I'm here... An Update of The Past Few Months

I have been very quiet for the past few months and I owe you (especially my commissioners) an explanation. BFC at the end of Sept was great, but after I went home things with my back injury progressed poorly and I spent most of my working days at the day job in pain. I could not concentrate enough to draw after work and just had to spend my time laying down.
Some of you may know that I had my 4th back surgery on November 12th; an L4/5 fusion this time. It has not been easy. Because of my previous surgeries the doctors were forced to remove a large amount of scar tissue from the surrounding vertebrae as well as remove some scared back muscle tissue. While I am healing, it is taking much much longer than my previous surgeries. My body is not happy with the metal that now surrounds part of my spine nor is it happy about losing muscle. I have a projected 6-months to 1-year for full recovery.
I started physical therapy yesterday, and oh boy! my back hates it! Doing leg lifts, and planks causes me a huge amount of muscle pain. However, that is to be expected as my back muscles re-learn how to be back muscles. With time I will mend up.
So please bear with my silence on the internet. It is very hard to be motivated right now.
For those of you waiting on your BFC 2024 badge or other commission, your money is held in escrow. If you would like a refund because of how long it is taking me to complete even simple tasks, just email me and I will be more than happy to provide your money back. And please do not feel bad if you want a refund! It's your money. If you want it back, it's not mine to keep.

I Will NOT Be Leaving FurAffinity

I have decided that I will NOT be leaving FA completely. I have deleted the vast majority of my galleries, and my JadeArchive FA account has been deleted and I still plan on migrating over to Weasyl for my online art gallery needs.
So why the change in decision? I have been working with a select group of babyfurs and FA staff members on telegram to attempt to help fix all of the babyfur/FA issues. And while I am hopeful that things are being updated for the good, I am still tentative about future outcomes. Bad staff have left, new staff are being on-boarded, things seem to be going in the right direction. But, for my part, the trust has been broken and I just do not want to risk my account being banned.
I am also part of a discussion telegram with babyfurs and Weasyl staff. We are working there to get a better understanding of things; clear upload policy, what is and is not mature when it comes to babyfur art, et al. I am way more excited about being on Weasyl based on the information I am privy to. I suggest you make an account and follow me there.

I will probably still upload here. But I will only upload art that has no way of breaking the upload policy. No wet diapers, no messy diapers, no potty pictures, etc. Only clean, non offensive art. I just don't want to fuck around when a mass report by bad actors can seriously harm the babyfur community for frivolous reasons.

I Will Be Leaving FurAffinity
Posted a year agoFirst a bit of back story. As many of you know I was part of the babyfur art ban that occurred shortly after BFC (about a month ago now). I was able to reach out to the FA staff and I was able to get my account reinstated within a day or so. A few days after that I was able to start having conversations with members of the FA staff. I offered to help clarify the 2.7 upload policy rules (along with others in the babyfur community). I shared what I thought should be done and I pushed to have clarification; some of my words even appear in the new 2.7.
In my opinion what FA is attempting to do in keeping CP off of the platform is commendable. But I feel the plot was lost. And now the upload policy feels even more restrictive. I will not post logs of the private conversations I had with FA staff member; so don't ask. But for me, I lost confidence when I finally understood (reading between the lines) that the rules were being created because they believe babyfur art is icky.
I signed up to FA on March 22nd of 2007. That's a hell of a long time. LOL. It was fun while it lasted. I WILL BE CLOSING MY FA ON NOVEMBER 16TH, 2024.
I will be migrating my artwork over to Weasyl over the coming months. But I plan to delete everything here on FA. I will hold on to the account, but the only thing that will remain will probably be this post, and a picture directing people to my other social media platforms.

Life Is Hard: A Long Overdue Update
Posted 5 years agoHey, everyone. I hope you're all doing well? You may be wondering, 'where'd jade disappear to now?' I've been around. I've just been lurking because of life. So much is all sorts of crazy right now. I have been putting off a lot of stuff in my life due to 2020 being such a bitch. But I owe the people on my commission list an explanation at the very least so I figured I would post what has been going on as of late.
Covid has taken my best friends father (a man I have known since I was 7-years-old) and four DA artist friends (to be fair, I only chatted with them online, knowing them since DA was a new thing on the net, and I don't know their real names... but I'm still sad). I know over 20 people that have tested positive; from friends to co-workers. So, yeah... that's been bringing me down lately.
My parents live full time in a motorhome (they are "snowbirds"). But since Covid is a bitch, all of the campgrounds where they would stay in the summer are not allowing non-local people. So I removed my back fence and we pulled their motorhome into my yard. They have been living with me since May. And it is driving me a bit bonkers. I love them but my mother is neurotic as shit. I haven't been able to cub out since they have been here.
Thankfully however my parents have been helping me with my kitchen remodel. Over the winter the pipes in the kitchen froze multiple times due to the location of the pipes not being under the foundation. I am now 95% complete with the kitchen thanks to my parents help but it was a bitch living without a kitchen sink for over a month. I had to gut it all. Walls, floor, all of it. But now it is rewired and replumbed. I just have to finish off the baseboards and door frames.
For those that don't know, I live in Minneapolis. Only a few miles from where George Floyd was murdered. Only a few miles from the riots. Only a few blocks from the National Guard staging area. Thankfully, as of this writing, Mpls has calmed down and the looting and riots have been replaced by protests and people being listened to. But it is a very weird atmosphere here.
On top of all of that, back in January my company laid off about 25% of the staff. Including all employees (sans me) in my department. However the work load has not changed. From about June 1st to last week I was working 60-hour weeks to keep up with the summer marketing schedule. I'm a bit burnt out at the moment due to the stress and depression of my work environment.
And that brings me to badges. I am sorry to Wuffles, Storm, Jeri, and Drykus (see below). I should have had all of your badges done a long time ago. I am going to make a very solid effort this week to get things going again.
You will also notice that the list below is much shorter than the list in my last journal. After reviewing my notes, my PayPal history, and my little stack of badge sketches, I have removed all people in my queue who had not yet paid. If you believe I am in error please reach out to me via email and we can figure it out. I will not be adding people back onto my queue list at this time (unless you paid and I messed up). My life is just too hectic right now.
So, yeah... that is the story of my 2020 so far.

BFC #1: Thoughts & Badges
Posted 5 years agoWell... BFC #1 (BabyFurCon), the online Zoom based furry con for babs hosted by Nacho and supported by lots of other babs, was pretty darn cool! I finally got to actually speak to Tavi and Reva, and Cobalt, and a slew of other artists (you all know who you are :P). It was great to finally put a voice to furs I have followed online for years.
I ended up taking some badge commissions during my “time slot”, which I have added to the queue below. I want to thank everyone who popped in to chat with me while I drew pictures! It was great. A much needed dose of human interaction.

Live Updates and Shit: February 2020 Edition
Posted 5 years agoSorry for ghosting out for so long. The end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 has been... let's go with "interesting". Starting way back in October I put my condo on the market; selling it and buying a house (closing on Halloween of all days). Packing, moving, unpacking, fixing up the new place (adding insulation to the attic to save money on heating). That process, while done now, is crazy stressful.
Then, shit hit the fan in December. My cousin died out of the blue. I got hit with the B version of the flu and lost a week of work because I was busy dying. My best friend lost his job. My sister lost her job. I hurt my back again (just a tweak). Then on the first day back in the office after the Christmas break my company laid off about 35% of the staff. I am the only one on my team that didn't get cut; my employees, my boss... all gone.
So yeah... not really an excuse for not finishing up my badges but at least it is an explanation. Below is the current queue that I am still working on. If you are in this list shoot me an email and we can discuss your badge state. I am happy to make changes to your descriptions and all that.

Life/Art Update
Posted 6 years agoFirst off, I am very sorry to those in my badge queue who are still waiting on getting their art. There is no excuse, but I would like to at least offer an explanation.
When I took on the huge badge list I did not expect that a month later I would be promoted at work to a management level. I also did not expect that my new role would require so much travel. I have been on 8 flights since March, I leave this morning for another trip (I will return home on August 27th), and I already have another flight scheduled for mid September.
Being gone for 5 to 10-days at a time has killed a lot of my home time. Hopefully that will ease up a bit after this trip and I can finally get back into the drawing habit again.
I will be emailing everyone in my badge list after my trip (August 27th) to offer a refund or the opportunity to change their badge idea and descriptions. So if you are in the list below, know that I will be getting in touch with you about your badge after I get home.
Again, I am sorry to those that have been waiting. I won't have access to FA until I return home. So, while notes are awesome, I won't see them until I get back.

MFF 2018: Recap & Thanks
Posted 7 years agoFinally Home! While only 6-hours, the drive across Wisconsin is boring. But I am happy to be home. Even more happy that I will get to sleep in my own bed tonight. My soft, soft, more comfy than a hotel bed, bed. *happy sigh*
What an amazing MFF! I am pretty sure this is the most fun I have had at that Con. I got to work, I got to hang, I got to do stupid stuff… it was pretty darn great. I need to give a huge huge THANK YOU to everyone I got to meet and hang out with. There is no way I remember every name; there were something like 300 cubs there (so I was told), so if you hung out with me (or, rather, put up with me) thank you very very much! I remember MFF when there was only like 10 cubs there, this change over the years is amazing! However, quick personal shout out to the cubs of 2040! You all ROCK! You know who you are.
But I do need to give a huge shout out to my allies in artist; Wen and Kiama (who put up with me the most), Cargo (who was rocking the alley with us), Cobalt (who I wanted to chat with more but didn’t get the chance), Breezy (who also knocked it out of the park in the alley), and Myoti (the ever shy batty who is fun to talk with). Also, thanks to Thay; you are welcome. :P Having so many cub artists in one alley (in one table row actually) was astonishing; never thought I would see that.
If you are reading this and you didn’t get a chance to attend MFF, I suggest you give it a try sometime. While large, it is super fun.
Now I just have to finish up my “take home” list of badges and get ready for the future! After a lot of discussion, I have some changes and stuff coming in the future.

Crouching Fox, Hidden Commissions (My MFF 2018 Plans)

I have worked the MFF con for years, sitting in the artist alley every day, drawing badges, doing sketches, and working the con. Well, I am going to take a break from that this year. See the con, go to panels, visit with friends, relax.
I will be doing the artist alley on Friday only this year. And I am only going to take 10 Badge commissions while in there; just enough to cover my MFF costs. I will post to Twitter when I am in there.
However, I am going to take a few take home actual, full on, commissions. They will NOT be completed during MFF, and I will only be taking a few. If you are going to MFF look for me, and if you find me, you might be able to get a full commission from me. I will post on Twitter more info of what to look for. But long story short, I will be wearing a collection of "pins" or "buttons" and if you see me wearing one, you can ask and get a commission.

Multi-Spot YCH - Slight Change of Plans

This morning I posted a YCH Auction that I am going to do 5 slots for. This is a first for me and... well, I wish I would have put more thought into how I was going to make it run smoothly. I had a lot of great feedback on Twitter and I am going to incorporate some of the ideas I was given.
Because I am often short of short-sighted on these sorts of things, a lot of furs were at work when the auction was posted. Which meant that the auction was closed before they even got a chance to make a bid. So, in the spirit of fairness I am going to try something.
YCH 2 of 5 will happen exactly as 1 of 5 did; standard auction rules. HOWEVER, 3, 4 and 5 of 5 will have one additional thing added. The "Auto Buy" option will be converted into a "Random Auto Buy".
I am going to allow multiple "Auto Buy" submissions in the bidding section. If there are multiple furs who type "Auto Buy" for any particular one of these YCH's, then those furs who want to "Auto Buy" will get added to a random number generator. After the 48-hours I will then use the generator to choose the winner.
To be clear, this will go from an Auction to a Raffle. The winner of the number generator will be the only fur who will pay, and receive the finished artwork.
I am very sorry for my short-sightedness on this. Please keep in mind that this was my first attempt at doing a multi-spot YCH and... well, I didn't think it through as much as I thought I did.
As always, I am completely open to your thoughts and feedback.

Multi-Spot YCH - FEEDBACK WANTED

Recently I posted a preview of my next YCH to my Twitter. It was pointed out that I should do multi-spot versions so more furs can get a pic. I have been pondering that.
I prefer to do "one off" pictures, knowing that there will only ever be one of a particular picture. I mainly do this because I am doing all of my furry work traditionally (I work digitally at my job and it is nice to keep up the traditional stuff at home).
What are your thoughts? Should I do a multi-spot YCH for my next picture? Your feedback is very very welcome and, indeed, very very wanted.

Art Blocks, Depression, YCH's, and Life
Posted 7 years agoThis has been in interesting 2018 so far. Last December I was dealing with a bunch of stuff at work that put me into a pretty bad state of depression which has triggered a bad art block that I am having issues breaking.
I am on the board for my HoA and we have a crazy guy causing issues. Covering his walls with Sharpie marker type issues. Ripping out his A/C and tearing down his garage door looking for government listening devices type issues. And now, I had to call the cops on him yesterday. I have become his new nemesis. Sigh.
I still have things from MFF 2017 that I have yet to finish because of all that stuff above. I know what I have to do to get past my art block. I have to finish one of my sketch YCH things. Its how I broke my block last time. SO, If you are in the group below please be aware that I am about to do a YCH Auction this week.
I would like to offer a refund if anyone in the group below who would like one. Also, if anyone in the group below would like to drop off my old MFF queue that is totally fine with me. Just shoot me a message and I will get that all updated.

MFF 2017: Recap & Homework

Well, another MFF has come and gone. I can't believe that the con has hit 8700 attendees. It is insane that there are that many furs in one location. But I suppose Chicago is the most centralized location and it is easy to get furs from both coasts to attend. If you have not had the chance to make it to MFF I recommend that you try; it is worth the trip.
Huge thanks to all of those that let me pester them. Especially to those that were nice enough to let me tag along (or tagged along with me) to dinner. That would be Lokai and Radix, Toya, Panda, Kitsunekla, Lego, Zest, Doobie, Big Fops, Swiffer, and... some other that I can't remember right now. Thank you to Kelby and Mak for putting up with my Polish side. Thanks to Blithe for inviting me to the party. Thanks to Island (it was great to finally meet you). Thanks to everyone really. If I tried to name everyone this list would go on forever. If I forgot to mention you, shout me out in the comments! Please.
One funny story of note. At one of the cub parties I met a fur (who shall remain nameless) that, while we were talking about art and artists, mentioned that there was some new woman artist on Twitter who was obviously copying Marci McAdam. He could not remember the artists name, but thought it was something like J. Fox or something. Another fur mentioned that it was probably JadeFox; and that Jade is a guy. The first fur looked it up and said, "Yeah, JadeFox... sort of a Marci copy but more angular", then shrugged.
I started laughing so hard. The fur in question was then informed that the guy standing beside him was Jade Fox. He must have turned sixteen shades of red. He was so embarrassed.
Sorry, dude. Please don't feel bad. I am aware that I have a similar style. In all honesty, I take it as a compliment.
MFF Take Home Arts:
A lot of you were very kind enough to want a picture by me. I cannot thank you enough for that. Being an artist and having people want a picture in your style is flattering in a way I can't explain. I am sure all artists feel the same way as I do on that front.

Need to fund my MFF trip... EDITED: 16 Oct 16

As I have made note on my Twitter and in my previous journal I will be attending MFF this year. To that end I need to be able to pay for my hotel room, gas, and food at the con. So I have a question for all of you. Or rather two questions.
Which one of these options would you prefer:
1. Should I do a couple YCH auctions?
2. Should I do an MFF badge pre-sale?
If I do the YCH auctions I will post two sketches that I've been saving in my sketchbook that I will post on November 1st. I will then work on those to be completed before MFF. But that will depend on the amount of work it will take to update the sketches.
If I do the badge pre-sale it will be for between 15 and 20 badges. I will then get those badge sketches approved and the finished badges will be given to their owners at MFF. The sale would only be for those who are going to MFF in order to lighten my load while I am sitting in the Artist Alley.

Update: Badges, YCH's, Cons, and Stuff

I just wanted to post a little update on the state of Badges, YCH's, and Stuff.
July and August are super hectic for me. I spent most of July and the beginning of August at work gearing up for a convention that I have to go to for work. I do video work (motion graphics animation, editing, sound design, et al) for my job and I have to prepare all of the TVs at the con and get a bunch of stuff done. The first half of August I was in Indianapolis for work.
I then came home for 3-days, then left again for my scheduled vacation in the BWCA wilderness area in Minnesota. Canoeing and camping far far far away from anything. It is something I look forward to every year and it is my recharger for my life. I got home from that trip on September 4th.
So, now I am finally home! I know a lot of furs are still waiting on a badge from me (see my other journal; 12-Hour Badge Sale). Rest assured, I am working on badges again. I have updated the list and my plan is to have them all done in September. If you are on that list and you feel it has taken me too long, send me a message and I can update you or offer you a refund.
After I get the badges done I will be posting some new YCH auction pictures. I have 3 sketches that I am happy with and I am looking forward to coloring them.
Right now I plan on attending MFF. I know I will sit in the Artist Alley each day it is open, but I don't know what I plan on doing. Probably badges and sketches, but I will be doing limited numbers or I won't get them done during the con.
So yeah... That's what's going on. ^_^

Of YCH Auctions and Other Shenanigans

I recently cleared off my YCH Previews and finished all of the winners artworks. Now I am not sure what to do. Below is a list with a few ideas that I have floating around in my head at the moment. These are just a few of the things that I am thinking / asking all of your opinions on. If you have any further feedback I am totally wiling to hear you out.
1. I still have a few sketches floating around in my sketchbook. Would you like me to post those as I did before and continue with the YCH Auctions? How could I make the process easier if I did?
2. I keep thinking of taking badge commissions again. I am unsure of this however. I don't know what I should charge (I keep coming back to $50), or how to do it. If I open for slots only those that get a slot in time will get a badge. If I open for a timeframe (say, Friday to Sunday) I might get swamped and feel overwhelmed. What are your thoughts?
3. I still am very wary of taking on full commissions because of how badly I was burnt out from last time. I also don't want to piss off YCH winners, many of whom paid a lot of money and I don't want to water down their pieces by suddenly taking commissions again. There are some other reasons as well, but I won't go into those right now.
I want to hear back from as many people as possible so please don't feel shy to comment.

3. I still am very wary of taking on full commissions because of how badly I was burnt out from last time. I also don't want to piss off YCH winners, many of whom paid a lot of money and I don't want to water down their pieces by suddenly taking commissions again. There are some other reasons as well, but I won't go into those right now.

Furry Quiz!
Posted 8 years agoThis thing has been floating around Twitter and here on FA, so I figured I would jump on the bandwagon since I like bands and wagons.
1. Been in the fandom for...
2017 year marks 16-years.
2. Found the fandom how?
I stumbled across the artwork in 2001 and it lead me down a rabbit hole (no pun intended) until I found Yahoo boards (or some such message board thing) for a Minneapolis meet of "Furries". I was intrigued so I went and met "Furries". I have been in the fandom ever since.
3. Chose your species cuz...
I love foxes! I love their colors. I love how they present themselves (stance, movements). I love how they are half cat and half dog. I love them. Simple as that. They are my favorite animal.
4. why/how did you choose your name?
LOL. This is stupid, but... I had recently seen the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2001) and was like, Jade Fox! Wow, what a great furry name. It shall now totally be my furry name. Because I like foxes and I like that movie. I am a unique snowflake! Yeah... it didn't take long for me to facepalm that. But the name stuck so I have always kept it.
5. if you had to change your species what would you choose?
White Tailed Deer. My second favorite animal. They are too cute for words. Also, Bambi is my favorite Disney movie.
6. What percentage of your friends are furries?
About 50%.
7. If you've been, favorite furry con and why?
Midwest Furfest is my favorite just because I get to social butterfly so many people. Furry Migration is a close second because it is six-miles from my house.
8. Got a fursuit?
I do,
9. RP'ing is:
Meh... not my thing.
10. Are you open about being a furry, I.E if it comes up in conversation.
Sometimes. I keep it pretty guarded. I don't share at work, but most of my friends know I am.
11. Gay / Straight / bi?
Gay.
12. Ever kissed another furry?
Yes.
13. Do you have adult art of your fursona?
Yes. But I long ago pulled it down from the net. There are those that might have it.
14. Ever hooked up with another fur? If yes, ever done it at a con?
Nope.
15. Opinion on murrsuits?
Meh... not my thing.

Fuck 2016... Hope 2017 is Better!

Dire title, right? Click bait at its best. And yet, it's true. We lost a ton of role models; from Alan Rickman and Carrie Fisher, to Prince and David Bowie (and many many more). We voted in "The Donald" as president in the U.S. *facepalm*. We destroyed a little bit more of the environment. And we keep getting fooled because we now live in the era of "post truth". Yeah... *sigh*
On a personal level, 2016 sucked balls for me too. Just since December 10th, I got in a huge fight with a family member; my favorite cousins' husband (who is an awesome person) had both kidneys fail (currently on dialyses and awaiting a transfer); I have been sick twice (con crud and my sisters kids gave me a wicked cold that I am currently suffering from); The engine in my car broke the timing chain, which blew my engine, which forced me to buy a new car (car payments again... wee); and just to add icing to the top of that crap cake, I have Jury Duty.
So, yeah... I am a little behind on finishing drawings, getting my social media accounts up and running, and in general, being available. Below is the most up-to-date list of where I am at with drawings and such. I have skeleton sketches done for everyone in my MFF Sketch List, I just need to finish the details and all that fun stuff. Tomorrow I am going to try to force myself to get those done, sick be damned. Then it is on to getting the Commissions List done. If you are in either of the lists below and you would like a status update, just shoot me a message and I will let you know where I am with your picture.
