So, I've been working on my short stories, my novels, my novellas, and all of that is well and good, but there's something that I feel is lacking regardless of that. I'm starting to try and experiment with my writing, see what I can bang out in short stories that wouldn't necessarily be published, but instead be put up here and on FurryNetwork and SoFurry. I've not really... done that kind of thing in the past. Most of my writing has always been for myself, and generally just for the end goal of being published. Might end up in scraps, mostly, but we'll see.

Here's to hoping I can make something out of this?

So, I'm just sounding off in here about this because I'm a bit desperate: Been having some rough spots for most of this year and due to a few bad turns, I may be getting evicted. I'm not asking for handouts (though any offered assistance is greatly, greatly appreciated), but any words to friends, or ideas where to go, or even just advice on ways to make a quick buck or two that could help me get out of this would be beyond amazing. Or just give me tips on how to make uploading writing on FA more bearable (hint: it's not possible) But yeah, there's two full novellas posted there (which may be getting submitted to publishers soon, if I can get some beta readers to actually go through it) Two half finished stories, and a third has just started. I post updates to what I submit there and I give general ideas about what I want to do from time to time.

That being said, I've submitted to two anthologies so far, and I've been accepted to one! The other hasn't replied yet >_> But I'm still hopeful. I'm working on a couple possible submissions for HEAT, and I'll be starting a project for the next ROAR, and most likely FANG as well. In between these, I will continue to work on writing novellas and novels, and if I can find the right publisher to send them to, you'll get updates on those as well. I also have been updating things on the twitter machine from time to time, so there's that too. @ ryft_sarri is the one for writing things.

I've gone as Ryft Darkpaw for a while, but I didn't like the sound of it for an author/pen name, so I made a little change. I'm going to be writing under the name Ryft Sarri, just for future reference.

So this is a call out to any of my watchers, or really just anyone at all.


I've been listening to a lot of  FangsAndFonts recently and I find myself longing for a group that I can be a part of, strictly speaking of furry authors/writers/editors. I've been kinda out on my own for a while, and I feel like I've hit a cap. There's got to be a higher ceiling for what I'm capable of, and I'd like to really get into a group of other people like me, whether better or worse, as long as they have that passion for writing.

So I'd like to hear who's interested in joining a group/who knows a group that I could weasel my way into with dashing good looks and charm (totally don't have either).

I haven't been doing a lot of posting of my writing on my FA account, because as many of you know, I hate trying to deal with the text formatting needed to make this site display any document properly. So, I'm going to be uploading stories and novellas to my other accounts.

So a bit of hindsight here, just to keep updates and to get my bearings for the previous year, because a lot has been happening.

WRITING

So this is the area where the most has changed. I started out this year without much inspiration, just sort of floating on previous works with no real direction or drive. Wasn't a very good place to be.

Then, I got a job.

With my new job, I had new stimulation and a new distraction to keep my mind busy so that it can start churning over ideas! It was brilliant and something that I always finds helps bring new creativity to light for me. Because this one is particularly mindless and gives me long hours with ready access to a computer and a way to transfer my work, I was inspired to begin anew with my passion: Novel Writing.

And thus Forever Yours was born. A story that I have a lot invested in that I hope to see in publishing at some point, though that point in time depends on a few other variables. I worked for around four months on that, writing (approximately) 2.5k words a day. I felt amazing and I am so incredibly proud of myself for being able to stick to it. It also marked another couple of firsts for me: the first time I had a complete mental breakdown over something that I personally have created, as well as the first time I've completed a work of that size. Of any size, really. It felt damn good and assured me that I can do this.

A couple false starts later, I came across my next baby. Sky's the Limit. This was a huge marker for me as well, because it was the first time I was going to be writing a full story that uses sex and sexual situations as plot points, not just for smut. It was my foray into the world of the Adult novels and novellas, and it was wildly successful, if I'm going to be honest with myself. Never before have I loved writing so much as when I was writing this story. I poured so much of myself into it, and looking back now, I don't want to change any of it, namely because I feel it all belongs. It fits.

I've made some progress on other stories,but nothing super concrete as of yet, though keep an eye out for some teasers here and there, looking forward.

OTHER STUFF

Throughout all of this, I've moved once, brought someone else into the state, and now have started looking at moving again. Can't sit still, apparently. Got a boyfriend that I truly do not deserve, but I love him. Reconnected with some old friends and made plenty of new ones as well.

MOVING FORWARD

2016 is going to be a good year. I'm moving my boyfriend into state, I'm getting the first apartment that I'm going to be a major part of picking, planning, and paying for, I have a novel and a novella finished, and I only need to find an illustrator that I really want to work with to finish those out. I have many more ideas and stories that I will continue work on, and I hope to have more to show for it by this time next year as well, if not sooner!

Things are finally, truthfully looking up. I love life a little more every day.

In other news, I'm really looking for an artist that I can work with for multiple pieces of cover art, possibly illustration. Not really sure what I'm doing here, so advice is also helpful.

Running through a few rounds of editing and formatting have left me wondering whether I should try and submit this to a publisher before worrying about getting a cover artist. Haven't found someone I really feel that drawn to, but at the same time I'm very unsure of what I want to do with it, and I want to talk to someone about what might look good.

In other news, since I still work and still am bored all night at my job, I'm about 57k words into a superhero story that I'm really enjoying. Hopefully I'll be able to get the artist for one book to do the other. Would be neat to get someone to join me with that.

It's finished, folks. I can't say what a relief it is to finally finish something I'm so proud of. I've been around the writing world for going on twelve years now, and never once have I been able to say that this is something that I'm happy to say is mine. Writing has always been a weird form of... not exactly escapism, but more of a journey for self. It's helped me realize a lot of things that I didn't know about myself. So for those of you who are my fellows of the pen, take that to heart. It's not just for your readers: write for yourself!

So now comes the harder part of this: the stuff I have less control over. Finding and wrangling an illustrator and then publishing.

Joy.

Two journals in a month? It must be the end times. Regardless, I'm just about finished with the book... proofreading will be next and then maybe submission to a publisher?

If none are taking submissions over the next month or so, I'll probably try and get in for self publishing by the time RF rolls around

Life is weird and strange things happen. I'm 93k words into a real attempt at a novel, and I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

So I've decided to fall back into crafting again, as well as some serious writing. But while I work on something big, I'm gonna be making yarn tails as well. Hoping to get good enough to sell some, but I'm getting a few under my belt to try out styles and patterns, see what I can do first.

For starters I'm unemployed again. Always a fun time when you have that extra stress and disappointment in your life. I've got much better roommates now though, and I'm actually some semblance of "okay" emotionally despite my whining. There's still a lot that I wish I could change just in little things about my life, but hey, I'm making progress. Thanks to those who helped me out this year, you're appreciated more than you know.

So, based on time I'm gonna give ten short stories away, probably around 5k words a piece, depending on content.

IT'LL BE FUN

So as the monday after a convention dies down, I sit back at my computer with a beer and unwind, taking the time to reflect on what has happened this past weekend.

Thursday was uneventful, with mainly a reconvening of people I already know and love. Getting to talk to old friends that I haven't seen in ages, as well as newer friends who I had seen less than a week before, all with some lovely beverages to go around... this was an experience I would never want to give up.

Friday dawned and I jumped straight to the meat of what I did this year: Fursuiting. I pulled on my suit and made my rounds of the convention, got a few pictures taken, and in general just derped around. Met new people in the lounge and had some great conversations with people even as I relaxed in front of fans.

Saturday brought with it the aches and pains of being a bit more active than I'm used to, but all in all it only served to make me smile. Reminders of dancing, walking, jumping, talking; all these stored in just small little trials throughout the day.

Sunday began and the con started to close up shop. People were packing, rooms were checked out of, and everyone knew that the end was near. But that didn't stop us from going out with a bang! Harder music, better dancing, more energy than most people know what to do with! New friends say goodbye with smiles peering through wildly waving hair and flashing lights. What better way to close out an amazing weekend?

Finally, I just want to say thank you to everyone who I got to meet this year, and to those I got to reacquaint myself with. You people are the reason I look forward to getting back on my feet despite how much they may hurt from dancing! I love you guys.
