Posted 10 years agoHey friends! It's been a while, and I apologise for that. I switched computers, had to remember my password for this account, am dealing with internet providers that block FA on tuesdays when they feel like it...etc. haha.
So!
I'm graduating with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from BYUI. my gallery opening is March 24th! so if any of you are around the general area of rexburg at that time, feel free to check it out! It'll be open until April 8th.
I'll upload my official 'invitation' here once I find out for sure which area my show will be.

My guilt +Life Update

I am not on as much as I probably should and so behind on uploading new stuff that it's actually quite intimidating- where do I start? what should I leave out/not bother uploading? this train of thought keeps up until I just...don't...upload at all. oops. haha! I better just start I guess.
Comment on this journal or note me asking about this and I will:
1. Tell you what animal/creature you remind me of. (Golden retriever, you know, the ones with the semi-curly longer hair? yeah those ones. the friendly nice ones.)
2. Tell you what colour I think fits you. (This one is sortof difficult, actually. The color of Larkspurs when they turn in the fall is just a little too dark for you, but the fields as they begin to rest are too light a color. Maybe the fall corn stalks in a slightly foggy sunset light- providing it's not too orange)
3. Tell you how I feel about you. (Baffled mostly- I never thought I could have a really great long term internet friend and yet, here you are! Proud, because i know you've been through some struggles but you're so honest about them. I really admire that about you.)
4. Insult you. (You underestimate your potential and skills far too often, you fluffy headed goob)
5. Tell you my favourite OC of yours. (do you have any oc's other than Kami? I'm trying to remember...)
6. Tell you what season you remind me of. (the beginning of autumn, where things are starting to change and fall but you can still be surprised by new green growths)
7. Tell you what food you smell like in my head. (Somewhere between Cumin and Curry? that's not quite right but you get the idea)
8. Think of a random nickname for you. (You've been Kami for so long to me I have no Idea. Chicken nugget? Pigeon? Yam-Yams? yeah lets go with Yam-Yams)
9. Tell you what element you remind me of. (Earth, but the Yellow kind. Like sand and wheat and that soft saffron stone)

My Job Life Updates:
[caution giant rant ahead]
Finally got a legit job (been doing temp work and yardwork etc type stuff in the meantime. All I have to say is those people who push carts all day all week for a job are gods. GODS I TELL YOU. that was hands down the worst temp job I have ever had and it was 1 day. 6 hours straight. I was so dehydrated and exhausted by the end of it. I had bruises ALL up and down my shins and blisters on my toes so big they looked like mushrooms or additional toes were growing. [it was rainy the day I did it, so wet feet+carts running over already blistering feet = mushroom toe)every time I accidentally knocked my shin I almost cried it hurt so bad. and I only got a 15 minute break for lunch- seriously I have no explanation for how I even got through that shift other than god must have sent help because I was counting the minutes man, I was counting the minutes. I have no Idea how I was able to drag myself back downstairs for the last 4 hours. it was awful. I appreciate those people so much more now. and you can bet your butt nuggets that I will be grabbing carts from the cart return to use rather than waiting till I get in the store to grab one.
anyway, got a non-temp real job a a sushi restaurant bussing tables! :) so I'm happy about that. still has it's tough points but hey, what job doesn't? and college sure as heck doesn't pay for itself!
Been busy- my brother got home from England where he was serving a 2 year mission for our church so It's been a blast having him around again (he's the next sibling right after me so yeah) for the 1st month I was home there were crazy things happening left and right- it felt like an entire summer was packed into that 1 month! then my two married older sisters and their kids visited and then my parents decided to visit england with my bro (and younger sister went too) while I was left at home with the youngest 2 bros (that sorta sucked- I've always wanted to travel abroad but am too chicken to go on my own) then came my birthday, then came to job hunting, then came Halloween costume planning/making and Inktober(still in the middle of that) not to mention I'm still finishing up that book illustration commission for my sister...I feel like I've been going a million miles an hour for ages (but at the same time, that I've been slacking because there is so much to do sometimes I take a whole or half day and just read or watch netflix or whatever but then I feel guilty- I just need a break man XD I really want to do a bunch of animation projects (and I NEED to get started on my BFA again) but I can't do that because my laptop is so old and crappy it can barely handle my old SAI program much less animation seoftware and photoshop cc.
IM WHINING A LOT BUT REALLY LIFE IS GOOD I SWEAR. I'm just tired a lot- physically and mentally. Partly because I'm trying to get myself back into shape (sitting on the couch doing art all day does not a healthy physique make) and not sleeping properly (for my body anyway. I gotta have 8 hours consistently. & since I'm at home for my break that means I get woken up at 7:30 or earlier every morning by le family whyyyyy)[sorry I'm whining AGAIN]
so anyway. there's that. aaaand I wrote a lot of drivel and I'm sorta tired so I'll end this journal with that XD
Also Including "Yam-Yam's" s answers to the questions about me because they were just so nice :)
1. I know you're all about owls, but you've always struck me as a red panda, even beyond Kichi. Just the way you doddle about draws a parallel in my head.
2. I would say a crystal blue, like you might see at a mountain lake. Something very pure.
3. I consider it a tremendous privilege to know you. Every time I watch you grow along your path I feel like I'm witnessing history. That and you're pretty cool.
4. You're super-wholesome in a June Cleaver kind of way.
5. I've always enjoyed watching you draw yourself! You always look so free in your own work. Kichi if that doesn't count.
6. You remind me of the point in autumn just right before it gets cold, when many of the leaves have fallen away but it's not cold yet.
7. Somehow I see you smelling of ginger.
8. You already have so many! Hmm..... how about the Owlpress?
9. You remind me of the Wind. Soft and gentle, but occasionally in a rather violent hurry.

Posted 10 years agoHey all! soooo Life has been one crazy ride lately!
I got home and my brother returned the day after (he was serving a mission for our church over in England, so we hadn't seen him in 2 years!) so super fun stuff :D
and my grandparents (from my moms side) came up for that and then my aunt/uncle/cousins from my dads side came up and are visiting now
I haven't even unpacked my clothes and junk yet holy cow
but yeah! good stuff!
Got
ladymacbeth's commission done and sent off before I left the 'Burg. I'm sortof amazed I was able to get everything done before I left, to be honest. So many things! Also there is a recent acquisition of a boy in my life (nothing official but we spent pretty much every day together at some point before I left and he's planning on coming to visit me at home in august, so yeah. mutual feelings and all that) So that took up even more time XD it's a miracle everything got sorted before I returned to MT! But I am so not complaining. This guy is extremely respectful of me & isn't rushing things which is nice. It's practically like someone gave him a manual on how to court me so to speak. it's hilarious and wonderful :)
Bottom line: Life is pretty Daaaaang good right now and even though it's a little hard being treated like a kid again by the parentals I can't really complain about where I'm at!

The Violent Blue & the reasons why I haven't been updating

Been busy. like, off the walls busy. As in I leave my apt around 7-8 am and come back around midnight. that's pretty much my life. The simple animation thing kindof expanded- I got my scene done a week in advance but ended up being assigned to color a bunch of other scenes because we had some animators crap out on us and now their problems are my problem. oh the joys of working on a team. (it's being presented on the 9th, sooo...SUPER crunch time! I feel so bad for our compositor and sound/fx people) I apologize to those of you who are waiting on things from me. I was supposed to be done with everything for the animation on the 20th at the latest last month! but as you can see, stuff happens. On the upside, it's looking GREAT! if anyone is in the Rexburg Idaho area around the 9th you should consider coming to the screening & BFA show!
The short film is about 3 minutes long and entitled 'The Violent Blue'. I personally animated about 11 seconds of it and colored around 1/3-1/2 of the total animation. It should be online in a couple weeks or so!
On the downside, my laptop (which is my tablet. it's a lenovo x200 tablet laptop thingy and it's old and dying so....) keeps forgetting that it is a tablet- aka the pressure sensitivity or the pen will stop working. usually a system restore to a previous stage fixes it, but this time it didn't. (I think the automatic updates are messing up everything). This is making it reaaaally hard to do my BFA homework on time and commissions- as I can't use the school computers since they do not have paint tool sai. not to mention my sai is kindof customized.
My brother comes home from his mission July 22nd! (he's been in england for the past 2 years!) and I am so excited to be able to see him again! that means I'll be leaving school about a week early though, so I will be crazy busy right up until I leave! STRESS but also excitement! my life got complicated reeeaaaalll fast. *le sigh* on the upside though I will probably be getting a new laptop when I get home to replace this one. I'm hoping that I'll be able to find something that works for me!
so anyway, that's me! see you all in a month or so when my life slows down a little *_*
Commissions:
ABC's of Fairytales (almost complete! 2 more pages and the title page and then I will be finished!) digitally done paper illustrations (I'll maybe upload some of the pages here once I have time...which means maybe not for another month)
A pair of Soul animal commissions for the lovely ladymacbeth (in progress, early stages) sketches are done and approved, started on the backgrounds. I'm gunning for finishing these before I go home! (on the 21st of this month) so I'm really hoping to figure out my computer troubles, if not I don't know what I'm going to do.

So I am a character animator for an animated short to be titled 'The Violent Blue'. This is the BFA project of a fellow student and we basically have come together to make a mini studio/team. Things are going to be a little crazy for a while but I will finally get some real animation experience! I went to the Launch Party tonight and met some of the other students (some have already graduated so are technically not students I guess) on the team and It looks like it will be a wild ride, i'm so excited :D
Also fun update, I entered a piece in a House show in Utah last weekend and it sold!!! super stoked about that :)
Also for the second time my peice for digital illustration was selected to go on the wall! (this basically means mine was in the top 5 best of the class and the teacher liked it enough to display :D ) I'm hoping to keep this streak going as long as I can :)
basically it feels like my life is starting to come together as an artist, and I'm really happy and excited for the future! This semester is going to be hecka busy but also hecka fun!

Anyway so in the next months y'all should be seeing a hecka lot more stuff from me (also since this semester I'm goign to be doing more digital work yay) also fun story I got a commission so that money should be coming int he mail soon hallelujah (can't remember if I wrote about it before or not and I'm too lazy to check bc I am tired and getting over a sinus infection. this year has been ridiculous with me getting sick I usually don't and it's driving me nuts that all the sudden I am apparently falling apart someone get an extended warranty for my health XD but I digress)
I officially start my BFA project this semester so things will probably get real busy again for a while (which is not good cuz my book-reading addiction has flared up crazy bad over the last couple of weeks haha oops [not to mention I have a literal list of tv shows I'm keeping up on/gotta check out/ etc])
also dud new star wars movie trailer eeeeey I'm super excited because A. I was raised off that stuff and B. main characters look like they will be a female and a poc so that's cool and C. Harrison ford and Mark hammil are baaaaack (speaking of mark hammil, anyone else just die at the flash episode with teh trickster when mark hammil did the 'I am your father' line? bc I was laughin my pants off also dude the totally pulled the whole 'it's a bird! it's a plane!' thing bc ray/the atom's actor was in the superman reboot I love those little references man it's the best)
oh and D. my suspension of belief is pretty good so if i wanna enjoy a movie i will I'm not really a film snob (but don't ever speak to me about eragon or the ALTA movie those are very much exceptions and I think we can all agree that they were terrible. I could at least laugh a bit at the ATLA movie bc I watch rufftoons DA and she worked ont he ATLA actual tv series and she made some hilarious comics pointing out the terribleness and funny failures of the movie) ps do not ever watch a movie called the tower of the firstborn the entire thing was a lie and too long and just aweful (actually I only saw like the first 10 minutes cuz I got tired and went to sleep but my family that stayed up to suffer through it assured me it was absolutely terrible)

also next semester I start my BFA project *screams* I'm excited and terrified Idk even
also!!! the LA travel study was SUPER FUN!!!!! I got to stand on a beach and be int he ocean for the FIRST TIME and it was GREAT and now I want to visit california again ;A; and all the museums were crazy amazing and the Huntington gardens were fabulous and I bought myself a brass birdskull necklace as my lone souvenir and It was like 92 everyday and it was just downright beautiful. Also I got to read half of Words of Radience by brandon sanderson and the trip back so the 7 hour car ride was nothing. and I got to visit my birthplace for the first time (we moved from vegas 2 weeks after I was born) so it was really cool all around. lots of new experiences, lots of cool art, warm weather and good food, basically paradise (except I was exhausted and over-stimulated by all the new stuff and art and my feet hurt but really who cares about stuff like that? It was GREAT)
and I have been talking, and we're probably going to do a joint patreon. Spirit Animals?
Posted 11 years agoLately I've been really wanting to do more 'spirit animal' works, like the one I did for Kim (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14608118/) It was really fun to incorporate the buffalo and have interaction between the two. I'm currently sketching one for me
idk, anyone want to commission me for something like that? you+your spirit animal? I'm feeling more large scale animals (bear, etc) but it would be fun and challenging to do smaller ones too.
I'm thinking $20.

life update (big news!!!)
Posted 11 years agoSO first things first: I GOT INTO THE BFA PROGRAM!!!! my portfolio was reviewed and I was deemed worthy :D
this means when I graduate school I will also be part of the BFA gallery showing, aka basically I will have my own little gallery showing of my work :) and I can now get into a grad school if I so choose.
second: I am now back in my college town, my sister just had a baby (and she is an adorable little jelly-bean, let me tell you) and I will be helpiong take care of said adorable jelly bean.
commissions as always are open. unless something crazy comes up I can finish things in a week, there is no waiting list currently.
((also side note anyone else watching and loving 'the flash' ? because it's great I tell you. also gravity falls. loooooove me some gravity falls))

Posted 11 years agoYou probably noticed the sudden influx of artwork I've putting out- not only am I participating in the tumblr 'spoopyartchallenge' but also I am getting my portfolio together to apply for the BFA (Bachelor of fine arts program at my college). So things have been a little crazy and stressful. I hope you all are enjoying my new style of coloring and the new works. As always, commissions are open.

Posted 11 years agosorry. minecraft stole my soul. okay okay mostly I have been awol because I got a legit job and work all the time and am tired and stuff. but MONEY is good, particularly when you have to go to college and live places and buy food. you know the drill.
still waiting to hear back from the copyright people as far as silence and sound goes.
and I'm really in the 'traditonal-art' mood but like a complete doof I left all my stuff in Rexburg because I'll be back there in November..... I JUST NEED TO WATERCOLOR BECAUSE OF REASONS UGH. maybe I'll stop by my old high school and see if Mr. C will let me 'borrow' some stuff for a bit- I need to say hi to him and catch up anyway.

Life update
Posted 11 years agoI got a job! I'm now a busser at an italian restaurant called 'Ciao Mambos' It's hard work tbh especially for someone as short as me, with tiny hands, but I get by. My feet hurt by the end of my shift but hey, it's to be expected. I'm in the middle of expo training and let me tell you, I miss bussing. I wasn't built to carry more than 2 heavvy hot plates, and sometimes I wonder how I could even handle two ;A; but it's paying for my last year of college so I am very grateful to have it!
This week I will be able to finally do some art and live a bit though, since I'm off for a family reunion! I'm finally going to visit mt Rushmore so I'm pretty excited about that. I'm halfway through like, 3 artworks right now and have some sketches to scan in (that will have to wait till get home to my scanner though, sorry)
and silence and sound is currently undergoing copyright filing! the fees are paid, the stuffs uploading, I'm just waiting to hear back from them :)
also p.s. billings sucks. There are WAY too many one way streets and I swear a drunk architect built this place it is impossible to navigate around.

A Literal FLOOD and finals
Posted 11 years agoSo, I just realized about 85% of my week involved water.
Monday I went bridge jumping! I think they said the bridge was at least 25 feet tall? but I was a total goof and forgot that you should do the pencil dive and landed right on my thighs/butt and had massive bruises to show XD.
On tuesday RExburg flooded like CRAZY. there was this insane freak hail/rainstorm and you could tell where the grates in the road were because water was shooting out of them like fountains rather than draining! I was in the sporri when it happened and that building has a huge skylight and it was so loud! and I had my laptop with me and it would have been toast if my roomie renelle hadn't gotten me. that was the day I wore a skirt and heels too, so I pulled of the heels and went barefoot because the hail was the size of quarters and I KNEW I'd twist an ankle. also thank goodness I wear my little black shorts under my skirts because that thing was SEE THROUGH by the time the rain was done =3= we had to bail out the apartments a few doors down from us, but thankfully no one I know lost anything, but the carpet in apts 101-105 is ripped out. in other places there were some people that lost everything though, and were at least waist deep in water because they had basement apartments. some people were just floating around or on their paddle boards or kyaks... thankfully I'm further up the hill and it didn't really affect us! Flash floods be CRAY CRAY. it's been pretty insane over here! campus was hit hard but they didn't cancel school or finals! evil!!! I think godwas saying 'let there be no finals' but byui is worse than my old high school when it comes to canceling school. DX
Wednesday for the last day of swim lass we went snorkeling, and on saturday My roomate Renelle and I and my neighbor went to the lake to chill, which was fun. (bruises look like I have red and yellow reptile skin so I guess my cover is blown XD by today they were faded quite a bit more though)
also I'm freaking out a little bit because I have so much I have to get done tomorrow and so little time!!!!!
I only have 1 class to do things for BUT in that class I have like, 3 finals =3= which is so not cool but my teacher has the CRAZIEST schedule EVER. seriously he's INSANE.
I have to finish my animation, (which includes making the music but I suck at fl studio and am having a hard time figuring it out and all the other music programs aren't working) ,do a full color illustration, put together the production bible and file for my copyright (which costs $55 rather than $30 because they JUST changed it ugh) ALL BY TUESDAY. THEN I HAVE TO PACK AND BE READY TO LEAVE WEDNESDAY
...TOO MANY THINGS
but Expect a buttload of art around wednesday, because that's when I will have time to upload all this stuff! also I have another installment of the little copper sketchbook to do (would have uploaded it earlier but the library got a new scanner and it's got an an 'auto detect' feature that completely failed with my sketchbook scans. )

Spring semester: Updates, commissions and more

so spring semester started, and it's breaking the bank. going to have to donate plasma twice a week it looks like, in order to buy groceries. also this semester looks like it's going to be pretty crazy despite the fact that I am taking only 2 studio classes rather than 3. such is the pain of getting into higher level classes and going to byu-i where even the lower level classes give out an insane amount of homework.
tl;dr mony is tight, commissions would be appreciated. complaining about school XD
also I've gotten my laptop fixed up so I feel like I should be able to do digital things more and faster! yaaaay!
If you see any piece in my gallery/scraps/anywhere that you really like and would like to get a commission similar to the style/layout of it, note me for a quote! for example, if you liked the typography+sketch thing I've been doing lately (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13282849/) I can do something to that effect for you, digitally or traditionally.
I can do furries, and feel like I've improved on them (ex: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13206237/) and am totally willing to try and take on drawing more varieties and other stylized ones.
update on life: so my entertainment illustration class looks like it will be a TON of fun (but also a crazy amount of work!) and it's basically going to be me working on my ''bellestorm project' which WILL get a better/more permanent name (also will be copyrighted by me so that will be great. though it will cost but it's a requirement for the class) taking creative perspective which will force me to practice environments and whatnot as well, and a web design/development class that will probably make me actually make my own artist website. also art history (interesting) and a religion class (not so much, but a requirement for my uni) I'm also taking art seminar, world dance, and water areobics so I will be in shape soon!
Also, I'm doing a WOLF PAINTING for my roomate, so expect to see that sometime soon-ish. It's already approx. halfway done and I'm liking it a lot- if you request I could take a process photo and upload it. I can do traditional commissions (like paintings and stuff) but the cost of shipping and the materials will drive the price up quite a bit.

Posted 11 years agoI got pretty good grades on all my finals- art finals in the A and B range, got a 90% on my test I took tonight, and I officially don't have anything on my to-do list except pack (and get some last minute hang-out time with my people up here!)
that being said, commissions are very much open! and I'll be uploading pictures of books I've been making this semester (when I was procrastinating taking that last test today I may have watched 20 odd episodes of shamen king while making 3 1/2 books... XD they are super fun to make- coptic stitch binding with copper plate covers and fun different types of papers.)
Anyway, I would love to hear from you all! also, I've decided that I will start setting aside 10% of all commissions I get to put towards a 'go to disney land /a convention with Ruby/ Basil/jabbershire someday' fund. because Jabbershire just went to visit ruby and I am so ridiculously jealous and the pictures look like they had a BLAST and SO HELP ME I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO AN AMUSEMENT PARK MUCH LESS A DISNEY PLACE AND THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN WITH MY PEOPLE. so there. also my sister may or may not be moving to arizona in the next year or two so when I eventually visit them I want to have funds to be able to swing by and say hi to my wonderful ruby! (also, if I go there at the right time it could be during a convention and I could meet some of you for once!
that being said, commissions are very much open! and I'll be uploading pictures of books I've been making this semester (when I was procrastinating taking that last test today I may have watched 20 odd episodes of shamen king while making 3 1/2 books... XD they are super fun to make- coptic stitch binding with copper plate covers and fun different types of papers.)

Posted 12 years agoHey guysssss so for my intro to illustration class I have to fill 5 pages of a sketchbook per week. So far I am managing but I may run out of ideas (and hey, why not have homework also be commissions so I can earn a little extra grocery money? and not have to donate plasma. also things. things are fun to buy. anyway)
SO
$5, $10, and $15 commissions. traditional, Sketchbook (I need my sketchbook intact for class, so it'd be scans of it only)
I will scan in my sketchbook either tomorrow or sometime tonight (if possible) so you can see examples of what I'm doing in it currently.

$5 - chibi animal/human character (1/4 to 1/2 a page)
$10 - 2-3 chibis or a single character (full page) [depending on difficulty/time used, may also get a simple background]
$15- single character, shaded, decorative background. may have optional color added in via prisma color (full page) OR two characters with a simple background (like crosshatch etc)
**edit** $20 is you want me to add in color digitally (like Kami yama's) after I do the sketch single character shaded/decorativebackground or 2 characters simple backgound
again, I will post pictures as examples as soon as I get my sketchbook pages scanned in
I use red,black, and blue pen so the picture may be done in those ink colors, with prisma colors added in

updates on my life: I can now make baby books! go me! they are cute and fun, but I broke my awl already >8C grrrr. I really didn't want to buy one (the awls are supposed to come with the class and are included in the class fee, but we made ours and they are super cheap.) **edit** so the awl situation has been fixed. also baby books are cool. maybe I will upload a picture of some of my books I have made so far :>
I am taking a social dance class, and currently can do basic things in fox-trot and swing. wooo!
color&design has a lot of homework, but so far I'm keeping up. **edit** now can also do waltz and cha cha :D

sleep: already in sleep-deprivation state. I'm starting to nap if I sit down for longer than 15 minutes. not a good sign for this semester. I am going to have permanent death-baggies under my eyes at this rate. but my roomates are super cool, so there is that :) also, tonight I get free pizza. bring it on. **edit** doing better on sleep- roomate is engaged which is cool.
Did I mention my university quidditch t-shirts? I want one. because of reasons. Also Frozen is awesome and creates the best roomate-bonding nights. We've been singing the songs all week. **edit** got a quidditch sweatshirt! I've been wearing it soooo much these past couple of weeks. Aslo got a pair of good cute combat boots that are really comfortable, havn't given me any blisters, are great for wlaking around campus and dancing in 20/10 yes would recommend so much.
