TMI Tuesday V2
Posted 9 years agoLast time was very embarassing, let's do it again !
I like how my plushies smell. They all come from the same factory, but depending on their fabric or how they were packed for shipping, they all have a different smell now.
For example, mr. Wolf smells like peanuts, mr. Gryphon smells like bread.
Feel free to ask stuff :3

Should I write a basic but detailed tutorial on animation ?
Posted 10 years agoI'm certainly no master at this since I just gathered info around the web and spent some time trying stuff on the software, and I know that Jasonafex already did one, but I find it lacking a few details and tricks that he obviously uses (maybe it's a secret :O).
Are some of you interested in a few "picture tutorial" series about animating still drawings in AE and Blender ?

[Smartbadge] Progress 04/02
Posted 10 years agoQuick progress update:
Farnell apparently doesn't know that mondays and tuesdays are work days. New components still not arrived.
Bought the only e-book reader I could find close to where I live: a French-designed (understand: shit) thing to probe the voltages and signals and luckily succeed in driving the panels.
Luckily components (FFC connector and SMPSes) will be here tomorrow.
Meanwhile I'm rotoscoping dicks and it's too much fun.

[Smartbadge] Progress 28/01
Posted 10 years agoStill no luck with the e-ink panel. I'm sending rand() to the i/o's like someone suggested. Here's what's happening:
- With a constant 3.3V supply, the panel does nothing. That's weird.
- With a 0V or a 3.3V supply through an internal pullup (~47k), the panel shows random lines or columns on power up. And only on power up. I can send anything later and it doesn't do a thing.
Capacitors, capacitors everywhere.
High voltages are super steady, and in the recommended ranges.
Asked the makers of the COGs for complete datasheets, even if the summaries are stating that 2.7 to 3.3V should be fine.
An important thing to note is that I NEVER got areas alone updated. Only either plenty of lines, or plenty of columns. So looking at the equivalent matrix schematic, that would mean that there's only either the source OR the gate voltage at once. I don't see that on the scope, so the mystery remains full :(
Thinking about starting to write the computer software to do something else and to get at least something done. Four days on the same stuff can't be good.

[Smartbadge] Progress 26/01 and troubles
Posted 10 years agoThought I was heading in the right direction with the display showing those columns.
That actually happened while it wasn't getting its logic power supply (oops), and somehow made the source drivers work. The gate drivers were all stuck "on".
Since I maybe fried the 3.3V i/o's, I swapped in another panel and now with the 3.3V supply I'm getting nothing except faint signs of activity on the source side. Nothing on the gate.
Scraped some of the protecting silicone on the side of the panel to access probe points, all signals are there...
If anyone has an idea what to do :|
Technical details:
Step-up: ok
Inverter: ok
Positive reg: ok
Negative reg: ok
Contrast reference: ok
Display driving: doing
USB: to do
Flash i/o: to do
Computer software: to do

[Smartbadge] Ordering parts
Posted 10 years agoIt's been a while since I last wrote about this project.
I didn't forget about it, it was just postponed due to not having a job since November and therefor not being able to order all the parts necessary to test the board layout :)
Now that things are starting to get better, I was finally able to order the new screens, new batteries and the solar panels (which maybe won't be used).
The price goal is still $60. I'll keep updating my journals with the project's status.

[Smartbadge] Final price, and what should I do ?
Posted 11 years agoFinal price without shipping: $50.
What do you get: A con badge made of a 6" 800x600 e-ink display sandwiched between transparent acrylic. At least 16 full-frame pictures can be stored via USB. Rechargeable battery, lasting enough for even a week-long convention.
More details ? Please see next journal.
To get a reasonable price on the parts and get the protos going, I need to advance at least the price of one badge.
If you are interested in getting such a badge:
Choice #1:
I try selling stuff/get a slave job/sell my body to earn the needed cash.
Good: No begging, no shame, no trust problems.
Bad: This can take > 1 month + another month to make and test the protos, then the final version.
Choice #2:
You can send me anything between $5 and $50 (or more if you want multiple badges) in advance.
Good: Gets things done way faster, get the badge or get a refund (thank Paypal).
Bad: You're giving $ to someone you don't know and have to wait 3~4 weeks to get the badge.
My Paypal address is furrtek/at/gmail.com
If you're willing to pay (part of) the badge in advance, please let me know who you are and give me your shipping address, so I can get organized.
THANKS
:3
EDIT: Someone paid enough to get things going !
But you can still "reserve" a badge by giving a few $ in advance, if you want it quick :)

Full-print custom clothing ?
Posted 11 years agoI want to make an EVA-01 hoodie. And plugsuit hoodies too.
Sublimation printing seems the way to go, but I can't find any company (even Chinese) which asks less than $80 for a fully printed sweatshirt.
Is that the regular "industry" price ? Am I missing something ?

Posted 11 years agoNew GameBoy game project
Posted 11 years agoIt's going to be a little DMG furry-themed puzzle/RPG tile-matching game in 32kB. Heavily inspired by Zoo Keeper, some RPG combat elements will be added to raise the game's interest and most importantly to allow for 2-player battles via the famous link cable :)
The project started about a week ago and already went along some distance.
The tile panel engine and intro sequences are done.
Battle animations, sound effects and 2P link code must be added.
The hardware prototypes (shells and boards) are already ordered, as manufacturing and shipping takes some time.
This means of course that some actual cartridges will be produced, and I'm posting about this project here on FA because I'd like to send some carts outside of France, this time !
Some gameplay footage and screenshots will be available in the following weeks.
I'm expecting to start taking orders at the beginning of April, the price excluding shipping will be around $25.
This is my second 32k GB project. I prefer keeping the first one aside, as it was my first try. The gameplay wasn't really up to it, the contents were quite provocative, and I had to sacrifice a bunch of Tetris carts to get their plastic shells. Nothing to be very proud of, even if it sold 80 copies ! So now, to make something better ;3
