Looking for Watcher Feedback, Also Questions
Posted 7 years agoHey, everyone! I've been informed that, apparently, my lack of journaling recently has led people to consider me aloof and unapproachable, which... I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with! So let's see if we can do something to ammend that, shall we? I actually rather enjoy interracting with my watcher base, so I thought I'd make this journal and ask all of you silly floofs a few questions about the future of my presence here, and invite you all to ask me questions in return. In the interests of not making this a wall of text, I'll stop my birdy rambling here and get on with the questions!
What do you all think of my recent art, and such?
What would you like to see me do more of, on my page?
Any particular critique or criticisms you have about my recent posts?
What would you like to see me do more of, in future? Journals, art with short stories, etc?
Any thoughts on opening public commissions, here, as opposed to just privately and among friends?
Please feel free to answer any or all of the questions here, and take this as an invitation to ask me any questions you might have in return! I'll do my best to answer. Thanks!
Cheers.

Artistic Feedback and Requests: Keeping Up With a Bird 025
Posted 8 years agoHey, everyone! I really need to make these more often. This is going to be a super vague update, but, to keep things simple, I'm still around, I'm still writing, I'm still drawing, and my life has changed remarkably little, aside from working hard to improve with every passing day! This journal is here to serve two purposes: I'm looking to put out feelers into my watcher base, and see what you guys want, and I'm working towards some very serious and exciting projects that'll start at the beginning of 2018!
So. Requests. As you may have noticed, I'm currently 71 drawings into my Adamant Artist Challenge, the goal of which is to put out... 1,000 characters of art by December 31st, 2018. Right, so I've got a lot of work ahead of me, and I don't think I'll always be brimming with ideas of what to draw. The weird thing about getting better at art is that, the more broad your skillset becomes, the harder it is to pick any one thing to draw on any given day! So, if you have any suggestions, drop them in the comments here. I'm not promising I'll be drawing any of what people suggest, but I'm always open to ideas! I'm also thinking about opening 10$ sketches, to fill out my to-do list, so if anyone would want one of those, let me know in the comments below, as well.
Secondarily, I'm also curious to hear feedback from my watchers about how they feel about my art, recently, what you'd all like to see from me going forward, etc! Like I said, I'm really pushing to improve, lately, and want oppinions on how I can grow my page. If anyone has any questions, or such, leave those in the comments, as well, and I'll try to reply to everyone :) Thanks!
Cheers

Drawing Commissions? TMI Tuesday? Keeping up with a Bird 024
Posted 8 years agoSo, getting a little dusty around here! Been over a year since my last journal, or thereabouts, and I feel like I've come an awfully long way! As you may have all noticed, I've been doing a lot more art, lately. I'm open to any questions anyone has in the comments, but the long-short of it is that I'm recovering from a number of serious injuries sustained in the past year or so that have left me with only one functional hand, at present, and I've been filling my time with art rather than writing. I've also been contacted a handful of times in the past few days about potential drawing commissions, and so I decided... why not! I did some experimental art for
pawfox1995 last week that went over well, and which you can find in my gallery, as well as a number of other pictures, and it was surprisingly fun, so I'm thinking about opening for more more discounted experimental commissions in a similar vein, for practice and to offset some of my medical bills. But... first I need to find out what you silly floofs want! Should I just do standard slot commissions? YHCs? PWYW commissions?
Right now I've got a fairly bare bones price sheet, which you all can feel free to comment on and suggest alterations to, and here's the basics of it. 25 USD, per character, for a fully rendered picture like what I've posted in the past few days. Comes with a funny internal shot, if desired, 15$ for a medium-complexity background, like what you'll see on the commissions I did for Pawfox. I can do several different body-types, muscular, chubby, skinny, adult to infant, and the like. I can do diapers, diapersuits, wet/messy, etc, though my content restrictions from writing still apply. If anyone wants something from me at those prices, drop me a note! If it's too much, let me know in the comments and I'll try to work something out. I've come to really enjoy drawing, and I think these prices are fair given the time and effort that goes into my work, but as always I'm open to feedback from my viewers and potential customers. Here's a collection of unposted personal art I've done over the past two months or so, to give an indication of what I can do: http://imgur.com/a/B0NCN
Additionally, the notion has been floated a few times that I should do combination story/picture commissions, with short snipits of 4-800 words in the description of a picture to set the scene, give some background, and increase the... ahem, 'recall' value of the picture :P My original notion is that they'd be about 5$ extra, but, for anyone who wants a picture at the above prices, I'll do one for free for a limited time.
Thanks again! I'll try to journal more often.

Hey everyone! As you may or may not know, today is the three-year anniversary of my first halfway decent FA post, which you can find here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10606659/
Yikes, it has been a long, wild three years. I had something like 800 page-views and 10 watchers when I posted that. I'm not sure if I'm going to do anything to celebrate, I've been pretty loaded down lately as it is x3 Uh, yeah! I'm not entirely sure what else to go into. If anyone has any questions, feel free to throw them down in the comments. Maybe it'll be a "3 year anniversary TMI" kind of thing.
Anyway, here's to another three years of crazy stuff on here ^^

Keeping up with a Bird: 22: February Sucked!
Posted 9 years agoHeya, everyone, this has been my first journal in some time. To some extent, I've had good reason (or rather lack of any reason) to make a new one, but people are getting antsy about my continued existence so I figured I'd make this and get everyone back in the loop :3
For one, February sucked huge. My cat died abruptly, my nearly ten year old computer rig went kaput and had to be replaced on short notice, and to top off the shit cake I broke my left wrist right at the end of the month, and, as you might have figured, I'm having a little trouble typing like this.
Normally, I'd be able to work through any of those issues on their own, but each one hit me in sequence just as I'd begun to recover from the last, and the result of that protracted combo left me out of action for much of February, and now seems to be dripping into March as well, something I sincerely hoped wouldn't happen.
I'm dealing with it in my own ways, and those are helping somewhat, but unfortunately me being so under the weather and unable to contribute has rendered the banshee that lives in my front room even more difficult to stomach than usual. Replacing my computer wasn't cheap, so I wasn't able to cover her... excesses like I usually am. Sparta was her cat as much as mine, and his sudden passing hit her harder than me, and, even though it was almost certainly her fault, she keeps finding things to blame me for regarding it. Then my wrist breaks, meaning I can only provide limited help around the house, and suddenly she goes from frustratingly cruel and mean to intolerably so.
This isn't intended as an excuse for my absence from FA or my various chat-programs, or making some of my commissioners wait longer than I normally like to, but rather as an explanation. I don't think I'll be reopening this month as I'd planned, since I still have leftovers from last month that need clearing after everything went pear shaped.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your comments.

"So what in the hell happened to your Patreon?"

Hey guys, Psudo here. This is a question I've been getting a lot recently, along with several others, so I figured I'd make a journal and sort everything out. Treat it sort of like a FAQ for what has happened/is happening with my Patreon account.
Dude, WTF! You never fulfilled your obligations! You're scamming all your Patrons!
This, in some form or another, has been thrown at me several times. Originally, my Patreon account was intended to serve two purposes: #1) Give me the extra income I needed to keep my internet up, and #2) Give me an excuse to rewrite Two Weeks. Oddly enough, I've only ever gotten this from people who have never supported me (Probably because I squared with all of my patrons a year ago x.x). The problem was that nobody liked Two Weeks. People weren't reading it, I wasn't too enthusiastic about writing it, much of it had been rendered Non-Canon (The Vacant Years is the quintessential Caretaker novel, now), and I had several patrons come together and ask me, "Like, hey, how about writing something else? You've already got five Caretaker novels in the works." And I couldn't see any reason not to agree with them.
Okay, but you still didn't write it when they paid you to... That's scamming!
Not quite. I may not have written Two Weeks, but I have written a heap of other personal content that I wouldn't have been able to write otherwise (Like, 200,000 words of it, actually), most of which HAS been distributed to my Patreons, and will be publicly posted soon. I'm also offering other compensations to my Patrons, if they feel that's not good enough, etc. In addition, about half of the people who've supported me didn't clear their payments, meaning that they were 'nominally' supporting me, but their payments kept declining. I'm pretty sure I'm squared with everyone who's supported me, but if there's any more of you out there, please note/message me.
Okay... So what now?
Well, I'm going to be pocketing what I've learned, and try again of course! I'll be making another journal later, explaining the future of my personal work. In the mean time, I'd greatly appreciate if all of you little crinklebutts could waddle your way over to my newly furnished and neatly organized page, which can be found here: https://www.patreon.com/Argyraspides and consider subscribing!

Well, I've been robbed Blind...
Posted 10 years agoAs some of you may have heard earlier on today, I've been the subject of a targeted digital attack that seized control of my online banking and email accounts, and E-transfered out virtually every penny I had, right down to the bottom of my overdraft protection. I honestly don't know what to say here, guys... I'm now down the thousand dollars I'd been saving to move out, and heavily in debt to my bank because of the overdraft. The bank's launched an investigation of the issue, but according to them there's a 90% chance I'll never see a penny of that money again.
I went back into the bank yesterday, and got basically the same excuses that I got last time. "We're not responsible for breaches of your online banking account, etc. Even if it's found to be fraud, you won't get your money back unless you can figure out who took it, and launch a legal action blah blah blah." Now, all of that is illegal. A friend of mine from high school actually went on to become a lawyer, and I contacted him for advice. Apparently this is laughably illegal, but it's happened many times before and, despite the illegality, most banks will just continue to refuse to refund the person's money until either they give up, waste more money on legal fees than they would have regained by a refund, or, literally, died from old age. I... really don't know how to react to this. A few people have suggested that I start a gofundme or something similar to help raise some portion of the 1000 or so dollars that I'm in overdraft for if the bank plans on screwing me regardless. What are your thoughts, guys?
I'd also like to give a special thank you to the extremely generous people who've helped keep me fed these past few days. Thank you, you've helped bring me hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.

Keeping up with a bird: 021 Old Ass Shit
Posted 10 years agoSheesh, I really need to update this stuff. I keep getting notes from people asking if I'm still alive, or if I've left the fandom and stuff >~>
Eh, whatever. I'm still here, guys! And guess what? I'm old ass shit. I just got around to doing some digital housekeeping lately, and found, of all things, an ancient backup folder for an F-drive I used for school back in 2011. It had on it one of the very first halfway decent stories I ever wrote, which I'd figured to have been looooong lost, a weird little transformation story that I never got around to finishing. It involved a particularly hard week for Spike, getting run ragged by Twilight and her friends with chores, then eventually getting caught up in racial indignation, and, with the addition of an enchanted tome, turning the whole cast into little dragons as well.
Kind of a lame premise, but at least it wasn't "Oh-noes! Twilight messed up a spell...!" Which, if you read any FIMfiction, you'll know is easily the biggest cliche in that niche there is.
Reading it again now, though? It's become a marker of how far I've come as a writer in a comparatively short period of time. Before I started posting on FA in 2013, I had only ever written one post-worthy story, and that was another lame little Borderlands 2 fanfic that you can still find as my first ever halfway decent submission, all the way back in 2012. But this predates that by almost a year, anything earlier than that was so broken and derivative that I cringe at the thought of reading it again, let alone posting it.
Which brings me to my quandary. I kind of want to upload it, maybe even do one of those "Past-to-present" things, showing how I've improved over time. That's not as easy with writing as it is with visual art, for example, but with something this old the difference is pretty stark. Heck, I might even rewrite it entirely in my modern prose style, upload them back to back as a more literal example. I've kind of fallen out of the whole MLP fanbase in the past few years, but the idea still has appeal to me.
What do you think? I look forward to your thoughts :)

New Uploading Format, Upload schedules!
Posted 10 years agoHey guys! Just a short reminder that I'm going to be getting my shit together with regards to uploading starting this month. Uploads will occur on Monday and Saturday, but that may be subject to change occasionally, and, presuming I have things to upload, they will be on time. I'm also going to be hosting the story-proper off-site. This isn't any disrespect to FA, and I'll still be posting the shitty .txt version for all you people who can't read off-site or download in the description, but you're really better off just reading it on Gdocs. It's simple, download-free, and all you have to do is click a link and read. Case closed.
Thanks again, and I look forward to your feedback!

Shit, guys, I've been really out of contact lately. It's not like me to be so distant, but, in light of recent events, I'm trying to get back into the public sphere again. For starters, I've got literally 50,000 words of unposted stories that I'll be damned if I just don't want to post... It's not because they're bad or anything, quite the opposite, it's just that I almost feel like posting the stories is harder than... actually writing them, somehow o.O I don't know how it works, but I'm trying to overcome it and get back to posting regularly. Maybe 2 uploads a week, Monday and Friday would help.
I've also been having motivational issues when it comes to writing, right now. I've sort of bogged myself down in the planning phase of various sorta-kinda fetish works that might find their way on here sometime, not sure. I'm going to be launching a new RP/Story universe sometime soon, one I've been plugging away at for almost a year now, and that's going to be lots of fun :) As much as I love the caretaker universe, it doesn't leave much room for any *ahem* adult content? For anyone who wants to follow that stuff of mine, head on over to
argyraspides and watch me over there, too!
You can all expect to see more varied content from me in future, but I still have every intention to continue doing the same sort of stuff you've seen from me already :) Thanks again for all your wonderful support, I couldn't have done it without you!

Full Story Commissions Open
Posted 10 years agoYep, I'm opening commissions by journal now. I'm taking up to 40,000 (15,000 words remaining) words this month, anything will be completed this month. 8$/1000 words USD, read my TOS here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5686029/
Comment below or note me with how many words you'd like to claim! Thanks :) I'll be hiding comments on this to keep the journal tidy.

Minor TOS Changes
Posted 10 years agoHey, everyone! I'll be making another Keep Up journal later, but suffice to say I'm in a lot of pain but forcing through anyway x3
Anyway, as per changes to Paypal's TOS, I'm going to have to change my payment structure a bit. At the beginning of each week, I'll be sending everyone whom I'll be doing writing for that week a Paypal invoice for however much I'll be doing. There will also be a small fee added on to cover the paypal charges, but it's the same fee that would be paid via my old payment system where I required the commissioner to send me the money, so nothing really changes on your end except that I'm doing this properly now xD
In layman's terms, I now charge 8.40$/1000 words instead of 8$.
Thanks again, Psudo.

A notice to my long-term Commissioners
Posted 10 years agoSpecifically those getting multi-part or novel length commissions from me. Herein I'd like to address a couple of thoughts that have occurred to me since I started taking commissions in excess of 100-200,000 words.
First off, I'd like to get it out of the way that I fucking LOVE you guys. I'm honored that you're willing to spend hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars on a story for me. Just putting that down on a page makes me jittery with excitement, that I'm actually good enough to warrant such a huge purchase. Long-term commissions help shore up my income, and I often find them easier to write than shorter, one-off commissions that can sometimes be hard to get into the head space of quickly.
That being said, such huge stories come with their own sorts of problems, which have become apparent since I started doing these. The biggest I've noticed is that a lot of commissioners like to take part in plotting/planning for their novel. Now, for a smaller story this makes sense, considering that they're paying for a product, and want to have control over what they're getting - that's why they go to commission something custom. But for a novel-length commission, which can take a year to write and ESPECIALLY one that's written in the writer's universe, for example my caretaker universe, we encounter the problem of communication.
If I come across something in the commissioner's summary that contradicts the canonical universe, or that I have some other quibble with, then I have to talk it over with them or risk disappointing the customer. I send them a message, but they're at work and don't reply for six hours, and I've lost motivation to work by the time they do. When detail discussion does occur, it's often hours of unpaid talking on my part, which would be much better used actually writing. Also, this degenerates further with more specific commissioners. It kind of feels like hiring a mechanic to fix your car, then hoovering over their shoulder the whole time to make sure they're doing it right, even when you don't have any automotive repair experience or credentials. And that kills my enthusiasm about writing a story. And, with a novel-length commission, there isn't even the option of just powering through it.
Too long? Didn't read? Here's the gist of it: The longer the story is, the more creative freedom I need in order to write it well, and, as many of my long-term commissioners will attune (The commissioners of Twinkle Twinkle and The Vacant Years, for example), I'm good enough at my job that I don't need you to dictate all the little details, that only stresses everyone out and increases my anxiety about writing in general.
Of course, the commissioner's satisfaction remains my #1 priority, and I take all their ideas to heart in my writing, it's just that my sanity requires that the customer trust me to know what will make them happy, which I have yet to fail to do in over a million words in commissioned writing.
Thanks again, and have a nice day

Opening (Potentially) for Smaller Commissions
Posted 10 years agoHey, all of you :) As you might have noticed, I'm gearing up my writing again after a few months of drudgery, which I'm really happy about. I've also realized that I'm mostly working on the same extensive stories I have been for the past year, and I think it's time to put some new oil in the engine, so to speak. Basically just a break from all the huge, long-term novella commissions. I might even open another batch of sprints, which haven't been seen since 2013 x3
So yeah, if anyone is interested in a story between 4,000-8,000 words, or one of my long forgotten 1-hour sprints, let me know in the comments :)
For longer commission examples, see my gallery.
For sprints, 15$/each, examples here:

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12889230/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12364512/
This is just a tester, I'll open if there's still interest ^^
EDIT: I'm also particularly eager to write something containing pampersuits like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16172913/ So if you want something like that, you'll probably get priority ^^;

Status: Holy F*** do I have a lot of unposted shit oO
Yeeeeahh, hey guys! Remember me? I was that guy who did that thing that one time? No? That's okay, I'm back now with fresh memories to bring! So, I know you're all wondering where the hell I've been for the past few months, right? Well, here's the short version:
November: *Stressplosion*
December: I don't want to live my own life! *Gets lost in fantasies.*
January: *Birdy in dreamland*
Febuary: *Still in dreamland*
March: *Wakes the fuck up*
Huh, well that was refreshing... oh wait, I lost a fiscal quarter... In any case, extra super special thanks to my favorite little angora kitten,
lulukitten, who's kept my head out of the dirt since my breakdown in November, and whom you should all go watch. She does wonderful traditional works in colored pencil, some of them diaper related and some not. All are awesome ^^;
*Mandatory opinion on the IMVU thing.*
I couldn't care less. If/when something happens of any real significance, I'll react to it.
With that in mind, I'm happy to report that my hiatus, as far as I can see, is OVER. I'll be making journals, and posting stories, again, as before. I'll even be opening for commissions again soon, though at the slightly increased 2015 price of 8$/1,000 words. I'm also considering opening for more sprints, which haven't been seen for over a year now. Thankfully, everyone's favorite stinky barn owl is on the mend again, and I'm very thankful to those that have helped me through it whether intentionally, or just by giving me a shining face to take comfort in while I wander the void.
Feel free to comment, I've got lots of people I need to catch up with

Ugh... Hey, Guys! It's been a while >.> I guess you've all been wondering where I went, what with the sudden disappearance and all. Well, here's a breif summary of my last three months:
November: NaNoWriMo imploded for me after a death in the family resulted in my being absent for the latter half of the month, and therefor failing. The lack of income from my writing forced me to take a third job on top of school and my other work, so I basically had to put everything on hold for November.
December: I had originally planned to resume my normal schedule in December, but the fates intervened and I was given a notice from my boss: "Sorry, your request for time off has been declined. Instead we're putting you on seven day weekly shifts of fourteen hours per day! Have fun, bitch." So it was either that or get fired. On the other hand, I did get enough money from that to pay off my line of credit, and started working with the pure awesome Luna Kiva on Sofurry towards an illustrated novel collaboration that will be worked on between the two of us in the months to come! More details will be given on request :3
January: Christmas and new-years went poorly for me, as they almost always do. All of the pent up family drama from the year suddenly reaches a boiling point, and, to make matters worse, there's no escape from it as it overflows into the new year. On top of that, I somehow contracted that nasty flu that's going around, and spent two weeks of January sick in bed when I wasn't working with the firm. I've only just now started getting over it, and the firm wants me back to work next week, meaning I may not get any writing done in January, either >.> Ugh, sorry for the delays, guys. I feel like a total dick for my absence here on top of everything else.

Alright, all you weird buggers :P I'm now on twitter, which you can find here: https://twitter.com/Argyraspides Follow me and stuff! I'll be working my butt off all month next month with a 143,000 word goal! In addition, I'll be making hourly updates on twitter for the whole goddamn month, so lots of fodder for you people who like to know what I'm doing all the time :-3
In addition, my eyeglasses situation has kinda-sorta resolved itself. I'm wearing an older pair right now. The lenses are scratched to crap, but I can't afford a new pair until Christmas, most likely.
Also, I'd like to get some prospective commissioner's opinions on my new pricing, which will take effect in 2015. Is 8$/1000 words too much? I look forward to your thoughts.
