We were in the Mardi Gras tonight, it was awesome!
This is our second year being in the parade.
We were marching with A Gender Agenda, and this year we were doing a Star Wars theme.
I went as a Wookiee, and my  Rahball went as a Nexu.
It was lots of fun! I've uploaded photos of us in our costumes too.

I decided to give Bioshock a second chance the other day, and this time I'm really enjoying it.
It just took a while to get into the vibe of it.
I'm pretty sure I'm more than half way through it now, though I may need to play it again because I've heard there are multiple endings.

Before Bioshock I was playing a lot of Mass Effect. I finished my second playthough at level 57 and the level 60 achievement sits there just out of reach, taunting me.
After starting a new career to try being a Paragon instead of a Renegade (Come to the Dark Side, we have cookies!), I went back to my old level 57 character and started grinding towards level 60. I got to level 59 before getting sick of that and moving on to Bioshock. I will come back and get that last 110K of experience eventually though.

There are too many good games to play! I don't know what I should get onto next after I'm done with Bioshock.

openCanvas1.1 b72 is my favourite digital art program and sometimes I feel a need to tell other people about how awesome it is.
This is one of those times...

Ways it is awesome:
It's free!
It's small!
It doesn't need to be installed!
It has the best pressure sensitivity response I've seen when working with a graphics tablet.
It isn't complicated by hundreds of tools and options that you never use.
It makes Event Files! *
It has Network Drawing functionality! **
Even though it is a windows program, it works almost perfectly through wine on a Linux machine.

* Event Files:
An Event File is a recording of every brushstroke that was made when creating a picture.
Event files can be exported at any time during the process of creating a picture, or even afterwards from a completed picture saved as a .wpb file.
Event Files can be imported into openCanvas and will then play back the recorded brushstrokes to re-create the image in real-time or fast-forward.
This can be both a lot of fun to watch, and a useful tool for teaching or showing other people how your art is done.
You can also stop an event file at any time and then work on the image yourself from that point. It's like going back in time and replacing the original artist with yourself!

** Network Drawing:
With the network function of openCanvas up to 4 people can work on the one image over a LAN or the internet.
This is a wonderful feature for serious collaborations, or just for messing around with your buddies.

openCanvas is available for download from many locations on the internet.
The easiest way to find it is just to google for oC11b72.exe
It should be just under 970KB.

I bought myself a Christmas present a couple of days late today.
It's a Toshiba Protege R400 and it was only AU$800.

For those not in the know, a tablet PC is like a cross between a laptop and a Cintiq.
That is to say, a laptop with graphics tablety goodness built into the screen.
Also, the screen can swivel around and lie face up on top of the keyboard.

These things are usually about AU$3k, so finding one for less than a thousand is pretty awesome.

This model is relatively small, with a 12.1 inch screen, but my old Graphire 2 tablet was only about 5 inches across, so it's still a step up for me.
Also, having tablet and laptop combined into one machine makes for good portability.

Currently it has Windows Vista Business edition on it, but I'm thinking I might try putting Ubuntu on it like my desktop PC, or maybe Windows 7. Only snag there is that it has no DVD drive, but I'm sure I can find a way around that.

Just got back from seeing it in 3D.
It was so so so amazing!
I've never seen a movie in 3D before either, so even more awesomeness.

Most expensive movie ever made? Well it shows. Man, CG has reached the level where it is indistinguishable from real footage. Love it!

Ooooh, and as a bit of a 3D image geek already, what a treat to watch! So many reflective surfaces, translucent computer displays, wow, they even had 3D photos, which is kind of impossible, but still AWESOME!

We sold lots of Patterpillars, and met lots of cool people.

I've just spent about 3 hours searching out and adding people that I met at the con.

I developed this idea on my DS, where the pictochat input system allows you to easily input japanese or english characters. I wanted to do something like leet speak but with japanese characters instead of letters and numbers.
Eventually I settled on a set of japanese characters that look similar enough to english letters that it is readable without too much trouble.

Turns out that FA journals don't support japanese characters, but comments do so I'll put the examples in as comments.
See if you can decypher them.

I think this is my first journal entry on FA, or at least on the new FA.
