2025 FWA After Con Report
Posted 5 months agoA follow up for the loot photo, and other stuff.
Achievement Unlocked - Vendor Gifter (Unlocked by giving all vendors a gift)
Achievement Unlocked - Well Hydrated (Unlocked by drinking at least 2 containers of water. This one's a daily achievement)
Achievement Unlocked - Well Rested (Unlocked by getting at least 6 hours of sleep. Also a daily achievement)
So yeah, I managed to offer every FWA vendor a small gift. Most gave me stickers in return, one gave me a lanyard. Another gave me a beaded lizard. I got a marble from one of the Board Game Room staff.
I went to the Georgia Aquarium in fursuit and despite the heat, had a fun time. I'd been before so I knew most of the exhibits there and knew what I wanted photos and video of. There was an impromptu small group photo in which I appeared.
FWA has grown so much that they had to do something about the wait lines for Vendor Hall and Artist Alley. They implemented a virtual queue system that admittedly had some growing pains. I won't go further into that here but hopefully will see major improvements in the future.
Can't think of much more to add to this report, but hope to see many for conventions in the future and meet more of you all.

Update
Posted 5 years agoSo it's been a couple years. I have been to FWA 2018, Megaplex 2018, Anthrocon 2018 and Anthro Southeast 2018 (Chattanooga). I went to the same ones for 2019, with plans for the same in 2020.
Well, we all know how 2020 went as far as conventions, so I won't delve into that any further. 2021 is still questionable as far as conventions go, but I'm making plans in the event conventions are a go.
Hopefully everyone is doing well and staying safe. I've been on the road a lot (yay for essential workers), but the money is good. I still work on fursuits, and I've moved twice since the last journal. Did anyone ever say moving is stressful?
Well, that's all I can think of for now. Stay safe and I hope to see everyone at the next convention, whenever and wherever that is.

FWA 2018 post-con report.
Posted 7 years agoAnother FWA has come and gone. This years' theme "Galactic Gunslingers". Next year - "Pirates", May 9-13. It has moved dates about a month later, presumably to better accommodate our growth (just short of 5200 attendees this year!), and avoid scheduling conflicts with other events in the hotel.
I arrived Tuesday around 1:30 P.M. and checked in, stored my stuff in the room. Proceeded to the con office for loadout as well as drive one of the trucks. Trucks were loaded by 6:30 and got back to the hotel around 7:15-7:30. Went for some food and rested in my room for a while.
Wednesday morning we unloaded the trucks. Later that morning was the arrival of a friend from the Pittsburgh area, who needed a room spot for the night. We stored his stuff and he went about meeting people and such. I had to drive one of the trucks to pick up the food for the God Level Lounge, which kept me out and about until almost 7:00 P.M., by which time it was too late to return the rental truck. I milled around the con floor a bit, got some food, and went to my room for the night.
Thursday morning I had a roommate arriving from Florida, 2 friends arriving from Texas (by car), 2 local friends arriving, and 3 friends arriving from the west coast. Since I had booked a 2nd room for these 4 friends, I picked up the room cards and got them settled in. I had to return a rental truck, got back in time for staff registration, and opening ceremonies. Everyone was in line for registration, so I went up to my room, returned as Chamoore, and fursuited around in that for a couple hours.
Friday I didn't have much planned. Helped with some of the setup stuff (whatever didn't get finished Thursday). Visited Dealers Den, Artist Alley, Con Store (listed under "Loot!", below), and after getting into Killjoy, fursuited around for a couple hours, made sure to get plenty of photos taken (forthcoming soon-ish). My 2 local friends had to leave due to one of them not feeling well (long term health matters), so my Texas friend wanted to have a chat about it. After leaving his room, I was not feeling well myself so I went to visit our on-site medics. Saying I was in distress was an understatement. I was taken to a nearby 24-hour clinic and was there an hour or 2, but after getting some strong (prescription) pain meds and such, I felt much better and made my way back to the hotel. I milled around the con floor but didn't get into fursuit for the rest of the night.
Saturday I was still in pain. The meds helped bring it to a level where I could still leave the room and "do stuff". I slept in. I didn't fursuit at all on Saturday. However, there was NO WAY I would miss the charity auction if I had anything to do about it. So I did manage to attend that. Only 1 or 2 bids, no wins for me. (That's alright, as I didn't really need anything anyway, not to mention an unplanned expense visiting the clinic the night before). Right after that was the Dad's Garage improv act, which I highly recommend to anyone who likes that sort of thing and visits FWA. The auditorium was cold (as it should be for fursuiters) but with me not feeling well, I went to bed to try and warm up more than anything.
Sunday, last day of con. I'd missed a bit from the previous 2 days, but nothing that ruined the con for me. The group photo was at 10:30 A.M., so I had to get up, dressed, motivated, and into fursuit in time for it. "Foxy Brad" needed to make a public debut. I got into the room right on schedule, the group photo was taken, I stuck around for some of the fursuit mingle photos, and went to have more photos taken. Several folks made positive comments about "Brad" and at least 2 about his multiple tails. I didn't want to chance being ill in fursuit, so I went up after a couple hours and got out of it, came back downstairs and got my poster signed by the GOH, got my badges/photos from the photographer studio, and .... something else. We had to go pick up the rental trucks. We returned with those around 4:00, I went to the con store for an item I didn't want to pay full price for (and had a $5 con store credit to redeem as well). After that, we began take-down of the con, went to closing ceremonies, and began loading the trucks. Staff party was ... a little later ... and the Logistics crew had to depart to resume loading trucks. This year, FWA had some of the gaming going on until midnight and the dance/rave until 2:00 A.M. We had to wait until those rooms were done, closed, and packed up before we could load them on the trucks. We left the hotel with the trucks around 4:30 A.M. I returned in my personal vehicle (since my personal stuff wouldn't fit in the trucks) around 5:30. I had not slept all night. I asked about late checkout, the latest they could offer me was noon (as they had another large event arriving that day). So a couple hours of sleep later, we packed up all our stuff, made sure the room was clear, went downstairs, and checked out.
Loot!
Lanyard (given to all staff)
Badge
ID bracelet (RFID bracelets were used this year, typically intended to be non-removable. Most folks cut them off and trash them after the con is over.)
Belt "holster", the God Level Gift. Not a weapon holster, but with a number of pockets, waist and leg straps, it was very much in-theme and proved quite useful during the con.
Commissioned a badge in Artist Alley (photos when I receive it).
Con-Store goodies:
T-shirt
2 iron-on patches
3 pins
Themed lab-coat (bought at discounted staff rate)
See you all next year for "Pirates!"

Update! Achievement Unlocked! FWA 2017 post-con report.
Posted 8 years agoSo! I've been so very busy these last few weeks. Looking into my journals, did I not post a 2016 post-FWA con report???? How did I miss this? Oops. My apologies. So, where to begin?
I've been a little lax about posting WIP photos of Chamoore as I progressed on building him, RL work, change of employment (twice!) and getting finances back on track has taken its toll on me but I'm getting back into a routine again. As you can see from the photos, I made considerable progress getting Chamoore finished in time for FWA 2017 and even went as far to make a Kimono and pouch for carrying things in. For all intents and purposes, he's "done", at least, wearable for events and such. He still needs long hair and maybe a couple finishing touches. So, have a look at the recent photos and tell me what you think.
Next, FWA 2017 Game On. Or should I say, Game Over (insert credits to continue)? Wow! What a convention. I was on staff last year and did so again this year (Logistics). Checked into the hotel Tuesday and stayed until Monday. Loaded out trucks Tuesday night and unloaded Wednesday morning, went down to the lobby Wednesday night in suit. Atlanta had some *VERY* stormy weather and many flights were canceled. Travelers were diverted to any hotel with empty rooms, and ours was no exception. There were flight crews and passengers (as well as other folks) trying to check in, some of the furry suiters were in the lobby near the check-in line up to their usual playful antics and entertaining the guests (and kids). Several of us posed for photos.
Thursday was Opening Ceremonies. Due to the weather and flight cancellations, a number of attendees (and yes, even staff) were unable to make it in time (and some not at all). I suited a bit that night, didn't attend any events as none appealed to me.
Friday I hit up the con store for a t-shirt, the 2 collectors pins, the 3 iron-on patches (they did 8 last year), the RP dice and dice bag (offered as a combo), and visited the Furvilla table for a free lanyard. (I did not buy an FWA lanyard as I got a staff lanyard). No events that day, but did some staffing duties and suited for several hours that evening.
Saturday was the group photo and mingle, which included quite a few smaller group shots - home-built suits, groups from various makers, then groups by species, tail-stripes, etc. Suiters received themed badges in the shape of Tetris game pieces. After the group photo and home built suits, I was getting hot and decided not to bother with further groups; went to cool off a bit then went for a visit to the Furshoot studio. The photos are uploaded to my gallery. After de-suiting, a trip to the 10th floor was the food social (I forget the exact name of it, but there was food, and we were intended to be social). After that was the charity auction (no, I didn't buy anything, but I did at least place one bid), and then there was Dad's Garage, an insanely funny improv comedy act (a returning act from the last couple years). After that I had no plans, so a group of us went out to eat and by the time we returned, I was done for the night.
Sunday was time to get the rental trucks and get ready for Closing Ceremony. Attendance was 4200+, about an 800 increase from last year. I suspect there would have been more but weather and flight cancellations had an impact on it. Loadout went smoothly enough, staff dinner, and a more-than-slightly-sick foxy had me in bed before midnight (no, alcohol was not involved).
Monday morning it was time to leave. We were shorthanded and had like 5 people to unload 3 rental trucks, all of us dead tired and at least one of us not feeling well. But we got it done, and I finally got home and collapsed .... somewhere ... finally making it to bed that evening.
LOOT! A recap: Staff lanyard, Furvilla lanyard, both collectors pins, all 3 iron-on patches, t-shirt, RP dice and bag, Furshoot badge (and USB drive with photos), 3 commission badges from
AnnutheCatgirl (plus 2 more for my friends), FWA Tetris Game Piece badge, FWA hat, and FWA gaming mat (like a mouse pad, but larger). Also, FWA poster and "Do not disturb" door hanger (gifts for all attendees). Let's see, did I forget anything?
It was a lot of hard work, but it was also very rewarding and I had a lot of fun. I hope to see everyone there next year. *****FWA HAS THE WHOLE HOTEL NEXT YEAR!!*****

About "Chamoore"
Posted 10 years agoSo for those of you following along with "Chamoore", you may be wondering why exactly "Foxy" is making a skunk. Chamoore is a roleplay character another player asked me to play (her character's father), she wrote some relatively basic backstory, and I developed him from there. The reason I chose to make this my first fursuit is because I felt it was more straightforward than making a fox, and more to the point, mistakes I make on a secondary character won't bother me as much as they would on my "main" 'suit.
So, as you can see in the photos, the body suit is mostly done. A few tweaks, adjustments, and seams to finish ... and sleeves. Still, I'm content with the progress I've made in the last week or so ... paws, arms, and body suit (I still need to get a decent photo of the paws and arms).
Next up? Not sure if I'm going for the feet next, or the tail. I'd like a tail that comes up, behind my back and head, but clearly it will need some form of support ... I wonder if that type of foam they make "pool noodles" out of will work?

Paws! My first attempt.
Posted 10 years agoSo, while at FWA, I took a panel on how to make handpaws. The first was hand-sewn. It was my first time ever sewing anything, so it took me a while to learn what to do and how to do it. But after a few minutes, I got the hang of it well enough. It took me a couple hours to sew the first one ... and my eyes didn't work right the rest of the night. I didn't exactly get in a hurry to finish the second one.
Well, I had a sewing machine sitting around here collecting dust, so I dug it out of storage, cleaned it up, replaced the missing foot-control (probably how I ended up with it in the first place), got some needles, downloaded the owners manual, rummaged around and found some other necessities (thread, bobbins, and a needle-threader - man, those things are a life-saver), and figured out how to work the thing. A few mistakes and about half-an-hour of practice later, I felt confident enough to try the second paw.
Now, I had read where a "walking foot" is almost a necessity to sew fur, and I plan to get one soon enough, but for this project, I was in no mood to wait. I probably spent an hour sewing it together at a leisurely pace. It fit slightly more snugly than the hand-sewn one, but so far I am reasonably pleased with the results.
So, what y'all think? Time to move on to (trying to) make my first 'suit? Or, don't give up my day job? Feel free to answer in the shouts.

After Con Report - FWA 2015
Posted 10 years agoSo. It's been a couple days since I got back from FWA 2015. I had SO MUCH FUN! And I got to meet so many wonderful, lovely folks. I'll try to keep this from getting too long.
Thursday I had intended to arrive around 1:00, but one of the folks riding with me forgot their wallet/ID, so we had to make a quick U-turn to retrieve it. We arrived somewhere around 3:30. We finally got everything all settled in around 5:30. The line for registration seemed to loop all the way around the con floor, so we figured we may as well do the Opening Ceremonies and hope the line was shorter afterward.
Well, sure enough, after Opening Ceremonies, the line was shorter, and moved well enough. Since we had pre-registered, things went smoothly. Our badges came up soon, and they gave everyone posters, "dog-tags" with one of 5 Japanese "elements" on them, and fortune cookies containing fortunes custom made for the con.
I attended the GA Furs Meet & Greet. I had intended to attend the Second Life Meet & Greet, but ....
Saturday there was a Tea Social at 6:00, and everyone there got a little gift. I got involved with a game of Cards Against Humanity, and didn't leave until after 10:00, so I totally missed the SL Meet & Greet. Oh well. I had a great time and got to know a couple more wonderful people.
Somewhere along the weekend, I gained another year of age, so I went through the Den to see if I could find a little gift for myself. A badge would have been nice, but there were WAY TOO MANY talented artists for me to choose one to commission! In the end, I picked up a Plushie Foxie to keep me company instead.
Sunday evening was Closing Ceremony, and the attendance figures (as well as estimates for the Fursuit Parade) were revealed, as well as next year's theme. Attendance was 3252 (up from 2400+ last year), the Fursuit Parade they lost count, but they had 700 water mugs for the fursuiters, and they ran out (I would estimate 750-800, as a few did not attend the parade).
As soon as that was done, it was time to pack and load. I helped 'em load the trucks, and once done, headed to the Dead Dog Dance. I didn't dance ... more like dragged in. We left a bit after 10:00, finally got in the car just before 11:00, and home before midnight.
LOOT!
Poster
Con-badge
Dog-tag
Tea Social gift
Sticker (given to me by someone I room-shared with. Wasn't that nice?)
Plushie Foxie (Bought by myself, for myself)
Hand made bracelet (I forget who it was, but "Thank you!")
Two days worth of exhaustion at home
Now the con is over, I'm another year older, and now, of all things, I hear Silver was autographing posters, and I missed out!
Now I'm all sad and depressed.

FWA 2015!
Posted 10 years agoSo! Among about a dozen or so others, I helped FWA load up last night. I got a chance to get a sneak peek at some of the theme and decor.
I think y'all are in for a real treat this year. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

FWA 2015!
Posted 11 years agoSo! FWA 2015 is just a couple short months away! This will be my first fur-con, and I'm already excited. I've already talked to a couple of you awesome furs, and I'm looking forward to meeting many more.
I live about an hour NE of Atlanta, and I'm too far away to use mass transit, so I'll be driving my Suburban. Right now I have 2 others planning to rideshare with me. I still have room for more (It's a Suburban!). Message me if interested.
I also have a room booked from Thursday night to Sunday morning, and as of this writing I do not have anyone committed to sharing it with me (I did have a couple inquiries, though). I do have 1 or 2 tentatively wanting to share. I'm pretty easy-going, and asking $120/person (plus any room expenses you incur). I'll follow up if and when I get a full room. If interested, message me.
Chances are I'm going to use the room for showers and sleep only; I'm likely going to be busy with the con (depends who rooms with me).
Anyone have any advice or insight as to what I should do to prepare for my first fur-con ever?
