Update on my previous commission journal
Posted 2 months agoCommissions are still open!
I do want to iterate on some rules that I hadn't had explicitly stated in the previous commission listing, but, there is some additional "Won't do's" after some rough experiences with some previously accepted recent comms (and one I had to outright cancel).
The explicit extra rules, on top of the previous ones, are now:
- I won't do anthros - I seriously genuinely cannot draw them. The semi-anthro style seen here is fine, but human shapes I am genuinely incapable of. This has caused me a lot of grief and anxiety - I simply cannot do them, I'm sorry.
- I won't do characters being actively malicious. I had to cancel a CBT-related comm I was prepped to do work on because it was affecting me that badly mentally. I can't draw good for you if the drawing is making me anxious.
- Backgrounds WILL COST EXTRA. I've had some recent commissions with backgrounds that blindsided me. And both have taught me I need to charge more for complicated backgrounds. Especially ones that will take more time than the actual subjects of the picture.
Otherwise everything laid out in price sheet is still true (I believe Ripparu is still unavailable as a lineartist however). Commissions are still extremely open, and I'd be grateful to get any.

Fur Affinity banners don't support being less tall?
Posted 2 months agoThat's uh
Wow
300px is kinda gigantic girthy. At least on the Classic theme. If that's the standard for the Modern theme, that's even more reason for me to dislike the Modern theme hahaha.
I should clarify that the Classic theme banner is only around 135px tall. Which I actually prefer.
EDIT: It seems it runs a recompressor on JPEGs too. I'll never have a pixel art banner hahaha.
Is there any place to raise discussion on the banner features? The forums have shut down, and I dunno where else I'm suppose to bring this sort of thing up anymore.

Adendum to the previous journal
Posted 2 months agoIt turns out whatever the heck Fur Affinity is using to process .gifs into profile banners doesn't work. At all.
It also turns out that, yes, they are .jpg only allowed.
RIP us pixel artists I guess.

Question about Fur Affinity profile banners
Posted 2 months agoAre they always forced to be .jpgged? Or does uploading as a .gif allow it to be non-garbled up. I am asking for pixel art related reasons.
Follow-up to previous comm journal
Posted 3 months agoI really REALLY appreciate all the support! Seriously, thank you. My commission queue is three people long at the moment - I am reluctant to add more onto the queue for now, even though there's no forepayment, because I know that the delivery times would massively blow out if I did.
Currently the queue is:
Mystery Client #1
Mystery Client #2
Mystery Client #3
There was also an astonishingly generous donation froman anonymous supporter that's also seriously helped keep me afloat. I'm still processing this, it's honestly incredibly overwhelming. I'm really grateful for all of your support. Seriously.
I feel really embarrassed I hit this sort of a pit in the first place, even if it really does boil down to a bunch of bad luck circumstances happening to converge at the same time.
I'll be getting to work on these! I'm still not use to doing solo comms, but I'll try my best!
EDIT Sep 6th: Just one more comm to go. I'm sorry this's been so slow. These have been harder than expected @_@

Money Troubles (Comms EXTREMELY Open)
Posted 3 months agoI, genuinely, hate to make this sort of journal. But I've kind of hit an unexpected financial pit again.
At the end of July, I ended up falling pretty ill, and being unable to eat the existing food I had in the house. I'd usually bought just a day or two worths of ingredients ahead of time anyway, but this already came at a very lean period of money for me. Whilst I'm physically feeling better now, this period has also forced me to be mute (ie. unable to speak verbally) due to my voicebox literally being burnt away after a particularly unpleasantly acidic throw up - which has affected streaming (and the associated income with that too) - that's recovering, but it's probably another week until I feel safe to resume streaming.
ANYWAY
All of this to say is that I'm about $200AUD (around 130USD) short of where I should be. This isn't just the unwellness, but also a conflux of really poorly timed bills hitting all at the same time.
Commissions are extremely open, the price sheet from March (NSFW) is still mostly valid, but any works involving me collaborating with a lineartist aren't able to involve Ripparu drawing new lineart for the time being.
I'm getting more confident doing solo works, the FLYGONSEXPRESS (NSFW) piece probably a better example than what's on the price sheet, so I don't mind trying to do those for you.
I really really hate to essentially come out begging like this, I try to avoid making this sort of call unless I'm stuck in a corner like this. I deliberately don't have a publicly accessible donation jar furry-side, because I can't do this sort of thing without at least doing work for you.
The ideal way to contact me is through Discord, over the user ID flurret.
EDIT: I have two commissions in the queue right now! I should be able to work on those for now, and those do take priority, but I might be able to take some more in the queue. I don't take upfront payment, so I'm not too stressed about doing this - but do understand this means I do have a queue to work through. I'm REALLY thankful for this assistance!

Commissions are open still!
Posted 8 months agoAs my commission reference sheet makes clear, I am extremely open to taking commissions!
I am more comfortable as a colourist, which does require me to collaborate with a lineartist, but I can try and do work solo as well. I would greatly appreciate being commissioned!
I do prefer being contacted over Discord for this sort of thing!

Commissions are VERY open!
Posted 10 months agoHey, so, January has become a bit less stable than I expected in terms of finances. Which is probably a recurring theme for a lot of us, I suspect, hahaha.
I FINALLY have a price sheet available! It can be found here!
I can work with Ripparu as a lineartist if you want something from scratch - we'd prefer to be contacted over Discord for that.
But I can also attempt something solo - but I do say it'd probably take a bit longer and have less consistent results than having a lineartist to work in co-production with.
And I can work with a non-Ripparu line artist - but I very much prefer they give permission for that to happen. Some artists don't like having the colour work outsourced to someone else, after all!
Either way, I'd love to be commissioned! I prefer to be contacted over Discord, but a Note can be sent to me too.
I do prefer not to charge for a commission until it is done. Usually people that commission me tend to be people I already know anyway, so this hasn't been an issue yet.
I'd really love the assistance. Either way, I hope things are going well for you all!

Fur Affinity 2.7 Update
Posted 10 months agoI admit I'm still not entirely sure how this affects Pokemon and Digimon submissions, they were not mentioned by name. There is submissions that I've posted onto Itaku and Weasyl without any concern at all, that I was unsure were safe for Fur Affinity.
Apparently all the people involved have been fired, but I still don't know if it is truly allowed or not, the submissions I posted on those websites.
I suppose I shall tread the water.
It's a gigantic shame tag filtering won't work on the classic theme - I really dislike the modern theme, and find the classic theme a lot snappier to use, and a lot less of a headache on 1920x1080-and-below monitors.
Not all of us have post-110dpi monitors after all.
Incidentally, there is an old alt. account I had on this website. I wonder if I should transplant the art I have on that account, it did pass muster with a Trouble Ticket submitted during the initial 2.7 wave all that time ago.

Caught up on comms!
Posted 11 months agoHey! Just letting you all know I've caught up on the commissions discussed in the previous journal! I'm in a MUCH more stable spot now, and don't need the commissions to not starve anymore.
HOWEVER, this doesn't mean they're closed! They are, in fact, still open. If you wish to commission me as a colourist (ie. in conjunction with a separate artist's linework, done with full permission), I may be interested. Do understand that the typical prices I've been paid are around 30-40USD for works done lately. I may be able to do lower pricing, of course. It depends on the picture and how busy I am.
100% solo stuff is still a category I feel I am very immature in, I can try it, but I technically already have one of those on my plate, and are still struggling to figure it out.
Thank you so so much everybody for your help! I have actually been incredibly busy. This includes pictures that aren't able to be posted publicly. I really really appreciate the fuck out of all this outpouring of help, and you all having helped bring me back to fiscal solvency.

Short On Money: Commissions are Open
Posted 12 months agoBIG IMPORTANT EDIT @ 3/1/25: The big crisis that started this journal is over. BUT that doesn't mean I've stopped taking commissions! I'm keeping the information below for now because I need to rewrite it later, and I'm a bit focused on other things at the moment.
~~~~
Hey everyone! So long story short: My expenses for the month came in way more than expected, and whilst I have the money to cover rent, I don't have the money to cover food in about a week's time. So, I'm going to have to work for it.
This means that my commissions are extremely open (all prices listed in USD).
Historically I've operated on a PWYW basis - and that is still true. Still, to offer a guideline for roughly what I've been paid in the past, I shall provide some examples in this journal for what might be a suggested price based on what I've been paid in the past as guidance.
The below submissions are artworks done as an ink-and-colour and/or pixel art job done over an existing picture (ie. linework done by a separate artist at minimum). The price range this sort of thing over the past 15 years has usually gone for is around $15-30, but I'm flexible on the margins of going lower, and have done so before.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/54248252/
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/52107647
When acting as the colourist/pixel artist over an existing picture, I really prefer the original lineartist is in on it, is fully consenting, and also has veto powers over the final result, this not being fulfilled is extremely disrespectful toward the original lineartist, to say the very least.
I can also attempt to do artwork for you where I have done everything 100% solo from scratch, including my own linework, but I can't guarantee an end result that you may desire. This also takes additional time, and I have a bit of a reputation for being a slow solo artist. Doing requests and commissions of 100% solo things before has required extensive study on my part.
The below commission is an example of me doing this, and the price guideline is around $25-40, but again extremely flexible on this.
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57044807/
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57044869/
I'd really really appreciate the assistance. I do feel an element of humiliation putting this call for help out. Especially since I know I'll be in a much healthier situation fiscally come December. But now isn't December, and right now I'm a teensy bit fucked.
EDIT: There is now a commission queue! This should cover me for now. But commissions are still open for now regardless.
The Difficulties Of Community Reconciliation
Posted a year agoWe'll see if the Fur Affinity staff can pull off regaining the trust of the furry community. I have no idea if that's even possible.
So many people have deliberately left this website, and formed their own smaller sub-communities elsewhere.
Fur Affinity is no longer the centralising hub it once was for our subculture.
I am sympathetic to the extreme limitations of being understaffed. Even if I've never had to manage the insane level Fur Affinity is having to process. Especially with the fact that, frankly, onboarding new staff is a more difficult process than I think many people actually understand.
But this doesn't mean I give things a free pass. Far from it.
I am still extremely distrustful of the direction of policy decisions regarding this website, and it's why I have posts that have only ended up on Itaku (as a primary source) rather than on Fur Affinity too. And I suspect will continue to do so.
Steering a heavy ship on a dime isn't an easy task.
Other Furry Sites I Use
Posted a year agoI never really did art of nappies, but I'm pretty sure a portion of my followers are affected by the recent events anyway.
https://itaku.ee/profile/flygon
https://www.weasyl.com/~flygon
https://bsky.app/profile/flurret.bsky.social
These are about the only furry communities I use. I barely check Weasyl. I practically don't even use Bluesky. I literally just use it to be able to more reliably view things on that website.
Your best bet for following me is Itaku.
After seeing FA staff comment on a particularly big user's journal saying "Nah you're probably fine and not affected" and getting zero trust from that user in reply, I'm pretty sure their responses are just going to be extremely tone deaf to the entire community.
Commissions are, once again, OPEN
Posted a year agoMy rent's gone up a quite not insubstantial margin, so I'm having to place out the notice of my need to earn additional money.
As usual, I'm generally a colourist collaborating on other's lineworks, but I can attempt to do solo stuff if needed.
I have no particular set pricing, so it tends to be a PWYW job. Feel free to contact me over the FA notes, or over Discord - I do prefer direct contact rather than Friend Requests over Discord.
Hmm
Posted a year agoI'm really disappointed in what happened. I'm still not really sure how I am processing it. I tend to look to the future, and I find the future looking very uncertain, and that makes me feel uncomfortable.
At the very least, for goodness sakes, vote for what makes the American healthcare system better and more accessible, if you're from the US and reading this journal.
I actively avoided speaking with Dragoneer, due to my own past history with a separate website I use to staff. It would've always been an elephant in the room.
So, my personal feelings on them always ended up coming from the view of, functionally, the furry equivalent of politics. Which is probably why I'm unsure how to process the news of what has happened. It might take a few weeks.
Nobody should ever have to die that way.
Commissions are OPEN
Posted a year agoHey, I finally got the commission I had been working on done. It was exhausting, and I generally don't do solo artist comms hahaha.
If you want to commission me, feel free to note me here, or DM me on my instant messengers! I would seriously appreciate the fiscal support.
Colourist Commissions Are Open!
Posted a year agoThey actually haven't been closed this entire time. But I have a particular need around this time, a few things are running shorter than I expected.
Remember, almost everything I post is a collaboration. So you need the original lineartist to be fine with a continuation on the work by the secondary artist (ie. me).
I'd really appreciate the help!
Feel free to contact me by note, or over the instant messenging services (if you have me on those).
Another year in life counts up!
Posted a year agoWhew, it's hard to believe I've spent almost half a lifetime on this website. Another year, another birthday.
I hope you are all going well out there! I've had a good year myself, so I'm feeling pretty enthusiastic about life.
Be sure to backup your Notepass/Nintendo Letter Box 3DS!!
Posted 2 years agoNintendo's (and pardon the Twitter link) officially shutting down the 3DS and Wii U servers for online functionality on April the 8th.
This includes Swapnote for the 3DS.
I know a lot of people watching me probably used that service around 2011-2013, so don't forget to back everything up from that. Don't let those memories between yourself and your friends get lost.
I got reminded of some people I use to talk with, and have indeed learnt what happened to some of them. Some of the news is good, some of the news is sad. Regardless, never ever let those memories be forgotten. They're essential.
Note for those seeking commissions
Posted 2 years agoI do ask that you send me some kind of a message on FA, Itaku etc. before adding me on Discord. It's nearly impossible to filter someone out from scammers otherwise if you block non-friended people messaging you.
Commissions Are Open!
Posted 2 years agoAs per the latest sub, I do, in fact, work on comms. Including stuff that isn't inside my usual wheelhouse.
Feel free to contact me over Discord, or note me on the various services I use, if you are interested.
Note that I work as a colourist for commissions - there's a reason the descriptions always credit a separate lineartist.
Uncertainty; Commissions - Two in One Journal!
Posted 2 years agoOkay, addressing the first word in the journal title: I still have zero idea what is and isn't allowed on my Fur Affinity Gallery.
This is affecting the new posts I can make. Even if the existing trouble ticket replies they've given imply I can, there's been other's galleries being affected that imply I can't - so I have literally no idea what I can post on Fur Affinity. I'm not sure I can ever post any kind of NSFW up onto here again.
If you want to find me, you can find me on the sites linked here: https://linktr.ee/flurret
Anyway!
To the second word in my journal!
I, as always, could use money. And it's become a tighter month than usual. Don't panic too much, I'll manage more than fine without comms, but commissions really are helpful in a situation such as this.
Feel free to add me on Discord or Telegram. I'm more likely to respond to those than Notes on Fur Affinity.
If you want to find me, you can find me on the sites linked here: https://linktr.ee/flurret
Anyway!
To the second word in my journal!
I, as always, could use money. And it's become a tighter month than usual. Don't panic too much, I'll manage more than fine without comms, but commissions really are helpful in a situation such as this.
Feel free to add me on Discord or Telegram. I'm more likely to respond to those than Notes on Fur Affinity.
Reminder - Other Places I Am Found
Posted 2 years agoYou can find me at the below sites:
https://itaku.ee/profile/flygon
https://www.weasyl.com/~flygon
https://inkbunny.net/Flygon
My rate of posting on Fur Affinity will be heavily restricted for NSFW Pokemon artwork. Posts will be across all three sites.
My entire FA gallery has been backed up locally, the comments and statistics will not be lost.
July Looms
Posted 2 years agoI still haven't heard back from FA regarding my trouble ticket.
I've archived every single submission up on my page.
I'll be removing them when I actually get told what needs to be removed.
I'll make note of what is removed to help act as a guideline for future uploads for all artists.
