Miami's Airport

Also, American Airlines. Still a bad airline.
But at least it's not as bad as Newark. Or Dulles. ಠ_ಠ

Blank Stare
Posted 12 years agoI've had issues with the furry fandom and its supposed "acceptance" of anyone and everyone. That applies whenever it's convenient and/or popular to do so. The fact that so many folks in the fandom are complete and utter hypocrites just makes me laugh when the fandom as a whole tries to put the "big tent" argument forward as to why it's such a great community to be a part of.
To those of you who are leaving, let me say this loud and clear: Shit happens on every site. And I can tell you as a former admin on DeviantArt, and a moderator for some half-dozen forums, websites and message boards at any given point during the past decade, that drama exists wherever you go. Don't like someone? Deal with it. That's the way the world works. Or leave. Pack up shop and broadcast to the world that you have the backbone of a jellyfish. Proclaim that you are a complete pushover who has no gumption, and that a slight inconvenience that may or may not even directly impact you is more important than maintaining an audience.
Hell, I'll say it now. I will NOT be following anyone on SoFurry or Weasyl. SoFurry has no credibility with me as anything other than a porn dump. They used to be called Yiffstar back in the day, and the same folks who were running rigged contests (submit porn, win prize) are still at the helm. Weasyl's UI and auto-cropping of images are non-starters for me. So there. If you are leaving FA and going to either SoFurry or Weasyl, I will not be following you. Plain and simple.
Besides, I'm willing to bet a good 2/3 of the folks who are "leaving FA forever" will be back within two months.

Myers Briggs Meme

stigmata. Because I'm a dirty rotten crook.
According to Myers-Briggs, Mongos excel at analyzing situations to reach the heart of a problem so that they can swiftly implement a functional repair, making them ideally suited to the field of engineering. Naturally quiet people, they are interested in understanding how systems operate, focusing on efficient operation and structure. But contrary to their seemingly detached nature, Mongos are often capable of humorously insightful observations about the world around them. Mongos abhor waste (be it in time, effort, or resources) but are highly adaptable, making them open to new information and approaches. They enjoy exploring new things, and can become bored with repetitiveness and routine.
Mongos can often be a frustration to their friends or partners due to a propensity to ignore everyone while deeply absorbed in a task. The Mongo should be careful that they do not cause offence by this seeming aloofness, as it could have a negative impact on otherwise great relationships.
Mongos are content to let others live according to their own rules and preferences, as long as the favor is reciprocated. Mongos endure reasonable impositions without complaint — but if their "territory" is encroached upon, eroded, or violated, their quiet, easy-going nature is quickly abandoned in favor of stubborn and staunch defense of what they view as rightfully theirs. It has been observed that a slogan that best describes this Mongo attitude is "Don't Tread On Me."

Reasons for me to buy a WiiU
Posted 12 years agoSo I was thinking, "my 360 is dead and I want a new console. Should I get a PS4 or XB1?"
Then I remembered the WiiU exists and I'm like "why should I buy this console?"
... yeah I got nothin'.
Wait... if they put King K. Rool in the next Smash Bros. game. Or Super Macho Man. Then maybe. Maaaaaaaybe.
But srsly, I got nothin'.

E3 so far... (a rant, of course)
Posted 12 years agoSo I'm just now getting a chance to check out E3 coverage, and I just have to say "meh". I am thoroughly unimpressed.
Flashy visuals and impressively-created cinematic sequences don't change the fact that all I have seen so far have been remakes, reboots and sequels of "AAA" titles. Maybe I'm just a jaded old curmudgeon, but I simply can't get excited about the next installment of a franchise that has already belched out more games than I care to count.
The landscape of gaming has shifted dramatically in the past decade. Game studios I used to know and love have either gone under or have been assimilated by these big "AAA" publishers, and no longer have the same vision or ingenuity that made me fall in love with them in the first place.
I'm still waiting for someone to have the stones to go off the beaten path. I'm still waiting for someone to have the audacity to publish a one-installment game where the focus is on actually creating a good game instead of becoming "the next big thing". I'm still waiting for the next Beyond Good & Evil, the next Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, or the next Brutal Legend.
Pardon me for not wanting to throw down $500 just to play the next Call of Battlefield when I know a new Call of Battlefield will just come out a year later. Pardon me for not caring at all about Halo or Metal Gear. I just want to play a fun, original game that delivers entertainment beyond simply shooting bad guys or "pwning noobs" online.
I've just become so fed up with the gaming industry treating gamers like sheep. I know now that I will be voting with my dollars and I will not be purchasing a next-gen console until I see a game worth playing that doesn't have a number or colon next to its name.

The Economics of Furry Art
Posted 12 years agoPlaying off of this Journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4633329/
Let me preface what I am about to say by making it clear that I am not "hating on" anyone. Taoren and I are actually good friends. The decisions he makes in terms of what is best for his own business interests are his alone. Whether I agree with them or not has no bearing on what I think of him as a person.
That said...
I do agree with him on this: the economics of furry art are upside down. The market (i.e. the fandom) demands art be cheap, fast and good. In the real world, you can only pick two of three (if it's fast and good, it'll be expensive; if it's fast and cheap, it'll be crap; if it's good and cheap, it'll be slow). Anyone who can provide all three reasonably will have a tremendous surge in demand, and most artists do not have the capability of fulfilling that demand in a timely manner (thereby making it slower).
In trying to maintain that impossible trinity of ideals (good, cheap, fast), some artists do "raffles" or "lotteries" or what have you. That's great and all, but it just means that some people get work quickly while others get work... never. And determining by random draw who gets work and who doesn't seems like a very strange way to go about it. The furry fandom is a very insulated community where everyone knows everyone and word of mouth can doom someone's ambitions for actually making money drawing furryporn art.
First, I should start by clarifying my positions on some things:
1) Artists are brands in the furry fandom. Those brands are like brands in real life. Sometimes those brands live up to their reputations. Sometimes they don't. That's all I'll say on that subject, but many times people commission artists not because of their skill, talent or vision, but because they want to be able to brag that they got a commission from such-and-such popu-fur artist.
2) The market demands certain things from artists. This plays off of my last Journal to an extent in the sense that certain things sell here and certain things do not. I, for one, have made the decision not to do any more adult-themed artwork because, quite frankly, I don't get anything out of illustrating other people's fetishes and kinks. I'm not saying that I am "better" or "above" artists who choose to make themselves available for that sort of work. I'm just saying I simply have no more desire to create that kind of work for other people.
But yeah. Porn sells. I'm not going to dance around it, and I wish other people would stop trying to dance around it too. This is a sex-centric fandom, and the vast majority of the most popu-fur and recognizable artists within the fandom have made the choice to create that kind of artwork.
I'm getting off on a tangent here.
The market is saturated in certain areas (porn) and barren in others (the stuff I do, evidently?). And the economics of this fandom are just goofy. There isn't any rhyme or reason to anything aside from artists who feel they can get every penny out of their abilities, artists who don't know what their own work is worth, and artists who can't seem to get anything done about the lack of activity regarding commission contracts.
What are your thoughts on the economics of furry art? Discuss.
