I got to work to a load of stuff to do. I then get beaten up by a kennel. Then I go home 2 hours earlier ^^

Well, I guess it's about time for a year in review even though this year hasn't ended yet. Think of this a Pre-review. Well, I mind as well start from the beginning.

January started off with a bang. I braved the winter storm and went to my new boyfriend's place in the middle of nowhere. I never knew I'd be so nervous in my life. I made it to the middle of nowhere, storming away and waiting for his car to appear. Sure enough it did and I followed him back to his place. He introduced me to his home which he called "the shack" It was small, but it was charming. The wood stove was nice, the quiet was nicer, and the cuddles were the nicest of them all.
Finally, I had to return back to my new home. I started my new job. It was the happiest I had ever been. I had everything and I still wonder to this day what made me deserve to lose it all.
I lost my job, a knife sticking out of my back. My boyfriend rushed down to make sure I was ok. I was anything but. Him coming down earned my mother's approval, so I guess some good came out of that. I guess he saved me that day. I was devastated and he took care of me and made sure I got something to eat and stayed relatively hydrated.
The next months fared no better. He moved down closer to me, I had found a new job. My new job sucked ass. I lost confidence in my abilities so damn fast that I considered quitting the occupation. It sounded like a good idea at the time. All the progress I gained at EVEC went to hell and then some. I used to be damn good at catheters and getting blood, now I couldn't do either of those. I was a shitty tech, why keep going? I was finished, I was nothing.
I lost that job, thankfully...I think I had thrown in the towel so much, I didn't care. My purpose in life had been decimated. At this point, I owe my life to Martin and his mother. They made sure I kept going. They made sure I didn't stop. I look back on it now, I guess it was beneficial all this had happened to me...I learned a valuable lesson. There is more to life than just work. There is so much more to enjoy.
I found a new job. I made the heartbreaking decision to move back to my hometown. I fought with myself for days. I don't know what possessed me to decide to go back. I know part of it was that I needed to be saved. I knew who could save me. I applied to all the places that could save me. One accepted me. I was moving back home, and I was once again going back to my mentor. She was the one who taught me everything at the beginning of my career. I was desperate to go back to the start and start over.
Soon after I arrived, I found out my mentor was leaving. Yeah, that was a mess and a half. I was hurt for sure and a little scared. I only worked a few shifts with her and she was leaving. What was I going to do? Was I not going to ever be saved? I was so terrified that everything I had loved and lived for was going to come crashing down. Yeah, mess and a half that week was. Found out my mentor was leaving, got caught up in drama beyond all belief, and lost my boyfriend a good chunk of his friends.
Friends? Hah. Yeah right. If you have a problem with me, say it to my face so I could give you a piece of my mind again. It's just cowardly to hide behind a computer. Meh, I'm kind of in the attitude of what's done is done. No taking it back, gotta live with it.
I went to my first furry con this year. I have to admit, part of me didn't want to go. But, I had time booked off for work...guess it's cut and done. I enjoyed myself as much as I could. Heck, we were screwed over of a room. Luckily, Martin always had a plan B. It still hurts a bit to this day. I guess it was a relief at least when a friend saw me, came towards me and hugged me and said "I'm glad you could make it" It was a relief. I wasn't hated. I was very glad when I met my penpal for the first time in 6 years since we started talking. We talked each other through the thick of it all. It was a surreal moment that we had finally met.
Work, well, I have to say, it's been a rough few months. With the tech shortage, I've been pulling more hours and while I did like that nice bounce to my paycheque. I think I nearly died in November! I mean, heck, my skin was gross beyond all belief from all the stress. I'm pretty sure there were piles of my skin flakes everywhere in the clinic. December, they decided to fix my schedule to work longer days and more days off. The manager asked what I usually did on my days off. I always said "Go to Edmonton, visit my boyfriend" She was amazed at my commitment. Offered me a deal for December. I work all weekends and long days but in return, I get longer days off. I agreed to that. I missed out on a lot of things working weekends but I made the deal, I have no regrets. And that kind of schedule sticks for January, I'll just check to see if I at least get a weekend off. Thinking back on it now, this workplace has saved me as well. I came there a few months ago with my confidence crushed. I regained most of my abilities. They're not what they were once but, close to it. It's been a lifesaver. Maybe one day this place will undo all the damage my previous clinic has done...I hope.
As for family life, well, I think that's been sucking more than just balls. Thanks to all the night shifts, I barely ever see my parents. I appreciate them greatly, for it means that I get to come home to dinner, even after working 3 hours overtime. My mom and I fought for most of this year, but things have cooled down for now. Keep it distant, I guess. I never really had much of a relationship with my dad. My brother, well, he's the only one with good news. My sister, rough time for her. A few months ago, we got a call from her and she was pregnant. I was semi excited about being an aunt. My parents excitedly rushed to visit her and give them her well wishes. One day, I was getting ready for work when I got a message from her. She had a miscarriage. My jaw dropped, and she was telling me about how devastated she felt and how awful she felt for disappointing my dad. We both knew that stuff like this happened, but it's still a horrible feeling. We've all accepted it and are now quietly hoping for a next time.
As for Martin, my boyfriend, no need for hope, it is done. He stood by me, defended me instead of abandoning me for his peers. It takes a rare and virtuous person to do that. I'm so glad he did that for me. I remember confiding to a coworker what happened. I remember she said "And he's still with you? That is a good boyfriend. That takes a real man to stand up for what's right." He's basically become my escape from reality. Work gives me enough days off to go visit him and it is always a relief when I have the chance. He's done a lot for me. What I've done for him pales by comparison greatly. I guess what keeps me happy is that I haven't changed him for the worst, at least I hope so...

So, that is my year in review. Here's to 2011 and high hopes for 2012.

So, continuing my previous journal entry, today sucked. Woke up at 8:30am to a spam of texts. Now I appreciate the good cheer, but not 4 hours after bed time. So, I deal with that and people seemed to get the point. Until, I woke up a few hours later to my phone ringing. Oh dear, it's work. Answer the phone to the morning tech asking me to come in a bit early as she said something about labour and crowning. I agree as I get to leave earlier. So I pick myself up to take a shower only to get back to her calling. Yeah it was "we need you sooner" *sigh* 2 hours before my shift only to find put that I can come and leave early but I'm still on call until 3am. Lovely. The day was relatively normal. Until a seizing puppy comes in. We get it stable and everything and stuff it in a kennel.

Well that was fun...puppy freaks out of its kennel, I catch it only to hit my head on the kennel door as I quickly bend forward as it flips out of my arms. I then straighten up hoping to get it back in its kennel only to slam my back into the kennel door then bounce and hit the back of my head. I finally straighten up, slump against the counter and clutched the still twitching puppy. Yeah...lovely...

Well, for me coming into work, I got two movie vouchers...Cruuuuger!

Well, Merry Christmas to you all. I have to say, this has been one of the better Christmas Eves I've gotten. The day started out with me chatting with a client for nearly 45 minutes. It was actually quite relaxing talking about work and life and everything. Once that was done, it was me catching up on things at the back and then taking care of reception. So, it's been a long few weeks. Good news is I managed to finally get a weekend off. That was all I needed to recover from the slight burn out. Bad news is I'm burning out again. Yeah, all this understaffed crap is really wearing me thin. Yesterday was my first morning shift in goodness knows how long. I figured "Ah, morning shift, oh hallelujah, finally a little slack" That was until I waltzed into work and my vet of the day was like "Well, you ready for this? We're screwed" I was the only tech until 12 and the appointments were booked. One vet was in surgery full shift, another appointments and my tech appointment schedule was booked solid. At one point, I was actually supposed to be at 3 places at once. I managed at the end, luckily.
Today was much better. Well, aside from having a very off day. It was still unfortunately busy. For some very odd reason, they fully booked the same vet for full surgeries again...That left me on the floor thinking "Well, this sucks balls..." Fortunately, again, I managed by the skin of my teeth.
Well, tomorrow is back to my trusty night shifts...please be alright...then I got two days in a row of staff meetings.

Well, I'm finally off work for now. I have to say, the new schedule is starting to really get to me. Not just me though. I managed to catch my friend at work and we looked over the schedule that we've been on for nearly a month now. I think we're the two that have been most screwed over by the schedule. Moreso me since I get all the night shifts. We looked at each other and talked about how we missed weekends and I think we both mentioned that we were starting to feel burnt out. I hate to admit it but I'm definitely feeling some burn out here. I'm less tolerable of newbies. I'm still able to be polite and help them out, but I'm less jumpy at it.

*Rant ahead*

Ok, lets start with the light stuff. People, I am getting tired of being shot as the messenger here! I pass something on and next thing I know, something blows up in my face. It's not until someone calm asks me what's up is when everyone seems to forgive me.

Ok, this is for the sake of something that's been on my mind for the last few months. So far, most furries have been good about it. But, some furries tend to jump to conclusions too quickly. Now, to get to the point, when you hear a story, get both sides of the story. Don't just backstab someone based on what one or two people on one side has said. I'm not going to elaborate on the reasoning behind this. Whoever wants to know, will try to know. Some unforeseen events will happen, but basically, those who deserve to know, will know. those who jump to conclusions do not deserve to know the whole story.

It has definitely been a rough week. Oh well, time to take a day to reverse my sleep schedule so I could go back to morning shifts

Well, no meme for this entry. This time it's just me spilling my thoughts. Well, I mind as well start from the beginning. The day started off well. I was in surgery today running things as smoothly as possible. Things were going well. I had two new people to teach and it was great. There's just something satisfying about teaching the newbies. I did well and then it was time to check my messages. Client complaint, lovely. Very very lovely. This client decided to called every two hours on ky day off to tell whoever answered the phone how badly I treated her then afterwards promptly ask for a refund because of some typical reason. Yeah, very thrilling. Well, good news is I got to go home early since it was such a slow day. Yay.
I get home and notice that my mom wasn't home. Odd...I settle down at my desk and relax. My mom calls and tells me she's at the hospital with my aunt. Ok, probably something minor so I go on with my night. That is until after my shower when my mom calls. Yeah, it was bad. Basically, I offered to go and translate or attempt to, mom ask me to come. So I say good night to Cruger and jump in my car.
So here I am in Diagnostic Imaging. It's late, I got work tomorrow. I'm wondering what I'm doing here...I was wondering that as I was driving down. Hopefully, just a little longer...

Well, I finally finished my first day shift in what seems to be a long time. My god I need more of these day shift thingers. Though unfortunately work is going to get a hell of a lot tougher. So, after a month of pure night shifts, I am off nightshifts...for 3 shifts! YAY!!! NOT. So, my new schedule sucks ass. No weekends off and I get a lot of nights.
Night shifts have finally gotten to me to the point it was obvious. I snapped at a receptionist, and the vet noticed that I was off and basically had to remind me I was doing a good job. However, interruption #5 of my lunch break, and boy was I cranky and pissed off and basically, I think I wanted to kill something. They finally left me alone after that and things cooled down. I was thinking "Yay! Let's end this night decently" That was until the head vet called me to her office.
Basically, it was "Convince the vet to do a TNR" It was 10:45...No biggie...but I really did not want to do a surgery that night...I was tired, pissed off, itchy, and slightly sick. not to mention...I stayed 3 hours OT last rotation doing surgeries. Well, good news, the vet on duty had the same attitude as me. He was just starting off on nights and the poor guy was nervous. So, I continued on my merry little way. That was until 1am when the vet caught me in pharmacy. Looks like the head vet convinced him to do a TNR. We looked at each other as he was telling me this and we both winced. Best line of the night..."I don't want to do this either...please pick a male!"
So, i get everything set up. We catch the cat, we knock the cat out and we check the cat's back end...It was a male! VICTORY!! At that moment, it was like we had won the lottery. Males are faster than females by a long shot and now...I won't have to stay OT! So we do everything in record time and out the door I go!

So, it's been on long week for little ol' me. I had to handle the first shift of a new vet. Goodness he is one livewire. And one night I had to work 3 hours OT. I'm still hurting from that...Tonight, it was 4 surgeries lined up for me then after an hour OT it was time to run away!! Yeah, I'm definitely in rough shape. A few cuts from dogs and well, I was so tired tonight I nearly smashed into a road sign when I fell asleep behind the wheel for a brief moment. The jolt of climbing a curb woke me up thankfully. And I just fell down the stairs as I misjudge how many steps was in that flight...So, I think it's time for me to get some sleep then off to see Cruger for my days off.
