DADAD Challenge Done
General | Posted a month agoIn September I started doing a little art challenge that Charn started. The idea was to draw a dick a day. So it's the DADAD challenge. I didn't get all the prompts done in September, but I vowed to get them all done by the end of the next month. I got the last couple of prompts done last night shortly after midnight (that still counts to me). Unfortunately, my scanner died before I could scan the last two pictures. So you guys will have to wait to see the last little sketches I made.
I think I got a little bit better doing all of those drawings. That's really exciting!

New feature on FA!
General | Posted 3 months agoIt's easy to read stories now! It's so much better than it used to be. FA used to be the worst place to upload and read stories. I'm glad it's better now. ^;=;^
I finished modvember
General | Posted a year agoI did it! I drew a picture for each day of modvember! I've never finished an art challenge before. But this one felt really important. I feel really good about myself. And now I have these colored pencils.

Enjoying Modvember
General | Posted a year agoI've been enjoying doing this modvember thing. I'm not sure how long this drawing hobby will continue. And I know I'll never be very good at art. But I'm having fun getting to draw stuff. I used to have a lot of ideas that made me think "somebody should draw that". And now I find myself thinking "I could draw that". So that's really exciting. The few comments I get on the pictures are really exciting to me. Don't be afraid to comment, even if you have nothing to say beyond "this is nice". I even love that. <3
I'm enjoying getting to visualize these silly ideas and show them off. Some of them have been in my head for a while. So be sure to check the descriptions! ^;=;^

I got my server working
General | Posted a year agoFergus here. A couple of weeks ago I got my server working! It now works to centralize my files between all my computers and backs up their files.
I also got media server software installed on it. So I can now stream music, movies, and tv shows from it. I don't have much in my media library. But I'll eventually fix that.
I tried setting up a server like this a few years ago and it went very poorly. So I'm really excited that this project is finally finished.

I started drawing
General | Posted a year agoFergus here. I haven't been programming lately. My technical hobbies have been set aside for the moment.
But I started drawing about a month ago. I started with a little cheap tablet/laptop I had. But the screen was small and slippery. Despite Krita being a fun tool, it was frustrating to draw with the setup. So I've been doing simple pencil and paper drawings. I'm doing a little practice about twice a week. I don't think a lot will come out of this. But it's fun. I will share some of what I've drawn with you guys of course.
For now I'm starting with ponies.

I'm back from my first convention
General | Posted a year agoLast weekend I went to FurTheMore 2024 in Washington DC! I've never been to a furry convention before, or any convention really. But I knew that Striker and Sabrina would be there. So I would have someone to show me around at least.
I've been wanting to go to a furry con for almost a decade. I heard it's nice to spend money on the vendors. So I saved up a thousand dollars to spend at the vendors there. I spent all of it. I have so many plushies, stickers, prints, and other merch now. I'm so happy with all of it.
I enjoyed the events and panels. I hung out with some my little pony fans, did furry yoga, spent some time in a plushy pool, and did an escape room. Those are just a few events out of many that I did. I also hung out with Sabrina a lot and got to meet a few of her friends.
The convention had about 1,500 registered people attending. If I saw someone in a cute fursuit, I would notice them several more times throughout the day. Getting to hug people in fursuits was so nice. That's the one thing I miss the most now that I'm back from the con.

Going to my first convention
General | Posted 2 years agoHey guys, it's Fergus. Despite being part of this fandom for about a decade, I've never actually gone to a furry convention (or a convention of any kind). I was stuck in college for a long time, and I heard about all the fun people were having going to conventions during that time.
I've never travelled on my own before. But I did all the work planning and navigating when I went to Australia. Going to Virginia should be simple compared to that.
I'm going to FurTheMore 2024! I'm excited and nervous. I leave next week, so I should start packing.

Back from Australia
General | Posted 2 years agoA couple weeks ago, I left on a trip to Australia. I've never travelled internationally before. I had a lot of fun. ^^
In Brisbane, I met a couple of friends,
ristin Ristin and
jaystoat JayStoat. Then I travelled up the east coast. I eventually made it to Port Douglas.
I'll have to post some pictures on my deviant art gallery.
It was a long trip, so I'm obviously skipping over a lot of details. Does anyone want me to make more journals about what stuff I did?

Vacation
General | Posted 2 years agoLife has been pretty good to me so far. I'm paying off part of my college debt by funding a vacation with my dad to Australia. I've been planning this trip for a while. But I'm finally going to be leaving tomorrow. I've never travelled internationally before. So this is really big for me. I'm not sure if I should be excited or nervous. It hasn't really set in yet.

... but it has a blue ray player and two internal hard drives. Better stick with it.

life stuff
General | Posted 3 years agoFergus here. I'm a bit short on funds lately. And this old laptop is the only functioning computer I have.
But on the plus side, there's a lot of games on my ps3 that I've never played, and DVDs I haven't watched. So I'm finally getting around to enjoying those.
Last weekend I got to take all my ewaste to a recycling event held by my city. I had a lifetime of junk just sitting around, plus junk from my family they gave me to recycle. I had six laptops. Only three of those laptops were mine. One was the laptop I had in middle school. Other than that, I had multiples boxes of junk. My car was filled with it all.
My place now feels really clean without all that clutter. So I've been feeling really good about that.

Everything is broken
General | Posted 4 years agoMy gaming desktop started getting blue screens this weekend. And I can't figure out what's wrong with it. I've had this thing since I built it in 2014. That was my media center. So if I want to watch anything, I have to watch it on my laptop.
But my current laptop is one I got from a garage sale. It's super fancy, but it came out in 2012. And the screen had very slightly growing damage along the top and one corner. I dealt with it for half a year. But lately the damage blocks a full browser tab. So I need to replace it.
Unfortunately, to replace a laptop screen, you need to know if it's a 30pin screen or a 40pin screen (and in my case which side of the screen the port is on). And you need to take the screen out to do that. My screen broke while doing that.
So now I have to use an external monitor. But this leaves me with no fully functional computers. I used to have so many that I needed network attached storage just to keep all the files synchronized. Although that stopped working a couple of months ago.
So I have a lot of stuff that needs fixing.

I might be slow to respond, but I'm really happy to be here. Let me know how your year was. I want to hear from you guys. ^;=;^

I bought a laser printer
General | Posted 4 years agoI'm really hesitant about spending money but way too lazy to manage it properly. I'm paranoid some big bill will come in and put me in the red.
But I've been promising my friends I would run D&D games sometime, and I would want to print off my own maps to do that.
That's going to involve a lot of printing and a lot of expensive ink.
So I decided I would need a laser printer before running any games in person.
And I finally bought one. I'm still waiting for it to come in the mail. But I'm excited.

Laptop fixed
General | Posted 5 years agoMy laptop had been starting really slowly. It used to take 10 minutes after some point. I thought it was just some windows 10 update that messed it up. So I just lived with it.
But after dealing with that for months, something messed up and it started taking an hour to boot up. Not only that, but it would take 20 seconds for the windows UI to react to anything. A simple task like clicking the start button or using ctrl+alt+delete was a huge struggle.
So I bought new hard drive and backed up all my data. I got windows 10 running on the new hard drive, and my laptop works really well now. I was without it for a week, and boy that week was awful and depressing. But I'm glad to be back.

Goodbye Tabby
General | Posted 5 years agoTabby's health had been getting worse. With the vet's recommendation, I scheduled to have her put down. My parents came to town for the occasion. Today was the appointment. I held her in my arms as she went to sleep.
I got Tabby when she was just a kitten back in 2002. She's been with me for a long time. My Mom showed me all the drawings and stories I had made about her.
She was a feisty and energetic cat. She went outside a lot and loved getting into cars. My Dad made a wooden casket shaped like a car because of that. That was very nice of him.
When she was old, she became a much more mellow old lady cat. She always wanted to be in my lap when I was sitting down, or on top of me when I was in bed.
When I closed the plastic curtain to sleep by myself, she would bash her head against it until she could squeeze her way in. She was very persistent.
She's been with me for two thirds of my life, and was a good friend. I'll always remember her and love her. I cried a lot today. And I'll probably cry a lot more after that too.
Goodbye Tabby, you were the best cat I could ever ask for.
