Streams pending until new stylus. Possibly offline coms
Posted 11 years agoI decided to temporarily suspend the livestreams until the new stylus is there.
I'll try to relax a bit in the meanwhile, but I may open a batch of offline commissions tomorrow to help pay for the new styluses. I'm potentially thinking discounted 20-25$ flat colors(the discount being from me having to work on the old intuos tablet).
Expect more news tomorrow. If I do, it will be a limited queue.

Today's stream cancelled
Posted 11 years agoDue to the technical issues with my now nonfunctional stylus, the streams for today is cancelled.
I'll be taking the day to relax a bit and try to decide what to do until the new stylus gets here, especially since the last week has been most stressful with things like my grandmother's stroke on one side and other things on the other. I've reinstalled the old intuos tablet on my laptop, but getting used to it again after so long on a screen tablet is a bit of a struggle and performances feels inneficient as I feel like I'm going over my lines over and again more than I spend actually sketching them.
Just a bit of an update to keep you folks up to date. Instead of streams, I may offer discounted flat color sketches or traditional works in the meanwhile until the new styluses gets here(which -should- be only 1 or two days, but I don't want to take chances with this and prefer to have plans just in case).
Stylus not responding...
Posted 11 years agoI was working on a picture today and I started to notice some jerkiness with my stylus.
I tried to plug it in, figuring it was the battery though I frequently kept it plugged in normally when not in use.
A moment ago, it stopped being able to detect anything. At all.
I plugged it in, just in case it's the battery and it shows as charging for a few second then the light goes out.
I'm a bit worried, maybe it's nothing bad... but I will see tomorrow. I've already ordered a second pen from monoprice. I really really really hope it's just something like the battery just needing to recharge and the light going out is just a bad connector or something. But now I am heavily worried about my ability to do digital art if my stylus indeed just died on me.
A secondary backup stylus has been ordered anyway, just in case. But if something indeed die, I sincerely hope that is indeed the stylus and not the tablet's own ability to actually detect one.
So really do not want to deal with this today. Last week was extremely slow with higher expenses than expected. My only/main income dying on me is really what I want to deal with right now.
Edit:
Decided to order two pens. Just in case.
But sincerely, I am praying that whatever issue this might be is indeed just the pen if it is indeed more than just a case of the battery not having been as charged than I thought.
Especially as this is a level of expenses, with expenses I had to deal with last week, that I really would have preferred not to do.
I will try to see if my brother's printer's scanner work, in case I do need to find another option to produces commissions because, seriously, I will need the money.

05/25/14-Sunday Papers 6: Don't Piss off the Saw Doctor
Posted 11 years agoEdit: Adjusted slightly this monday's schedule.
As usual, a new sunday and a new journal!
The news
The week.... has been busy. Couple of things in real life, but the most important and worrisome was that my grandmother has suffered a stroke during the week. She is well again, and is recovering, but this was a rough hit for the family. On this side of the family we have already lost one of my aunt and a grandfather both of whom we loved dearly. Excluding my grandmother, the only people left in my mother's family are my mother herself and her brother with whom she has only begun to reconcile herself despite a conflict between the two which lasted almost half a decade. This has meant a lot of stress and has been in part why I had to cut my stream short this last thursday.
On a brighter even if minor note, Adventures in Otter week was still nonetheless mildly successful in term of commissions and productive in term of art in general with two digital paintings completed(one of which still needs to be posted).
Etiquette and not pissing off the Saw Doctor
This might seem like an odd title or expression, but it has a fair bit of meaning to me.
My father, as it stands, is a self-employed worker. An artisan even, in many a fashion. This wasn't always the case as he once held a corporate job for a long time, but for at least a dozen of the years I'd spent living with my parents before moving on to live in an apartment, the main income that put food in our plate was my father's independent job,
As it's stand, his thing was to make tools used in timbersport contest. He's still doing it. And he's still successful at it.
This may seem again a bit random but there is still a point for which I'm saying this.
The "saw doctor" is a nickname that has been given to him at times in the timbersport community due to his skills at making and repairing saws that are frequently used in contests where a difference of an hundreth of seconds can mean the differences between sawer.
One of the unofficial rule within the lumberjack community?
You don't piss off the saw doctor. His job takes a while, he has a queue to go through and his work is in demand. Want one of his saw? Get in the queue like everyone else. He has been in such demand that at times this queue can reach two years of wait.
Because his tools have been this good.
People needs his saw more than he needs the abuses of those who may want to attack him or cross him.
And this is something I wish to communicate to some people who commission artists but throw entitled fits at some of them. The people who wishes to criticizes the prices of an artist whose only income is their art. Or those who don't understand that a queue is a queue and that no amount of cajolling, harassment or passive aggressive comments will allow them to jump said queue. And that's not mentionning those who are trying to get an artist to draw a subject which she isn't comfortable with.
When you hire an artist, you hire them for their skills. Sure, some are unprofessional about it. Which is why you can simply "vote with your feet" and decide to support other artists. And you know the fun part with this? You don't have to attack the artist or harass them to do this.
But most artist that I personally know try to be professional about the art they produces, -I- try to be professional about it, even when I think I could do better. And when I think so.... I try to to better next time.
But at the end of the day when someone hire an Artist they hire them for their services. What they are not, is hiring a servant. If someone hire an artist it is because they can't or won't draw something themselves. And at the end of the day. most of these people thus needs the artist's skills more than the artists needs their potential harassment or abuse.
This is something I've learned over drawing commissions, sometimes I wished I'd learned it sooner. And seeing some other artists I know, it's a message I wanted to pass along.
An abusive commissioner is not something you need as an artist. No matter how much they pay. They sap your motivation, your will. And with those two, eventually sap at your skill and productivity as an artist altogether. And at this cost, they need your art more than you need them.
When you learn to cast away such people, even if it seems at the monetary cost of their business, you learn that those who remain... the commissioner who knows that etiquette and professionalism is a two-way street, will generally still continue to support you. And you will know that having polite and supporting fans and commissioners will be more profitable for you in the long run as you see your craft flourish from their support. And sometimes? That results in -more- business than if you'd continued taking business from an abusive commissioner. Simply said, an artist who loves what they produces will generally produces better art and sometimes even will make people think of you as more of a professional.
And generally, better art will results in more clients wishing to hire you for -your- skills. Rather than hiring you because you happen to be the only one who'll put up with their abuse.
And if you get such success... you can bet the abusive clients will sometimes regret not being able to get -your- work.
I know one of my father's ex-client is still trying his best to find secondhand saws made by my father, half a decade after he made the mistake of pissing off the Saw Doctor who will never take any orders from him again. Because my father knew the man needed his saws more than he needed the disrespect and breach of trust from that man.
Tea-time with Kaijus
..... is next week's theme. Inspired by the new Godzilla movie, recent Kaiju craze and Kerberos Productions' own Kaiju-a-Go-go project( https://www.kickstarter.com/project.....s/kaiju-a-gogo ) on one side, and a discussion involving tea on the other I have decided upon next week's theme,
As already stated, teatime with Kaijus. Commissions unrelated will still be most welcome, however!
This said, commissions involving the "teatime" scenes, such as friends sharing tea, or involving giant monsters(or both!) will be receiving a discount.
Similarly, during the week as any last weeks I will be working on a digital painting based upon that theme in-between commissions. Which painting as usual will be used to advertise the stream.
Livestream Schedule for 05/26-05/30
Week's theme: Tea-time with Kaijus
This week, I will celebrate this most refined tradition that is sharing a cup of tea between friends. Because tea is awesome and good for your health, while in the same time celebrating these most dignified gentlemonsters known as kaijus. After all, after destroying tokyo for the eleventh time, even Godzilla needs a cup of tea to kick back and relax.
As such, this week commissions with either or both of those themes(friends sharing tea, or general tea appreciation, and Kaijus) will be elligible for a 10% discount :)

Last day of "Adventures in Otter Space!"
Posted 11 years agoI will be streaming tonight from 7h30pm(a small adjustment to 11pm EST. As such, tonight will be the last day in "Adventures in Otter Space" week.
This mean, if you're one of those looking for a discount for a commissions involving science-fiction or otter characters(who are not obliged to be related to scifi!), today is the last day in the week to do so! Next week will be another theme to be announced this Sunday!
Remember, the livestream is at Picarto: https://www.picarto.tv/live/channel.....watch=Ludocrow
I've heard the chat can be unstable, so you may wish to try relogging back in if you can't be heard. This said, these issues have led me to decide to attempt creating a Tigerdile account this weekend to hopefully be able to use next week. I've heard a lot about the Tigerdile crew and so far they seem to offer awesome service.

05/21/14-Crow Papers: Midweek Update 1
Posted 11 years agoEdit: Just a small edit to warn of the possibility of another delay with tonight's stream due to late dinner stuff. Expect the stream to start only at 8h00pm=8h30pm EST tonight, and possibly last until 11h00-11h30pm as a result.
News
Just a bit of a midweek update.
So far "Adventures in Otter Space!" has been going very decently. It's been an enjoyable early week so far. A bit slow but then again it hasn't been entirely devoid of commissions.
This said I've found plenty of time to already complete one digital painting this week, which you can see here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13517604/
That is very good for me, because three weeks ago, after completing the swamp wolf picture, I made the decision and resolution to finally truly find a way to complete at least one of those every single weeks. And so far for three weeks in a row I have succeeded as I am left standing with the original Swamp Wolf picture: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13428597/ (warning rated mature even if some said it warrant a lower rating), "Dungeons&Werewolves" from last week's theme: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13468276/ and finally this week's digital painting, the fore-mentionned "Aventures in Otter Space!" I have already linked to :) .
More awesome, this week I still have 3 full days left to possibly crank out more to go with this week's theme. So, potentially, expect more otters and aliens in my personal art this week :)
As a bonus, finishing this week's digital painting leaves me plenty of time to figure out another theme I will enjoy working on for next week.
Oh, also, here's the livestream schedule for the rest of this week:
Livestream Schedule
Week's theme: Adventures in Otter Space!
This week, non-sketch commissions for adorable otters or works of space-future science-fiction are 10% off. This mean that my hourly rate for such commissions will be of 22.50$ instead of 25$ per hours.

The news
Busy day was busy. My mother has had a a lot of a stressful week at a new job she is only now starting to realizes she hate which, combined to stuff she's had to deal with a home, led me and my roomate deciding to invite her today for dinner so that for a day after her work she has to worry about nothing else than enjoying herself.
Back to art and commissions, Dungeon&Werewolves week has been most satisfying. Though business was still a bit slower than I would have liked getting commissions from new clients and working on subjects I actually enjoy was most satisfying. And, I must admit, this is why I does these discounted theme weeks: to reward people for allowing me to draw subjects I enjoy and wishes to draw. Tablet is continuing to holds -very- nicely, which is most satisfying and has made me feel validated in my decision to order this monoprice tablet back in december 2013 after much stress and worries in tech issues-riddled March and April(ontop of other things). For the time being, in a fashion.... I am now content.
On a sidenote, I brought up a small tweak to this week's schedule. Thursday's stream has been moved from the evening to the afternoon due to a potential activity this week(and possibly others) which I may attend and to compensate friday's stream has been moved from the afternoon to the evenning.
As for this week's livestream's theme, I am hoping for a most humorous and adorable theme with "Adventures in Otter Space", in honor of those bundles of elemental joys that are otters.
Kickstarters:
I've been following a couple of kickstarters lately and wishes to share them with folks:
Kaiju-a-Gogo: https://www.kickstarter.com/project.....s/kaiju-a-gogo
First is Kaiju-a-Gogo.
"Like Evil XCOM meets Evil Genius. With Kaijus".
A world domination game where you'll play a mad scientist out to conquer the world with the giant monster they have grown in their lab in a game inspired by XCOM's tactical combat and strategic map.
Kerberos Productions are a game studio I've been following since many years now and whom I greatly enjoy. In a time where now many people complains(and that is sometimes an euphemysm...) about disapointing outcome of high-funding kickstarters which seems to never go out of Early Access(when they get released at all), Kerberos is now at their third Kickstarter game and have been able to not only release their first game despite a goal which originally was not met on Indiegogo, but are now at the third DLC for it.
And their second project(despite, again, not meeting goal on indiegogo) is now about to go out of Early access in a matter of weeks.
Where others have failed in the eyes of others despite highly successful funding, Kerberos has managed to deliver even when it seemed failure would be the only result(though it also helps that indiegogo allowed for funding to be received even when the goal wasn't met).
Now they're trying again for a third time, with a new intelectual property which, I believe, has the potential of being a new "Sword of the Star: The Pit" in terms of success.
Oh, also, it has already hinted that their game studio will totally be one of the landmarks that players will be able to destroy in the game(alongside with the rest of Vancouver).
Universim: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...../?ref=kicktraq
It's hard to say what I think of this one, especially with the high level of it's goal, but it has a most promising presentation. Personally, I am left wondering if this might not finally be "Spore done right" though other people think that it instead looks like a most promising successor to "Populous"

It's hard to say what I think of this one, especially with the high level of it's goal, but it has a most promising presentation. Personally, I am left wondering if this might not finally be "Spore done right" though other people think that it instead looks like a most promising successor to "Populous"

Could this be Spore done good? Also Popup Dungeons
Posted 11 years agoKickstarter with 6 days left and already 80% funded:

Edit: Also, there are only 3 hours left on Popup Dungeon's multiplayer roguelike(with asynchronous multiplayer Dungeon Master gamemode)'s kickstarter and they're only 2k away from the stretch goal that would allow them to contract a third party to more quickly implement a Wii U version of their game(and let's admit it, the gamepad would be -terrific-, for something like Dungeon Master mode).

Reminder: Last Dungeons&Werewolves stream today!
Posted 11 years agoDungeons and Werewolves stream reminder:
This is just a reminder that today, between 12pm and 4pm EST(possibly later), will be the last stream of Dungeons&Werewolves. So if you want to commission fantasy or werewolves artwork and have access to that 10% discount, today is your last chance!
Remember, the stream will be on my picarto Channel: https://www.picarto.tv/live/channel.....watch=Ludocrow
Next week's theme will be: Adventures in Otter Space!
Possible stream service change in the next month:
This said, I'm slowly considering a move to Tigerdile after some tech issues with the chat that were reported to me by a commissioner who was unable to send his message through or appear logged in for everyone else.
Unless I can find a new drafting job(an endeavor which seemed promising recently but ultimately in vain), commissions are my only source of income so it is important to me to make sure I can offer clients, potential or confirmed, with the best service to make communication as seamless as possible. And so far, based on the experiences of aquaintances, it sound like Tigerdile might be the site which would offer me the best service. I will not make the switch right away, but it is a jump I am considering later this month as they seem to be the better managed site sofar amongst the independent streaming sites.
Remember: Space Engineers Saturday is tomorrow!
Just a small reminder, but for those who haven't fell on http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13470525/ or previous announcement, tomorrow I will be hosting the first of(hopefully many) saturday Space Engineers gaming sessions on Steam.
For those who don't know the game, it's basically a very pretty minecraft(with functionalities normally found only in mods) in space where you mine asteroids for ores that can be refined in components to assemble your own spaceships and space stations.
You can learn more about the game here on it's Steam store page http://store.steampowered.com/app/244850 and if you are interested in joining, the Steam group is here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Sp.....neersSaturdays

New Kickstarter: "Like Evil XCOM meets Evil Genius".
Posted 11 years ago... with Kaijus(-as- the Kaiju).
https://www.kickstarter.com/project.....s/kaiju-a-gogo
It's a new game being Kickstarted by Kerberos Productions. Kerberos' mainly been known for their Sword of the Stars franchise, a scifi series of 4X grand strategy games but in recent years they ave taken a turn at independent game development and publishing thanks to Kickstarter.
As such, in the case of this kickstarter I would easily claim they are a good (game) investement as not only do Kerberos have firsthand professional game development experience(before "Sword of the Stars", members of their teams worked on Homeworld, and then later they formed the great majority of Cavedog studio who produced Homeworld: Cataclysm), they have also proven not once but twice that they can deliver kickstart projects.
First there was Sword of the Stars: The Pit( http://store.steampowered.com/app/233700/ ), an excellen roguelike dungeon crawler spin-off on their core franchise and universe which took the gameplay from the galaxy spanning wars of conquests to controlling a long member of one of the multiple playable races of their universe through a science-fiction dungeon crawling romp through the long forgotten death-traps riddled lab of an eldritch race.
The game was only partly funded on indigogo(since Indigogo allows for money to be sent even if goal is not met), but this not prevent them from finishing the game, which they did.
Ever since, it's been their best selling title in history with now 3 (very affordable) DLCs adding new characters and content to the game and occasionally made it amongst Steam's best sellers.
Then, more recently, there has been Panzer General-like Ground Pounders, an hex-based strategy game set again in the Sword of the Stars universe and meant to represent ground campaigns within the history of the setting. It's currently on early-access ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/267730/ ) and I've sadly only played a little of it. However, it should soon be nearing an official release and so far and has garnered some positive reactions on PC sites.
As such, Kaiju-a-gogo should be their first true foray outside of the Sword of the Stars franchise in almost a decade and already sound(in my opinion) conceptually pleasing.
I mean, how many game out there promises you to play a mad scientist with their personal pet Kaijus on a quest to conquer the world?
This said, I've rarely been disapointed by what Kerberos has produced so I hope to see this one be funded and released as well. They've now become a "sure value" in my eyes.

Tech update & new stuff
Welp, that's a late one for tonight. Mothers Day do that though and I'm perfectly fine with it.
First of all, as some who have followed me might already know of, I can finally attest that my technical issues with streaming are finally over. After a most satisfying public livestream this last saturday, streams where I need to reboot the stream due to memory leaks or abort the stream itself due to computer crashes are finally over.
Which makes me happy as I can finally get back to business proper without being held back by purely tech issues.
Now, you can now see I've brought some changes to this weekly journal post. First, until I get myself properly set up in my livestream commissions schedule, I have temporarily disabled Offline commissions.
Second is obviously the new addition of a livestream schedule and themed weeks.
As it stands(until I get a proper pricelist made for offline coms), themed week is a new addition that will be available to livestream commissions. As explained, every weeks I will have a given "theme". While I will draw more or less almost anything wants during a week(within my list do and don't), during themed weeks people who asks for commissions within the week's theme will have 10% off their livestream commission(applicable only to commissions of more than 30 minutes, thus those on which the hourly rate applies).
For a time, every week will present a new theme, but eventually(probably after around a month) some themes might become semi-reccuring.
Space Engineers Saturdays
I like Space Engineers. If you don't know what the game is, here's the steam store page for it:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/244850/
Basically, it's minecraft in space with very nice graphics, an awesome block destruction and distortion engine and (even though it's still in alpha) with content that comparable to stuff found only in some minecraft mods(I'm talking being able to build your own spaceships, conveyor belts, rotors and other complex mechanisms).
And basically, I'm thinking of creating a weekly gaming session on a survival server I will be hosting every saturdays which will be temporarily open to all until filled at capacity(I'm looking toward a 8 players server, at least until dedicated servers are in).
It's a fun game, and extremely well supported by it's devs with a new content patch nearly every thursday(so a saturday stream being a couple days later would give time for bugs hotfix patches to go out before the gaming session).
I have created a group for the event, so people interested in joining the event and sessions are welcomed to join the group :)

It's currently a bit barebone, but will be progressively updated with more informations as the week progresses.
PC(potentially Wii U) team roguelike on Kickstarter
Posted 11 years ago... and it's almost already fully funded:
https://www.kickstarter.com/project...../popup-dungeon
Quite interesting of this one is the the Dungeon Master options which I feel could be a -great- fit for a potential Wii U port for this game. I can already imagine the dungeon master holding the gamepad to manipulate the dungeon and it's denizens while players control the other characters.
It's very close to goal, so it might be interesting to give this one the final nudge it requires to meet success. I'm very eager to see what will results out of this one with all the promises of customization included in it.
On a similar gaming-related(but not kickstarter related, for now) subject but for a different project:
Do you like Kaijus? Do you feel there is a dearth of games that allows you to play city-rampaging monsters?
Do you like XCOM?
Do you wishes, somehow, there was a game out there which would allow you to mix together these two things?
Then Kaiju-a-gogo, an upcoming new IP from Kerberos productions(known for the 4X Sword of the Stars strategy games and their roguelike spinoff SOTS: The Pit and Panzer Generals-like Ground Pounders) might be the thing for you:
https://twitter.com/SolForce/status.....36655662583808
https://twitter.com/SolForce/status.....33833841639424
https://twitter.com/SolForce/status.....28077518237696
Little is known about it sofar, but it claims to promises something "Like XCOM with Kaijus" as you would play rival mad scientists bent on ruling the world via the power of mad science(and giant rampaging monsters).
While I haven't played Kerberos' Ground pounders so much, I have been a longtime fan of their 4X Sword of the Stars series(despite a controversial release with their second game, their last publishers-backed title) and greatly enjoyed their takes on the roguelike genre with the Pit(seriously, if you enjoy the concept of roguelikes but are still searching for a more accessible take on the formula, I highly reccomend to search for Kerberos's "The Pit" on Steam or GoG.com).
And so far, I have little indications to tell me this will be any different in term of quality.

Public livestream test tomorrow!(And Space Engineers)
Posted 11 years agoJust a head's up that tomorrow, I will be running a public livestream between 1pm and 5pm EST.
Not that I -will- be taking commissions, unless the stream crashes on me. However, with this week's tests, I am very hopeful that this will not happen.
Afterward. livestream schedule should resume from monday to friday afternoons. I will give an announcement with the exact schdule come sunday.
On a similar subject, I'm thinking of hosting a weekly game session of Space Engineer ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/244850/ ) for people who own the game and are interesting in playing it multiplayer.
This server probably would end up using survival rules and I'm thinking of trying to host 8-10 players if my PC can somehow pull it off(though if there's too much lag, I may have to lower the player count).
I hope to make this pretty open and sandbox, so players would be allowed to do pretty much what they want within limits.

New furry(?) indie "JRPG" on kickstarter. Has good graphics
Posted 11 years agoIt's actually french, but also has anthropomorphic animals in it(though this seem common of many french, even nonfurry, works)!
https://www.kickstarter.com/project.....269196/shiness
I'll admit, I'm still unsure what to think of some of the character designs(a lot of the characters, when they seem to go for a more "D'aaaawww-dorable" design seems pretty good but some others they seem to have tried to make the characters "edgy" for the sheer sake of being edgy and... not succeeded that well I feel).
This said, for an indie-title, the graphics and tech in general seems surprisingly good so I thought I'd share.

Tablet news is good news
Posted 11 years agoSo, yesterday I finally ran a test stream with my tablet's new drivers to see if the good impressions I had on the new drivers' performances offstream would continue to translate in good performance while streaming as well.
So, using my laptop(traditionally the most unstable of my two platforms) I streamed for 2 to 3 hours without a single crash and without any single noticeable slowdown or cursor lags with the tablet, keeping the almost 1:1 accuracy which had pleased me with this tablet in it's normal work cirsconstances throughout it all.
I think I can call this a success then.
I do not know yet if I will run an official stream yet today, as I will still have a small test to perform on my desktop computer(to determine if I need to reformat it or not like I had with the laptop when it last crashed) but after this test is done and the proper course of action decided.... I think I can finally calll this the end of my technical issues.
With this and was sounded like a promising job offer nearby to which I sent an application yesterday, I feel pretty good, I don't know if I will be called back, but sincerely... yesterday I tasted the new beer at a local microbrewery with visiting friends, today is a sunny day like we had not had in weeks, I'vehad a great breakfast this morning and I have fixed technical issues that had held back with my artwork and commission business throughout the last two weeks... so even if I'm not chosen I still have a lot of good thing to comfort myself with, especially since it's not the only place which might ever need people with drafting experience.
After falling in a burnout and depression for most of the last two months because of a variety of reasons, it feels good to just feel alive again.

It's also there so that, currently, there is some negotiating room for the commissioner depending on their payment capacity.
The future visual pricelist model should be more detailed, with means to determine the adjustment required by the likes of background and such. However, until this model is ready, this is the list I currently have.
Tablet News and Streaming
People who've been following my technical woes might be happy to hear that the tablet now functions like a wonder as I have spent the last days working on offline commissions everytime I could while at the same time running many technical tests with the tablet offline.
What I can say is that, offstream, the 19-inch Monoprice Pen Display functions perfectly with great performances under the new Windows drivers.
As I've also had to deal with Spring Cleanup and relocating some stuff from one room to another, I haven't had much time to do much livestream testing. Especially since a certain amount of time I had dedicated to the tablet was to be dedicated to Offline commissions.
This said, now that I've gone through my queue, I now have more time to run livestream tests of the tablet under it's new drivers and if I am to base myself on my experiences so far, I can safely say I am very hopeful.
Once I'm done with these bout of private testing, expect me to finally write a proper review of the Monoprice tablet for those interested in yet another alternative to Wacom's Cintiq.

(AIM related) Small notice to folks and commissioners
Posted 11 years agoJust a small notice to everyone who had me in their contacts on AIM, but I'm currently unable to log on there since a couple of days.
Long story told short, when I reformated my laptop, I had to reinstall AIM on it(obviously).
However, after reinstalling I realized I've forgotten my password to access the service, and I've been unable to log on there ever since.
So as an head's up, folks who might wish to contact me there might be best to use Skype. I'd just felt I'd give everyone a notice since I've already had one commissioner with whom communications had to be moved to Skype in such a manner because of this situation.

Spring Cleaning(Edit: Update)
Posted 11 years agoEdit: Done cleaning! It took me almost all of the day.... but after almost one year spent here, with boxes still unpacked since May 2013 and with all the other crap that can accumulate somewhere over a year...
... I finally feel like I can finally call this my home. It took a while, there is still a lot of job to do... but at least for the time being I can finally reached a state where I can say I currently feel "content" about where I currently live.
It kind of feel weird to say that when we're going to be actually nearing summer-like weather for a lot of people in the US, but today here in Quebec marks the very first day where it's actually starting to -feel- like spring.
Especially so after a winter that seemed like it would never end in March and a good part of April where ultimately temperature quickly warmed up but only to rapidly give way to grey skies and cool temperature when it wasn't outright raining all day.
Also, come the end of this month it will have been one year since I've moved from an apartment to an house me and my brother bought together. And despite having been there for one year, there are still some of my things which remains in boxes that I have yet to finish unpacking either in full or just partly so.
While I'm still slowly working on my commission, I figure it's thus as good as any days to pull up my sleeve and do not only some cleaning in my personal space, but also some reordering. To separate those things which are still useful or relevant whether old or new, from those whose relevancy has long since passed or to which less pleasant memories are tied to.
And most importantly, I'm trying to turn my space into someplace I can truly feel proud of and reconize myself in, rather than the disorder I've grown to associate with this last year since we moved in here and before the move itself.
I don't know if this will help me that much, but I now know since a while that it's very hard to ever find comfort or be able to truly relax in discomfort.

Tablet and news
I can say the last week has been a bit busy. The first half of the week saw me hit by one of the biggests colds I'd had in a longest while and a crash while trying to use my new tablet on my laptop(without even streaming) which forced me to reformat the laptop. Also found myself having to receive guests a couple of times during the week.
During the second half of the week, I've been mostly busy dealing with the aftermath of tech issues, as I tried to put back my laptop in working order. I mused the idea of reinstalling my old wacom intuos tablet on it for a while, in the idea of possibly making it a streaming rig but finally decided against it.
This said, when went to downloads the driver for my monoprice tablet, I found out that on the 29th of april they finally updated the drivers which before then had been last updated only back in october 2013.
As of now, I now finally have a proper dual screen support with my tablet which I had been lacking when I had originally received it, and I can confirm a much greater stability when doing artwork in regular condition after thorough testing.
Pretty much, I am now satisfied enough of it's performances in normal conditions that I feel confident enough to test my tablet with my laptop for private test streams to see if it remains so stable in streaming conditions or if it will buckle up like it used to.
The laptop will be an excellent test bed for such as, before it's reformating, it was the most unstable of my two computer as a streaming platform and even when it came to regular art(the crash which forced me to reformat it happened when I was using my tablet outside of streaming).
If Streaming performances are satisfactory, I may prepare the desktop for a similar reformating and then resinstalation of the tablet with the updated drivers. So I'll be crossing my fingers on that.
Art Practice and Pricelist
As it happened, I didn't had as much time to focus on creating the pricelist as I wanted, though I've slowly made some progresses on it. This said, the thorough experimenting with the tablet and trying to get the most of it with the new drivers to test it's capabilities in varied situations or using different(sometimes more ressources-intensive) tools has given me plenty of time to practice art, and thus to experiment with varied techniques. While I'm not decided yet if I'll fully return to a pricelist based system instead of time based for livestreams such probably won't happen until I have a thorough and extremely detailed pricelist model ready. In the meanwhile, when I'm streaming I'm experimenting as said with varied techniques and checking how much time different techniques, levels of drawings/paintings or different subjects take me to complete as I slowly try to decide upon the prices that would be associated for each.
In the end, I would like such a pricelist to be able to cover not only different levels and types of drawings, but also cover adjustments for time-intensive subjects as covered by backgrounds, characters requiring extra-details more than normal due to either outit, equipment or anatomy and so on and to basically have visual examples for the whole of it for commissioner's refference.

No Princess in the Castle: Synopsis
Beyond the social mythology of women who game as being soft, passive little girls in pastel clothes, often marginalized by the media, viewed as a half-life incarnations, stands a group of women -real women- who game and whose efforts and contributions throughout all aspects of the industry, past and present, have created a powerful momentum that can no longer be ignored. From the producers of The Video Craze, Dave Danzara and Natalie Rossetti of White Willow Films, comes a new documentary on the lives of women in gaming who, against all odds, punched through the peripheral shadows and entered the gaming world center stage. Hailing from various States across America, from programmers to professional competitors, the voices of these women bring a side to gaming never brought into focus before. Filled with insightful interviews, No Princess in the Castle lends a sensitive yet informative look into the feelings that compel the gamer to game, the programmer to create dreams that provoke emotion, all the while opening the door on the world of gaming from personal perspectives via a spectacular cast of supportive contributors. Ohai, Manga Studio 5 for 19$ on Amazon!
Posted 11 years agoAs seen on Twitter:

"FRENDEN @FRENDEN 52 min
Manga Studio 5 is on sale on Amazon for $19. Grab it if you haven't. Hands-down my favorite drawing app. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0.....EVV4FWZFWDWJ6S "
I'll note Frenden is a professional artist who may also be known for the custom brush sets he produced for not only for Manga Studio software but also photoshop, alongside the many reviews he has written on many graphic tablets models: http://frenden.com/
Personally, I'd reccomend Manga Studio 5 as a software. Using many of Frenden's brushes, it's let me pretty much more or less replace Corel Painter for a much lower cost.

Tablet News
Posted 11 years agoSo!
Some news on my Monoprice 19-inch Pen Display but basically Monoprice has finally just released new drivers for Windows users.
I've just installed those new drivers on my recently formated laptop today. While I can't exactly say much about stability because I've lacked time to attempt proper art with it,
However, for windows users who were considering to get the tablet someday, I can confirm that proper dual screen support is now finally in :)
More about this as I experiment more with it.
