Posted 12 years agoGot my last project done before the con, and I head out tonight shortly after dinner. No pics; still have to pack and all that. See you all there
Retiring Finnish
Posted 12 years agoWhile I will be at Anthrocon, I'm sorry to say that Finnish v3.999 (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5867166/) will not be coming with me.
He was constructed in the summer of 2007, and despite his retrofit in early 2010, his six (holy crap) years of age are catching up to him. Not only is his design hopelessly out of date, but the jaw is breaking down, and the eyes are almost dissolving. It was a good run, but at this point, even putting the head on is challenging and wearing it is uncomfortable.
Six years is respectable for a fursuit. He was the third suit I made and I'll miss him, but Anjin should continue to serve well, and I've got plenty of other costumes to keep me busy at cons.

Posted 12 years agoAs you may have noticed, I've been having a lot of fun with my new camera. Should I make a second FA account to avoid spamming ya'll with pretty pictures?

Need Help On Choosing a Camera
Posted 12 years agoIn about 1 week's time I will be buying a new camera, and I want it to be a good one. I'm tired of my pocket camera being washed out or too dark or just too noisy.
For a lont time I've had my heart set on the Canon SX50 HS. Although it's a 1/2.3 sensor it has a 50x optical zoom (yes, 50 times optical, up to 200x digital). It has good reviews and great iso for a sensor that size, and I do a lot of wildlife photography so the zoom would be really helpful. Along with the 24-1200mm range, it does macro, 120fps video, and can shoot in raw.
On the other hand, I've recently been casting furtive glances at DSLRs. There's no way I could get as much zoom, but the pictures they take are just in a different league. The Pentax K-30 looks really nice, with one of the best APS-C sensors in its class. I like the idea of an all-in-one lens, such as Sigma's 18-250mm macro, or Pentax's own 18-270, but I cant easily tell how compromised the image is from trying to fit such a range into something so small.
I just don't know what to get!

College Life
Posted 13 years agoAfter a Thanksgiving break I've returned to college only to realize I really cant stand this place. There's nothing that appeals to me here any more and I'm the most satisfied when I'm drawing, which is something I can do now but almost certainty not next semester. I've only got two weeks of classes left but I just cant get myself excited about any of it.

I found this drawing from when I was 14. In it, you can see that it is very close to my current character layout. The colors are roughly the same (The pale taupe is still there, but hard to see due to scanner/colored pencil issues). However, the nose is a different color. Since the suit's first iteration in 2005, it's been an emerald green color, but on Finnish v5, it will return to its original hue.
