Attempt to clear the air...
Posted 11 years agoI'm not a perfect human being by any stretch of the imagination, and I may be getting less and less so by the day, but I've never intentionally gone out of my way to make someone feel bad. We all have our own opinions, especially bad ones, and I may on occasion say the wrong thing at the wrong time. It's not in my nature to do such a thing with malicious intent, and I'm really sorry if I've ever come off as being a douchebag for the sake of being a douchebag. It's never been on purpose.
If I've ever said something hurtful, or that you've taken in a way that I certainly didn't intend, please let me know. I've made some mistakes and I've burned some bridges, and while I've tried to mend them I've been left hanging. If I've insulted your taste in art, I apologize. If I've made fun of a fandom or television show that you happen to enjoy, I'm deeply sorry. We all have our guilty pleasures and mine are no better and no more superior to any of yours.
If I have insulted your art skill or process then I was completely out of line and I had no business offering an opinion where it wasn't asked for in the first place. If you do want my critique, I'll gladly give it, but know that I'm still very much learning how to make art myself. If my taste in art happens to not be in line with yours, then my opinion is totally moot.
I am always so inspired and awed by the artwork this fandom has to offer. Every single day I stumble across amazing artists. Some who could be working for major animation studios! I also stumble across "budding artists" who may not yet be a Van Gogh, but have so much charm and potential and spark in their work that I can just tell that they are going to go on to do amazing things, and I am so glad that I am lucky enough to watch their development. If I've ever said to any of you that I liked a style you were doing in he past more than what you're doing today, you have every right to slap me. We're all on a journey together and without pitstops along the way, the destination would be pretty damned boring.
I only started drawing myself ten years ago, I couldn't draw a stick figure all through high school and was completely convinced that I would never/could never learn how to draw. I've proven myself wrong, and I've proven everyone who might have convinced themselves of the same thing. I might be in a bit of a stagnant place with my art at the moment, but hopefully eventually I'll break out of it. Until then, if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to try new things. Tear me down if you need to, I can't change what's wrong if I don't know why it's wrong to begin with. To those of you struggling to improve your own art, just keep at it, the only way your art will improve is to just do it, keep creating!
Thank you all for sharing the amazing things you create, without such a talented community, I'd probably have given up on making art long ago.

Away for the weekend
Posted 11 years agoWork is sending me to New York City at the last minute, so no art from me this weekend.
Commissions
Posted 11 years agoI keep getting notes from people asking me if I'm open for commissions.
I'm always open. I plan to be always open, unless by some chance my art becomes immensely more popular than it is at the moment. My prices are listed in my Commission Info tab: http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/goldenrod/
I pretty much only reserve slots these days for special commissions, like the 45 badges that I'm working on. I also have a few other special commission types that I'm working up examples for.
Also, I'm looking for a guinea pig for the "Mystery Envelope" commission http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5265144/
If you're interested in any type of commission, send me a note here, or on Weasyl.

45 record badge commissions CLOSED
Posted 11 years agoFor those of you that were at BLFC, you might have run into
henrieke while she was wearing the 45 Badge that I made her. I really wanted to make more of those badges, but I had zero time for art during the month of March. I still want to make some more 45 badges, as they are really fun to do so I figured I'd take commission for them.
If you didn't see the badge in person (it looks way better in person) http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12918203/ here it is.
I'll take five slots for these to be completed by the end of April, and another five slots to be completed by the end of May. They are $40 shipped if you live in the US, $35 + $5 shipping. If you are in Europe or outside the US, I can get shipping estimates for your specific location. If you are going to be attending Califur, I can deliver them in person, and it'll be $35
These are oil on an actual 45 RPM record, the paint lands only in the grooves, and so dead wax in the lead in and runout grooves will remain unpainted. I have a stack of very thrashed 45s that I bought for my collection, but are in such rough shape that I wouldn't subject even my worst stylus to. The oil takes from 3-5 days to dry, and I am sealing them with Grumbacher matte fixative after the oil has dried, and as such these are not quick turnaround.
If you have a pose idea for the way the character wraps, or fits onto the record, I am open for suggestions.

BLFC Meme!
Posted 11 years agoWhere are you staying?
At the hotel thing
How long are you going?
3:00PM Friday thru 5PM Sunday
How are you traveling?
Plane!
Who are you rooming with?
Me, myself and I
What is your gender?
I'm a dude
How tall are you?
5'9"
How is the best way to find you?
Look for the badges with the yellow fox guy
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Just come up and say "Hi" I guess.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Not likely. I go to cons to socialize, and not for the programming.
Will you be going to parties?
Possibly
Will you be performing?
Unless there is a piano in the lobby I can pound on, probably not.
Will you be fursuiting?
Sadly, no
Do you do free art/trades/commissions?
I might do a sketchtrade if you catch me when I'm not too busy.
Do you have an artist table?
No.
Are you mated/in a relationship?
No, and not interested.
Can I talk to you?
Sure.
Can I touch you?
A friendly hug, sure... anything more than that, NO!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hugs only. I don't snuggle.
Can I buy you drinks?
You totally can!
Can I give you stuff?
Sure!
Are you nice?
I try to be.
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
Just hanging out and chatting with folks, probably.
What/where will you be eating?
I have no idea, and I'd prefer if folks didn't invite themselves to meals with me- especially if I hardly know you.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
See the previous answer. Inviting yourself to lunch/dinner is the easiest way to tick me off.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
Sure.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
I love having folks draw in my sketchbook!
Can I take your picture?
As long as you can be not-creepy about it.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Just to have a good time.

How to spot me at FC
Posted 12 years agoThis FC will be my 11th time attending, but the first time I'm returning to the con in three years...
If you've never run into me at FC before (or at any con), this is how you might be able to spot me:
I will be wearing an assortment of badges during the con. I've accumulated quite a few over the years, and I will probably be rotating them out over four days, but one I should always have on will be this badge http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12437862/
I used to dress like my character pretty often, and would wear Hawaiian shirts throughout most cons... this year you might catch me in a Hawaiian shirt maybe one of the days. I have some fun t-shirts I'll be wearing this year. I'm not going to post a RL photo of myself, but here's the next best thing https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u.....1191/blake.png This was a "humansona" badge that
moredena drew for me at Conifur 2005. I still look about the same nine years later.
If I'm trying to be incognito, you might be able to spot me from a button on my backpack https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u.....ldiebutton.png I usually will de-badge when leaving the hotel for dinner, but the buttons will still be on my backpack.
If you want to arrange a meeting, the best thing to do would be to tweet at me. crazyyellowfox

hoodah
Who are you rooming with?
dragonvee
sammichez
snafu223
foxpaws-zupe
Where will you be? How best to find me?
I don't know... I don't really have anything set in stone. I might be hanging around the artists' lounge a bit, but other than that, I'm up in the air.
Who will you be with?
This is also up in the air
Which suit(s) will you be bringing?
None
Do you do free art?
Sketch trades possibly... free art no.
What is your gender?
I'm a dude.
How old are you?
34, getting kinda old to be going to these things. :P
How tall are you?
5'9"
Can I talk to you?
Absolutely not!
Can I hug and/or snuggle you?
Only if I know you personally. (and I don't mean we've chatted online once or twice) I don't do hugs from complete strangers, if you're unsure then it's probably best to keep your hands to yourself.
Are you nice?
Absolutely!
Are you cliquey?
Not particularly, I like to think I'm very approachable.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Hmm, if you have to ask, maybe socializing isn't quite up your alley. :P
Are you fursuiting?
Since I'm not bringing my suit along, probably not.
Can I ask ya to dance with me during the dances?
I have two left feet.
Can I buy you drinks?
Sure!
Do you attend parties?
Depends...
Can I take your picture?
Umm... if you can be not-creepy about it, sure.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
To see some folks I haven't seen in more than a year, meet a couple folks I've never had the opportunity to meet in person before, get some art from some dealers, hopefully do a couple sketch trades... the usual stuff.
PLEASE DON'T INVITE YOURSELF TO DINNER. THIS IS MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!

Posted 12 years agoGuinea pigs for "Mystery Envelope" commissions
Posted 12 years agoSo, I'm looking for two guinea pigs for that commission offering I was thinking about yesterday. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5260152/
To start, I want to make sure that I have some characters that I can have fun with, so if you're interested, leave a comment with a link to the character and/or characters you might be interested in seeing me draw.
These are going to be $35 for now, but after I finish these, I may make it $40, depends on how this goes.
Caveats: You need to be somewhere in the contiguous US States. This is only for this round, and once these turn out successful I will try to include other locations. You need not be in any hurry for this art... Being that this is for real media and I am DOG SLOW at real media, I will probably not get these in the mail until the end or December or early January.

Crazy commission idea...
Posted 12 years agoSo I'm thinking of offering a new type of commission... Sort of an incentive to get myself working more with traditional media, and maybe something fun for the commissioners.
Here's the concept:
$35-40 for a "mystery envelope" commission. Basically, what you're commissioning is a complete mystery. It could be a single traditional piece, multiple traditional pieces, digital pieces or even a mix. In addition I'll probably throw in some of my loose traditional sketches done previously that I think the commissioner might like.
...have I lost you yet? Well let me try and explain it a little more- So you know those UPS or FedEx letter envelopes? I will make a piece or (most likely) multiple pieces of art to fill one of those envelopes and mail off when completed. This is real physical art. Or at least one of the included pieces will be traditonal media. If any added art happens to be digital; say, thumbnails or WIPs of the traditional piece(s) they will be included on a CD.
Here's the rub: The commissioner will only provide me with (1.) character design references for one or more characters, (2.) what they particularly like to see in art (species, anthro, feral, toony, sketchy, inked, colored, doodles) and (3.) Their address for the completed artwork to be mailed to.
The mediums will of course be a mystery. I have a ton of art supplies I never use, and so you could be getting conte crayon drawings, watercolor, colored pencil or even oil on canvas (oil pieces will be on smallish canvases... something likely to fit in a FedEx envelope or padded pack.
I should add at the $35-40 price would be for US addresses only and that locations outside of the US would be more, I just need to figure out how much more.
So... any thoughts? Would anyone be interested in such a thing?

Posted 12 years agoThree full color commission slots open $20 (FILLED)
Posted 12 years agoSo, after upgrading to Mavericks on my 4-year-old Mac Mini I can no longer smoothly sketch in opencanvas using vmware Fusion. It's just way too laggy. (oC does still run fine in bootcamp, but I can't stand streaming from Windows) I found a great new app that natively runs in Mac OS and runs nice and smoothly- Mischief. Only thing is it's $65... I'm gonna go ahead and buy a license for it, but to help cover the cost I'm taking three full-color commissions for $20 a piece. See my last few colored submissions for examples. Note me if you are interested in one!

She posted a Pokemon starter fanart piece over the weekend that got 17,000+ notes, yet she still has fewer than 300 followers on tumblr. That has me scratching my head so much. But go see for yourself how much talent she has!!!
