Update and Anthrocon
Posted 10 years agoSo you may have noticed I kind of fell out of use here on FA. There's a few reasons for that- the drama was getting annoying, life and working for the man picked up, I got swallowed whole by tumblr and addicted to Trove, I started helping 
blitzava with the dragons game upkeep, and I've also been trying to consolidate all of my Pipey Friends business into just a few places. That last one is the most important.
I've grabbed
pipeyfriends just in case I do want to do something with it, but I don't really see that happening. Most of the action these days is over at pipeyfriends.com and etsy.com/shop/pipeyfriends with relatively few exceptions. If you're looking for more personal thoughts and updates, you'll want to look at floppybelly.tumblr.com for stuff like that.
Now, that being said, I am in a bit of a financial pickle. I've just come back from a birthright trip to Israel, which is a whole other story, and in order to do both that and Anthrocon, I had to take a leave of absence from work. Which is about a total of 5 weeks straight. In the meantime I did have a birthday yesterday (turned 25) which has helped a little. I am doing as much boosting and organizing and polishing and advertising as I possibly can. I have a studio now to work from, so I've got plenty of space to start cranking out work. I want to work on your commissions! I NEED the purchases, guys. Seriously.
If I can tide over to Anthrocon, then you'll find me at table B18 in the Dealer's Den. You'll also get a chance to see some larger pieces in the Art Show, where I've reserved some space. Some of you may have seen some of these pieces, but I'm hoping there will be something new there for everyone. And of course, I'm also hoping they get some bids. In the meantime, I'm going to make like
agentelrond and stay glued to my table at all times to try and rake in the customers. So you won't see much of me around the con during business hours. I'm hoping I can make it to all the performances, and especially the 
hali room party that will be taking place where I sleep, but nothing is guaranteed at this point. Business is my first priority, since what I've learned from the past five years of dealing is that my stuff always sells better in person than it does online. I don't know if that's a photography issue or what, but... that's besides the point.
My cons have been kind of slow the past few years, guys. I can't let that happen again, not at my biggest show of the year. Can you help me pump it up to be the biggest and best Anthrocon I've ever had? Definitely! Just bring yourself and all your friends to my table and have them all buy something. Then I'll be the happiest mewtwo in the world :3
As a reminder, you can get a pipey of yourself/your sona in sizes small through giant. I also encourage you getting pipeys of all your friends' sonas to surprise them. You can have me trace a badge into a faux stained-glass window cling (also great for the backs of mobile devices). You can even have me knit something for you- and I've gotten a lot better at knitting, by the way! Not just scarves anymore! I've also started dabbling into the world of tabletop miniatures (mostly of pokemon so far BIG SURPRISE THERE), using Green Stuff and Army Painter. You can see some examples of that on my etsy, but if you want a miniature custom made you've gotta order it now because I will NOT be doing those on site. They take too long.
Am I forgetting anything? Probably. If you see any blatant holes in the information, just ask. But keep in mind that I'm not on FA much anymore these days, so it's probably best to ask it on twitter pipeyfriends or by email to pipeyfriends[at]gmail.com

FA:U plans- rideshare and hotel share?

I went a couple years back and had a pretty good time, and there are a lot of folks there that I'd like to hang out with again. It's about an 8 hour drive for me from Columbus, Ohio, so I would absolutely love it if I could snag a carpooler on the way to help split gas. And of course, I will need a room to stay in. I can't seem to find any sort of forum or anything for the con itself, so here I am trying in a journal.

Makin' Pipeys (I'll do this one!)
3D to 2D: the magic of perspective and foreshortening
All about mediums, strengths and weaknesses of various materials
Color theory 101- How to make a pleasing color palette and more
Advanced lighting techniques, how to set them up in person and/or how to imitate them with colors
What's that Style? A look at furry art drawn in traditional styles like minimalism, cubism, impressionism, etc
Basics of cartooning- character creation and exaggeration, or more
Playing with Patterns- a look at how to turn a pattern into a plushie, puppet or clothing, and how to make your own sewing pattern
Iron Artist- competitors with a mystery medium (I'll do this one unless someone else really wants to)
Designing a good tattoo- the dos and don'ts of permanent ink (Fossil would be ideal for this, but if you have some expertise there too speak up!)
Illustration and composition: How to make an appealing visual scene
Comparative Anatomy- how do those funky bird wings work, anyway? How do you make a dog stand on two legs? What the fuck even are bugs?!?
Dragon-crazy! There is a lot to learn about something that is supposed to be fictional- can you tell the difference between a wyvern and a wyrm? Do all dragons have scales? What makes a dragon a dragon?
Artist trading cards- little quickie art trades for funsies, bring your drawing supplies!
Finger painting: Let's all get messy and make something together for fun.
Face painting: gather up a few face-painting artists and let people get in line to have a temporary mask- good for trading tips of the trade!
Understanding Comics: what makes a comic? What makes a GOOD comic? Does it have to be funny or clever or pretty? Talk about your favorite comics and why.
Fun with Body Types: Making your characters diverse in more than one way!
Culinary arts: Recipe swap; imagining dishes for bird people or lion people or rabbit people
Musical arts: bring your acoustic instruments for a little jam time!
Textile arts: bring your knitting/crocheting/sewing/cross-stitch/latch hook/quilt for a little stitch-and-bitch, or to learn new techniques from fellow stitchers!
Literary arts- that's the writing track! Talk to Heavy Horse about that. magic.by.alan[at]gmail.com

I owe "Aidan CAL" a 4-dollar pipey of his choosing (from winning the raffle at FWA 2012), but I don't know how to get ahold of him!
I owe a raffle prize of a terrier to the second winner of the raffle from MFF... I forget their name. If you wanted a Westie terrier, let me know!
I had a raffle winner at Anthrocon who wanted a rainbow dash window cling? Who was that? I have one ready now...
dasharhosenwyn forgot to take her scarf home with her at MFF 2013, so I have to mail that out to her.

Get back into writing oneword prompts (Maybe eventually compile them into a cohesive story)
Things I gotta do for school:
Nothing! I graduated! :D
Plus 20-35 hours a week at Kroger! Fun times.
So... needless to say, my commission queue is looking pretty darn empty right about now. If you ever wanted a pipey, now is the time to do it! I'm planning on a bunch of conventions this year, so I can bring your pipeys to you in person there too. So far on the schedule, we have:

Morphicon (in Columbus OH), May 1-4
Anthrocon (in Pittsburgh), July 2-7 (That's how long I'm staying, anyway. Need a room?)

I don't know how many of you know this, but I lost my job back in June. I've been living off my savings ever since, and they're dwindling down, and the job search isn't going so great. I'm almost graduated from school, which will leave me with a lot of free time, so I think it's time to see if it's possible to make a living on makin' pipeys.
I've calculated my expenses, and I need to bring in roughly $60 a day. That's equivalent to three standard pipeys! I can DO that, guys. Three pipeys a day is not unreasonable. I recently ordered a big box of boxes, so that'll make shipping a lot easier. My website is up to date. (that's http://floppybelly.com for those who don't remember) My Etsy store is up and running, and is a fantastic way to make commissions official and accountable, and offers a very organized system of communication between customer and creator. I do have both Livestream, Ustream, and Google+ accounts, and would be willing to use any of those to hang out with people while I work on their pipeys. I've got some good tunes and some cute cats, so that should be fun.
I'm also thinking of doing themed discounts, to help encourage those kind-hearted souls who have always wanted to commission me, but were never sure just what they wanted. Ideas for future themes include Marsupials, characters that are yellow, arthropods, couples, things that fly or swim, extraterrestrials, anime creatures, etc.
For this theme, I'm doing Halloween. That means spooky stuff! Like spiders, bats, snakes, rats, owls, werewolves, black cats, and who knows what else goes bump in the night! NO SLENDERMAN!!! If you think of something I've forgotten, just ask! People ordering pipeys in the Halloween theme (orders of $20 or larger) will receive free shipping, and a small jack-o-lantern window cling to help with your festivities.

Posted 12 years agoI went last year and had a pretty good time, so I went ahead and applied for the Dealer's Den this year. Mom's not able to commit to driving me up there like we did with the RV road trip last year, but I figured it'd be better to go ahead and grab a table while I can rather than waiting until the last minute. Worst case scenario, I'll just have to cancel it.
Anyway, I requested seats next to

Write 10 things you want to say to 10 different people right now. Do not specify what belongs to who, and do not answer questions regarding to whom a statement might be directed. All are people I am watching on FA.
1. I wish we weren't both so busy, it's not right that we go to the same school and hardly ever see each other. I don't know if I would want to be in anything serious, but I do like spending time with you and wouldn't mind seeing where it might go.
2. I am SO happy for you and your mate. I can't wait to see you again in six months, though that seems like forever from now. Keep in touch, yeah? You're awfully busy too!
3. I hope you find someone who works out for you, I really do. You're not a bad person, it's just that you and I have very different interests and personalities. I don't like listening to you talk most of the time. Sorry.
4. You do wonders for my self esteem sometimes, you know that? Thanks so much for that, it's a rare thing for me. I really hope we get a chance to spend some time together before we're both all old and gross. Keep your chin up and remember that there ARE people out here who care about you!
5. Much of the same goes for you- when you feel unwanted or worthless, cut it out! You've got a fanbase, whether you asked for them or not, and we all care about you. You WILL find someone to call your own, but you've gotta make sure to do it on your own terms, not theirs. You've got a lot of talent and a lot of love to give.
6. I never quite know what you're looking for. Maybe you're not looking for anything at all, you seem pretty content most of the time, even without a significant other! Regardless, you are fun to hang out with most of the time, and I hope we get to do it again soon. Talk to me more, I enjoy insight into your head :3
7. I'm glad we got a chance to hang out more this time around, I feel like we could totally be BFFs if we weren't, you know, a continent apart. Keep being awesome, and I'll do my best to keep up!
8. Well, you made your choice, though I suppose you probably made it a long time ago and I was just deluding myself. Sometimes I get the feeling you regret it, though, and I wonder if you'll ever change your mind? Please don't sacrifice your happiness just to fit in.
9. You lead probably the busiest life out of all of us, and I would HATE to see it run you ragged. Please don't hesitate to delegate some things to your network of friends, we just want to help! Don't forget to take some time to relax and smell the fanboys, and maybe open yourself up to more than just one or two people, even if just a little bit at a time.
10. You remind me of myself sometimes, with how absentminded and immature we both can be. I hope that one day you'll be able to support yourself, so you won't have to rely on over-controlling relationships like you have been.

Posted 13 years agoI'm at an impasse. On the one hand, I'd really like to see my specific body type represented artistically a lot more. I feel like maybe the artists I watch need better references of how to do that. (Or maybe I'm just not watching the right artists!) On the other hand, I'm far too modest/un-self-esteemed/shy to create any such references from myself. So like, is there a way to show off one's body without being like... naked and stuff?
Also, if anyone can figure out that upload problem I'm having, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm kinda stuck until I can get it solved.

Trouble uploading?
Posted 13 years agoHey guys, quick question. I've got a collection of pictures I took at Anthrocon. I've been able to upload them so far on facebook, tumblr, and deviantart. But when I try to put them here on FA, or on Inkbunny, only certain ones are cooperative. The others refuse to upload- on Inkbunny they give me an error message, and here they just sit and load indefinitely.
Any idea what's going on?
