About the new update...
Posted 10 years agoI personally find this recent update to be rather bad. I know FA is owned by IMVU now, but seriously? A sidebar to show IMVU ads that takes up almost a fourth of the screen? The ads at the top and bottom of the pages are an eyesore enough, so why consume more page space to add more? What's in store for the site next? Will users have to pay for premium accounts to use features like notes and blocking? Are artists going to have to agree to terms saying any rights to their artwork must be handed over to IMVU before they are allowed to post it?
I see a future for FA, and it isn't a good one...

Thoughts on recent update
Posted 12 years agoI don't mind site updates. In fact I welcome them. However the recent update has began to annoy me...
I go to the submissions to catch up on all pics that the artist I watch has posted over the week, and its the only thing I see- just pics. No submission title, nothing saying which artist made it. Just pic thumbnails. In order to find out the name and artist of the submission, I have to click on the thumbnail. Some people may find this update conviant, but I personally find it taxing. A lot of the artists I watch have simular drawing styles, so just seeing a thumbnail with no title or artist name makes it hard to know exactly which artist made them. It's very annoying...
I am a bit weary of making this journal, since I have heard rumors of FA users getting banned for posting journals sating their complaints of site updates and/or lack of updating; and I wish to not be added to that collection of people. I just personally do not like the recent update, and hope it could be fixed.

Digimon Shotacon and Lolicon
Posted 13 years agoAs I roam across Fur Affinity looking at the various forms of porn, I sometimes come across something that makes question its existence on the site considering the stiff rules on the matter: Shotacon and Lolicon of Digimon.
For any people out there confused by the terms, Shotacon and Lolicon are forms of adult material, mainly from Japan, that depict boys and girls in an erotic manner. Here in the US, these terms are used to refer to adult manga and Doujin with underage boys and girls; while back in my home country the terms are a little more wider and include photos and videos. By fandom standards, Shotacon and Lolicon both fall under the category of Cub Porn. These according to the site rules are banned material.
However, from looking at many pictures displaying it, Digimon seemed to be exempt from this rule; with the argument stating that Digimon do not have a set biological chart and do not age. As a Digimon fan myself, I believe this concept is mainly a western view given that Digimon evolutionary stages are given different names in the US and most western countries. In the show Digimon, the Digimon that are shown with their human tamers are for the most part shown in what is known as their Rookie stage; with the exception of Gatomon whom is mostly in her Champion stage the majority of the time. However the words "Rookie" and "Champion" are coined American terms for these stages. In Japan, these Digimon are in their Seichouki stage of their evolution, which has the literal translation of "child" in Japanese. Their next stage up is called Seijukuki, which translates to "Adult".
As for the argument that Digimon do not age, this is untrue. On their own, Digimon do age and mature over time. However the process is relatively slow, with few Digimon ever reaching their final stage of evolution; however this can be sped up during intense flight or fight situations as a means of survival. This process can be manipulated however with the use of Digivices by human tamers, but the number of Digimon with tamers in the Digital World are small in number- roughly below 20% by best guess.
Given these statements, shouldn't porn of Digimon like Gabuman, Agumon; and Veemon be labeled as cub, and therefore be banned from the site? It would make relatively good sense in my honest opinion...

Missing the smut.
Posted 13 years agoCar broke down the other day, so I decided to take a bus to the store. Riding the bus is no different than riding one back in Japan, but there was one thing that was missing that made it not feel the same- porn. Back in Tokyo were I lived with some friends for a little bit, it was not uncommon to see porn on one's daily commutes. Business men would have one out to read, the nerds would be grinning ear to ear while gazing at some big breasted girl getting tenticle raped by some demon in a hentai comic; and teenage school girls would giggle at a scene in a yaoi they all would be reading together. Porn was basically everywhere, and there wasn't any shame in it. Here in the U.S. though, its quite different. I miss walking into a convince store and seeing a N-17 hentai sitting next to a women's gossip magazine on a rack. And just today I learned that an adult store in a town not too far from where I live was shut down. They say it was over the store selling faux weed, but I heard the chirstian community of that town dislike an adult store being within their town; so they complain until it is made to close. Friends here say it won't stay gone for too long, since they that store was the fourth adult store to be built in the area in six years.

Site rules and ads
Posted 13 years agoWhile looking at the site rules, I noticed that screenshots of avitars from Second Life are not allowed unless the user themselves made the avitar; however one of the ads that shows up on the site every once in a while is for Luskwood Creatures- a company that makes furry avitars on Second Life. Isn't this a little contradictory? Wouldn't posting a screenshot of a company made avitar, like the ones from Luskwood Creatures, be a form of advertising the product; and therefore promote it to help increase sales? I have heard people say that screenshot of an morpg like Second Life isn't art, and doesn't go by the for you/by you thing. However if this is the case, then why does Second Life give players the ability to take pics of their avitar and the game environment around them?

wondering from my point of view.
Posted 13 years agoThere is something that i have wondered a lot about ever since i came into the fandom- why do some furry artists insist on making a living on their drawings alone? The world is getting harder to live in, and moving to America i have actually seen people trying to make ends meet in this current state of the economy. Believe it not some of my friends and relitives here have two jobs just to pay expenses. So whenever I hear or see a member of the fandom who is an artist strike out on their own and use the money they make from commissioning art as their sole source of income, it leaves me scratching my head and wondering "why?"...
From what I have read up on, the adverage minimum wage here in the US is $7.25 per hour. When you do the math, that is close to around $350- $400 every two weeks. The adverage price for a picture by a furry artist is close to $45. When bunched together with a list of commissions, it sounds like a lot. However it is sometimes not so simple. If you take in the cost of living in your area (rent on a decent apartment is around $600, which at times doesn't include utilties and that can reach around $300 total) plus add the expenses on food, other bills like cell phone service, internet, and a few luxury expenses here and there; then most of the time what an artist tries to rake in taking commissions will not do. They begin to worry about trying to make it another month, but still keep on the clouded path of "my hobby will cover everything". The sad truth is that it doesnt 80% of the time, and the artist will sooner or later break themselves and lose their minds over trying to stretch what they can do on their own to the limit.
In my honest opinion, one should never take something like drawing porn, which is more or less a hobby, and turn it into a way to live. If push comes to shove, you will have to expect that art won't keep you afloat and seek actual employment. This form of living isn't stable, and your income you make solely on drawing pics for others gravely depends on the demand and popularity at the time. If the damand for your work lowers and your popularity wanes, then you will face some pretty serious problems...

a little homesick in the states
Posted 13 years agoToday i went to the fye music store in my area, and i noticed that they sell some of the snack foods that i remember enjoying back in japan. makes me feel a bit homesick... america is great, but i do miss nursing on a bottle of pepsi iced cucumber while nodding my head to gackt as they played on the radio. *sighs a bit*
Something I've noticed
Posted 14 years agoI'm just a simple country tanuki that wanders across FA looking at pics and reading journals. Whenever I feel like it, I sometimes leave a comment about my opinions about the said pics/journals. I've seen a lot of both good and bad, but there is one thing I've seen that really makes me grit my teeth.
This is the Veggie Dogs. I have seen a number of them, and they make me question the talent of certain artists. All the Veggie Dogs are the same yet differ only in gender and coloring, with names like Cabbage, Broccoli; and Carrot... How very creative. -.- It was like someone was passing a stencil around and using it time and time again.
I recently learned that these Veggie Dogs were in fact ripped off of a fur called Allan that was banned from this site nearly two years ago, and that these clones arisen last winter from the need to cause drama when the pictures showing Allan getting bludgeoned, shot, or torn to pieces were forced to be removed from the site since a higher power deemed them threatening in nature. People wanted to still fire bullets at this Allen without getting into trouble, so these tracings were born.
To all you artists that draw these Veggie Dogs, these... forgeries... then you are nothing but petty imitators that shame the very hands you create with. If you have to take another person's design, trace it, and call it an original work; then you hold far less value than the promissory note I have in my pocket. The gods gave you all the talent to create, and you squander it by creating counterfeits? Disgraceful!

Are you kidding me?
Posted 14 years agoI overheard a fellow fur say "If anyone is ever banned from FA, that is like the entire fandom telling them to get lost and that they are no longer welcome".
Are you kidding me? Banishment from FA is being banished from the fandom?
I haven't been a furry long. In fact I've only officially been in the fandom for almost a year. I may be a newbie, but even I have enough common sense to know that a simple website like this doesn't represent an entire fandom at large; nor that the people who run that site are to be its leaders. I know that this site wasn't the very first furry site on the web, and will never be the last. Heck there are furs that have been in the fandom so long, that they were gray-muzzles when furs like the FA owner Dragoneer were leaving doukies in their daipeys and screaming for cuddles and nom-noms. They were never represented by someone or had a fandom leader, and i know a lot of us really don't like the thought of some person who is more than likely a slob representing us as a whole either.
If you get banned from a furry site, so what? There are at least a bazillion others out there to take its place. So for all of you that go on saying that those who get kicked off of here are thrown out out of the fandom, wake up and smell the wasabe! Sure a fur might get banned from here, but you're still going to run into them at the next con. They won't go poof just because some big shot or other fur got his/her feelings hurt over something childish and booted them off of here.
