Posted a year agoReaching out to see if anyone here would like to take over this group
I feel that this group is important to keep going and I have done a poor job at maintaining it - mostly due to my busy life in the career and with family. If you are interested in keeping this great thing going and acknowledging all the brothers and sisters (and encouraging others to join the field), please let me know and we can try to work something out!
Stay safe and fight hard.
And when it comes to keeping yourself ready for the fight - remember the saying: "Would you want you rescuing you?" Lets work hard and encourage each other to attain and maintain that state of readiness!

Updated list
Posted 9 years agoI actually had a brainiac moment and decided to alphabetize the name list on our group. Strange that it too me this long to do that.
Anyhow, take a gander at said list and let me know if your name is missing and I shall rectify that.
Also... not scoring high on the captain list blows. ((But in light of that and learning from mistakes... I've got a load of some helpful sites and videos to help in the interview and testing processes!))
Rock on and stay safe everyone.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS
Posted 9 years agoLet's keep our brethren and sisters in Canada in our thoughts. They've got a hell of a fight in Alberta. Wish I could mutual aid with a department to help out.
((PS: I will get to all your comments and notes in the next few days. Sorry for the delinquency.)

It's GO time!
Posted 10 years agoSorry for my lack of activity lately. Been planning on doing this tower challenge tomorrow and I almost was not able to make it. Had a nasty cold the last month which REALLY killed my training and about had to cancel due to an honor guard function i was going to e called to.
Well all that aside, I piggybacked on another group going up tomorrow. It'll be 80;15 when I step foot on the first stair.... and probably get a stroke by the 5th floor on the way to the top.
So if any of you wanted to still donate to the cause of the "Climb for Air" from the American Lung Association, please shoot me a note when you do and your FA name so that I can give credit here. You all rock!

It's that time of year again!
Posted 10 years agoHello Brothers and Sisters,
It's nearing that time of year again for me to compete in the 'Fight for Air Climb' as hosted by the American Lung Association. They have, as usual, asked us to round up donations.
The event is the 28th of this month. If any of you have a desire to pitch in, please let me know before the 25th and we can work out a way to get your funds moved.
If for some reason I fail to make it to the Climb... due to illness or accident, I will refund you all 100%.

Exchanges
Posted 11 years agoHey all.
Im getting interested in doing some firefighter exchanges soon. BOth locally and abroad. Has anyone here had an experiance with that? Anyone willing to do something like it? Im not talking right away... I understand it's rather lengthy process to get things underway. BUt it's still cool to visit another department and learn their ways and share ideas. ESPECIALLY any German furs... I do plan on making a trip to Germany again within 2 years.
ALSO
What about fire department competitions? Morale in my area seams to have taken a dive... I want to breathe in new life and try to get our old musters and races back in action. WHo participates in that? I;d like some ideas.
AND
Anyone who's name is not on the list of Active fire service furs.... please note me and I'll post your name right away!

a little help please^^
Posted 12 years ago>>>Fully restored an old Survivair Mark 2.. and was too excited to try it out. I donned the old SCBA, checked and secured the harness, drew in a deep breath from the tank and then... COUGH!....HACK!......"OMG im gonna die!" ............................ Yeah, I forgot to drain the tank of the 30 year old stale air that had been stored in it. A mistake that I wont be making again hahaha!.<<<
Well, I've been putting together a set of vintage turnout gear to use for some various tower challenges and competitions... just for the hell of it. I've got every component I need with the exception of some 3/4 hip boots. Those little bastards are hard to find.
I need some help in finding a used pair in a size 14...(Yes I have big-ass feet). I've found a few new ones online for a pretty penny... but used would be better.
If any of you know where to find them or even have some connections, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks brothers!

Posted 12 years agoHey guys!
A little bit ago, i set a deadline for the 1st of July, for a memorial image to be waved on the main site here. It will be on display for 3 days, for each fallen firefighter/EMT that I am alerted to.
Even if you cannot draw, send me some ideas and we'll work together on it.
If all else fails... I'll be compiling something myself. Just trying to get you all involved.

Notice Contest Update
Posted 12 years agoAll Fire and EMS furs,
I humbly apologize for lack of monitoring this site. ((No real surprise there unfortunately)). I am trying to reply to all that have sent me a note an comment with intent and wishes to join. Please don't wait for me and go ahead and make it known to the fandom that you are a member ^^
In light of recent events such as the Texas explosion and the loss of one of our FA brothers a while back, I express condolences to all that are affected.
My state fire authority waves their flag at half mast for 3 days for every one of our fallen in the nation... and not too often is it seen at full mast. I'd like to do something similar on this FA site. I want all of your participation in creating a memorial image that will permanently be posted on the main submission slot, and will remain posted there for 7 days at a time, as long as I hear one of our brothers or sisters had fallen both within and without FA. It will be great when that submission is down once in a while.
But go ahead and either design an image or be ready to vote for one. I'll set a deadline for the 1st of July.
Much love to you all.

MERRY CHRISTMAS....AND OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES.
Posted 12 years agoMerry Christmas to you all!
Please let your thoughts and prayers be with the families of those firemen slaughtered in New York on Christmas Eve. Let your best wishes go out to those two who remain in critical care as well. And may the displaced families of that action be cared for.
.......and may that F***er burn in hell.

Lord Guide these firemen to heaven for they have reached the end of their wakeful watch. This will be their last call.

Ok. I need a little help...
Posted 13 years agoSeams I have not been holding up my end of maintaining this group. Really no excuse however busy my life has been lately.
I know a few of you have expressed a desire to be a co-modder with me. I'f you'd like to step up and help me out that would be fantastic.
On a quick report of my busy self. Just been relocated to another station and assigned as acting engineer until which point I compete in a test for the actual title. Most of m time has been devoted to renovating a new house I bought.
SO yeah! THis is not for me to ramble on about life. But again, I'd love to have a partner in crime here.
let me know!!

This is probably one of the more sobering things I have herd in the last year. Second only to a line of duty death which i've had to deal with as well.
Our thoughts go out to you brothers and sisters of the deactivated units... and prayers to the citizens who are no longer under their watch.
...how are your cities and departments dealing with the economy?
IM sorry Brothers...
Posted 13 years agoI've been way too neglectful to this site. Been way busy with things IRL.
I see I've a crap ton of messages and notes..... all of which will be addressed within the next week and new brothers added to our numbers.
On a side note..... I can finally say that I am a LEATHER HEAD. took 4 years but finally got them at our part time station... now to convince my chief at my fulltime gig to allow them....... I'll have to dust off my knee pads and get to work ;) LOL
Hope all of you are safe! Everyone goes home.
I'll reply to you all soon ^^

Highway Accidents.........

Dilema!
Posted 14 years agoWoah, well first of all. Nice helmet shots! Sorry I didn't get around to replying to them all... yet. Look nice!
Well with all the swift upward movement in my department, an Engineer test may be reopened. Im already certified ADO P & A. Now here are the pros and cons of this possible event.
Pros:
If selected, I'll be engineer.
Higher pay.
One step closer to Captain.
etc.
Cons:
No more going interior.
Fun for the first 15 minutes... then Im stuck at the pump panel and not inside the house.
Not really on the ambulance anymore.
etc.
Heres another factor in the equation. We've produced a lot of young captains and battalion chiefs to the point where rank advancement might plateau for a long while... so if I don't press on to engineer... I'd be stuck as a fireman for a possible 5 years to eternity.
I've only been a firefighter for 3 years.
Wonderful choices :P

Has brought up a rather cool idea! Check the paste below!
[QUOTE] so i had an idea on something that could be sold to members.
http://www.thefirestore.com/store/p.....lar_dark_navy/
but on the left chest have a custom fire/ems logo with a paw print inside of it (still needs to be made from someone)
What do you lot think?
Where have I been?
Posted 14 years agoBusting my tail and now I've finally reached full-time status!!!! Im now running the constant 2 on and 4 off. That along with my second fire job in between.
the cool thing is I assisted in the testing process for our new hires.... let me tell you... it feels so good to be on this side of the testing process LOL.
So, my next goal is to work my way up to the next rank of Engineer ( Im already certified to operate the ladder truck ) Just a waiting game for a while and then another test for that. With any luck and a fist full of years, I may be captain. but thats just being very optimistic.
So! what about you guys!? I've just noticed all your shouts about your progress! Thats awesome! Keep it up brothers.
PS..... my chief wouldn't allow the purchase of a leather helmet! GRRRRR! lol. I'll have to wait till he retires then weasel one in haha.
PSS: I've also updated some things in the page profile. You've got some more links to help out with fire jobs... also the members list is updated... but somehow the last line of names wont show the icons... for me anyways.

Posted 14 years agoIm back... I'll do my best to check up and respond more regularly. Im struggling actually to place full time at two part time stations.... doesn't help that the list I was on got yanked and I have to retest :P
Heres to luck.

Sorry for the delay (Temp Entry)
Posted 14 years agoBeen soo freakin' busy and am currently in Nevada training for refinery fires. Rest assured, I'll get with all of your posts and respond as well as being more active.
Till then brothers, be safe and continue to kick butt.

Posted 14 years agoI've discovered this awesome website dedicated to helping firefighters succeed up through the ranks of the department and gives pointers on how to sail through your interviews, resumes, at even department testing.
Give it a look! I'll be posing this link on the main page description for quick reference.
BUt for those of you hoping to excel, this is a very useful tool!
