Since my Cintiq 27QHD is broken and in for repairs I decided to buy the Wacom Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus (yes it has a long name lol) for my Surface Pro 3. I wanted something that was a little more responsive than the stock Surface Pro 3 pen. I did my first sketch with the new Wacom pen this evening and figured I would share my thoughts below.

Cons:
Does nothing/ zero, nada, to fix Ntrig pen wobble when drawing diagonally or drawing slowly. i Have found similar behavior on all surface devices so this is more of a Ntrig pen tech issue and not something wacom likely could not fix with this product so I can't fault Wacom here...................... It frustrates me quite a lot that this is still an issue that microsoft has not bothered to address. Apple uses an active pen stylus solution in their ipad pro pen without any issue. given we are on the 3rd generation of Ntrig pen plus the massive surface studio, I find it rather absurd the same issue continues to persist. i've used every generation of Surface product and as far as I've seen, this behavior is better but by only a tiny margin in the new surface devices. As a side note this is my personal opinion. I know this doesn't bother some people and I wouldn't discourage people from trying out a surface, but it drives me nuts. Specifically when animating it makes it extremely hard to zoom out and hammer in a layout and quickly refine details without forcing you to zoom in to avoid drawing useless squiggles.

Pros:
Reduced latency is noticeable in drawing. Drawing with this pen feels more immediate and responsive that the Stock SP3 pen. This one thing makes a more noticeable difference than I was expecting. The pen feels more like my Cintiq which is a huge deal for me because I frequently switch between the two devices. The pen also has a nice rubberized coating and has a more ergonomic slight triangular shape. This makes it more comfortable to hold for longer periods of time than the SP3 pen in my opinion

Meh:
Pressure sensitivity: the wacom pen actuates and starts drawing with less pressure than the SP3 pen. I personally like this lighter feel but the pressure curve feels more condensed with the majority of the sensitivity occurring at initial press. The SP3 pen feels more spread out allowing finer control over pressure. You can adjust a basic pressure curve in the surface app which helps but I think the SP3 pen still had a better overall pressure balance. I could probably go into a rant about pressure sensitivity numbers. in short, if you have more than 256 its enough in the vast majority of cases. its far more important to have good pressure curves than just raw numbers. in short the 256 vs 1024 vs 4096 pressure level argument is...mostly pointless XD

Conclusion: its a nice pen that increases ease of drawing. I would recommend it. Price is reasonable at $60. WIth this pen, I feel more accurate when sketching and can sketch a little quicker. my drawings feel more immediate which in turn, makes drawing on the surface more enjoyable. While the pen can't address the Wiggle issue, the quicker response makes it more easy to manage. Also the rubberized texture and slightly triangular pen shape feel much more comfortable. If you want to breath some more life into your surface or need a new pen to replace one you lost, I say go for it!

I hope this helps for anyone who may be considering this pen.

Happy Christmas FA!!

Seems like the only time I've written journals on here for the last year has been major holidays lol.

For all of you who are fans of my public pawoff series I have been working on a 2d animated sequence of frag fox pawing off. What little free time I have has been spent on that. Im hopeing to have most of my keyframes done shortly so it's moving aloing at a pretty good clip now. My ultimate goal is to turn this in to a flash game! ^___^ I may need help from some of you on FA when the project gets to that point.

I'm hoping to have some pencil tests up within a week from now. Until then Merry Christmas FA!!

A very merry Christmas to everyone out on FA!

Hi everyone! just wanna let ya know I'll be out of country for a bit on holiday, so no new smuts till i get back on the 30th XD

I'm currently in Mes Nil Amelot France just outside of the Paris International airport. About to catch a plane to Florence Italy for 3 days. From there its off to Tuscany for about a week, and finally on to paris for a few days before coming back home ^^

For those of you that are interested in helping to repeal proposition 8 at the ballot I am working with Courage Campaign here in Cali to accomplish that in 2010. An overwhelming majority of the states LGBT organizations and members now believe that 2010 is the best time to go back to the ballot.

We have teams setup throughout the state in most major counties and many smaller counties. I'm leading the Contra Costa County team and hope to have my team fully up and running by mid next week. Our primary work at the moment is canvasing (going door to door to talk with voters), tabeling in front of businesses (with their permission of course) and phone banking to reach voters over the phone.

I'm posting this here as I know many of you live in CA and have been affected in one way or another by prop 8. We need your help. If your not interested please pay this journal no mind, but if you are please contact me at Furfragged@gmail.com. Whatever county you are in I can place you with a nearby team or help you in starting one and get the necessary training to do so.

Any help people can offer is wonderful. Art, video, editing, sign making, what ever it is your willing to contribute we are more than happy to have your help.
