Posted 13 years ago你们好,FA兽人

Ups and Downs
Posted 13 years agoWell, good news, I got a new icon (of which I am very, very happy with!) from
mamaglider (you should go check out her stuff <3). Also, I had a great time at karaoke last night. I've also finally stopped feeling so sick and realized what's been causing my pretty painful headaches recently. All good stuff.
Downside, I've been feelin' kinda isolated overall, I've been having some frustrating interactions with some of my friends, not to mention some non-friends, and the rapidly approaching school start date is, to be honest, scarin' me.
I really hope everything stabilizes pretty soon.

Posted 14 years agoForgot the link... Here's my results =O Does it fit?
It says my top three are Passionate, Understanding, and Scrupulous.
Passionate
You are in touch with your emotions, and sometimes you react before you think. The good news: you don't tamp down your feelings. The bad news: you sometimes say or do things that you later wish you could take back.
You do not live your life on an even keel; you do not go for long periods without experiencing some mood swings.
Understanding
You are willing to take the time to find out what's going on with other people, especially if they're in distress. You're a good listener, you don't criticize, and you offer unbiased, respectful, honest advice when it's requested. With a high score on the "understanding" trait, it is likely that you are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't feel the need to impose your standards on others or say things that, even though true, cause pain.
Scrupulous
You are an honest, fair person. You don't lie or cheat to get ahead. You treat others with respect and hope for the same in return.
You do not feel that you are above the rules that everyone else follows; you are definitely not willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead.
Upbeat
You enjoy being around others and others enjoy being around you. You have a "live and let live" attitude; because you know that no one's perfect, you are forgiving and happy to give the benefit of the doubt.
You don't feel the need to be controversial or express contrary opinions all the time. You see no reason to go around rubbing people the wrong way.
Empathetic
You are in touch with your own feelings, which helps put you in touch with the feelings of others.
You don't buy the logic that your happiness comes ahead of everyone else's because unless you're happy you're incapable of making anyone else happy.
Warm
You have a genuine interest in other people. You're a natural host, and are always thinking about how you can increase the happiness of those around you. When friends have problems or are in trouble, you're usually the first person they turn to for aid and comfort. Scoring high on the "warm" trait suggests that you are among those who enjoy domestic activities — doing things around the house — and are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't always say exactly what you're thinking; you don't like the idea of causing anyone pain because of your criticism.
Cooperative
You enjoy teamwork, play well with others, and prefer getting along to winning.
You're not compelled to win every contest nor to be right all the time.
Tender
You are gentle with others, both physically and emotionally. You are careful not to upset people and go out of your way to find the nicest way to say something. You naturally focus on the fact that the world is full of wonderful people, places, and things. More often than not, people with a high score on the "tender" trait enjoy spending time with children, love romantic movies, and are enthusiastic about making the world a better place.
You don't think of yourself as tough-minded or gruff, nor do you need to be seen as some kind of objective source of truth and rationality.
Intellectual
You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You're the living embodiment of the saying "You learn something new every day." In general, those with a high score on the "intellectual" trait are employed in such fields as teaching and research, and are enthusiastic about reading, foreign films, and classical music.
You do not avoid abstract conversation, experimenting with new ideas, or studying new things. It bores you to stick to the straight and narrow of what you already know.
Giving
You enjoy helping others, lending a hand, providing emotional or material sustenance. You don't see taking care of others as an imposition but as a vital and important part of your life.
You're not the kind of person who runs out of patience for people in need, nor do you feel that treating people with kindness is bad because it insulates them from the harsh realities of life.

Posted 14 years agoAbout the last journal.
Posted 14 years agoSo... Guys... I didn't expect you to sit there and puzzle about it for so long. Here's what I was trying to say:
"Chinese Furries: I have a question!
My Chinese isn't good, so I hope you understand what I'm getting at.
I want a Chinese furname for shiggles. I think 挖法 would be a good one. It sounds cute (it sounds similar to 'waffle' in English) and rabbit's dig often. So, would this be a good name for a rabbit?"
I didn't think I would get so many comments puzzling over what my message meant. x_x

Posted 14 years ago

Posted 14 years agoI've had this speech pattern in English where when I've been talking for a minute or two, I'll end the paragraph with "So..." and trail off, I think it started as a way to help me prevent repeating myself (I do that a lot).
所以 is an equivalent expression to so. I've noticed that I use it exactly the same way. When I don't know what to say, I'll just tack on a 所以 and trail off. I'm so weird.
In other news, I found a Chinese band that's not pop. I'm so proud of myself! It took at least an hour of searching on 百度, the main insular Chinese search engine, but I found them. Their name is 扭曲的机器 (or Twisted Machine in English). They're Numetal, though they're a bit harder than I usually like most of the time... Regardless, I've been listening to them a lot recently. If ya have a few minutes, check out my favorite song, 我没错. I think on youtube there's only a live version instead of an album one. If you can access Youku instead (I think it may be blocked in the US), then they have album versions.
That's all for this update, so...

Posted 14 years agoSo I can't get on FA with my own computer for some reason.
I have to use my friend's. So, because of that, I won't be able to get on very often. I'm planning on hopping on once a week, hopefully, on Sundays.
Hopefully I can survive coming here that infrequently!

Posted 14 years agoIt's starting to really hit home that I'm here for ten months. It only took a month, but...
I miss my boyfriend. I miss my mom. I miss my friends. Last night was pretty hard... I've been sick with a stupid stubborn cold for a week, and because of the heavy coursework and lowered amount of energy from being sick, I'm starting to feel overwhelmed.
I wish I could visit back home during the new years/winter break, but that would cost so much money... Ugh. I could use a big hug right now.
Hopefully there'll be more good news to follow when I'm feeling better.

Posted 14 years agoSo my mp3 player is becoming highly varied. Here's what came up on my way to and from school this morning:
Stupid Girl by Cold
红烧鸡翅 by 王蓉 (it's a cute, poppy Chinese song about having a party)
Back$tabber by Kesha
Colony of Birchmen by Mastodon
Spoonful by Cream
Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy
Mahou no Kotoba (Will You Marry Me) by Do As Infinity (Cute J-pop song about marriage)
Locking Down by Chicane
Fruehlig in Paris by Rammstein
What the fuuuuuck is happening to my taste in music! It's spreading out so far that I can't figure out what to tell people when they ask me what kind of music I like!

Posted 14 years agoSeriously, what the hell, man. I found the first season of this Chinese cartoon, called Panda Warriors, at a Target-like store here in Beijing. The animation itself looks like a semi-good flash animation, the subtitles are a little off sometimes (they're only in Mandarin so I have not quite a 80% understanding of what's going on) and the mouths move a bit longer than they should sometimes, but wow. I'm enjoying it all the same. I really like the five panda characters and their personalities. Plus, the lead panda (I think his name is 柏古 or something like that, or I could be way off, it's hard to tell) is kinda hot. <3
Anyway, besides for that, I'm having a good time here in Beijing. School started yesterday, and so far I'm enjoying my classes. I love both of my teachers. They're fun and pretty funny too. Good senses of humor. My schedule's not so great, I have three and five hour gaps on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively, but I also haven't picked electives yet, so hopefully those'll help close up those gaps.
I hope everyone out there in FA land is having as good a time as me with school starting up again and what not. =3

Posted 14 years agoJust survived my 14 hour flight from SFO to HKG (the major airport in Hong Kong). Ahead of me still is the 3.5 hour flight to Beijing. Hopefully it'll be as uneventful as the one to Hong Kong was (though mercifully much, much shorter)
I'll upload pictures when I find my USB cord! =D

Hey guys, it's for real.
Posted 14 years agoTomorrow evening, I'll be leaving for my school year abroad in China, particularly at PKU in Beijing.
I don't think FA is a banned site in China, since there are so many Chinese Furs here on FA, so I'll be able to upload some scenery pictures and whatnot as well as give some updates here via the journals.
For those who I've met and hung out with, I'll miss y'all so much. I'm headed out for a big adventure, probably one of the most exciting that I'll have in my life, but I will never forget any of ya.
I'll update when I'm in Beijing if I'm able to access the site. Hopefully I can keep y'all up to date!

One Month.
Posted 14 years ago
I have exactly thirty one days from today until I leave for China. I'm afraid. I'm excited. I'm expecting the worst but hoping for the best.
It's been my dream to study language in China for a few years now and I'm on the cusp of being able to finally do so. It's been a scary ride to get here and the worst part is is that it's just gonna keep being scary for a while, but I know that once the scary goes away, I'm gonna have a great time.
I'll miss all of you so much, and already can't wait to re-connect when I get back, even though I have a month until I leave.

Emo Rant (You've been warned)
Posted 14 years agoSo I've been going through a really stressful time.
I'm slated to go study abroad in China (specifically at PKU in Beijing) next school year and I leave in mid-to-late August. That being said, I have to close out my apartment. To save time and money, a bulk of my stuff has already been taken up to my Mom's house, leaving my room and living room (where most of my stuff is) pretty messy and scattered. It's safe to say my life is in a total state of flux.
Also, because I'll be gone for nine months or a bit more and then possibly not moving back to this area, I'm in a near constant panicked state to make sure I see all my friends.
Unfortunately, because of how my mind works, the upcoming trip, the prep work for it, some of my stuff no longer being around and trying to get in contact with and seeing all of my friends is interpreted and dealt with as major stress. When I get stressed, my patience gets shorter, my attitude becomes more extreme and my moods fragiler, more likely to swing.
They say you hurt the ones you love because you know that they won't leave you. Well... I'm hoping it's true. Because he's always there for me, I'm dumping a lot of shit on my guy that he doesn't deserve. He's starting to lose patience (or at least not hide the fact and put on a brave face for me, and if that's true the problem's even worse) with my constant fluctuation in mood and overall dour disposition. I'm afraid that I'll just get worse and worse until I leave, making the last moments I have with him before I depart for almost a year sour and bitter ones.
What can I do? I don't think I can get enough psychological help (in case I have depression or an anxiety disorder... ya never know, right?) without tarnishing my potential for going abroad. I'm trying herbal supplements (St. John's Wort and Magnesium) to try to keep my mood elevated but I don't think it's working. I feel like if I continue down this road that I'll come back to the country with nothing.
TL;DR: I'm super stressed out all the time and taking it out on my boyfriend because he's willing to listen and I feel like shit for it.
I'm sorry.
I love you.
