This documentary is well made, showcases real current issues, and is both depressing and angering. With enough public knowledge an eventual change will be made. I am glad to see celebrities take a positive and proactive stance on ocean life protection and awareness. I've known about Japan's annual dolphin slaughter since I was in 2nd grade (there have been very graphic documentaries on the web for decades on this subject), the same goes for "scientific whaling research" in Antarctica that mysteriously provides whale burgers and slabs of whale flesh to the Japanese consumers in the name of "science". Norway, Denmark(Faeroe Islands) and Iceland also slaughter cetaceans in high numbers, but not on the scale of Japan. Sadly most Japanese citizens aren't even aware their country is doing this. I've been both disappointed and desensitized over the years towards the issue, but this documentary and celebrity support made me happy for a minute.
Enough international pressure should help cetacean populations recover, then we can focus on the next problems - pollution and human created hazards (driftnets, junk, overfishing). It is true that food items are culturally relative, but they needn't be endangered, contaminated, nor one of the most intelligent and kind beings on the planet when plenty of other food sources are available. Way to go Japan...
Also, I am doing art here and there, but have had too many non-internet life issues to attend to lately to post much, but to those that have been wondering where I went to, I will post in time. :D

General | Posted 17 years ago5 Places you want to visit before you die meme thing:
These 5 countries have held a special allure in my head since I was a little kid. But I was always a geography nut that wanted to be anywhere else but where I was. Share your 5 top destinations. :D Here are some pretty scenics from each if you are in a visual mood and feel like seeing some of the prettiest places around IMO.
- Seychelles
- Antarctica
- Bora Bora & the rest of Polynesia
- Spain
- Australia sappy ad time!
I already made it to India, so I can't list it, but I want to go again someyear.

Help me pick what to draw
General | Posted 17 years agoI thought I'd poll the audience to see what character/s they want to see next. Any one that I posted is fair game, and the winner shall get a picture. Maybe I can manage a holiday themed thing as well. :D
Any ideas?
I also had an idea of making mermafications for people as commission or possibly trade (friends only). Maybe. Still not sure.
Happy December times to all.

Sea creature of the month/ octovids
General | Posted 17 years agoThe monthly theme is deep sea creatures! I may break out some relevant characters. Mascots will prolly be my vampire squid and dumbo octopus chars, Jay and Dee. Every month, or perhaps 2 weeks a new mascot will be featured methinks. How's that sound?
WHY ARE DUMBO OCTOS so cute?! They just are. Take a look at em bobbing around down in the depths. xD
Here is a cool mini video of some more neat deep sea critters.
I was asked what my 10 favorite characters to draw were. I have a tankfull, but here are ones I can think of right off the top of my head:
Glaucer, obviously
Chantrea - blue lionfish mermaid
Cheesestick - chromodoris nudibranch (hie's just too cute not to)
Cruz & Cruci - hourglass dolphin mers
Dee - Dumbo octos are the shet
Orion - simple fishguy and fun
Kiran - polychaete, need I say more?
Nex - full of sting, chironex jelly
Roxe - pink deadly scorpionfish
Kiziko, spanish dancing, ole!
Also various cliones/sea-angels, they are addicting.
Tags, I wonder if there will ever be any sea animal ones. They could be very useful. :0 Also I never really browsed this site, but I took a look at a few species, also the 'herm' gender... and I won't be doing that again. I was scarred for life. D: HoshitwhyforFA... Substance please?

Hi everyone. What do you know about button and keychain making? I know there are a few methods, some more cost effective than others.
I was contemplating making some fun little seachibi sets for such an endeavor, maybe for a con or something, if i ever go to one. xD
I also noticed a surge of nudibranch and seaslug mer pictures here in the past few months after I posted some journals about them... from none at all, to quite a few, including my own pet-species. Interesting. Maybe I have too big of a mouth. *hides slugs sneakily*
Anyway, here is your cute nudibranch video of the month. Why must they be so cute. ;-;

National Geographic: nudibranchs!
General | Posted 18 years agoMore learning time. I wish people here would put more educational links up instead of talking about stupid drama, or screwing other peoples furryfluff characters.... Do not want. I vote for a bit of substance to journals, even the most silly.
National Geographic had an awesome article on nudibranchs. Of course I was ecstatic. They are the most colorful animals on the planet, possess fascinating natural weaponry that is one of a kind, have an unbeatable sex life (the real hermaphrodites, thank you), are cute as hell, yet never get enough attention for their beauty and uniqueness, so of course they deserve a feature! :D
National Geographic: Living Color: Nudibranchs.
A cool short yet informative video by National Geographic. We are the high fashion models of the sea. :p
Enjoy and learn.
Don't ignore the pretty seaslugs. :D They have way cooler adaptations than you ever will. *sting*
Yey.

Come to Australia
General | Posted 18 years agoCome to Australia! (<--- click me)
Damn its catchy. Lots of awesome, cute and cuddly animals that can kill you with rapid ease live in Australia, and many of them are sea animals. I found a fun song that I am illustrating chibi style, since either I or my friends have most of these species as characters. The result should be up in a while. :D
Box jellies, how I love thee.
*sings along* You might accidentally get killed.
Also I needed to bump that old journal off.

General | Posted 18 years agoDazzle yourself with some ocean jems: Nudibranchs! :D
It is true that seaslugs are among the most gorgeous animals on the planet. No other animal group can match their stunning colors, fascinating behaviors and just plain cuteness. People go diving all over the world just to catch a glimpse of these little guys. Nudibranchs were one of the reasons I became interested in the oceans long ago as a little kid. :3
Here are 13 gorgeous nudibranchs (lucky number 13) and other seaslugs topping my personal favorite list. Enjoy their beauty.
1 Glaucus atlanticus! Me!!! Glaucer is a Glaucus atlanticus with the colors of it's close relative, Glaucilla marginata
2 Spanish Dancer. Ole! My character Kiziko is this flashy species.
3 Alabaster nudibranch Pure white perfection.
4 Blue dragon nudibranch. Dragon of the branchs.
5 Batwing seaslug. It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's a purple flying seaslug!
6 Flabellina affinis. The florescent mothership is landing.
7 Nembrotha kubaryana. Send in the clowns!
8 Chromodoris magnifica They're Cheesestick's relatives.
9 Janolus cristatus. Neon pastel beauty.
10 Cyerce (the stunning petal slug)
11 Bubble shell seaslug. Cute little shells on their backs.
12 Phidiana indica. Stinging fireworks on your back!
13 Spanish shawl Vivid contrast.
Go team seaslug. 'Cuz you know we rule.

Brilliantblue
Brilliantblue is a anthro-merfolk and sealife community here on FA! Mercreatures, sea animals and aquatic enthusiasts are welcome there.
Rue Rebis had the idea to create the club with
meglyman and
Glaucer. It is somewhat like my "Mermafied" deviantart mer-club, but here on FA. So, if you have a mersona, want to make one, or just really like sealife, go check it out. Because sea animals are awesome, and never get enough attention. This nudibranch endorses the previously mentioned community for all your Mer Affinity needs.

Squishies and the rest of us.
General | Posted 18 years agoI'm a squishy. Not a furry. Perhaps also a mer-ie. :D Even though I also have a 'fursona' that was created later on for my other gallery, I always consider my seaslugger the default and most appropriate 'anthro me' even over there. :D
Of course there are furries and scalies, but there are others out there too... like mers and squishies! Specifically sea-squish mers in this case. Though being a nudibranch would also qualify me as a slimey. :]
So... how do people classify invertebrate, fish and amphibian type characters out there? Is there such a classification in popular usage? Is anyone else on team sea squish? Or land squish? Team arthropod, or team mer-ry? Sometimes people make more distinctions than just furry or scaly, so I was curious to what people thought about the classification issue for non mammalian and non reptilian denizens of FA and beyond.
FA needs some sea-animal species options in the submission list!!! Where are the fish, cephalopods, slugs/snails, crustaceans and even more common things like insects or arachnids? Even a small generic invertebrate column would do nicely. D:
Moving on, I recently drew Glaucer with some legs for kicks. He looked almost reptilian or even dragon-like. But hey, sometimes glaucuses are called blue-dragon nudibranchs or sea-lizards, so it works. Of course sea slugs don't have legs, but fantasy shapeshifting fun allows it sometimes for land-walking, though even on land it is more fun to just crawl/slime over everything than walk. I'm still thinking of whether or not to do a decent pic of this form. I also designed an amoeba person, and a few more winged/frilled seasluggers. They may show up here in a while if people want to see them. There's my little artsy update! I am also vowing to make myself work with watercolors after re-settling down after moving.
*Go, stinging tentacles!*

10 species list: marine species video links
General | Posted 18 years agoI thought I would link some videos of randomly selected sea animals. I probably will do another round of them if people find it informative or interesting, since there are many other species that need airtime. Sadly most people tend to neglect the ocean species and focus on terrestrial ones, but the sea has some fascinating and beautiful specimens. :D
Blue whale
Pistol shrimp
Bloodybelly comb jelly
Bull Shark
Spanish Dancer Nudibranch
Portuguese ManoWar (+ turtle & Glaucus nudibranch) All your stingers belong to me! >:D
Stingray
Spotted Dolphins
Octopus
Crinoid (feather star)
If there are 10 species you would like to share, feel free to make a similar journal, about land, sea, or air.

General | Posted 18 years agoWoo this little page is working out so far methinks. I hope to have a simple Christmas picture up in a few days to feel all festive. And maybe I will upload the main character illustrations of my manga-project.
Thanks so much for watching! A random blue nudibranch appreciates it mucho! :D
Whoever gets my 1000th view gets a mer-version sketch of their character/sea animal of choice. for fun. Woo.
