FLB Games: 8/14 (10/2)
General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB Fans!
THe first half of the season has just wrapped up and our first half leaders have guaranteed their slots! Congratulations to the New Orleans Pelicans and the Portland Pioneers who are the 1st Half leaders. If they are still leaders of the division, the 2nd Place team will qualify, so don't think that you're out of it. There's still 40 games left and only 8 games separate the team with the worst record from that 2nd place spot and the playoffs.
So here we go!

FLB Games: WELCOME BACK! 8/13 (10/1)
General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB Fans!
After my month and a half hiatus, I feel rested and ready to continue the fight for good baseball! We still have 42 thrilling games left to play, which should take us into November with the playoffs. There are times I may pull doubleheaders in order to catch up, but at the very least we will not have a major interruption in the forseeable future. I have a new job coming up on the 18th, and I'll have a week off between the 12-17th that I will use to try and catch up stats and possibly run some of those aforementioned doubleheaders.
How its going to work: I will keep the dates as written. Today's games are August 13th, tomorrow's the 14th. If I do a double-header it will be two dates in a row, like when I had a few of thsoe weekends I had to catch up.
But for now, kick back and enjoy the thrilling chases. When we last left the league, it had just taken a break for the All-Star Game (I'll post the rosters up by the end of the season. Next year we'll do voting but this year I just wanted to focus on the games) with two games shy of the mid-season where we would find which teams claimed the first two playoff spots.
I thank you for your patience and hope you're still looking forward to FLB action!

FLB Update: HIATUS
General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB Fans!
I realize that I said things would resume on the 16th and that's looking like a bit of a problem. As many know, running the FLB stats and games is largely a one-person operation. Unfortunately I'm going through a severely busy time right now; my job makes me commute 45 minutes one way, I have to run at least an hour overtime to try and catch up with bills (some of which have been late several months), and I feel exhausted with the few hours I've got free.
Normally I can handle that and FLB but the problem is that I'm in the final month of a wedding plan and just am about to move into a new house. As such, I don't have time to devote to much of anything, even sleep.
So I'm going to have to do a tough decision. I know I've been taking breaks and hiatuses this whole year and I'm sorry that it's frustrating. I know it sapped the momentum of the first part of the year-
But I HAVE to do it. I need to take off time so I can get my affairs in order. As such, the FLB is on hiatus until October 1st. From there on I will run the second half of the season, get everything in order. Yes that means we won't have much of an offseason this year, and yes we will definitely be running into the other three furry league schedules.
But I really can't take time to even roll up and post games right now. and I don't want to damage the quality of the league. I am not going to give up on the FLB, I just merely need to prioritize.
Thanks for taking the time to hear me out.

FLB Games: 8/9
General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB Fans! We've had another two week period wrap up; tomorrow is the next break, bringing us two games shy of the halfway mark for the season. However, at this point there is a three day break scheduled, where the All-Star Game would be played, though I'm moving that to the end of the year's annoncements. Instead I'm going to take this time to catch my breath. With the wedding and time off I'm going to take a week to just recharge the batteries and get my affairs in order. The first game will be back on August 16th, but fear not. I will still roll the scheduled games for the 13th-15th, and post them all up on the 16th to get caught up. See you then fans!

The Tikis pulled off another strong showing from their pitchers, with Connor Jackson holding the Titans to a single home run in the top of the ninth by rookie Jin Xiang. Meanwhile the Tikis piled on, notably with a 7-run 6th inning, capped by Jim Cummings cracking a grand slam for his only hit of the night.
Valencia Salazar had another good game for the Meadowlarks, the only highlight in a game that saw five home runs by the home team Admirals. It was the first time all season that two different teammates compiled two home runs each. Quinn Einhorn added to his bid for Rookie of the Year status, padding his two solo shots with three walks.
The Fiver Rats are making their bid to regain first place, with the Terminator Raymond Hill holding back a push in the ninth to win the game.
The Swamp Foxes roared back with heavy offense, backing up Jane Howard's strong showing on the mound- 6 strikeouts in eight innings. Santiago Davila led the charge, going 3 for 5 with two home runs and four RBI, just one home run under the home run lead.
The Pioneers won the rubber game, as Graham Hollinger logged 8 strikeouts in a complete game.

Greetings FLB Fans! I realize that the injuries seem a bit high lately almost one a day. I think part of the issue is due to the late start of the season I had to compact it down and the players are getting a bit tired due to the speed of the season. Next year I will give the season more time and hopefully it will cut down on the number of injuries.

Ryan Mansfield (PDX/SP/Lynx) 9 days, tender elbow
The Pioneers had a scare on the mound as a line drive caromed right off the elbow of starting pitcher Ryan Mansfield (PDX/SP/Lynx) in the 5th inning. The Lynx was taken off holding his arm and snarling in pain. Even with some flashes of offensive luck from the Pionners, a cloud seemed to hang over the Western Division leaders and affected Derek Millr, the Pioneers' embattled closer who landed himself in hot water early and gave up three runs to the Pelicans.
The Meadowlarks brought the Admirals under their defensive heel today, as Cristobal Duarte held Erie to just three hits, leaning completely on his infield as he logged only a single strikeout. Valencia Salazar (OMA/1B/Spectacle Bear) provided a large part of the fireworks as Edmond Harrison (OMA/CF/Rhino) took the night off. Valencia went 2 for 4 with a walk and 4 RBIs.
It was a real barn-burner for Marcos Herrera as the cheetah went 3 for 5 with an RBI and three stolen bases. Marcos seems to be making up clearly for his slow start to the season, already with 27 swipes on the year.

HR: A. Davis (PDX/DH/Hedgehog; 7), H. Featherwind (PDX/SS/Jackrabbit; 11)The Pioneers had a scare on the mound as a line drive caromed right off the elbow of starting pitcher Ryan Mansfield (PDX/SP/Lynx) in the 5th inning.

Valencia Salazar (OMA/1B/Spectacle Bear) provided a large part of the fireworks as Edmond Harrison (OMA/CF/Rhino) took the night off. Valencia went 2 for 4 with a walk and 4 RBIs.

William Kitspatrick (QCR/2B/Grey Fox) suffered a severe accident on the basepaths early on in today's games, slamming face-first into first base and shattering his cheekbone and knocking him out for a couple of months. This did not seem to faze the River Rats who rallied around their fallen teammate to win.

The Meadowlarks found themselves back at the .500 mark for the first time since July 23rd, riding a 6 game winning streak off the arm of their strong pitching staff. Though they only compiled four strikeouts all game the staff combined for just a single earned run.

The Tikis are trying to regain their form from last year that saw them compile the best record in the Western Division, laying a strong game on Darlene Ford, who threw 9 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
Charleston Swamp Foxes (19-17) 2 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 4 8 0

The Ravens broke their 8-game losing streak for their first win in August, breaking the Swamp Foxes' hearts who have found themselves in a slump of their own. Marcos Herrers (CHA/RF/Cheetah) managed to swipe his league-leading 24th base, giving the frustrating game a little bit of a silver lining.

A-Bomb padded to his lead in the home-run race today with two bombs that pleased the cheering Pioneers fans in the first game of the series between the two division leaders. Keith Veeck padded his own numbers, gaining 11 strikeouts in only 5 2/3 innings. But it was sophomore Ani Coyoc Diaz who had the game of the night, going 4 for 5 with three RBI on a rare start for the Mexican Hairless.

General | Posted 12 years agoThis week's stats have been finished and starting this week I have the league leaders for most categories listed in bold on the stats. So far it looks like Luis Marquez (NLP/LF/Cougar) is running away in many of the categories so far, though there is still a half season yet to play.
You'll also notice that in the Logs and Box Scores there will now be a leader page included! I've been able to get more stat power out of the engine so you can see how it's going for the stats races.

General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB Fans! Hope you're enjoying your summer. It looks like the races are heating up again- as the Pelicans have passed the Foxes for the Eastern Division lead... Can they hold onto it until the end of the first half and guarantee their spot in the playoffs? With 8 games to go until the first half ends, it's a claw-biting spectacle.

General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB fans! In today's news, the suspensions mentioned yesterday were accepted by the FLBPA and the players' agents. Many of the players felt that it would not hurt their teams' chances if taken early. In other news, the FLB announced that due to the change of the start of the season and the compacted schedule, the All-Star Game will be suspended this year. There will be a team announced at the end of the season, and the ASG will be held next year as scheduled.

General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB Fans! I realize I've been lax lately with some things, though largely it's cause life is starting to get a bit choppy. I've got a wedding in mid September and my fiancee and I are looking for a new place to live so it's eating into my free time both post work and days off. Things will clear up but there are going to be days that I can't get a lot of work done on FLB stuff which is why I've been just managing to get games out, but no capsules. But I promise that I'm not going to give up on the project!
With that in mind, here are today's games, and I've got the new stats posted, though this week I'm skipping entering the stats in by hand, so the files will have to be it for now, sorry. I'll try to make up for it.

Injuries
Martin Bane (HAW/RF/Gryphon) out 11 days, torn knee meniscus
Bobby Abbot (QCR/3B/Ermine) 11 months, torn abdominal muscle
George Cameron (CHA/C/Alligator) 6 Weeks-Fractured ulna
Maria Francisco (TOU/SP/Ocelot) 7 Days- Weakened Arm
Rory Brown (WAS/C/Squirrel) 7 days- bronchitis.
Starting long reliever Cecil Lloyd, the Pioneers were unable to back him up offensively as he was shelled for three runs in the second inning with a pair of doubles. The Sternwheelers were able to build on their strong momentum, winning six of their last seven games.
A trhilling pitcher's duel that went into the 12th inning wowed fans, as the two pitching staffs combined for 20 strikeouts today. Right in the third inning as the pressure was building, the bases loaded up for the Ravens, and Stella Grant (WAS/2B/Ewe) hit a stinging infield hit to score the winning run to the cheers of the home crowd.
The Titans were about to smack around the Admirals' pitching staff as Lynn Wells did not escape the fifth inning. Jorge Martinez was the player of the game, hitting his first home run of the year and going 3 for 4 with three RBI.
Raymond "Terminator" Hill picked up his third save of the year with a 1-2-3 inning to seal the River Rats' come from behind win, facilitated by close coaching with two sacrifice bunts that brought the players into scoring postion for Olaf Jackson (QCR/1B/Grizzly Bear) to hit both home for the winning runs.
While the Swamp Foxes await the decision on last night's brawl, they travelled to Erie for a new series, winning it in thrilling fashion with a come-from behind ninth inning that sealed the win, thanks to a grand slam by Meredith Wynne, her second home run of the year. In other news, Marcos Herrera (CHA/CF/Cheetah) picked up his seventeenth and eighteenth stolen bases, putting him on pace to equal last year's record.

I'll admit that the engine does weird things from time to time. Today came in the form of Lord Pichupal's injury suddenly turning into a torn meniscus and healing completely; instead of re-rolling the last few days and flipping out I decided it would just be easier to change the injury. This is why we save every day...

R. Ryian continued his strong presence on the mound, throwing eight scorless innings and ten strikes to bring his scoreless innings streak to 16. Every starting Tiki had a hit in the game, though for the Meadowlarks a glimmer of happiness came in the form of Edmond Harrison going 2 for 4.
When it was announced that Lord Pichupal had a ruptured tricep tendon, many Sternwheelers fans felt that it was the end of the season. But as the pika entered an expirmental treatment, it was seen that the tendon was doing better than it had been originally diagnosed, and four weeks later, he was back on the mound, throwing heat. Lew "Crankbait" Zebco (MAR/Manager/Otter) was wisely conservative with the tender arm of his pitcher, pulling Pichupal in the sixth, but the solid first inning was enough to gain the pitcher his second win of the season.
The contentious atmosphere of the series boiled out into a brawl in the ninth inning, as for retaliation of Benito Rodriguez's celebration of his home run in the sixth inning and frustration of Harriet Featherwind's grand slam, Eileen Massey (CHA/RP/Lion) zinged two balls right at the ferret's head. THere were heated words shared and right when a third went nearly to his chin, Rodriguez went to the mound in a bench-clearing brawl that lasted for ten minutes. It marred an otherwise power-packed day for the Pioneers who swept the rival Swamp Foxes, leaving many to wonder if suspensions are going to be handed down.
Mathias Vers had a very rough first outing, newly activated from Free Agency to replace Xavier Freitas (NLP/RP/Jackal) in the rotation. The new pitcher was shelled hard in the entire three innings of his outing, passing out 8 hits and 7 runs.

The new way of getting stats delivered seems to be doing well both with speed of getting them into the system and also providing a good backup in case I don't have them typed up in time. Next week I'm going to put the current leaders in most categories up in the GooDoc page but I hope you're all having a fun time. Let me know if you need anything, and PLEASE feel free to have some fun, produce some IC press releases, write your own recaps, have some fun!

Injuries
Martin Bane (HAW/RF/Gryphon) out 11 days, torn knee meniscus
Lord Pichupal (MAR/SP/Pika) Out 11-12 Months, Ruptured tricep Tendon.
Bobby Abbot (QCR/3B/Ermine) 11 months, torn abdominal muscle
George Cameron (CHA/C/Alligator) 6 Weeks-Fractured ulna
Maria Francisco (TOU/SP/Ocelot) 8 Days- Weakened Arm
Rory Brown (WAS/C/Squirrel) 8 days- bronchitis.
The Sternwheelers would usually go into a tailspin after a drubbing like last night but not so, flexing their muscles and doing some drubbing of their own. Alanis MacKinven was the player of the game, going two for four with a walk and three RBI including a solo home run in the 3rd inning. The win allowed struggling pitcher Dave Zimmerman to pick up his second win on the year and shave half a run off of his ERA.
It was quite a day for offense at the Big Punchbowl with five home runs hit today. But one exception is Edmond Harrison (OMA/CF/Rhino) who scored a bagel in five at bats today. Today's slump saw the rhino sink below .400 for the first time in most of the season and hitless in his last two games. This adds a new wrinkle for the race to the Triple Crown, as Harrison was leading most notable categories. This sets up a rivalry with last year's MVP Luis "Papi Gato" Marquez (NLP/OF/Cougar) and is sure to be an exciting race.
Washington is showing signs of shaking off their losing streak already with a powerful 5th and 7th inning, sealing away the Titans, though the Titans did have good showing from Claudia Orlov, the Russian sensation who exploded onto the scene last year as the Rookie of the Year and picked up in the dispersal draft. She went 3 for 5 today with a 3-run blast in the fourth inning.
Another contentious day in Charleston between the two rivals as the Swamp Foxes fell further from first place with today's loss. Jane Howard, among the aces of the league was rattled for 10 hits and four runs today, one of her worst outings of the season. In contrast, Graham Hollinger gave up only a single unearned run on two hits in a complete game. Howard was able to keep A-Bomb inside the part today however, cooling the coyote's heels with only a single hit on the day.
Speaking of Papi Gato, Marquez hit a solo home run in the 4th today, bringing his total to 10 for the year and already up to 26 RBI on a 2 for 3 day as the Pelicans stomped on the River Rats in a four-run fifth inning to cement their lead in the Eastern Division; quickly shaking off the ghosts of their move from Quebec.

Meyers (QCR/RF/Calico Cat; 8)Speaking of Papi Gato, Marquez hit a solo home run in the 4th today, bringing his total to 10 for the year and already up to 26 RBI on a 2 for 3 day as the Pelicans stomped on the River Rats in a four-run fifth inning to cement their lead in the Eastern Division; quickly shaking off the ghosts of their move from Quebec.
FLB Games: 7/22
General | Posted 12 years agoGreetings FLB Fans! We're over 1/4 of the way through the season, 21 out of 80 games have been played and we're still tight in the pennant races.
Stats are going to get updated on Mondays now, reflecting the stats current up to that last Sunday. For instance, the ones posted now are up to the 21st; they may say July 22 on them, but that's because I made the stats before doing any games today. I'm going to try to get the stat forms on Google Drive finished tomorrow, I might actually be able to highlight the league leaders by then.

Injuries
Martin Bane (HAW/RF/Gryphon) out 11 days, torn knee meniscus
Lord Pichupal (MAR/SP/Pika) Out 11-12 Months, Ruptured tricep Tendon.
Bobby Abbot (QCR/3B/Ermine) 11 months, torn abdominal muscle
George Cameron (CHA/C/Alligator) 6 Weeks-Fractured ulna
Maria Francisco (TOU/SP/Ocelot) 9 Days- Weakened Arm
Though the River Rats tried to come back with a two-run hone run from sophomore Nara Chandiramani in the 8th, the Pelicans' pitching staff was able to buckle down, with closer Guilliermo Herrera locking down the final inning, gaining his sixth save. The win pushes the Pelicans into first place in the Eastern Division for the first time all season.
The Tikis finally gave Kojuro Amano his first win of the season, sealed by a solo home run from John Cummings. Kojuro had a strong day on the mound, going eight innings including managing a feat many pitchers are struggling with, giving Edmond Harrison (OMA/CF/Rhino) a 0 for 3 day including a strikeout.
A congratulations goes to Steve Leonard (WAS/DH/Beagle) of the Washington Ravens, who broke the Iron Fur record today for consecutive games played set by Eric Handerson (3B/Rhino) of the Saratoga Mustangs in 1956. The stage was set this year for Domingo Encarnacion (C/Spider Monkey) of the Pioneers, but his age got the best of him, and he sat out just prior to breaking the record, yielding to Leonard. The home crowd had been counting down the days with banners and handmade signs. After the 3rd inning with Leonard's first at-bat in the books, a special ceremony was held. He was then rewarded by a 7 run 7th inning that pushed the Ravens over the top for a win that broke the Ravens out of their recent losing streak.
Kenny Johnson was literally the entire offense for the Swamp Foxes today, scoring both runs with solo home runs off of starting pitcher Ryan Mansfield. The raccoon was boisterous in celebrating his second dinger, giving signal from his eyes to the pitcher with two fingers like he had the Lynx's number. He was answered in the 6th inning with several pitches that got closer and closer to zinging towards his head. This looks to be setting up more bad blood between the Pioneers and the Swamp Foxes that had already been arising from the rivalry the two franchises already have due to their often meeting in the Wild World Series.
The Admirals dashed the Sternwheelers' three-game winning streak in a serious fashion in the second inning alone, as Jarrod Hansen gave up seven runs before being yanked, only for Bubba Sidwell (MAR/RP/Alligator) to give up a two-run home run to seal the inning. The offense bolstered Luca Snowe's good day on the mound, striking out 9 on just a single run in the third.

At Hormel Field, the River Rats pulled through again, as struggling pitcher Tim o'Roarke gave away the winning run to Jerry Twarog, new pickup from the minors activated today who blasted a two-run homer over left field, bringing in the other new pickup, Craig Jones (QCR/CF/Fox) who had a pinch-hit single.
It was a tight pitchers' duel as both starting pitcers racked up eight strikeouts to their credit. It turned mostly into an exhibition of quality pitching and fielding, with the tie broken in the 6th by the game-winning double by Luis "Papi Gato" Marquez (NLP/LF/Cougar) who drove in his 24th RBI.
It was largely the A-Bomb show tonight as Alejandro Coyotl went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a solo jack to keep leading the team in offense and trying to close in on the league leads in home runs and RBIs.
The Sternwheelers managed to patch together a sweep of the Ravens to the delight of the fans, taking the three-game series with solid offense led by Ian Gecko who came in during the 7th to hit a grand slam home run, staying in to collect another hit in the next inning.

General | Posted 12 years agoThanks for holding in with me, fans. I was able to get the three days of games rolled up, posted, and saved to catch up. Sorry there's little in the ways of capsules, but if GMs could help out in the future to write capsules for their games, I'd be appreciative. I can't always get the games out early enough but feel free to leave your writeup from the perspective of your local paper as a comment.

The Pelicans' winning streak was snapped by a whimper from the bats as the Tikis' R. Ryian held court once again in a dominant fashion, striking out 8 in 8 scorless innings. Xavier Frietas seems to have struggled in his starts, with his ERA ballooning to 11.64 and having the sour distinction of being the only Pelican starter with a losing record and still yet to score his first win.
The Admirals accomplished a very rare feat this season, becoming the first team to hold the Pioneers scorelss. Rookie Quinn Einhorn (ERE/CF/Unicorn) continued his dominant ways on the field, going 3 for 5 and increasing his batting average to .414.
Despite his shaky pitching in previous games, Tom O'Roarke pulled out a 1-2-3 ninth inning to cap the solid pitchers' duel. Even in the loss, Trey LaRocca and Wally Oaks (QCR/P/Fox Squirrel) combined for 11 strikeouts and the single run.
Marietta squeaked out a win in today's game, only the second time all season they'd won two in a row, and clinched their first series win all season. Randy Hill came in with the bases in serious position and gave up a 2 run home run to Alanis MacKinven, giving the home crowd something to cheer about in an otherwise groaner of a season. Meanwhile the Ravens have tumbled into the Western Division cellar, in the throes of a 4 game losing streak.
