If you need a handler and won't have one, ask, someone might be able to help out.

"Here is our policy regarding costumes:
Costume Policy
Appropriate costumes are allowed on the property of ACCD facilities as part of a scheduled event or in support of the operations of the department.
· No costume may be worn that in its manner of design displays nudity that would be deemed illegal or inappropriate.
· No costume that resembles or imitates law enforcement, military or any other government public safety entity will include covering the persons face.
· Any person who has as a part of their costume a weapon or any other instrument that requires a safety check inspection will remove any facial cover or headgear for the duration of that inspection.
· Any person who has as a part of their costume a facial cover or headgear that obscures their face may be asked by ACCD security staff to remove the cover upon request. "
Sounds reasonable! ...will I put money down on that being the final answer, no. But it sounds good.
Definitely need to keep San Japan in mind for next year, sounds like the folks who went had a good time!

Posted 11 years agoThis is TOTALLY last minute but...our sister city's anime con will be going on! I know Sammy will be going. If you have the weekend free, head out there, dress up and take some pics!
Austin Comic Con, October
Posted 11 years agoSark points out that Austin Comic Con is coming up in October. This could be a good costume-friendly event. I'm trying to get an official 'yes' from the convention center but costumes with face covers are common at these events, just barging on in would probably be fine.
I've never been to a comic con myself, but Familiarraver says:
"Make a cosplay for your fursuit :3 I got a 100 percent more positive response in cosplay than just a plain fursuit."
Ashtaar sez:
"(I think comicon is more receptive to) cosplay. Anime or anime influenced, or video games. Now a fursuit that can be modified to a video game character would fit seamlessly! "
There are accounts of people wearing plain 'ol suits and having a fine time too, but if you have any ideas that could turn your fursuit into a reference to a fantasy or video game character, even a silly/funny one, this could be an excuse!

Austin Fursuit dance
Posted 11 years agoWhines here...it's been a while, time to organize another dance! Para and Tique will be coming down from Dallas on August 2 and want to meet folks, that's a good enough excuse.
This will be at a private residence, so there's zero get out and be seen factor, but I will be approving the guest list so there will be no creepers. There will be rooms to change in and plenty of fans.

Darn you, Main Event
Posted 11 years agoThe staff at Main Event played a manger switcheroo and changed their minds about allowing costumes that involve masks, frustratingly at the last moment. :/ Really annoying. Tylenn almost bit her.
Thanks to everyone for having a good attitude about it and having a good time anyways! It was great to see some new faces, some from out of town.
We'll figure something better out soon. At very least, Halloween is on the horizon, and is there's one blank check holiday for costumes that's it!

Group photo at Main Event
Posted 11 years agoLet's try to gather for a group photo at 7pm, before folks get too spread out!
Also, please be polite and respectful to the staff and other patrons at the Main Event. If the event goes well we'd like to be welcome to come back. Indoor venues are important because suiting indoors is MUCH more comfortable than it is outside in Texas. We have pictures of the interesting purple colors Tylenn turned after a scampering around in Zilker park to prove it. :)
If you see anything going on that shouldn't be, please let Main Event security or one of us know.

I've posted pics of Tylenn, Avrin and myself in the gallery if you need help spotting us in the real world.
If you have any problems--kids pulling your tail, people trying to have a conversation when you don't want to talk in costume, a distraction to sneak off and cool down, or just some space, wave at one of us and we'll come by and play polite distraction.

Posted 11 years agoI am happy to hear we are having so many wanting to attend the Main Event Meet but we have been having a slowly growing issue developing in the comments and I feel I need to shed some light on this.
Events that I tylenn set up is primarily for a meeting of friends and new furs to get together in a positive and welcoming experience. In order for me to do this is is my responsibility to ensure those who go will have a positive experience and if need be that entails asking some not to go.
There is someone who has made several furs, myself included, uncomfortable in our meetings and so I have asked him not to go. I understand there might be several furs who do not agree with my decision but it is final.
I will not allow him to attend my event, any further attempts to change my mind will be hidden or ignored.

Main Event Meet up!!!!
Posted 11 years agoOn July 10th we will be having a blowout event at the Main event (13301 N Highway 183, Austin, TX 78750). awesomeavrin and I ( tylenn ) went up there and spoke with management and they were on board for allowing firs to go there for our party
The event will start at 6pm and goto whenever. If you are going to suit you will have to check in with the management office when you enter and might have to show your face ( they have a no mask policy but are going to overlook it for the event. they said we might not have to take the masks off but if we do it will be in the office and not out in plain view. ) They will do this to get a face with the fur.
I want this to be the biggest event we have done yet, I want San Antonio furs, Houston furs, Dallas furs.... EVERYONE!!!!! spread the word

Eeyore's birthday is tomorrow!
Posted 11 years agoA reminder that Eeyore's birthday is tomorrow at Pease park!
It's expected to be in the mid-80's tomorrow and as mentioned before, it's impossible to get to the park without some walking, so taking an elaborate costume will be challenging. Not that I don't expect the hardcore to try it. *cough*Tofu*cough* :)
If you have the time, swing by and show off your Austin weirdness! I (Whines) can't stay long but plan to visit earlier in the day.

Posted 11 years agoTylenn has been in contact with our charity ( http://www.austinpetsalive.org/ ) and they're enthusiastic about fuzzy dress-up people promoting them, so we'll have some flyers and stickers to give out tomorrow evening!
Weather for tomorrow shouldn't be too bad, and hopefully by the evening when we're there it'll cool off.

Eeyore's birthday is a costume-and-weirdness-positive, dog-and-family-friendly free outdoor festival in Pease park, which runs along Lamar near the UT campus. It's always interesting!
As the page linked above mentions, there is no parking available anywhere close to the park, so take that into consideration. There will be free shuttle buses running between the garage at Colorado and 16th and the festival.
There will be vending booths with snacks and drinks and port-a-potties aplenty.
At least a few of us will be there! :)
