The results of my Patreon Poll for Pack 001 are out! So I know what I’ll be drawing for the month. I thought a good way to spread a little interest in the Patreon packs would be to stream work on a couple of them, to get the word out a bit better (thanks to chibibiscuit for the idea!) . Voting for the theme for my first pack of images is live on Patreon! The deadline to vote for the theme is April 2, at which point this poll will go down and the poll for specific images will go live.
Since I started this at an odd time, it’s likely that this first image pack will only feature three weeks of content. In future packs, I’ll do my best to make sure it’s four images per pack.

So I’m relaunching my Patreon!

It used to be that the only rewards I could offer were full-sized images and project files, but I’m going to give something new a shot. I’ll still be offering what I used to, just at a lower patron level. But now I’ll be doing monthly image packs, each centered around a theme, with one image done per week.

I’ll be writing more details on the Patreon page itself as soon as I get things set in stone. I’ve got a very good idea of what I want to do, I just need to write it out. But I was excited enough about this change that I wanted to let people know as soon as I could!

I’ve officially pushed myself too hard in like, everything, so I’m taking a small break from commission work for health reasons. I’m going to try to stay away for at least the weekend. I may still draw stuff for myself (very likely will - I can’t see myself not drawing anything for two whole days), but nothing that’s work for other people.

For the most of you, this doesn’t mean anything, but for my customers, I’m making this post to keep my work schedule public. If you have a problem with me taking a break for any reason (like your commission is time-sensitive and you’re worried I won’t get to it in time), get ahold of me privately and we’ll figure something out.

I’m in kind of an awful spot health-wise and in pretty bad pain. I have an appointment Monday afternoon that, if I’m lucky, will solve the issue, but until then, I’m going to have to suck it up and deal with the pain. The painkillers I’ve been on haven’t really been offering any relief, so I’m not expecting this to be easy, but I’ll live through it.

I’m only putting up this journal because if you’re expecting work from me, I will probably not be able to do anything about it in the next couple days. It’s possible that these painkillers will actually kick in and let me function normally, so I guess we’re just going to see what happens.

So I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a while, and now seems as good a time as any to make it official. While this probably won’t make any difference to you all, I want to say it out loud anyway to keep myself accountable.

I’m changing the way I view how I take commissions. Where before I’d just work on things whenever was possible, now I’m going to try and structure things a little more rigidly. So five days our of the week will be work days, and for at least eight hours on those days, I’ll be focusing on nothing other than my work. For the other two days, I’ll be focusing my attention more on practices and studies, and maybe just fun art stuff for myself or friends.

So while commissions are still open indefinitely, this might mean that I won’t be able to get as many done in as short a span as I used to. But hopefully this will result in fewer meltdowns and a generally lower sense of stress on my end. That’s what I hope, anyways.

What gives you guys comfort when you're feeling down? Bad junk happens, and emotional garbage can accumulate, so what do you do when that gets to be too much? The thing I hear most is that people talk out their problems with other people, but it tends to just be someone else telling me what I already know. Most of the time there's no logical reason for me to feel depressed, but sometimes everything I'm feeling gets in the way of that logic and I feel awful for what I know is no reason.

So when that kind of thing happens, what do you guys do to get back to normal functioning? What helps you the most?

I am BACK IN BUSINESS, baby! Also this means that the teaching stream can happen today as scheduled! As a reminder, that’s happening at 3:00 PM US Central time, so in three and a half hours.

Basically tablet has crapped out again. Installing the newer driver helped for a while before my pen stopped responding to the tablet again and I got really frustrated last night. A buddy who knows more about these things tried to help me out today and couldn’t figure out what was wrong either, so now I’m just hoping the issue is the tablet pen. I’ve got a new one coming in the mail that SHOULD arrive here tomorrow. Hopefully in time for the teaching stream. If I don’t have a pen by then, I’ll just have to call off the stream, I guess? Which would be ~just wonderful~

Silver lining: I’m basically forced to take a breather for at least a day. It’s not something I WANT to do, but it’s probably something I needed to do anyways.

Other silver lining: I’m not frustrated by the problem anymore. Whatever’s wrong is something that’s out of my hands, and if getting a new pen doesn’t work, I’m just calling in my warranty and making them replace the whole thing. Kind of sucks for the people who are waiting on commissions from me, but there’s nothing I can do now.

So I have a teaching stream as a Patreon reward every month. Basically I just go through whatever the people in attendance would like to see me cover, and hopefully everyone comes out learning something (including me, usually). Also they’re just fun.

The only two eligible people this month that were interested in the stream would like me to make it public this month! Which means anyone who’s around AT 3:00 PM CENTRAL TIME ON FRIDAY will be able to hop in and get their learn on! And even if you’re not going to be around, I’m going to remember to record the stream this time and put it up on my Youtube.
