Scanner down!!!
General | Posted 13 years agoAfter 5 years of pulling double duty as a combination printer-scanner, that particular desktop device has died on me.
The good news is that it coincided quite nicely with my tax return. So there's a new one on the way.
Folks waiting with (mastur)bated breath for new arts from me will have to wait about a week or so until the new scanner comes in.

NO COMICS, though. Maybe at some point in the future, but they're what burned me out so much last time.
It's been a long time since I've done this--partly because I got burned out on multipage comic commissions, partly because I couldn't handle the workload, and partly because some guy died before paying me the $170 bill for his commission.
But my income for the next few months is going to be lower, and I could really use the extra cash.
Those prices seem pretty reasonable? I know some pencil artists charge less, but for the time I put into them, this amount makes it worthwhile for me.

Troodons
General | Posted 13 years agoHave you heard about these guys? I first read about them in a Dinotopia book, but stumbled across them in a wiki chain earlier today.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troodon
Highest brain-to-body ratio of the dinosaurs. (Six, SIX TIMES higher than any other dinosaur)
Binocular Vision
Possible Low-light vision
Hind-foot Raptor claws
and on their forearms?
OPPOSABLE THUMBS!
There, but for a massive comet, go our great, great granddaddies.

Working it
General | Posted 13 years agoWork has been killer lately, but I'm getting back int the swing of drawing.
Cranking out a few drawings over the course of a few days has reminded me how goo it feels to create, and how every drawing helps me refine some technique or learn something new.

General | Posted 14 years agoI hate working digitally. I have some kind of mental block on it where after every successful line, I break away in disgust, then come back to it.
I'm coming up with a hundred reasons to hate it, but I really need to learn to do it.

Job Shifting/Exciting New Developments!
General | Posted 14 years agoMy work schedule is shifting up over the course of the next month or so, and may remain on reduced hours. Thus, i need to find a way to supplement my income for a bit.
What does this mean for you?
It means that within the next week or so, I'll probably be opening up commissions again.
It also means that I'm going to be working harder with colors to provide another art option for commissioners.
Also on the table is perhaps putting together a TF-comic bundle for a set price.
I'm excited--are you excited?

Pokemon Encounters
General | Posted 14 years agoSo Pokemon Black and White is a solid game. Are there problems? Yes--not being able to plant your own berries, and a higher difficulty curve are among them. But they are outweighed by the pluses--faster graphics, interesting plot, and post-game play that goes beyond beating the Elite.
The Dream World is fun, albeit limited. The 1 hour every 24 hours is particularly irksome, but given the nature of online gaming and the number of kids that play it, it's not too surprising. Actually, to the end of keeping kids from getting glued to the computer, it's a fairly responsible mechanic to institute.
Global Trading, the negotiation aspect of it, is neat. You trade in real time, using a set of four emotes to show whether you like, dislike, are excited, or in love with that they put up. So far I've got a Japanese eevee and a shiny Audino <3<3<3
Global battle has been a suck fest. Not because of the system or the game. I can't fault Nintendo's new online wireless matchup system. No, I'm just having a bitch of a time battling. I don't mind losing to someone with a stronger set of pokemon, or even a complex strategy. I don't like it, but I'm not going to ragequit. However, I've so far been denied 3 wins because of people dropping the game before they lose. In one scenario just as his last pokemon fainted. I know this isn't a new phenomenon, but when I'm playing Halo, at least, folks who drop games as they're about to quit are penalized in terms of the points they earn and how quickly they can queue up again. Pokemon's a pretty simple system in terms of win/loss. Would it be that hard to code a win/loss drop contingency based on the number of pokemon left standing on either side?
Sorry about that last big rant. I really am enjoying the game. Just frustrated with this particular aspect of it.
Also, I miss having a pokemon follow me around.

Taki Watersports TG bodystickerDreamworld! Pokemon!
General | Posted 14 years agoI Finally got in to the Dream World in Pokemon Black & White! http://en.pokemon-gl.com/
And it's surprisingly fun--my only complaint, I guess, is the 1-hour time limit imposed by the site, and then the 24-hour limit imposed by the game.
To clarify:
- Every 24 hours you can put a pokemon to bed in your DS.
- Once it's asleep, you can enter the flash-based Dream World from your real-life computer.
- However, you can only explore the dream world for an hour before it kicks you off.
Which is fine because there's less-than an hour's worth of stuff to do in the dream world. (IMPORTANT NOTE - When exploring the dream forest, always click "Return to Home" before your ten steps run out, and make sure you've completely cleared your forest.)

Digital Pads
General | Posted 15 years agoI've been wanting a digital tablet I can digitally draw on for a while now. The wacom bamboo just isn't working for me--my brain just can't wrap around the concept of drawing and looking up at the screen.
For sheer simplicity's sake, I'm considering an iPad and a third-party stylus. It's portable, it has internet, and I can see what I'm drawing on. It's a little pricy, but less so than Wacom's stuff.
Any input/advice?

I have so much trouble trying to understand layers in photoshop.
I guess more specifically, I can't understand how to change between layers in photoshop elements, and can't FIND my layers in Corel.

I've been going through youtube videos and I can't understand the whole layer thing. Everyone just moves to the damn coloring, and I have NO idea what's going on. No one bothers to explain HOW exactly, they're painting behind their lines.
Can anyone point me to a good youtube video series, or even just a web page that says in text, step1, 2, 3, etc?

The Thought Police
General | Posted 15 years agoI'm always upset at restrictions on freedom of speech and the policing of ideas.
I'm not saying I'm for cub art. I'm going to say right now that I am not a pedophile.
However, what I AM going to say is that I believe that originally-created pictures, as well as text, are the distillation of ideas. Any given piece of art is the artist's attempt to create something on a page that encapsulates an idea.
Whether or not you agree with that idea is really up to you. For all the socio/economic/political weight you may assign to an idea, it is a thought put to page. And it's probably the American upbringing, but the idea of someone telling me that I'm not allowed to have an idea, to express and share that idea, is horrendous.
This bizarre crackdown on various sites against fictional depictions reminds me of the Comics Code. Basically, "If you don't conform to our ideas of what you should be like, you're fucked." And the response is the same, "We'll police ourselves so that the idiots making the laws don't step in to enforce them as well."
I agree with the actions FA is taking. Conform or die. And in this case, survival seems the optimal route. This is, however, a concession to the moral majority, and I worry about a (not-so) distant future when the sponsors have a problem with furry porn in general. I worry that this is a step down a deviously slippery slope.
However, to the smug jackasses folding their arms, saying "I'm happy to see those undesirables go," I say "Fuck You." Because here come the ineffable "They" coming first for the cub porn artists. I wonder how many of you will still be smug when they come for the guro? When the pregnant porn, transformation, and bondage porn are dropped, how many of you will still stand, noses turned up, saying "Tut-tut"?

When the pregnant porn, transformation, and bondage porn are dropped, how many of you will still stand, noses turned up, saying "Tut-tut"?

Frogapus Lives
General | Posted 15 years agoAfter a long hiatus, I'm back with a few new tricks, some slightly-honed skills, and some new art supplies. I hope I'll be taking it up a notch.
However, I will be taking comics off the commissions list. I keep getting major art blocks when I consider doing a comic, so for now it's just regular pics. But commissions for those are back up and open.

Animals of Interest
General | Posted 15 years agoStill on Art hiatus, honing my skills.
Today I have meditated on the fundamental core of the universe while sitting in the lotus position under a waterfall. Tonight, I shall join the master in a masked panty-raid.
I bring you two animals of interest that I have found while perusing wiki, which produce varying degrees.
The Spotted Hyena
Females have an up-to six-inch clitoris, capable of erection, procreation, and urination. Spotted Hyena packs are matriarchies with submissive females licking the clitoris of the pack leader. Complete vaginal control allows female hyenas complete control during sex, not allowing males to mate with them unless the female desires it.

Garter Snake
Male garter snakes often exude male and female pheromones, attracting both males and females to a massive snake pile and use the resulting orgy to impregnate as many females as possible. The best thing is, the wiki article refers to these individuals as she-males.

The Spotted Hyena, in particular, seems to be living furry fetish fuel.

General | Posted 15 years agoTerribly bad form to go on hiatus so soon after moving, but my reasons are solid to me, and fairly important.
The quality of my art has been slipping.
So much so that even when I try to spend time on a piece, it takes a lot of tries to get to something that I'm not particularly pleased with.
Like this most recent piece: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4546239
Try flipping it mirror-style and you can see what I mean very easily.
My quality is currently shit. So I'm going to slow it down, work my way gradually through a piece and not rush it.
I think part of the reason I rushed is I'm a bit addicted to praise. I want to see views go up, and see rows of comments. Yes, I'm an egotist--the problem is that I'm not putting in the effort to be a justified egotist.
So I apologize for the delays--and those of you with outstanding commissions, I apologize, and understand if you want to withdraw your order, but I need the time to get better--and trust me, it'll be worth the wait.
I shall be training up in the mountains with a pervy, panty-stealing master.
Thanks,
--Frogapus
