Wood, virtual and real
General | Posted 12 years agoMy texture pack work has not been entirely 'Dur, me make pretty pictures'. I am learning quite a lot about different woods. Had no idea how many trees are used for lumber out there. Here is an example:

Notes on my Texture Pack development
General | Posted 12 years agoThis Journal is simply a reflection on what my next minecraft texture pack will consist of. I am writing it for my own organization, but feel free to chip in with encouragement or even suggestions.
The goal of my next texture pack is to create a system for combining a shape (what the thing is) with a surface (highlights and shadows derived from what the thing is made of) and color (hue that matches whatever material the thing is made of). Hopefully this will do two things: 1) make it much easier to add textures to it at a later date, 2) create a texture pack where everything seems to 'fit', rather than one texture looking cartoony, while the other looks realistic.
So far, all I have managed to make are wooden planks, but I've created a lot of base surfaces as well as isolated color schemes for different materials.
Not only do I intend to cover Vanilla Minecraft, but I also intend to support the few mods I like.
Build Craft
Industrial Craft
Balkon's Weapon Mod
Iron Chests
Forestry
Thaumcraft
and probably Steves carts, but I haven't gotten into that mod yet.
That's a lot of textures, actually. I am creating the textures at 512 resolution, but will condense them down to 256, 128, 64, 32, and even try to translate them to 16 when ready.
I'm thinking the pack will be ready in about three months from now... tentatively. I will not be supporting other texture packs until this one is out.
I have not even thought of a name for it. We'll have to see when it's Finished.

The News: I intend to upload my own support for Tekkit Lite later, and revamp the texture pack download site proper. Once that is done, I will no longer continue these texture packs (but they will be retained). I plan to work on two new texture packs, one cartoony, the other 'realistic', both with 'premeditated surfaces' in mind.
The idea is that I will create some primitive graphic work that will allow me to create new textures even faster, allowing for me to VERY quickly support all the new mods that strike my fancy. We shall see.
Tell your friends, and THANK YOU for even glancing at my work!

Minecraft texture packs delayed for a week

Minecraft Pre-release out, texture packs soon
General | Posted 13 years agoI am currently tweeking and bug-hunting my texture packs to make sure they are ready for Minecraft 1.5 coming VERY soon,
I just wanted to let you guys know that it would appear native minecraft now supports mismatched and higher resolutions, which, for me, runs faster than a patched minecraft. This could be awesome, but we'll see.
Thank you guys again for trying my texture packs, and tell your friends :D

The return of my Texture Packs... SOON
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm not dead. I have not faded into the malaise of internet's forgotten corner yet, and I HAVE been working on Texture packs.
Working to update my texture packs has been time consuming, half because the upcoming Minecraft change has altered how texture packs are arranged and half because I've taken to playing Tekkit Lite, which has it's own unique file structure.
The Bottom Line is that I will return with my texture packs sometime around the next installment of Minecraft. When that happens, I should have a new layout for selecting and previewing my texture packs, and will have a special mix pack for Tekkit Lite.
All this before I can even get around to making Two more texture packs (realistic and cartoony) attempting to create a standardized theme to shape and design (like you see in Sphax).
I hope this post interests at least ONE person. It would be nice if I wasn't the only one enjoying my texture packs :D

for anyone who plays minecraft
General | Posted 13 years agoIf you use any texture pack (not just mine) you can use this to convert your chosen texture pack to the upcoming minecraft 1.5 format:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic.....om-dinnerbone/
When 1.5 hits, Minecraft will look for textures in a different folder, as individual files. This means that if texture pack authors are lax in updating their texture packs, users of the packs will see Vanilla textures instead of that annoying pink, or whatever the default color was on the texture pack sheet.
In short, this means you can enjoy out of date texture packs without having to wait for their update or endure funny looking graphic effects on the new items.

SIGNIFICANT change in store for Minecraft Texture Packs
General | Posted 13 years agoAs of snapshot 13w02a Minecraft now has a new folder for textures. It would seem that in the near future, you will be able to cobble together a texture pack from many individual images rather than having to tolerate "that one texture" the comes with the pack.
More on this in the future, but if you use my texture packs (or ANY texture packs for that matter) you may soon be able to mix and match rather than having to chose between packs that are "half right".
I encourage you to investigate: http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/.....y-for-testing/

Upcoming Texture Pack work
General | Posted 13 years agoFor those of you interested in my Minecraft Texture packs:
My Laptop is dieing. I do not know know when I will be able to replace it, or even repair it, but the thing no longer has a functioning battery and disk errors considerably exaggerates the amount of time it needs every time I start it up. I have a tower at home, but it's not as comfortable. I'm not complaining, but difficulties with my laptop has delayed all of my art projects.
That being said, I am working on more Tekkit support, namely for Tekkit Lite which will introduce chiseled bassalt brick, bassalt paver, silver blocks, tin blocks, copper blocks, and cage lamps, among other things.
I do intend to update my texture packs for the upcoming redstone update, but with my schedule it might be just after it's release that I finish it. I DID come up with a pretty nifty Redstone block, though.
It's entirely up to you, but if you want to mention any of my texture packs you prefer, I'll put their retrofit at the top of my 'to do' list.

Texture Pack work resumes
General | Posted 13 years agoAfter struggling with a dying laptop, I've managed to set aside time to continue developing my texture packs. This time, trying to go back and polish them a bit.
Currently, I'm working on Connected Textures Mod support for my texture packs, as well as the Anvil GUI. Should be out in a few days, no garentees.

If you use my texture packs for Minecraft...
General | Posted 13 years ago Just a warning, my laptop, which I use for the bulk of my graphic work, has been having problems and I am too poor to replace it in the near future.
I am also thinking of discontinuing support for texture packs no one seems to use. If you are still using a texture pack of mine, please let me know, so I know there is interest in preserving it.

Wither added to Foxfire's Texture Packs
General | Posted 13 years agoVersion 20OCT12 of Hybrid, Medieval, and Foxfire's 64 now have a Wither boss consistant with the Wither skeletons.
I will likely announce this formally with a picture just before Minecraft 1.4's Official release.

Anvils are now in Foxfire's Texture Packs
General | Posted 13 years agoFor those of you playing the Snapshot of Minecraft, my texture packs now support it.
I was sorely disappointed in the Anvil block, it's texture is mapped over multiple parts of its geometry, meaning I couldn't make any sort of details on it without it looking funny.

I am now working on my tenth Texture Pack...
General | Posted 13 years agoIs it any wonder why I don't touch alcohol?
In a couple of days, I should have the rest of my existing texture packs ready for minecraft 1.4, but for today I'm giving some thought to a new texture pack. The Theme for this one is that both the pallet and Tessalation shapes are premeditated and based on the material of each object. You'll see what I mean when I have enough for a screen shot.
I am thinking of starting "Texture Packs Anonymous"...

If you want to use my textures with Tekkit/Technic
General | Posted 13 years agoI am about to release my first support for Technic/Tekkit. There are a TON of textures, and I still have some left to do. Here are some things you should know.
The textures are designed for 64x resoulution, with 128x versions of hand held items. I will only be uploading versions of Foxfire's 64x, Medieval, and Hybrid with my Technic/Tekkit support.
If you want something other than default for my 32x textures, you can either wait or request that I create a Technic/Tekkit version of them expressly for you to download. I do not mind doing this, but if your computer is barely able to handle 32x resolution with Tekkit, be warned that the textures I've made for it are higher resolution and thus more demanding.
I plan on creating many more textures for Tekkit, but for now, I have to switch gears and get my Vannila support ready for Minecraft 1.4.

Minecraft Texture Pack Contest
General | Posted 13 years agoThe upcoming version for minecraft will include a new painting. I have not decided what I will add for each of my nine texture packs, so I decided to put it up for a contest.
The Prize: The winner will have his own art added as one painting in all of my current nine texture packs, for all future downloaders to see.
Contest Time: Now until September 30th.
To Enter: Take 1 to 3 screenshots of your own minecraft creation matching the theme below.
Send Foxfire a note to a link where he can download the screenshots or email them directly to kdaniel[at]tranquility.net
You do not have to use Foxfire's texture packs.
Creation may be made with Vanilla Minecraft or modded Minecraft.
Feel free to include short text highlighting anything of interest in the image.
The Theme: I want to see a comfortable home in minecraft. I will be looking for designs that look like a house, town, or castle that looks
as though someone would live there, and live comfortably. This may include inspiring colossi or redstone conveniences, but
emphasis should be made on interior design.
Disclaimers: The winning artwork must be acceptable to general audiences.
Your incredible talent will go to waste if you focus on redstone machinery rather than interior design.
AVOID retexturing solely for "props". (don't change otherwise unused blocks to look like sinks, refrigerator, endtables, ect)
You are granting Foxfire permission to upload your screenshots and link them to show them off.
Winner will be announced October 1st.

General | Posted 13 years agoThe latest snapshot for minecraft reveals an additional painting (2x2) of the Wither.
I first set about making texture packs just for the express purpose of changing the paintings, so I'm happy to see an additional one. Also looking forward to item frames.
