A call for great discovery!
General | Posted 9 years agoWhile physicists are searching for the 'theory of everything' from their calculators, a theory that might open the secrets of the universe, the regular Joe keeps running into their own bizarre observations of the world; strange repeating natural laws in everyday life.
Bread, butter and cutlets never run out at the same time. A tea bag will always float on tea water if the bag was there first. If a tall person and a chandelier are in the same room, that person will inevitably hit his head on the chandelier. These phenomenon add up as we start recalling.
I suggest a large scale survey of people's experiences on similar phenomenon. There must be strange mechanics at work. We must go deeper! =T *shakes fist
Also I'm really tired so... you can choose to pay no attention to my rambling -u-

Update stuff & Halloween
General | Posted 11 years agoWelp. Time for the annual journal. Like literally, the last update was halloween =D
Anyway, lo~t's of stuff's happened. Two years ago I moved to a pretty small town and took a year long course in game programming. Various stuff, C++, C#, java etc. All kinds of things! At the start of 2014 I moved again to a nearby bigger city in the hopes of finding some work.
Unity has proven itself a very nice tool for quickly setting up projects and works great for both 3D and (lately)2D stuff. That's why I've been messing around with it for the past year on my own =P Hopefully something comes out of it that I can share with you guys.
I sincerely recommend Unity for anyone interested in game development because I think the quick results have potential to further motivate in studying programming in general. Don't care about the bias towards the software because of endless Slender man copies, it's just a tool and you decide what to make with it =P
My big thanks to all new watchers! I know I haven't been very active lately, but I try to hang around and submit stuff every now and then =j
Hope you all have a happy Halloween guys!

Way too nocturnal
General | Posted 12 years agoWellllll sh*t. I think I missed the -weenies =F Though that shouldn't stop me from drawing something horrible and disfigured later.
Keeping the theme, I have a horrible habit of sleeping late and missing the alarm. Or, shouldn't technically say "missing", as apparently my stupid brain thinks it's a good idea to shut the alarm without waking me up. I've no recollection of ever touching the damn thing =j
First thought of the "morning": GAME OVER x n x
Eh, just something that's been bothering me. Excuse me as I run like bat out of hell on my business *flees

ASSUMING CONTROL
General | Posted 13 years ago... of the comic, again.
During the past two months (...*gringe) we've left behind a rollercoaster of various distractions.
In case you're interested, I've moved to a new apartment, been looking for some work around here (close but no cigar), done some on and off studies, and *tada* done some game programming :p Yay, being usefull! Infact, right after finishing Outcomes pg5, I took on an idea I've had for some time and managed to create a simple 2D engine using SDL, which I then wrote into using XNA libraries (DirectX). If I actually manage to finish something worth playing, I might share it here :)
Have any of you guys had experience in game programming?
Anyway, my sincerest apologies to anyone who might have been eagerly waiting for the next pages :F I'll get right on em' :)
Also, I have a submission box to go through x_x You people and your steady pace :p

The future & Icon request aftermath
General | Posted 14 years agoHiya! A small status update.
The icon request thing went really swell :) Thanks to everyone who took interest in what little I could offer. A new bunch will be available in time. I'll be making a new journal bout' it when I'm ready :)
Will be resuming the Outcomes-comic as the next main thing. Finally getting over a devious writers block/lack of motivation that's taken some...yeah *cough...a good half a year. Dammit.
The thing is, I don't think I'm a very good/clever story teller. I tend to focus more on the feel, settings, events and conflicts rather than trying to make some idea/point across (which I prefer), and when I try, I fail at subtleties or some parts turn out kinda clumsy and silly (which ofcourse puts me off) :p I mean look at that last sentence, talk about subordinate clauses >_>
In short, the story's starting to take shape and define it's point, things can again progress. The base idea is there. We'll see just how hammy it turns out und laaf pointing our fingers at it :D
In another, belated, news: finally graduated into a blossoming electric, atomic, supersonic engineer, ready to take on a wave of dispencer related spam. Yay.

Icons of the pixel kind - 7 slots
General | Posted 14 years agoHiya guys and gals
I'm trying to hone my spriting skills so I'm making these chibi-type pixel icons for free, if you people are interested :) There are currently 7 open slots. I may make another set in the future if there's demand. Not sure how these thigs are usually set up, so hopefully the following is unambiquous.
The avatars I'm making are non-animated, clean, short/chibi cutesy types like these:
A single character per slot/person ofcourse.
If you want your own, reserve below and send a PM/note providing the following:
- Some kind of reference pic of your character
- Short description of desired physique and gender
- Info on getup(if your character has any :P)
Update will follow once the slots are full :p

Random gaming related tomfoolery
General | Posted 14 years agoAfter a lot of thinking, I've come to the conclusion that minecraft needs ice skates :l
I mean, there's so much free, flat surface area on ice in snow biomes that you might as well make use of it. Maybe they could work like the boat and give you a boosty experience without you getting hungry, or just have a fun control mechanic.
Racing with and bumping into people sending them tumbling would be cool too :D Anyway, just a thought. Had to get rid of the previous journal, which was, tbh, getting kinda outdated :F
On an ending note, here's a little video I made way back in alpha v1.2, after biomes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYmQLDe17WE

Solutions for a small planet
General | Posted 15 years agoDerpMode(ON);
Eh, whoever thought rain was a good idea
Like, how many times have your carpets been soaked again when they were just dry enough to bring in. Or, you notice it's getting pretty late and you could fancy something dandy from the store before it closes. You make a step outside and WHOOP there's your rain! Would you consider yourself happy when you finally collapse on your household pottery in a mess of sweat and water, clutching that tiny bag of walnuts.
Perhaps you're happily hauling your new console home with a bike, when rain, in it's willingness, decides to give you a hand. You see son, rain has the ALLMIGHTY power of slapping you silly and transforming your face from 8) to 8C
Now of course you could just humbly crawl under some cover or perhaps pull out your nifty umbrella capable of folding into singularity. That leaves you either with a thing of which main function is to break apart or wishing really really hard it doesn't start blowing sideways.
I say, stand up to this arrogant and selfish force of nature! We don't need to put up with this
Solution? Well...this'll take some effort but it'll be worth it. We need to dig a deep hole on land, a really really really really really really deep hole. But once that's done we simply replace all the ocean water with mercury :T Being lighter, water will pour into the hole which we'll permanently seal after the job is done
Problem solved. No more rain (mercury boils at some 300 degrees) No more wet carpets or clothes 8F ...if you DO get soaked stuff drains faaast, you get my point, get your showels, PROCEED!
...this simply can't fail

Been working with arts --> some obstacle appears --> think of something else to pass time --> rinse and repeat, the classic. SHOULD have something new and ammaazing up soon.
Also, finally moved in my own flat, happy days. Can't seem to put that extra space to good use though, too used to cramming all the stuff around my work desk.
Anyway, I wish happy holidays for everyone :]

Zelda physics butchering
General | Posted 16 years agoSomething scribbled in school for the funz:
Ever noticed how the stones that octorok monsters spit in Legend of Zelda games fly right ofscreen if uninterrupted. They could propably go on and on and on without falling to the ground. How is that possible? S:l Uh...maybe their speed is just right so they stay in orbit around the earth o_o How would that feel behind the shield when Link carefreely blocks the stone?
Judging from the sprites of the first game I'd say the rock is about 1 meter in diameter (when compared to Link who is supposed to be a kid) and it's flying distance from ground maybe a meter too 8l That would hit the rascal right in the schnozzle.
Since there is no way of knowing what stuff the stones are (they COULD be styrofoam) I'd pick something basic with a little more murder mass, like granite. So some number crunching...
--
Stone:
Radius r = 0.5m
Density of granite p = 2.75 g/cm3 = 2750 kg/m3
Volume V = (4*pi*r^3)/3 = 0.5235m3
Mass m = V*p = 1439.9 kg
So the mass of the stone equals 1439.9kg
--
Now we need to figure out how fast the stone would need to travel in order to stay in earth's orbit:
Speed v = sqrt((G*M)/r)
Gravitational constant G = 6.6726*10^-11 Nm2kg-2
Combined mass M = earth's mass + stone's mass = 5.972*10^24 kg + m = pretty much 5.972*10^24 kg
Orbit radius r = earth's mean radius + stone's distance from ground = 6371000m + 1m = 6371001m
So then speed v = sqrt((6.6726*10^-11Nm2kg-2 * 5.972*10^24kg) / 6371001m) = 7908.7m/s
which is about 28476 km/h
--
Since the stones fly at an even speed in the game we can forget about air friction and call them MAGICALLY AERODYNAMIC.
So then what's the impact energy?
The stones stop dead when they hit Link's shield (ok they recochet a little but not a significant amount) so the released kinetic energy should be E = 0.5*m*v^2 = 4.5*10^10 Joules
That's about 9.8 TONS of TNT and would blow a crater ROUGHLY 8 meters in diameter and 2 meters in depth. Four times more kick than the 5000lb boom here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8FLGuH9lpY (assuming it's TNT :l)
Try to block that with a handheld shield and stand still. I say you get your ass handed to you o_o

General | Posted 16 years agoHullo! Looks like I kinda missed the thousand mark again, by over a hundred views -_- Still, HUGE THANKS to everyone watching! I'm really glad of the reception I've met here so far :D

I had a pretty long absence a while ago, this was because I was busy babysitting my brother's 2-year old kid as well as helping with renovations. I was pretty tired every evening and weren't able to get to the internets for atleast two weeks. This change of life also alienated me from web-communities for a while. Now, I'm going to open up a little here so bear with me, I have a need to vent :j
It's strange. You'd think you need less effort playing with a kid as he grows older, but not really. That's when you need to start using more imagination :D
Because my nephew is now able to follow me almost everywhere there wasn't really any time I could spend alone, and this wore me down. Then the imagination effort... You can't really go with everything the kid decides to do and not think of something to do together yourself. Most of the time I found myself just repeating stuff like: good, yeah!, oh shucks, uhhuh. While that's easier it's not creating anything special between you and the kid :l This makes me feel a little guilty, am I being too selfish, should I be giving more to others? I felt like I was a totally different person those two weeks, like a doll because of the way I took things :/
But I don't want to avoid my nephew, especially with me being his godfather. There are close times that really repay you. You teach the kid something new that he later repeats, he does something totally sympathetic or says you're his friend. Just watching the kid grow and learn new things is sweet :) I guess I should just relax a bit more and be proud of my responsibility :j
That being said I tip my hat to every parent out there, that's some serious commitment :D Though I think it'll be a WHILE before I'm ready for that myself >_>
Phew. So anyway, a nerd's ultimate trial. My respects if you were able to read through all that sorry ass venting.
--
Now onto some future content:
I'm working on a sort of prologue or test comic about Charis's adventures (isn't placed as the first mission in chronological order), prolly 10-20 pages long. The script for the first part is actually finished but needs a little tweaking, and being the only one reading it through I'm of course blind to my own errors >_< So for anyone anxious out there, be patient. Anyway, I've also been working on a main plot and the structure of my world, which is slowly taking form :o I don't wanna end with something silly if I rush things, this being my first more serious story.
Now I'd like to ask you if you'd like some looping ambience/bg-music in the comics, like in the reference sheet submission (I can manage a mute button too). I've thought about doing this flippityflappety browser for the comics in flash so that one whole episode will be an independent submission. So what do you think? A more traditional silence filled with the sounds of YOUR imagination or the soundscape of my choosing? :]
Also in the works is a new short flash skit, which will propably be uploaded next.
Fleece out.
