Q&A "How come you haven't been a GOH yet?"
General | Posted 6 years agoI recently have been asked by several people “how come you haven’t been a guest of honor (GOH) at a con yet?”
First off, I really appreciate the sentiment. It’s normally accompanied with something like “Your art is so good!” which is a wonderfully kind compliment to receive. However, that’s not what determines whether or not a con should make someone a GOH or not.
The answer to the question is simply that I’m not currently a wise choice for GOH, and that is fine. Before I explain, I want to make it clear that I’m apathetic to the subject. Currently, my art is paying some of my bills, and it’s reach is still growing. Those are the most important goals that I have, so I’m very happy with things. A GOH spot at a con isn’t really something that I think about much, and would likely even add a bit of stress as I’d be expected to run some panels. Public speaking is something that I’ve been very successful at avoiding, so it would take a lot of effort to overcome that.
I've also been offered the GOH position at a con this past year, but sadly had to decline because the offering convention is outside of the current range that I travel for conventions. There were no hard feelings, and it was just a reminder of the give and take deal that the position is.
What’s more important to me, however, is that I think I can help those with these questions to better understand how the relationship with conventions and GOH positions work:
If a convention is efficiently choosing it’s GOH’s, it’s choosing artists and performers with sizeable social media reach.
While it’s true that it’s typically a benefit to the con to receive excellent art for their year’s theme, and they aren’t effectively using the talents of a GOH if they aren’t peppering their promotion material with that artist’s talent, there’s also the benefit of the artist having a large social media reach which will then serve as advertising property for the convention.
Therefore, in this age of twitter, FA, Instagram, and Facebook, it’s extremely important to a con that they select their guests from the list of artists and performers that excel in most of those platforms.
Simply put, I currently don’t. I have about 2500 facebook followers, but my twitter is tiny, and instagram is not much better (200+ each). I did recently pass 1k FA followers, but again, by comparison, that’s rather small. I’m happy to have each and every one of you, and I am plenty happy with the fact that those communities continue to grow.
I have no lack of people wanting commissions, and I even have some patrons for whom I can’t be more thankful!
The online community has been very good to me, and my reach continues to grow, so maybe someday. Who knows?
The big thing for me is that I’m already very happy, and such honors are not necessary to me feeling good about my work. I currently don’t have a lot to offer cons other than promotional art, and I offer that freely to conventions that I love already. (I had the honor of designing the 2018 Anthro SouthEast shirt last year.) I’ll always be happy to donate time to conventions that I want to see continue. They also give me a wonderful place to sell my merch!
So, in short. Thank you to those who have asked. Maybe someday, but probably not before some more growth, and that is ok. I have far greater goals, like growing my merchandise, and improving my art quality. And, right now I have parenting to add to the list of obligations, so I’ll keep growing and learning at my own pace. I’m just so thankful to have the family of supporters that I do!

I'd offer to do something to celebrate the 1k thing, but unfortunately my life is completely consumed by just how difficult my new baby is being. It'll get better eventually, but any art that takes place in the near future is going to be far slower than usual.

26 Hours to Pledge Left for a Shirt on Kickstarter!

This will be the quickest way to get one of these shirts!
All designs will be UV reactive and screen printed onto a soft shirt.
Ill be getting the screens made for each of these designs as well so every little bit helps.
Besides ASE I dont know when I will go about making an Etsy to sell merchandise on.
For now this is the only way to get a hold of one of these. :3

Commissions Reopened

Finally after a month Im reopening commissions! A few updates I need to talk about:
My prices, starting after the last queue was finished, has changed. Most commission types got a small raise. The big one is the Full Colored commissions. These are now normally taking me two weeks to finish. They got the only large change.

My terms of service has been updated. I always encourage potential commissioners to read through them before commissioning me! It has information on things such as refunds, payment, etc. When you commission me you are agreeing to these terms. So its very important to read through them and know what you are agreeing to. Queue Cleared

Thank you for your patience. My queue is now clear. Soon I will be contacting people on my Call Back list to refill my queue.
I wanted to make sure I got everyones art finished first before I took on more commissions.

Rest In Peace Firefox
General | Posted 8 years agoIve had to take a little time to put how I feel into words. Moreso because when I first heard of it all I could feel was anger and hatred toward the person that took this young mans life.
I dont think anger is what is needed right now. I think what is truly needed is a moment of silence. A moment of quiet and respect. And a moment to grieve for the lives lost. For their loved ones left behind.
I talked back and forth with James Firefox for a while. He liked my art and wanted to commission me. And from our conversations I could tell he was a relaxed and friendly person.
I certainly wasnt expecting the news that day.
James Firefox was murdered a few days ago. He was only twenty years old. And he was taken from his loved ones. As angry as I am at whoever took this young mans life I am equally confused.
Ive spent the last few days trying to understand it. But in the end I dont think I can. Evil exists in our world and there is often not an easy answer to it. And there certainly isnt an easy fix for it.
All I can do now as a person is try to be better. A better person to others. And maybe that will help. Maybe if I, maybe if we can just be better and kinder. Maybe if we can give more love to those around us. Maybe it can make a difference.
I wish I had an answer for his family. Some way to bring them comfort. I cant imagine what they are going through. I cant imagine losing a son.
I hope with all of my heart they can find peace. It wont be anytime soon I know.
I will be praying for them.
I wont forget you James.
I like to believe theres a place we all go after this life. It is my hope that he has found peace in a beautiful place.
Too often we get comfortable around our loved ones. We get into a routine. Its just how humans are. I urge all of you to take a moment and just spend some time with the people you love.
None of us are promised tomorrow. Its important to take some time out of our day to just be with the people we love.
17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Ive revamped the front of my FA. Ive also made a much needed terms of service. I encourage any possible/future commissioners to read it. It has information that explains my work schedule, refunds, payments, and more.
I tried too keep it short and simple. Mostly due to the fact I myself hate reading long terms of service lol.

Ive had alot of new additions lately concerning my art.
New tools to use in Studio Clip Paint. Brushes, textures, ect.

And Ive downloaded a new video recording software (OBS) since my old one was sort of crap.
I might even start messing around with animating again.
So alot of new things to learn.
Stay tuned! Im excited to see how this helps improve my abilities.

Thats just what has to happen sometimes. Im fit enough to draw so time to go back at it. I managed to get some practice in on the weekend. Already finished one commission on my queue. Gonna draw draw draw!

Woofer got flu

Ive finished my current queue thankfully. But Ive ended up getting hit with the flu. Ill be down and out for the rest of the week. Ive closed my queue until next Monday. Hopefully Ill be well by then.
I did this because in my current state I dont feel like I can give any commission I take right now my all. And I dont want to give my commissioners sub par work. Thankfully I finished everything on my list before I got hit with this illness.

General | Posted 8 years agoCommissions reopened again. I have 5 slots open. Possibly a few more depending on the complexity of the commissions I already get. Once all slots are taken I will close until I finish the current work load.
A few thing to know before commissioning me:
My commissions take 2 to 3 days to finish normally per commission.
I use Facebook or Telegram to keep in contact and I give updates on my status when working on your commission.
My work hours are from around 9am to 4pm. I take weekends off.
I take payment first before I start on the commission.
I only draw safe for work art.

Tablet Problems
General | Posted 9 years agoI need to give an update on my current predicament.
My tablet has been acting up lately. Randomly shutting off and just being a pain. My original fear was the battery. Today I got my answer. After thinking the power strip we had was defective since it wouldnt charge when plugged up to it, I dismissed it being the power cord.
Well, now it wont charge when plugged into any outlet. So Im guessing its the power supply. Ive got one ordered but it will take till friday to get here. If I had paid an extra $50 I could of had it sooner. But theres no way Im paying that much just for shipping. A replacement is putting me back $25 already.
Im frustrated but there is little I can do. Microsoft dropped selling Surface Pro 2 stuff when the Pro 3 came out. So I cant up and go to BestBuy or anywhere local to obtain one.
This is going to put me back a bit. It explains all the problems Ive had with my tablet lately, so hopefully this will be the last set back I have.

Im almost caught up with my work load. Now that that suit is out of the way Im down to one last commission.
I dont think Ill know what to do with myself lol. Ive always been working on something.
Perhaps itll be a good time to study anatomy or shading and polish my skills.
