The ranter is well aware that the following rant doesn't necessarily apply to all genres equally, nor is he attempting to undervalue or disrespect any genre outside the narrow focus of his intent. So...
I am really pissed off at Japan right now. What ass-worshipping rimjobber came up with the formula that strings the audience along with 30-40 episodes of depth and dalliance, confusion and reconciliation, emotion and confrontation, and flirting with both dreams and disaster in the same breath--then nosedives the entirety of the show's inertia into to a shallow, abrupt end with LITTLE OR NO FUCKING CLOSURE OR PAYOFF?!?! The HELL is your problem, Japan? Albeit you take perverse joy in stereotyping the entire male gender as fucking pathetic otaku pussies, but Jesus Tapdancing Toastman CHRIST, will you QUIT slapping shit endings flavored with your own emasculation onto shows that have the potential to be beautiful, re-watchable works of art? This has to be the FIFTH series in a row that I will never watch again because the ending was an unfulfilling waste of time, which made the previous however-many-hours of watching an even greater waste by proxy. If you're going to dangle a carrot in front of us, then at (or slightly before) the end of the road, you'd better give us the fucking carrot. It's no wonder so many production houses seem to spring up overnight and die before the ink is dry.
Pull your heads out of your soy sauce-basted rectums and get a clue: resolution is key. The *type* of resolution is immaterial; good guy wins, bad guy wins, hero gets/doesn't get the girl, someone important dies, lots of people die, rocks fall and EVERYONE dies--as long as we get the carrot, that's all that matters. A 30 second montage while the credits roll does NOT qualify as "closure". Solid, meaningful resolution takes a full episode, perhaps two or three or more to allow the dénouement to taper off into full-fledged afterglow. You REALLY want people to watch your shit? Spice up the resolution with some additional aftermath. Few things are as intriguing as causality. If he got the girl, how about a few days in the life of that relationship you've forced us to imagine and pine for since episode 4? If the bad guy triumphed, what were the consequences to the kingdom he now rules? If rocks fell, who was around to take note that everyone died... and why was that person not among the TPK? Treating that carrot like an unimportant afterthought is unforgivable. Don't get lazy. Don't make excuses. Don't polish the back end with bullshit and hope no one notices. Just FINISH TELLING THE FUCKING STORY and do it so that the audience feels no regret for coming along for the ride. [NOTE: This applies to ALL writers/directors/producers/animators/etc, regardless of genre or region.]
Until then, fuck you Japan. Fuck you in your cute moe-striped panties. I'll go watch something from Studio Ghibli, or maybe have a SAO marathon for the thirtieth time while I wait for you to get your shit straight.

Live
General | Posted 13 years agoLife is worth living.
It's not always easy. It's not always fun. There will be moments that you wish had never happened. But none of those are an excuse to believe otherwise. The world is too big for that; there are simply too many amazingly worthwhile things to see and do, to feel and learn, to have and love.
There is always something--or someone--for which to live. When you find yours, everything changes for the better, no matter what else happens. And that is a beautiful, wonderful thing.
Life is definitely worth living. So stop making excuses and start doing what you should have done from the start:
Live.

For those yet to vote...
General | Posted 13 years agoAmericans live in a classic “illusion of choice” scenario. When election time rolls around, who do you vote for—the vociferous Democrat who denounces the inflexibility of the conservative platform and proclaims a new Utopia powered by taxpayer dollars, or the stalwart Republican candidate who sweats corporate funding and swears sideways that he’ll resist change with every fiber of his being? Who can you choose, in good conscience, knowing full well that nearly every word frothing from mouths on both sides is completely untrue, and that whichever one makes It to office will do whatever he damn-well pleases without regard for campaign promises or the welfare of the common man? Can it truly be called a vote when both doors lead to the same slaughterhouse?
With only two choices, the options are limited.
America has subjected itself to a bipartisan miasma for decades. Largely through misconception (and better funding), the Democrat and Republican parties continue to hold a blatant monopoly over political stations of power. This would pose less of an issue if the parties were actively working for the good of the people—but they aren’t. For far too long, the primary goals of either party while in the driver’s seat has been subversion and replacement of any policies created by the opposing party while scrambling to install their own policies to ensure they retain power for themselves for as long as possible. And the taxpayers get to pay for it all, although we have no say in how they conduct themselves.
If this doesn’t seem fair, that’s because it isn’t. But don’t bother pointing fingers; there is no scapegoat here. The entire voting, taxpaying populace of the USA is responsible for letting things get to this point. How, you ask? By allowing themselves to be deluded into believing that there can only be two political parties worth voting for. For a culture that demands variety in all things, this is one item that should not have been allowed to slide.
But it has, and it is, and now American citizens everywhere are realizing just how docile they have become, and many are frantically searching for methods of retaliation. The problem is, the methods that should work no longer do, because the government has elevated itself beyond the will of mere people. And while more “revolutionary” tactics may certainly have an effect, the repercussions from such actions could end up being more detrimental than the problem they sought to address. How, then, to combat a force so massive and deeply entrenched? Well, there are several ways:
- Support third parties. There are many different groups to choose from, and no doubt you can find one that more closely fits your political views than the nebulous Dem/Rep umbrella. The ruling parties have done everything in their power to discredit tertiary parties as viable entities, with an unfortunately substantial amount of success. Ignore the propaganda spewed forth by the Big Two, and go see for yourself what these lesser known parties have to offer.
- Get informed. Part of the reason it has been so easy for the government to screw over the citizenry for so long is simple ignorance. If the people don’t know what is going on, they can’t question it. This is something our supposed “representatives” have been banking on for years, and the people played right into it. Government is widely perceived as too complicated, too corrupt, too scary, or too large to understand. So in order to fight back, we all have to do our homework. Learn what is going on, who is doing it, and how it affects you. Research topics upon which you have an opinion, and see how those topics are being addressed on Capitol Hill. Learn what happened to the economy, and what financial experts agree needs to be done—then contrast that with what politicians are proposing. An educated population poses a serious threat to big government.
- Get involved. The government doesn’t believe it has a reason to fear those it governs anymore. Prove them wrong. Participate in political action groups, write letters and petitions to the congressmen who are supposed to be representing you, donate or volunteer for the smaller parties that best represent your views—hell, you can even run for local public office! Words can only take you so far; without action, change is impossible.
The government can only keep its citizens oppressed while the citizens allow it to do so, be it under the guise of “protection” or through simple apathy. All it will take is a large enough group of people rejecting the regulations of a corrupt system, and the whole thing grinds to a halt. Those who sought to bleed the populace to forward their own agendas can be held accountable. The bloated, gluttonous bureaucratic mass that pretends to be our governing body can be deflated to more manageable proportions. Then we will be that much closer to once again having a government that is “by the people, for the people.”

Who is John Q Public?
General | Posted 13 years agoThe system is rigged. It has been skillfully engineered over decades to steer you towards agreement with whatever you are being force-fed. Just because they decorate Option A and Option B with big pretty letters and give them all the screen time does NOT mean that Option C, D, E, F, et al simply cease to exist. They are still there. They will still appear on the ballot. Many have more diverse views and goals. Some are more closely relevant to and better representative of your interests. At least a couple of them are likely far more capable of steering this country back on track than the "popular" options will ever be--because the people who rigged the system don't want it to be fixed. They want to keep the deck stacked in their favor. They can't do that if they fail to control your choice.
Don't fall for it. Names, faces, colors, alignments, and promises are all completely irrelevant. All that matters is what they actually plan to do with the power they are given... and if those plans include listening to the will of the people. Research the platform and goals of EVERY candidate, even the ones that seem out of your comfort zone. Learn what they all stand for before you choose. Make an EDUCATED decision. Don't be the moron who votes blindly, then kicks himself later because his "choice" turned out to be the same raw deal with a different coat of paint.

Things are looking up...
General | Posted 14 years agoIt's amazing how such simple things can dramatically alter one's perspective of his or her situation, well-being, and life in general. It doesn't even have to be anything tangible... it could be as basic as an idea, or a small change in luck, or a few words from a new friend--but it can make all the difference in the world. I see it happening, and I can't help but shake my head in wonder.
Little things can mean so much. My heart feels a bit lighter.

On Starting Over
General | Posted 15 years agoI've never considered myself a man who could be broken by any kind of world, though the one I'm in has tried valiantly to do so. But then, perhaps that is its role: to seek out those who would rise above their station and unleash a volley of adversity upon them. It never occurred to me the sadistic lengths to which the world would go just to see me fall. And as I bowed beneath the weight of countless injustices, I thought for a moment that I had indeed broken. I was infuriated--not at the world, but at myself for allowing the world to win. Yet in the twilight moment preceding despair, I had clarity; suffering is self-perpetuating. I wanted to lash out. I wanted to hate. I wanted something beautiful to be tainted, abused, and ultimately laid to waste. And that's how the world wins: instilling others with its venom, that they may spread it farther.
Then I remembered that I don't believe in suffering. Suffering is a senseless accident that clouds resolve and dilutes purpose. Pain and ugliness are not to be taken seriously--to do so is to forfeit control. Those who succumb to a world not of their own design will be consumed by it, drained of their vitality and discarded into obscurity. Those who lack purpose will stagnate and wither. Those who do not do for themselves will forever be dependent on others, and end with nothing. The world feels no remorse.
I have purged myself of emotional superfluity. Regret will not help me reach my goals. No one is completely trustworthy; anyone with any sense has ulterior motives. Criticism and doubt are the tools of envious, lesser men. Never again will distractions pull me so far from what I aim to accomplish. As the world feels no remorse, neither shall I. My path, my plan, my rules. I will achieve my goals or die in their pursuit. And God help anyone who gets in my way.
The only freedom is choice.
The only truth is action.
The only virtue is effort.
The only morality is progress.
The only salvation is success.
I am not broken.

FWA again & commission updates
General | Posted 15 years agoWell, FWA has come again, which is both a blessing and a curse. I love how Cons tend to rejuvenate my artistic drive; I've drawn more in the past three days than I have in the past six months. On the other hand, I am reminded of how long it has been since my last truly productive art streak, and it becomes kind of a killjoy. Last year around this time, I made all sorts of plans regarding my art and other creative projects, only to be kicked in the balls by Life's remorseless mean streak. Let's hope that this year will prove different.
Anyway, I really got my shit kickstarted by the Con, so those who are willing should milk my current groove for what it's worth and those who have been patiently waiting for their requested works should start seeing a payoff in the near future.
If I can keep up this wellspring of motivation, I might have to get myself a dealer's table next year instead of lurking in AA again. We shall see.

**COMMISSIONS OPEN** & updates/apologies for the hiatus...
General | Posted 16 years agoTo those few who care (or are waiting on commissions from me), I apologize for being such a non-entity the last couple of weeks. I got laid off from my job at the end of May, and I've literally been grinding my ass into a pasty white pulp applying for new positions to fill the income vacuum. But in doing so, I've managed to neglect those who have commissioned me. They all have my profuse apologies, as well as my gratitude for not hounding me about them during my silence. (The fact that I didn't require upfront payment might have helped with that, but still... thanks).
On to the Silver Lining: as I am now a free agent, I have a lot more time to do commissions. Which means that the 10 slot limit is now erased, and commissions are COMPLETELY OPEN until further notice. I'll keep the 10 slot block going, just so those in the queue know where they stand.
Tell your friends--I could really use the money right now. @o_o@~

Opening Commissions
General | Posted 16 years agoOkay, so I'm needing to set some cash aside for various projects and future purchases... and my current job (being the steaming pile of horse shite that it is) doesn't allow enough leeway to do so. Same old story, different day.
Anyway, I figure it's been quite a while since I opened up this old can o' worms, so here it goes -- Commissions are officially open. Starting out with TEN (10) AVAILABLE SLOTS. First come, first serve. Depending on how well this round goes, I might open up another set shortly after completion. Of course, if there is no interest, it might be another couple of years before I try again. *shrug*

BACON!
General | Posted 16 years agoI was dreaming wakefully, linking fancy unto fancy, and conjured a stray thought both odd and amusing:
Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626) is considered a pioneer of the scientific method. Due to his various appointments to positions of rank (Viscount, Attorney General, Solicitor), he was sometimes referred to as "Lord". He was a philosopher, a lawyer, a scientist, and was knighted in 1603 (hence the "Sir").
Through the twisted, kaleidoscopic eye of modern-day geek culture, this makes Francis Bacon one of the coolest (and tastiest?) men who ever lived... simply because of how much fun we can have with his surname.
He has graciously provided us with:
Baconian Method
Bacon Knight
Lord Bacon
The Philosophy of Bacon
Bacon Science
The Law of Bacon
Bonus: His mother's maiden name was "Cooke"
XD

Video game thingamabob
General | Posted 16 years ago1) What was your FIRST video game console?
Vectrex (if you remember this, you get a cookie)
2) Name a few games you played on said console.
Oh hell... umm... I don't remember the names of any of them. But I only had three or four game cartridges, so yeah.
3) Excluding handhelds, how many VG consoles do you own presently?
Xbox, PS2, and I have an old N64 hiding in a box somewhere. Does a PC count?
4) Were you a Street Fighter nut? Any character in particular?
Wasn't a nut, per se... liked to play it, though. Dhalsim and Blanca were my two favs, though I could never seem to get Dhalsim's moves right.
5) Do you think Capcom is a FUCKING awesome company with ''creating characters that looks so good you forget to focus on the game?''
Umm... I don't really base my opinions of games on the company that made them.
6) Here's the scenario.. You had some friends over and you all ate FRIED CHICKEN! After the meal you all decide to play some video games. As your friend reaches for a controller you notice his/her hands are very "greasy." Are you the type that would insist they wash their hands before pawing the controller, or is it no big deal?
That's gross. Yes, wash your damn hands. Unless he brought his own controller, then he can gunk it up all he wants.
7) What's your favorite RPG/Action RPG? I will allow a second and third fave if you insist.
The Fallout Trilogy (fuck Tactics), Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance, Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion)
8) Do you prefer 2D games or 3D games?
Depends on the game. I can still have a great time rocking Duke Nukem 3d, despite the crappy 16 bit feel.
9) Are you an SNK fan?
Sometimes
9) Are you good at DDR?
Not really
10) Who wants to kick that dog's ass from Duck Hunt?
Why do people keep asking this question?
11) Have you skipped out on important events in life because of video games?
Not really, but I have wasted a lot of time that could have been spent taking over the world... so yeah.
12) Do you listen to video game music?
Indeed
13) Have you ever cosplayed a VG character..?
Not yet, though I might do it sometime.
14) Have you ever been in an arcade playing a fighting game, KICKING ASS, and then some 6 year old asian kid comes in and OWNS YOU??
*Mr. Miyagi Voice* "There is always someone better, Daniel-san."
15) Name three games you would love to see remakes of if it was done properly.
Duke Nukem 3D, The Monkey Island series, Leisure Suit Larry (the original)
16) Mario or Sonic?
Neither
17) When a movie shows up in the theaters, let's use Spider-Man as an example, are you likely to buy the GAME version?
Not really.
18) What is your LEAST favorite genre of video games? (ex. fighting, sports, shooters, etc.)
Sports games, followed very closely by any game that requires you to pay any sort of subscription in order to play.
19) Is there a game out there that you feel was unique and didn't get enough love?
Sure... but I'd have to get back to you on that.
20) Have you ever verbally abused a game because you couldn't beat one of the levels and/or bosses?
I make a hardcore rapper sound like a Sunday morning sermon. Stupid controls, not anticipating my next move...
21) Do you own any VG apparel?
Not that I'm aware of
22) What are your thoughts on the live-action Super Mario Bros movie?
Good idea, bad execution
23) On that note, what did you think about the live-action Street Fighter movie?
I pity Raul Julia, and I want to smack whoever decided to draft Jean-Claude Van Douchebag to play the AMERICAN character Guile. Also, the fight scenes were cheesy and Dhalsim/Blanca didn't get enough screen time.
24) Who's hottest out of the KOF chicks?
Haven't played it in a while... couldn't tell you
25) Do you say "old-school" a lot when you're having a VG conversation with others?
Depends on what games we're discussing.
26) Have you ever lent someone a game and they returned it to you damaged?
yeah.
27) Do you own any imported games?
One... I think.
28) Are you ready for this meme to be over, or could you keep going?
Meh.
29) In this scenario, let's pretend you're going to get a video game tattoo! What would you get and where? This can be simple or elaborate.
I'd get the Fallout mascot boy tattooed somewhere discreet, and possibly a big "13" on my back.
30) Have you ever cried after you beat a game? If so why?
Um... no.
Vectrex (if you remember this, you get a cookie)

A day that will live in infamy
General | Posted 17 years agoCome one, come all! Revel with me at how flaccid and impotent the Powers That Be have proven themselves. Join me as I sneer at the cosmos for its failed attempt to thwart my existence.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen... it was on this date 11 years ago that I was diagnosed with cancer. And after laughing my way through almost two years of injections, inspections, and toxic chemicals, I emerged weakened and bald... but victorious. Ever since, I have been a firm believer that whatever doesn't kill you just makes you stronger.
So here I sit, alive and well, celebrating more than a decade of flipping off the Grim Reaper. May the future be a testament to his greater folly in not killing me when he had the chance.
Cheers.

Fallout 3 and the PCT
General | Posted 17 years agoBefore I say anything else: FALLOUT 3 KICKS MASSIVE ASS!!!!!
So a big "fuck you" to all the naysayers and mudslingers who ran their mouths about how low their expectations were. Stick THAT up your flaccid assholes!
And now, on to the completely Fallout-unrelated topic... the PCT! This could be the next big meme! XD
In the spirit of the upcoming election, I thought I'd do a little research into all the candidates (including the ones you never hear about). During my search, I ran across a fun little item called the Political Courage Test. This document is filled out by presidential candidates to more clearly delineate where he/she stands on certain key issues. Their responses can be viewed at the Vote Smart website. But best of all... the test itself is available for download.
So I figured, what better way to get in a voting mood than to fill out the test myself? As I plan on being a candidate on the 2012 ballot, it makes sense to get an early start. And it looks like a lot of fun. :)
So, without further ado, I give you the Political Courage Test, ala GoBob.
***
"The Political Courage Test asks candidates which items they will support if elected. It does not ask them to indicate which items they will oppose. Through extensive research of public polling data, we discovered that voters are more concerned with what candidates would support when elected to office, not what they oppose. If a candidate does not select a response to any part or all of any question, it does not necessarily indicate that the candidate is opposed to that particular item." -Project Vote Smart
Abortion Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding abortion.
a) Abortions should always be illegal.
b) Abortions should always be legal.
X c) Abortions should be legal only within the first trimester.
X d) Abortions should be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape.
X e) Abortions should be legal when the life of the woman is endangered.
f) Dilation and extraction or "partial-birth" abortion procedures should be legal.
g) Medicare, Medicaid, or federal subsidies should be prohibited from being used on abortion procedures.
X h) Other or expanded principles:
Education, health insurance, and birth control should all be provided to make abortions less necessary.
Budgetary, Spending, and Tax Issues
Indicate what federal funding levels you support for the following general categories. Select one number per category, you can use a number more than once.
1) Budget Priorities
Slightly Increase a) Agriculture
Greatly Increase b) Arts
Greatly Decrease c) Defense
Greatly Increase d) Education
Greatly Increase e) Environment
Eliminate f) FEMA
Slightly Decrease g) Homeland security
Slightly Decrease h) International aid
Slightly Increase i) Law enforcement
Slightly Increase j) Medical research
Greatly Increase k) National parks
Greatly Increase l) Public health services
Greatly Increase m) Scientific research
Slightly Increase n) Space exploration programs
Maintain Status o) Transportation and highway infrastructure
Slightly Decrease p) United Nations
Slightly Decrease q) Welfare
Greatly Increase r) Other or expanded categories
Nationalize medical care and pharmaceuticals, restrict government activity in the economy to less intrusive regulation through taxes.
2) Defense Spending
Greatly Decrease a) Armed forces personnel training
Greatly Decrease b) Intelligence operations
Greatly Decrease c) Military hardware
Slightly Decrease d) Modernization of weaponry and equipment
Greatly Decrease e) National missile defense
Slightly Increase f) Pay for active duty personnel
Maintain Status g) Programs to improve troop retention rates
Slightly Decrease h) Research and development of new weapons
Greatly Increase i) Troop and equipment readiness
Slightly Increase j) Other or expanded categories
We should continue to invest in quality equipment and training for all troops, but withdraw them from abroad as much as possible. Their services would be put to much better use serving and protecting on American soil.
3) Taxes
Indicate what federal tax levels you support for the following general categories. Select one number per tax, you can use a number more than once.
Family Income Taxes
Eliminate a) Less than $12,000
Eliminate b) $12,001-$40,000
Eliminate c) $40,001-$100,000
Eliminate d) $100,001-$180,000
Eliminate e) $180,001-$350,000
Eliminate f) $350,001 and above
Greatly Increase g) Other or expanded categories
With careful planning and application, the Flat Tax could prove an invaluable replacement for the income tax. It holds the potential to address numerous issues that are directly associated with the current taxation procedures by eliminating the source instead of patching the symptoms.
Other Taxes
Maintain Status a) Alcohol taxes
Greatly Decrease b) Capital gains taxes
Slightly Increase c) Cigarette taxes
Greatly Increase d) Corporate taxes
Slightly Decrease e) Gasoline Taxes
Slightly Decrease f) Inheritance taxes
g) Other or expanded categories
Deductions/Credits
Greatly Increase a) Charitable contribution deduction
b) Child tax credit
c) Earned income tax credit
d) Medical expense deduction
e) Mortgage deduction
f) Student loan credit
Greatly Increase g) Other or expanded categories
Technically, all of the above credits and deductions will also be eliminated by repealing income tax. However, there should be benefits associated with these items that are entirely separated from taxes, which would be addressed in the Flat Tax proposal.
Yes 4) Do you support the permanent repeal of the federal estate tax?
Yes 5) Do you support requiring the federal budget to be balanced each year?
Yes 6) Other or expanded principles
Taxes are a very effective tool in regulating aspects of the economy. This is something the previous administrations have tried to ignore or manipulate for their own purposes. Certain products and services, such as food or building materials, should be taxed as moderately as possible to avoid interfering with the natural flow of supply and demand. Luxury or detrimental items, such as sports cars or cigarettes, should be subject to higher taxes in order to offset reduced rates on necessities.
Campaign Finance and Government Reform Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding campaign finance and government reform.
X a) Support public taxpayer funding for federal candidates who comply with campaign spending limits.
b) Remove all contribution limits on federal campaigns and parties.
X c) Support prohibiting ads containing candidates' name that are paid for by third parties from airing 60 days before a primary and 30 days before a general federal election.
d) Support instant run-off voting (IRV).
X e) Support designating Election Day as a national holiday.
f) Support giving the President the power of the line item veto for items concerning appropriations.
X g) Support limiting the President’s use of signing statements in order to prevent an alternative interpretation of the bill.
X h) Support a federal shield law to protect reporter-source privilege.
X i) Other or expanded principles
Elections should not only be determined by the public, but also funded by the public. A candidate’s campaign would only be as strong as its support, which would serve to reduce the exorbitant spending that has exemplified previous elections, as well as provide proportional representation to every eligible candidate. Our government should do everything within its power to increase public awareness of alternatives to the anachronistic and ineffective bipartisan system.
Crime Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding crime.
X a) Support the use of the death penalty for federal crimes.
b) Eliminate the use of the death penalty for federal crimes.
X c) Support programs to provide prison inmates with vocational and job-related skills and job-placement assistance when released.
X d) Support programs to provide prison inmates with drug and alcohol addiction treatment.
X e) Reduce prison sentences for those who commit non-violent crimes.
X f) Support mandatory jail sentences for selling illegal drugs.
X g) Decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana.
X h) Support strict penalties for internet crime (e.g. hacking, identity theft, worms/viruses).
X i) Other or expanded principles
The judicial system has been watered down by a society gone mad with litigation. In order for the system to shed the stigma of providing “justice for the rich” and promoting the erosion of personal accountability, a severe crackdown on frivolous lawsuits should be instigated and strongly enforced.
Education Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding education.
X a) Support the federal government funding universal pre-kindergarten programs.
b) Allow parents to use vouchers to send their children to any public school.
c) Allow parents to use vouchers to send their children to any private or religious school.
d) Allow teachers and professionals to receive federal funding to establish charter or magnet schools.
X e) Increase funding for the Pell Grant program.
X f) Decrease interest rates of Stafford Loans.
X g) Support federal tax incentives to help families save for college.
X h) Ban university financial aid officers from owning stock in or accepting gifts from student loan lenders.
X i) Require universities to disclose financial relationships with lenders.
j) Support federal education standards and testing requirements for k-12 students (No Child Left Behind).
X k) Eliminate all federal education standards and testing requirements for k-12 students (No Child Left Behind).
X l) Other or expanded principles
A great deal of damage has been done to the quality and efficacy of the American educational system. The effects of the “No Child Left Behind” travesty will take years to remedy. The academic bar must be raised drastically and as expediently as possible in order for the proceeding generations of American youth to regain the advantage in this increasingly global society.
Employment Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding employment.
X a) Increase funding for national job-training programs that retrain displaced workers or teach skills needed in today’s job market.
b) Reduce government regulation of the private sector in order to encourage investment and economic expansion.
X c) Encourage employers to offer child care services, flex-time scheduling, comp-time, and unpaid leave for family emergencies.
X d) Increase the federal minimum wage.
X e) Support the right of workers to unionize.
f) Eliminate all federal programs designed to reduce unemployment.
g) Other or expanded principles
Environment and Energy Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding the environment and energy.
X a) Strengthen the regulation and enforcement of the Clean Water Act.
X b) Strengthen the regulation and enforcement of the Clean Air Act.
c) Support increased development of traditional energy resources (e.g. coal, natural gas, oil).
X d) Strengthen emission controls on all gasoline and diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
X e) Strengthen fuel efficiency standards on all gasoline and diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
f) Support domestic oil exploration in areas that are currently restricted.
X g) Encourage further development and use of alternative fuels.
X h) Support the use of ethanol as an alternative fuel.
i) Support research and development of nuclear reactors as an alternative energy source.
j) Allow energy producers to trade pollution credits under "cap and trade" laws.
X k) Support international mandatory emission targets to limit global warming.
l) Support international voluntary emission targets to limit global warming.
X m) Other or expanded principles
Alternative energy sources are the future. Period. All of those who choose to resist the inevitable change prove themselves socially, economically, and environmentally unaware. They will suffer for their shortsightedness in the onslaught of severe federal regulations, dismal consumer perception, plummeting demand, increased hostility from desperate competitors, and eventual financial implosion.
Gun Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding guns.
a) Allow individuals to carry concealed guns.
X b) Require a license to carry a concealed gun.
X c) Require a license to possess a gun.
d) Ban the sale, ownership or possession of handguns except by law enforcement or other government officials.
X e) Require gun owners to store guns in a safe or lockbox, or to have them disabled with a trigger lock.
f) Allow individuals to carry guns on college campuses.
On (g) and (h), indicate what levels you support for the following categories.
Slightly Increase g) Enforcement of existing restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
Slightly Increase h) Restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
Greatly Increase i) Other or expanded principles
It is the right of American citizens to bear arms. Infringement upon citizens’ rights is not an acceptable method of regulation. The adoption of sane, safe gun policies that emphasize careful regulation and heightened individual responsibility, as well as an increase in publicly available safety instruction, can go far in reducing gun-related crime.
Health Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding health.
X a) Implement a universal healthcare program to guarantee coverage to all Americans, regardless of income.
X b) Expand eligibility for tax-free medical savings accounts.
c) Allow the importation of prescription drugs into the United States.
X d) Support expanding prescription drug coverage under Medicare.
e) Offer tax credits to individuals and small businesses to offset the cost of insurance coverage.
X f) Support expanding child healthcare programs.
X g) Allow doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes.
h) Providing healthcare is not a responsibility of the federal government.
i) Other or expanded principles
Immigration Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding immigration.
a) Decrease the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country.
X b) Establish English as the official national language.
X c) Support a temporary worker program.
X d) Support harsher financial punishments for employers who knowingly employ illegal immigrants.
e) Support amnesty for illegal immigrants already working in the United States.
f) Illegal immigrants should have to return to their countries of origin before being considered for citizenship.
X g) Illegal immigrants should be given a pathway to citizenship.
X h) Support merit-based visas over family-based visas.
X i) Other or expanded principles
The adoption of the Flat Tax proposal would aid significantly in addressing illegal immigration by requiring all individuals, citizen or otherwise, to pay taxes based on consumption rather than mandatory income deduction. Still, the procedures for acquiring visas and/or citizenship are in place for a purpose, and should not be circumvented by any immigrant wishing permanent residence in this country. In addition, English is the primary language spoken here, as well as gradually becoming the universal language of the global economy. As such, it should be mandatory for potential citizens to attain at least a functional understanding of the English language.
International Aid, International Policy, and Trade Issues
International Aid
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding international aid.
X a) Support the United States granting aid to countries when extraordinary circumstances cause disaster and threaten civilian lives.
b) Support the United States granting aid to countries when it is in the security interests of the United States.
X c) Eliminate United States aid for any nation with documented human rights abuses.
d) Aid granted by the United States should be scaled back and eventually eliminated.
e) Other or expanded principles
International Policy
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding international policy.
No a) Should the United States continue to provide leadership in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process?
No b) Should the United States support the creation of a Palestinian state?
Yes c) Should the United States impose greater international sanctions on Iran if it continues to defy United Nations mandates?
No d) Should the United States support the Lebanese government against insurgent forces?
No e) Should the United States maintain its troop levels in Iraq?
Yes f) Should the United States withdraw its troops from Iraq?
g) Discuss your proposals for Iraq.
Complete recall of all troops in Iraq, excluding any troops the existing Iraqi government requests to stay and assist.
Yes h) Should the United States apply greater economic and diplomatic sanctions against North Korea if it fails to suspend its nuclear program?
No i) Should the United States increase financial support for Afghanistan?
No j) Should the United States increase military support for Afghanistan?
No k) Should the United States trade nuclear fuel to India for civilian purposes?
Yes l) Should the United States decrease financial support for Pakistan?
Yes m) Should the United States decrease military support for Pakistan?
No n) Should the United States be involved in bringing an end to the violence in Darfur, Sudan?
No o) Should the United States be involved in bringing an end to the violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo?

Yes q) Should the United States use sanctions to encourage the government of Zimbabwe to end its human rights abuses?
Yes r) Should the United States support the creation of an independent nation of Kosovo?
Yes s) Other or expanded principles
America has received tremendous hostility and disapproval from numerous foreign countries for decades, due to our attempts to act like a “global policeman”. Many of these countries have insulted or blatantly condemned us while simultaneously accepting our aid or benefiting from trade agreements with us. This is unacceptable. Any countries who have attacked us, associated with or harbored terrorists who have attacked us, ignored sanctions or diplomacy from us, defaulted on trade agreements with us, or have collaboratively expressed anti-American sentiments should not be allowed to benefit from American policies, trade, or assistance.
International Trade
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding international trade.
Yes a) Do you support the United States imposing economic sanctions on China?
Yes b) Do you support the United States imposing trade sanctions on Venezuela?
No c) Do you support the United States involvement in free trade agreements?
No d) Do you support the United States involvement in intergovernmental organizations dedicated to trade?
e) Other or expanded principles
National Security Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding national security.
No a) Do you support using military tribunals to try suspected terrorists when ordinary civilian courts are deemed inappropriate or impractical?
No b) Should law enforcement agencies have greater discretion to monitor domestic communications, to prevent future terrorist attacks?
Yes c) Should the United States hold foreign states accountable for terrorists who operate in their country?
No d) Should the federal government increase funding to states and cities for homeland security?
No e) Do you support pre-emptive military strikes against countries deemed to be a threat to United States national security?
No f) Do you support the creation of a federal identification card system?
No g) Do you support long-term use of National Guard troops to supplement the armed forces in assignments overseas?
No h) Should the United States expand its missile defense shield?
i) Other or expanded principles
Social Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding social issues.
Yes a) Should same-sex couples be allowed to form civil unions?
Yes b) Should same-sex couples be allowed to marry?
No c) Do you support a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman?
Yes d) Should sexual orientation be included in federal anti-discrimination laws?
Yes e) Do you support federal funding for research on existing embryonic stem cell lines?
Undecided f) Do you support federal funding to create lines of stem cells from new embryos?
No g) Should the federal government consider race and gender in government contracting decisions?
No h) Do you support affirmative action in public college admissions?
Undecided i) Should the federal government continue affirmative action programs?
No j) Should the federal government regulate internet gambling?
Yes k) Other or expanded principles
The Internet is and should remain neutral ground for individuals of every nation. Attempting any sort of in-depth regulation is fruitless, and will fail simply due to the nature of the medium.
Social Security Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding Social Security.
a) Allow workers to invest a portion of their payroll tax in private accounts that they manage themselves.
b) Ensure the viability of Social Security by increasing the payroll tax.
c) Decrease benefits paid to retirees.
d) Support proportional increases of Social Security benefits based on the cost of living index.
e) Raise the retirement age for individual eligibility to receive full Social Security benefits.
X f) Other or expanded principles
Social Security is no longer a viable institution. The Flat Tax proposal would essentially negate the influx of funds to Social Security, at which point the program should be closed, and the remaining funds allotted to pay back the citizens who paid into it.
Welfare and Poverty Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding welfare and poverty.
X a) Require welfare recipients to spend at least 40 hours a week in a combination of work and training programs.
b) Continue to give states and local governments flexibility in and responsibility for welfare programs through federal block grants.
X c) Support housing assistance for welfare recipients.
d) Abolish all federal welfare programs.
e) Other or expanded principles
Presidential Priorities
Please explain in a total of 200 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
The first priority would be to eliminate the No Child Left Behind act, and construct a replacement strategy that ensures the future of American academia. Secondly, the revision and inception of a Flat Tax, which should assist in funding all other projects that required it. Third would be the transition to alternative energy sources, and the additional regulation of relics from the non-renewable era.

International Aid
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding international aid.
X a) Support the United States granting aid to countries when extraordinary circumstances cause disaster and threaten civilian lives.

Yes r) Should the United States support the creation of an independent nation of Kosovo?
Yes s) Other or expanded principles

General | Posted 17 years agoI've recently read some journals and such by people worrying about whether or not Fallout is going to be too similar to Oblivion, or if the gameplay mechanics will hinder the experience, or if the engine blah blah blah blah yadda yadda.
To these people, I say: STOP TRYING TO BE CRITICS AND START ACTING LIKE GAMERS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!
I get so sick listening to kids (let alone adults) trying to nitpick every little minuscule detail about all the latest games that come out as though they had to defend their own "geek-cred"... and now people are questioning/bashing Fallout 3 before the game has even been released!
What the hell, people? It's freaking FALLOUT!!! Who gives a flying polka-dotted rat's ass if it bears some resemblance to Oblivion. Hello, it's a Bethesda game, it's going to have some of the same feel, no matter how hard they try to detangle it from their regular franchises.
I've been waiting for this game as long as (and in some cases, a lot longer than) any of you have... and as long as Bethesda has maintained the fundamental essence of what made 1 and 2 so totally badass, why should the engine or mechanics matter? They could build it off the original Duke Nukem 3d platform, and I would still play the hell out of it. Why? Because it's FALLOUT!!!
I think people would enjoy themselves a lot more if they spent less time analyzing games and more time playing the bloody things. Honestly, did gamers sit around and pick apart Mario Bros or Zelda when they first came out for the NES? NO. They played the games and had fun. That's what gaming is supposed to be: FUN.
Have some fun, people. Leave the petty whining to the overpaid analysts at game magazines.

Controversial Survey Meme (apparently)
General | Posted 17 years ago[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
I despise political correctness. Bring it on.
[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
I don't use drugs. I like my brain cells the way they are, thanks.
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
Pro choice, if only to save potential children the agony of growing up handicapped or perpetually sick or in broken/abusive homes.
[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
Gender has little to do with it at this point. What WILL fail is another president in office who perpetuates the same corrupt, self serving agenda that has been the mantra of almost every administration in the last 40 years or so. What we NEED is a president who will actually use his/her time in office to fix what needs fixing, rather than lining his or her own pockets and leaving an even bigger mess for the next president to clean up.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
I believe the punishment should fit the crime. If some kid shoplifts from a store, he gets some time in a cell and does some community service. If a psychopath tortures, rapes and murders another person, then a less than pleasant death should be the consequence. I guarantee you, if the justice system punished criminals with the old "eye for an eye" rule, there would be a hell of a lot less violent crime.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
I don't use it, but there is some validity to the idea of legalizing it, especially from a federal revenue standpoint. Though I'd say follow it up by outlawing cigarettes in its place.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
I'm ambivalent about it. I think that the taboo against it is the single most powerful agent in assuring its continued prevalence. If children are taught about the biological and cultural meaning of sex (premarital or otherwise) at a reasonably early age--say, around puberty or shortly before--and it is not touted as some mortal sin, they will be more likely to wait longer before trying it out.
[08] Do you believe in God?
In a roundabout way, yes.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
I think that while the concept of marriage is romantic and poignant, the practice is somewhat impractical. As far as same sex, the whole moral debate is a farce. It's little more than religious discrimination against homosexuals that is thinly disguised as a legislative dispute. The fact that the courts are allowing the circus to go on speaks volumes of how corrupt and easy to influence the justice system has become. This country was founded on the concept of freedom from religious persecution; if homosexuals follow a creed that acknowledges or is indifferent to same sex marriage, then no other religious faction has the right to deny them the freedom to pursue that belief or the matrimony that it entitles them.
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Illegal immigrants in general are a tremendous problem, Hispanics notwithstanding. The race isn't as important as the failure to follow the proper channels to come here. We need to eliminate income tax, which is one of the largest points of contention regarding illegals, and replace it with a flat tax. That way, everyone here pays taxes based on what they consume, not based on citizenship.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
No. A child does not have the maturity, the responsibility, or the financial capability to raise another child.
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
That would only serve to lower the age at which kids started drinking illegally. Rather pointless. Then again, the axiom "old enough to die for your country, old enough to drink" does have a measure of reason to it.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
The war is bullshit, as is nearly every word that has escaped Bush's lips since his first term in office. I say call back ALL of the troops, force the automotive and energy industries to convert to completely green technology, and place a trade embargo on the entire Middle East/OPEC, Venezuela, and any other country that has expressed anti-American sentiment in the last 20 years. We can supply enough of our own oil to keep ourselves running until the conversion is complete, and afterward we won't need the oil anyway.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
For the record, I think suicide is the act of a coward. However, in cases where the individual is suffering, extremely handicapped or otherwise miserable to an outlandish degree, I can see it being used for humane purposes. In that light, I'd say it should only be illegal to do it yourself. Euthanasia should be handled by medical professionals, so as not to pose inadvertent danger to others and assure a painless and effective application.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
I believe in corporal punishment when administered appropriately. Excessive and/or unnecessary spanking is no better than abuse. But the old phrase "spare the rod, spoil the child" is very true. One only needs to look around at our current society, with almost two full generations of people who accept no personal accountability for their actions and blame their problems and faults on everyone else. This is the result of some imbecilic "expert" claiming that corporal punishment "damages the children's fragile self esteem". I am living proof that whoever said that is a fucking idiot. I got spankings (in moderation) until I was almost 13 years old, and I have more confidence and self esteem than everyone I know put together.
Hey experts! Stick THAT up your flaccid assholes!
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
It's a flag. I can buy a new one. Gimme the money. :) Seriously though, the appropriate way of disposing of an American flag that has gotten too worn or tattered for use is to burn it. So technically, I could say that I was retiring an old flag to make way for a new one... and laugh my way to the bank.
[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Neither. We do not need another partisan president in office. The Bipartisan system in this country is long overdue for a pruning. We need voters to put more faith in the less recognized parties that dwell in the coveted middle ground between the Left and the Right. Libertarians, Centrists, and their counterparts all deserve a better chance to show this country what they can do. Especially Centrists. We've had this political tug-of-war going on for decades... wouldn't it be nice to have someone who was actually a proponent of balance between the two extremes?
I'm a Centrist. Vote for me.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
Anyone who reads this can judge all they want. I fear no man's opinion. I'm entitled to my views, just as they are entitled to theirs. One of the best things about opinions is that no one is required to agree with them. Inversely, I don't have to give a rat's ass about anyone's judgment of me.
To quote Alexander Hamilton, "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
The Political Goober Award
General | Posted 17 years agoWelcome to the biggest national economic catastrophe in American history to have been a direct result of the actions and policies of the governing administration.
Tonight, the honor of biggest single douche in the country goes (once again) to GW Bush, for tremendous accomplishments in:
- instigating arbitrary wars as a cover up for his own personal agenda
- throwing around taxpayer dollars as though this country was his own private piggy bank
- padding the wallets of every oil baron/corporation in the world (including his own)
- allowing federal financial regulators to completely ignore rules and operating protocol since 2004, which ultimately sparked the current Vortex of Doom formerly known as Wall Street
- proving that essentially every committee, organization, and legislation he has devised during his presidential career has been as inept and underhanded as he is
- attempting to screw over the American populace yet again with a $700 Billion dollar bailout plan for the federal financial institutions that he helped undermine, while expecting the taxpayers to pay for the whole thing
- soiling the world perception of America and its people far worse than any president or governmental scandal has before
- passing legislation that invades our privacy, outrageously lowers the bar for educating our children, and basically does everything but slap a socialist tag on the American flag
- completely failing perform his duties as President to the satisfaction of the citizens from whom he derives all of his power
- failing to make any substantial positive changes during his entire 2-term presidency
- and much, much more!
...
Is it just me, or does it seem like Dubya is doing everything he can to screw things up as much as possible before he's drummed out of office? I almost laughed aloud when I heard that the $700B bailout was rejected. That, my friends, is the voice of America saying "Fuck you, you have fucked things up enough already. We're not going to hand you that much money just so you can make it worse."
Run home to daddy, Georgie... your time in the sun is over.
What's funny is, it doesn't really matter who gets elected in to office at this point; if the successful candidate doesn't show the American people some dramatic changes, and fast, he's only going to be in for one term anyway.
I bet I can implement more noticeable change in six months than either of the prezzy wannabes can in four years. Vote for me.

LOL conversation
General | Posted 17 years agoExcept from an actual conversation I had with a friend on AIM:
***
ME: Can you imagine a live performance of Frank Miller's "300", as re-enacted by a troupe of voluptuous female nymphomaniacs with dildo-tipped spears and tear-away loincloths?
FRIEND: I think I saw the 90% male version, except it was called A Clockwork Orange. Still had the dildo-tipped spears, though. *shudder*
ME: I thought that was a lamp?

FWA IZ TEH WIN
General | Posted 18 years agoJust came back from FWA (pronounced "fwah", for those who attended XD), and I can honestly say I had a blast. Lots of fun from start to finish, met lots of cool people and chilled with some that I already knew, and just had an all-around enjoyable time. Highlights included:
-Meeting Gideon, one of the artists I've been watching since (literally) the turn of the century
-Sitting in on panels featuring Bonk, and learning some of his methods of making kick-ass artz (and then getting a poster signed by him)
-Socializing with Furgeta, who flew all the way from freaking CANADA to attend the Con (and getting sneak peeks at stuff he hasn't even posted online yet)
-Meeting new friends and local furs, and getting hints at potential social gatherings of furry persuasion happening soon in my area (or within tolerable travel distance)
-Doing an art trade with 404, and opening channels for trades with other folks at a later time
-Getting all kinds of ideas of stuff to make for (and then sell at) the next FWA or any other Con I attend
And so on. This was my first Furry Con, and now I'm really looking forward to the next one. Shout out to everyone who FWA'd! Rawr :)
