Since it's been pretty quiet on here I thought to post a journal and brush some of the dust off
If you are a member, send us a note with an image of your giraffe fursona and we will upload it to the gallery! If you have seen any awesome giraffe arts floating around, link it on this journal or send us a shout so we can fave it. Be sure to look at our favorites too if you want to see more giraffes here

Zuri the Giraffe Debuts at Cincinnati Zoo! (News)
Posted 14 years agoQuoted from the article:
'Fans of baby animals, rejoice! Now that Zuri--the baby giraffe born at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden--is one month old, she's ready for her debut. Zuri was introduced to her outdoor abode over the weekend, with her mother, Tessa, by her side. According to the zoo, Zuri enjoyed her outdoor romp, and will be spending more and more time in the yard. Cincinnati Zoo patrons will be able to observe Zuri outside as part of the Zoo Babies exhibit that kicked off on Sunday.
While the zoo acknowledges that Zuri is their most popular baby animal right now, the Zoo Babies event will also feature bonobos, Garnett's galagos, Florida manatee, pancake tortoises, white-handed gibbon, little penguin, black rat snakes, naked mole rats, leaf cutter ants and more.'

Giraffe Hybrids Vote...
Posted 14 years agoOk, I'm going to offer this up all Official Like, since All Giraffes should have a say in this group ^_^
Kadath and I talked about a policy on following giraffe fursonas who followed this group, so they became members and we can keep track of any new Giraffe related things. Which we agreed on and we're happy with.
Now,
RenoHidaka has told me that Giraffe Hybrids could be an option. So I'd like to open this up to all followers of this group...
Should Giraffe Hybrid fursonas be followed, and should giraffe hybrids be allowed as favourites, and features?
Or should we stay Pure 100% Fresh Giraffe?
Make your vote in the comments area! ^_^

Auction <3
Posted 14 years agoHello everyone out there in Giraffe land!
Your resident Quiet Admin Mudi here <3
I'd just like to quickly draw your attention to a special auction that
Defenbaugh has drawn my attention to
http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1021827.html
Now, I feel this amazing picture, doesn't need any help, I'm sure, but the auction ends on the 26th of Feb!
I would ADORE to own this piece of amazing giraffe artwork, but, I'm sure there are some other giraffes, and giraffe lovers who also have their eye on her. May the best 'raffe win! <3

Just a quick note!
Posted 15 years agoHey everyone! This is Mudi! Your friendly general Admin! I'm just here to keep things cleared up, and delete the occasional double post! (Yes steal wings, I'm here to clean them up! lol)
Anyway, I've noticed a lot of people are sending links to us as page shouts! We really do appreciate all the donated artwork, but at the rate were getting page shouts, they'll disappear quite rapidly after a few days! Which is relatively inconvenient!
So, just to avoid losing any links to donated artwork, if you are donating artwork in the future, can you send them to us as a personal note, PM or whatever you want to call them, that way we can archive them and if there are any problems, we can sort out the problems quickly!
Thanks for understanding!

Giraffes of FA!
Posted 15 years agoHey everyone! Thanks for checking out the group. A lot of people are expressing interest in donating pictures to the group. We'll see about posting some of them, but the majority will be faved (because there's just that many!).
We'll occasionally be posting a journal with group or giraffe-related news, so keep a lookout for them!
A few giraffe-related facts:
- There are 9 species (including sub-species) of giraffes, though some are debated to be of the same species.
- Giraffes are only found in Africa, though they are found all over the continent.
- Giraffe tongues are8 to 20 inches (46 to 50 centimeters) long, prehensile, and bluish-black.
- A giraffe neck can be over 2 metres long, but it has only seven vertebrae - the same number as all other mammals.
- The stubs on top of a giraffe's head are not antlers or horns. They are called ossicones, and are cartilage protuberances covered in skin and fur.
Those are just a few tidbits of what makes giraffes a rather unique species. More next time!
Cheers,
Kadath
