15 games to go in the regular season, folks! We're coming in on the home stretch, as things continue to get white hot! We've got Charleston at a massive 12 game winning streak though we're a week from New Orleans having their star player back and just in time too!

I have an announcement to make: I have two teams with the possibility of a third that are losing their GMs, which means I have slots for teams open. I need them filled before the January Expansion draft, but the sooner the better would be good so people can get a chance to get a feel for their players. If you're interested, please PM me.

The Admirals' fans were treated to a pitchers' duel today as two hard-bitten pitchers combined for a total of six hits and a single run. Only Stephen Sheehan's solo home run in the 7th for the home team kept the game from going into extra innings, as the Admirals held off the playoff-bound Pelicans from winning for the second night in a row, heating up the Eastern standings and giving opportunities for the Swamp Foxes and River Rats.
The Tikis have dug into their second-place standing in the Wester Division by winning five games in a row, including this week's sweep of the Sternwheelers. They are starting to look good going into the playoffs, as they took two of three from Portland in Nike Field. If they manage to hold out, things could get very interesting in the Western Division playoffs.
The Ravens have been going on a bit of a morale boost lately, sweeping the Meadowlarks out of their home stadium with a 7th inning that was one for the ages. The side managed to bat around two different Lark pitchers, racking up six hits and eight runs to put the game out of reach.
A slugout in the desert today as both teams combined for 35 hits. Only four players in the entire game went hitless, which sadly included powerhouse Claudia Orlov (TOU/1B/Tigon). The Foxes stuck in the game with their traditional grit, as all their offensive tools clicked including a rare three-hit game for Marcos Herrera (CHA/CF/Cheetah) who swiped his way to 42 bases. One of the standouts for the Titans was rookie Jin Xiang, given starting duties as Ricky Montecalvo (TOU/SS/Squirrel) has struggled hard on the plate. The Golden Pheasant raked three hits including his seventh home run of the year and picking two walks to make him perfect on the night.
The River Rats managed to grind six rns over the Pioneers' ace Graham Hollinger (PDX/SP/Fox), who seems to have had a case of noodle arm since his stint on the DL. But the Neers stuck with him, getting eight good innings out of the fox until he started stacking the bases in the ninth. Javier Martinez (PDX/RP/Heron) managed to keep the damage to a tie game and held out until Javier Salas (PDX/1B/Labrador Retriever) finally cracked Mike Forman (QCR/RP/Weasel), one of the Rats' craftiest relievers for the winning run.

The Admirals dug deep today with their ace Luca Snowe going seven innings with eight strikeouts and no earned runs while DH Kevin Nix (ERE/DH/Deer) went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI.
The Tikis ground out a long and hard-fought game against the Ravens, going deep into their bullpen after closer Jordan Salgardo (HAW/CL/Polecat) gave up five runs in the ninth to blow the save. The Tikis had help from their bats to keep in the game after the wild 9th, as the bases became loaded, with reliable reservist Moana Rivers (HAW/SS/Giant Otter) clearing the bases and keeping the home team in it in the ninth, and then driving in the winning run in the 13th inning as knuckleballer Franklin Heyward put the Tikis on his broad shoulders and kept the Ravens in fits for the rest of the game.
Omaha continued their recent tear, winning 10 out of their last 15 to come within one game of Hawaii, lead by their twin towers of Valencia Salzar and Edmond Harrison hitting for the Meadowlarks. Cristobal Duarte shook off the shelling he took last game and put in a gem, pitching a complete game with only a single earned run.
In the late game at Nike Field, the home crowd was disappointed, but they were still treated to an excellent pitchers' match as rookie Romero "Ourobouros" Castillo managed to hold his own against the Pioneers' dominant righty Ryand Mansfield. Castillo, who'd been just recently elevated to the Wheelers' starting rotation, lasted 8 innings with only 4 earned runs.

We're 52 games into the season, meaning there's only 28 to go. Just about a month of baseball remains till we have our exciting playoffs. Things are getting nice and busy as the lead in the Eastern Division seems to change daily.
Looking to the future, the FLB is proud to fill out it's 12th team, GMed by
steviemaxwell ! It will be another team deep in the heart of Ontario, bringing the FLB to two teams in Canada. That's as many as MLB and the Minors combined!
In other news, we may also be looking for two replacement GMs for our teams. I'll keep you posted, but if you are interested in GMing for the FLB or know someone who may be, watch this space!

Yesterday was a scheduled break. I could have continued with games but I decided that I should keep up with the schedule the program uses; plus it allowed me to get a few things done such as this week's stats and also to start on the latest project to make the GM's lives easier:

The ones shown are the examples for each team: some of you already have your links sent that allow you to edit your own card in your own area. How it will work: Set your batting order and positions for your batters and shift your rotation and specialty for the bullpen for the pitchers. I'm going to send out notes to each GM to verify that they've got their Gmail address. When you change your lineup card, please note me here at the FLB FA page. I will also check each list every week to double check the cards and align the lineups with the cards.
There's also a big reason for the notes I'm sending out. I've noticed that some GMs have all but shut down operations on their teams. I need to have active GMs that keep up with their teams. I have two GMs coming in with the expansion teams and no doubt several people in the wings that would like to take over a team, so if you cannot run your team I will have to reclaim the team. I don't like doing it, but I want the FLB to be vibrant with stories and art and GMs who contribute at least commentary on their teams.
I realize to some that this sounds like I want to copy the success of the FBA and FHL.... Yes, yes I do. I want the FLB to be just as vibrant as both of these leagues. I am trying to work hard to improve things, and I'm sorry that I haven't been as productive as I should, but I am willing to do what I can.

Something to consider, is that we've been considering expansion for a while. I have a GM lined up for a Winnipeg team but I'll need a 12th team. Also, I will be doublechecking with the current GMs to see if we will have any slots open. So if you're interested in joining the FLB, watch for a notice.
Also to consider, we will be having an expansion draft some time in the winter, after the end of the playoffs. It will work like the way the bigs do it; the two new teams will get crack at two players each from each team, putting 20 players into their rosters. The 10 teams will have a chance to protect 5 players each, so keep that in mind... More details as it comes up.

I'd like to take a bit of time out to congratulate the Los Angeles Dodgers for making the NLCS for the first time since 2009. Lets go Dodgers!
In our neck of the woods, we've got more thrilling action, as the Eastern Division race is tightening up more and more with New Orleans losing their first game since Luis Marquez going down. We'll all see how it's going, and keep an eye on the West race as well.

Maxine Crumpley was in rare form today, racking up eight scoreless innings with only three hits on the game. The Pelicans themselves racked up 12 hits on their own, showing that though Papi Gato was on the bench relegated to cheerleading, they wouldn't fall apart so far without his offense powering them.
Portland completed the sweep of their I-5 rivals, keeping Keith Veeck undefeated as the defense worked overtime, keeping the Ravens down.
The Swamp Foxes found themselves down 10-3 as they limped off the sixth inning, but Coach Howe took the time between innings to flip the script. Going to the bullpen for rookie Guelo Che'lubumo who had pitched only twice since the Foxes pulled him from free agency, the defending champions went to work. And work they did. It all came down to the ninth with the FLB's most dominant closer, Big Kitty Johnson, who had given up only one unearned run all season. Big Kitty was in good form to begin, striking out the first two runners, and then the wheels came off. Beginning with an error that the pitcher himself bobbled, Johnson walked three batters and gave up the game-winning triple to the spotty speedster Marcos Herrera (CHA/RF/Cheetah). The Foxes slammed the door with three more runs and then locked the last inning down with smart defensive moves.
The Meadowlarks had a strong game behind two shining stars of the team. Tanya Baskerville continues to show why she earned top honors last year, going five and a third scoreless innings. The other star of the game was Edmond Harrison (OMA/CF/Rhino) who went 2 for 3 with two RBI and a walk, raising his average to .411 to give the injured Luis Marquez a challenger for the batting crown as well as extending his hitting streak to 15.

Looks like the injury bug is starting to hit the players again, throwing interesting stories as each team affected has to go into their benches to replacements. It was another thrilling day of ball! The half-season leaders and stats should be up this weekend, though for Luis Marquez and his injury seeing all those FLB batting leads may be bittersweet indeed. Will Papi Gato reclaim his batting crown and take the FLB MVP award for the second year in a row, or will his injury open the door for powerhouses waiting in the wings such as Alejandro "A-Bomb" Coyotl (PDX/RF/Coyote), Edmond Harrison (OMA/CF/Rhino) and rookie sensation Quinn Einhorn (ERE/OF/Unicorn)? Time will tell.

The Pelicans' season is still going at a fair clip as they celebrated their third win in the last four games since the All-Star Break, but today brought grave news as star player Luis "Papi Gato" Marquez was drilled in the wrist in the 6th inning. The MRI came back positive after the end of the game confirming a fracture of his wrist. This will keep the FLB's leading batter in most offensive categories on the bench for at least the rest of the month. Only the fact that the Pelicans already have punched their ticket to the playoffs by winning the Eastern Division in the first half of the season kept the team optimistic that Papi Gato will return to form just in time to help the Birds in September, if not reclaim his batting titles.
The traditional Ravens-Pioneers rivalry has had its share of fireworks though it's been lopsided this year so far. Tonight's game was no different as the home Pioneers unleashed nine runs on seven hits in the first inning, knocking Kraft out with just 1/3 of an inning pitched. The Ravens were stymied the rest of the outing by Hollinger who pitched seven scoreless innings before finally surrendering 3 in the seventh.
The River Rats won in a thrilling fashion from behind on the Tikis' field, capped with a solo home run by Craig Jones, his first of the season. Boris Ritter took over for Wally Oaks (QCR/SP/Fox Squirrel) in the second after Oaks handed out five runs in 1 2/3 innings, locking the Tikis down to just a single earned run for the next six innings and showing his dominant brillaince that was a standout from his days languishing on the Key West Conchs rotation.
Despite three home runs, the Swamp Foxes took another hard hit, giving up eight runs in the first four innings to put themselves in a hole they couldn't get out of. The defending champions have lost the last three in a row and eight in the month of August alone, pushing them, for now, out of contention.
The Sternwheelers continue to take two steps back for every step forward, winning only 5 games in the month of August so far. The Wheelers find themselves in need of consistent starting pitching behind their ace Lord Pichupal (MAR/SP/Pika) though there is still a chance they could get above .500 and contend for that remaining playoff spot.
