Wow, I'm 28 suddenly!

I wanted to apologize for how slow I've been in getting around to commission work! I don't have my tablet with me here in Sweden, and the backup tablet I was allowed to borrow is too small to do actual work on. My tablet should hopefully arrive here in the next few days, at which point I'll do my best to get back to commission work as soon as possible.

Heya all!

I wanted to mention that I'm vending at this year's Bronycon! I'll be at table 19 if you'd like to drop by and buy something, or order a commission, or just to say hi!

After that, I'll be spending six weeks in Sweden with my wonderful girlfriend. I won't have my full work setup over there, so we'll see how commissions work out when I'm over there. I'm going to do my best to complete all the orders I currently have before I leave though, so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Okay so for real this time

I’m planning on setting up an online store to sell some posters and other merchandise. To anybody who has any experience in this area: what site do you use, and what makes it work for you?

Heya, a friend was talking about wanting to buy an OC I might not use from me, and brought up the concept of OC auctions. Are these a thing? And would they be something people would be any interested in? To be clear, this wouldn’t be an adoptables situation, where I make one character and five pallete swaps, but rather a once-in-a-while thing where I make a character I like but don’t think I’ll keep around and auction off the rights to use them to someone else (unless there’s a better way to do it). Does that sound like something, or is it a dumb idea?

Hey, all! Doing an early morning stream to try and get some of this Patreon work out of the way! So after some thinking and talking to some people about it, I’ve decided to rework some things in my Patreon. The changes are as follows:

At $5 per month, you gain access to two polls per month. One to decide the general theme of that month's image pack, and another one afterwards to decide the individual images in that pack! Any suggestions you have for themes and images would be very appreciated, as well.

At $10 per month, you have access to the same polls, but you are also able to claim a sketch commission from me! These commissions are black and white and can contain one character and a very simple background. The character can be a character you own, or one from your favorite TV show/movie/game/whatever!

At $15 per month, you have access to the polls listed above, but you are also able to claim a colored sketch commission from me! As above, the commission can contain one character and a very simple background. And as above, the character can be your own, or from something you love! Alternatively, you can instead claim a black-and-white sketch commission with TWO characters and a simple background.

Commissioning process will be as follows: after your card is charged, I will message you to ask you the character(s) you would like me to draw, and any other specifics. Once I have that information, I'll work as quickly as possible and send you the image when it's done. Since it's only a sketch, I won't be offering WIPs, but small fixes (within reason) will be made if necessary after you receive the image. The benefit to commissioning me this way as opposed to the normal way is that you're guaranteed a slot at the beginning of each month! I will be prioritizing Patreon commissions over regular commissions, and you'll receive your image extremely quickly. For any larger, more complex orders, normal commissions are the way to go.

If you were a Patron at the $10 level, you’ll have to claim your reward again, sorry! Something screwed up somewhere and I momentarily deleted the reward tier you were on. And if you’d like to go become a Patron, now’s a great time! I’ll have the poll for next month’s theme up soon, so you’ll hopefully get in to vote on that!

I want to do one more YCH before I return to regular commissions.

The idea I had for the final one was a multi-slot YCH, but the site I've been using doesn't seem to support that idea. I can't just do the auction in the FA comments like most do because I'd like to include all my galleries in the voting if possible. Anyone know of a better way to do this?

So the next two commissions I have to work on are the final two of the current batch (unless the third customer gets back to me before that happens). After I clear them out, I’m going to re-think a few things about how I take commission work, restructure things some, and re-open for work.

In the interim, I’m going to open up for one or two YCH commissions, probably a pony one and an anthro one. I know a couple people were really vocally against this for some reason, but it’s something I want to try, and it’ll give me some artwork to do while I retool my normal commissions.

I’ve also got some Patreon work to do! For those who weren’t around to check, the theme is “G/t Shenanigans”, and we’ve got our four images chosen already. All I have to do is find characters that would work in those situations. The folks I’ve asked before have told me they’re interested in seeing my own OCs as the stars of this pack again, but I don’t really want every Patreon pack to just be “GOAT’S OCS”. So that’s something to think about, too. also psst, if you wanna become a patron now, you can choose the theme and/or images for next month’s pack!

I’m working for a client who’s paying me by the hour. I’m finding that takes SO much of the stress off of me concerning revisions and trying new things and getting details down. It’s something I’ve done a couple times before and I really love doing it!

If I could, I’d just change all my prices to an hourly rate, but I understand that requires a bit of trust between the client and artist that might be hard to place, especially for first-time clients. How can you be sure the artist isn’t just lying about the time it took to get more money out of you? With clients who are friends, that trust is already there (hopefully). But if John Q. Furry wants a commission from me, they don’t know me and might not trust me to be honest about the time I spend working. In streams, that problem can be fixed, but having to schedule streams for every commission would be way more stress than it’s worth.
I had an interesting discussion about this on Tumblr, but I'd love hearing from more people about this! Artists, would you prefer charging a flat hourly rate for your work, and if so what would you charge? Customers, would it be fair for an artist to charge a flat hourly rate? Would you be able to trust the artist if they said they were going to do that?

I’m on pace to finish this commission I’m working on tomorrow. Then I’ll probably take a break from commissions for the weekend and come back to them on Monday. The remaining commissions shouldn’t take too long to finish, then I’ll be able to reopen orders and take more work on. I’ll be working on Patreon stuff some time this weekend hopefully, but I don’t know if I’ll have the energy to stream it. We’ll see.
