Hiya everyone. Getting right down to it: Due to recent "political changes" I need to save money more than I have in the past. As such I'm cutting into a lot of my non-core budget items, including art. I will of course continue to pay for any items I've already committed to, I just need to significantly reduce new spending. I'm not going anywhere at this time, and I will be continuing to post the backlog of art I've already ordered and received for some time.

To any artists whom I have repeatedly commissioned in the past, please understand that this change has absolutely nothing to do with your work, but is simply a necessary adjustment of my priorities in changing times. To others whom I've discussed getting art together, I'm sorry for abruptly changing plans but I hope you appreciate and understand my reasons.

To be clear, I'm personally safe for now, but there are people in my orbit who may go from a stable if tense situation to an acute need of assistance based on the implementation of policy changes issued in the past week. I and my family need to be able to help them out immediately if things change, which could cost an unknown but possibly pretty significant amount of money. It's also not impossible that we ourselves will find our situation deteriorate in the medium to long term, but that goes for many, many people to a greater extent than us.

The last and most important thing I have to say to you all is to do your best to be willing, ready, and able to help the at-risk in your community. And if you're in a vulnerable situation, don't be afraid to reach out those around you for information on contingency planning and to learn what resources are available. We will always have each other, and no matter the circumstance the only way we will get through dangerous times is together.

I can't believe it's still going but here we are. Impacted artists have been found across X/Twitter and even one on InkBunny. On the bright side, we have had a couple reports of artists successfully reversing the chargebacks, but it remains risky and isn't an option for some artists at all. Others have received support as direct donations or in the form of being able to resell the scammed artwork to other customers, at the same amount or slightly below. In these cases it's still some work for the artist, but considerably less than a full new work and allows them to have been paid some amount for that work in the end. If you don't want to donate to affected artists directly, this is my recommended way to support them.

  AnnVee has been gathering reports of impacted artists and is now up to a count of 45 (you read that correctly, FORTY-FIVE) or more. I suggest joining her Discord, see her journal here: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/11043261/ where she has the list of artists. You can use that as a reference for yourself for who to look into ordering from or otherwise supporting. For impacted artists, she has made a channel where you can post your portfolio as well.

By now many of you will have heard of the user [REDACTED DUE TO ANTI HARASSMENT RULES]. He was a prolific commissioner until he went quiet a few weeks ago. Then over the last day or two, he seems to have sent PayPal chargebacks to most if not all artists he worked with over that time. He deleted his Discord account last night as well. Anyone affected, make sure to take screenshots and records of anything you discussed with him, just in case!

I got some something from my mom it seems. I'm not all that bad off, just headache, cough, and drippy nose, but I'm also tired and not that able to focus. So if I'm offline or slower to answer than usual, that's why.

I don't have an exact date, as that's not how such things work, but right now is a pretty good estimate for twenty years since I became a furry, and accordingly how long Fzzr has been my fursona. The story isn't quite straightforward. I was in high school at the time, and in Biology we had received an assignment to create a hypothetical species and describe its habitat, evolution and so on. I forget if it was required or extra credit, but for whatever reason I spent the time to create an image in Microsoft Paint.

I started with a few ovals for body parts, filled in pixels so it was joined up, and then realized I hadn't left myself enough space for detail. so I doubled the size of the canvas in both axes, turning each one pixel into four, smoothed out the edges, realized I still didn't like how little detail I was able to apply, so I blew up up that much again and added more smoothing and small details. The result? A humanoid being with features of a tiger and black stripes on green fur. During the course of the pattern adding I decided not to make the stripes symmetrical, I think because being made in MS Paint with very basic techniques already made it look stiff so the bit of texture helped. I was very proud of putting two large stripes on the left cheek and one on the right.

When it came time to name this individual, I tried to come up with how a feline mouth adapted for more complex speech would sound, and decided it would depend less on vocal cords and thus not need vowels all the time. So I combined three sounds I figured would be available: A breath through teeth and lips, a buzz of teeth, and a growl from the throat. Fzzr.

Around this time I learned about furry culture and found myself relating to it very much, and it was very natural for me to snap into relating to Fzzr as myself. I soon started using it in many different contexts, most commonly screen names but also video game character names and so on. I got into (E)RP and met my first girlfriend and though she trilled the 'r' instead of growling it (something I refer to as the catgirl accent, because that happens so often) it was very special to be addressed like that.

Earlier this year on tumblr I ran across   kolae 's auction for the design I would later name "Vala" (a name previously from my character from a long running tabletop campaign). Scrolling past it hit me like a brick because though the color and gender were wrong, the stripes were so close to Fzzr that it was uncanny. So I bought that, and commissioned the Fzzr counterpart sheet. Lots of the details of the Fzzr you all know, particularly the calico pattern and the multicolored hair, come from the coincidence of the Vala design catching my eye, but I don't find that to be a problem. Fzzr has one stripe on his right cheek, and two on his left. And I'm pretty proud of that.

Instead of my previous practice of having separate references for Fzzr and Vala's bodies and faces, I have commissioned updated sheets for both of them from   kolae so that future commissions will be easier to explain. There are no fundamental changes, just updates to make them consistent and make the face stripes more clear.
