Why furry cons will never be as big as anime cons.

On alcohol.
Posted 13 years agoSo yesterday a dude got really pissed at me when I refused a drink from him. He took my phone and threw it against a wall, and eventually had to go to the hospital after picking a fight with my neighbor. He asked "What kind of fucking pussy doesn't drink on Cinco de Mayo"? Of course I tweeted about this, and the part that surprised me the most were the responses telline me I should have taken up and had a drink.
My grandfather was a drinker. He loved Jack Daniels. He was a Tennessee Squire, and he proudly proclaimed that fact. In fact, even as his body failed him, he always had a bottle of it hidden away at the nursing home. I wasn't there, but I heard he died with half a glass at his side.
My Grandmother was more of a Canadian Club gal herself. By the time I could talk, I could recite her favorite drink order. "Canadian Club on the rocks in a brandy snifter glass please!" When she died she had the sense to finish her glass.
My mom? Smirnoff woman all the way. I remember very well as a 12 year old going to refill her drink from the freezer, making sure to keep the lemon cause we couldn't afford many. I also remember all my friends telling me about how our apartment had a fire while I was at school. There wasn't a fire, it was just the department taking my mom away because she couldn't stand anymore.
I guess all I'm trying to say is it isn't in my genes to drink. In fact I've been faking it for a while. Every time you see me at a con? It's just a coke with a lime in it. If I'm tweeting about how wasted I am at a party, you can be pretty sure I'm lying through my teeth. Hell I've even used it as an excuse to get out of some social situations. "Sorry man, I'm kinda drunk, I'd love to go to your room party, I'm just gonna go pass out in my room"
Now, I have had a drink on occasion, but I'm not going to make a habit out of it. And I'm not saying drinking is some kind of sin and you're a horrible person for drinking. I'm just saying in my family with my genes I'm not cut out for it, so don't throw punches and destroy my phone if I decline a drink.

Important changes...
Posted 13 years agoOk, so I put a lot of thought into this, so please bear with me. This means a lot to me.
Being a skunk is overrated. I mean, you're fluffy, adorable, and have an amazing way with the ladies, but what does everyone know you for? That's right, spraying things. You could be the kindest, friendliest, most recently showered critter in the room but of course the place clears in case you lift tail. Well, no more I say, I'm tired of that game. I'm just gonna cut out all the fluff and give people what they want. From now on forever my fursona is a fire extinguisher.
That's right, you heard me. If that's the only thing people care about skunks, I'll just be the thing whose sole purpose is spraying.
http://i.imgur.com/8NC5d.png Here is my reference image.
Artists, if you've ever drawn my as my old and busted Skunk fursona, I demand you re-draw me as my new hottness extinguisher-sona.
That is all, thank you for your time.

So Caiden wants to go sky diving...
Posted 14 years agoAbout an hour away from Anthrocon there is a skydiving field, and I'm going to try to get a group out there to go. I'm working on getting my solo license, so I can jump without an instructor, and if all goes well in fursuit. >:3
Would anyone be up for it? It's about $200 for a first timer to jump, if I recall.

Posted 14 years ago3,333 miles.
Posted 14 years agoArrives back home, and my trip meter read exactly 3,333 miles from when I started my big ass road trip two weeks ago.
Places hit:
Burger Nexus (White Castle across from Krystal) - Nashville TN ( as suggested by
yippee)
Old FWA hotel - Atlanta GA
New FWA hotel - Atlanta GA
Megaplex hotel - Orlando FL
Epcott - Disney World - Orlando FL
Universal Studios - Orlando FL
Old Megaplex hotel - Jacksonville FL
Furaffinity - Virgina.
Furstuvus - Philly
Old Anthrocon hotel (old Adam's Mark, now a target)
Current Anthrocon convention center - Pittsburgh
Ohayocon Convention center
Old IFC hotel
Seven travel days, with more than four hours on the road.
Total trip cost: $650 (food, gas, hotels, everything except an oil change)
Every year or so I try to do a "Walden pond" esque relaxation trip for self reflection and improvement. This year it came in the form of a two week trip across the country.
So all I knew before heading out was I had to be in southern Florida for Xmas and Philly for New Year's. Other than that I had no real idea what I wanted to do until after I hit the road. First night I found myself in Nashville, eating at the Burger Nexus, eating 16 tiny burgers, 8 from Krystal and 8 from White Castle (White Castle won).
I hit the old FWA hotel the next day, spending an hour or two in the lobby waiting on a friend, then I moved to the new FWA hotel cause why not? I got the idea there to hit as many con's hotels as I could along the way.
Kept going until I hit Megaplex's hotel in Orlando, and spent the night there before moving on to southern florida to meet the family for a few days.
After getting kicked out of there pretty damn quick (I forgot my family hates me) I headed back to Orlando and got into Disney for Christmas. Met some interesting and awesome people there, and even was invited to dinner with a couple from Germany.
I went to universal after that, intending to just go around the city walk, but after a bit of confusion and getting stuck behind a big group, I found myself in the theme park and rode Jaws 10 times, since it was going to be taken down very soon.
After saying goodbye to Orlando, I headed north to Jacksonville, intending to visit Tastings, the restaurant and wine bar across from Megaplex's old hotel. I almost cried when I found it was turned into an internet cafe. :c Kept going north until I finally got to meet up with
dax and he took me out for some damn good wings and to visit Furaffinity's servers. I felt dirty after leaving the server room for some reason.
I hit Furstivus after that, the New year's con that was thrown together in seven weeks by
skippyfox
protocollie and a bunch of super dedicated furs up there.
I had an absolute blast and loved it, and I'll have a full report from that later. <3
I said goodbye to Philly yesterday and intended to drive straight home, but I hit a HUGE AS HELL blizzard and got stuck about Pittsburgh and stayed outside of the city at the same motel I stayed at heading to AC my first year in 2008. Drove in to the city to get breakfast and hit Fernando's since I've never actually been to it during the con. Walked around the Westin a little bit and debated getting a pic in suit or something but decided against it since I didn't have anyone to take the pic.
Straight from there to Columbus where I went to Ohayocon's convention center and had lunch across the way. I haven't been there since 2010, but it was along the way. Might hit it this year if I got the weekend free.
Made it to Indy for dinner so I hit IFC's old hotel and had a quick bite there before heading back to Champaign in time for the weekly coffee meet.
So I'm back now, and I get to be home for two days till I head out to FC! :D

Who wants a Christmas Card?
Posted 14 years agoSo I'm at about 25 names or so for my Xmas card list this year, which is nothing compared to last year's call, so I'm poking everyone again.
If you want a card, just note or E-mail me ( Billybob @ Wtf . com) your address. If I don't know you all that well, or if we've never even talked, it's ok, you can still ask for a card. I want to send out a TON of these guys. :D
Also, if you want to send me a card, just ask, and I'll give you my address as well. I usually do something noce for each card I get, last year I donated $10 to the ASPCA for each card.
