Conversation
Posted 9 years agoI have an online contact who continually contacts me with "hello" and sometimes smilies.
they then refuse to have any other conversation than "how u" and single word replies. They cant be too busy to talk or they wouldnt contact me.
Right over on the other side of the spectrum, recently I was in the kitchen making soup. Someone new has requested being added to my skype. so, I added them. when I got back to my computer with the soup, (six minutes tops) I fount this new guy had already sent the following:
"hiyas"
"lol!"
"it polite to talk!"
"why no rely?"
"talk to me" (about eight times)
"I block now! you rude."
phew! dodges a bullet there!

My little ponies: rant. sorry.
Posted 12 years agoOkay, so, recently I get back online after several long periods of being disconnected, and I get my paypal account all ready for comissions. Then I think I had better get some practice in, so I ask around for requests and someone says to me, "oh! do me some pony art"
I told this person, sorry I cant do pony art. its not a style i'm good at. (a lot of pony fans want art in the exact style of the show for some reason) then I go to bed.
next morning six people have left messages saying they're blocking me because of my pony hate, and I have several hate emails.
so, here are some points for all you pony fans out there.
1: it IS a cartoon show. the morals are good, but you should go too far with any work of fiction.
2: not every artist has to spend their lives churning out pony stuff. artists have their own tastes too. Thats why a lot of artists have separate accounts for pony stuff. they dont want to get tied into it.
3: people, hating me because I dont watch EVERY episode, draw them all the time, play with the toys, listen to the music, etc? hating? really? did you never actually listen to anything the characters were saying? just read the tagline. "freindship is magical" not "freindship is to be restricted only to people who like what you like"
get some perspective here.
so, to sum up, no pony art from me, I just dont do it. I just CANT do it.

trying something new
Posted 14 years agoits a sort of artquest.
I'm currently mythril artist, because its gonna be freaking HARD
What ive got to do is draw a sketch for EVERY SINGLE CURRENT USER who is watching me. as long as they have an active account. If they dont appear to have their own characters, I will draw something based on their favorates.
I will not contact any of the artists reguarding this, if they want the art taken down, they will have to email me asking me to take it down. Oh, and a lesson learned from previous sketch sessions I have done. If I draw something for person a, and it looks a lot like the character belonging to person b, its probably because its a generic tiger or something.
lets get started!

the rapid sketch things
Posted 14 years agoRight now, in my sketches foler you can see some very poorly drawn art. these are pictures I draw as fast as possible. this is for training purposes. Now, before you guys go into some kind of horrified rubbish about such training would encourage sloppiness, go read anything by preston blair or "drawing on the right side of the brain". there that should take them a while. now that we're rid of THEM,
(hopefully) NEXT friday, 11th june I'm going to try for six. yes six images in ONE HOUR . any requests for this frankly daunting task, line them up here! I cant do this without the reqeusts after all.

Be nice to newbies!
Posted 18 years agoOkay, how to start this without it sounding like a rant or whine? hmm... well, basically, ive noticed recently that some people have been discouraging new artists, in fact some of them have been downright rude. Ironically, almost all the aforementioned people do not draw themselves.
Before you proceed in your self justified crusade against all art that fails to make your genitals tingle, may I remind you that everyone was once as bad as these guys. In fact some were worse. and to those of you who can draw, in a few years you'll be old, and set in your ways, and wont bother learning modern methods, and the next generation will be laughing at your art and saying things like "look at him! its a jpg! he doesnt even use holojection!" and who will be stepping up and saying "hey, lay off! this guys work is classical! Why, all the advice he gave me, back in the old days when we had to use our hands to draw...." Well, the very guys youre putting down now wont be, thats for sure.
The furture of art depends on artists passing on advice. Without experice passing down the line, we may as well be paining on cave walls with crushed berries.
