Otter Ott Bitch Fest 2013 (and things)
Posted 12 years agoI rarely make journals on FA. I dislike doing so. Mainly because you can't filter between art submissions and journal submissions with FA. There are some people I want to follow because I enjoy their art - however, as horrible as this sounds, I don't really care about them buying a new bike or going to a con - I like their art and that is that. Likewise, I have friends whom I'd love to be able to follow their journals.. but they get lost in the sea of "STREAM NOW" or "HELP ME I'M BROKE AGAIN" posts from the ton of people I watch for my fappy times. ANYWAY..
Life has been interesting these past few years. I've lost a good job, lived a crazy-ass life-style in a very communal apartment with some awesome people, moved to and lived/worked on an island for a month, nearly been homeless, went through a rough break-up, made and lost new friends, and I am still ticking onward.
Currently I'm trying to hammer down a job with Staples in their Copy and Print department (I've done the work previously and really loved it). It seems to be going through, albeit really slowly. Webbed fingers are crossed.
I live in an apartment with several other people. My ex
threerandomwords, and a straight non-furry couple. We recently booted a 5th roommate to the curb for lack of personal hygiene and a general lack of caring rather or not anything near him was clean. To give a rough impression of him, you'd wish him a good morning and usually get a "yup" in response. He had a bedroom, but usually slept on the couch in the livingroom. We scolded him over this countless times, but he usually only worked for a few days time. He'd bath about once a month, so stank something horrible. Was the type of situation where you didn't want to bring people around because you were ashamed of him. He is finally gone, though. woot woot. Now we have to deal with the house female never cleaning up after herself when she cooks. She has this mentality that if she cooks food (even if it isn't for any of us), then she shouldn't have to clean. She recently left a half-used stick of butter with the butter knife still in it for over 24 hours before I finally put it back in the fridge. Disgusting. Needless to say, i want out of this situation.
Oh, and to top it off. Now that Lutris and I are no longer an object, I'd like a room of my own, right? There is a vacancy with the messy roommate having just been booted, so this shouldn't have been an issue. Apparently the couple picked out a new roommate and agreed to let him move in without even consulting Lutris or myself. So not only do I not get the free room, despite me having lived here for two years, I don't even get a say on rather I want this new person moving in or not. Joy beyond joys. BUT they're at least going to give me my own bedroom. I get the room with the roof that leaks when it rains. YAY!
There is a good bit more I could bitch about, but I feel as if I've summed it up fairly well already. So I'll just leave it at that.

The Otter Returns
Posted 14 years agoHe comes back today. I'll be leaving in about half an hour to go pick him up at the airport with some friends.
I'm feeling a whole slew of emotions right now. I'm so excited, though. I can't wait to hold him again.

RANT Fur Meets at the 99
Posted 14 years agoI'm going to make this short and to the point.
When you attend any type of local fur meet at a family-friendly restaurant, REMEMBER that its in a family-friendly restaurant.
I don't CARE that its a fucking furry meet. I get that. But also remember that its being held in a restaurant that is nice enough to host us. So please ACT like any SANE person would when in a restaurant.
This means that talking about adult material isn't okay.
This means that playing music or videos on your phone at max volume is not okay.
EDIT: Also, who was the jackass with the external speaker? I'm -glad- that thing didn't have power.
This means that standing in the aisles like retards after the staff asked everyone to sit and stay seated WELL before they even began to take orders is NOT OKAY.
EDIT: For those attending who didn't pay attention/care, our waitress asked thrice (that I could hear) for people to sit down at different times during the meet. Nobody listened.
This means flash photography while other people are trying to eat their food is NOT okay. (Seriously. Nobody likes a flash going off over 20 times during the course of their meal. Also, I didn't give ANYONE permission to take my fucking photo. Im honestly pissed off that it was taken more times then I care to count today. NOT OKAY.)
Having fun in a civilized manner is GREAT. But the piss-poor display put on earlier today at the 99 for the 99 Fur Meet was anything but great. I'd honestly be surprised if the management asked us not to return after this month.
Sure, we may bring them added revenue due to a large party. But if its at the cost of running other paying customers away, then they won't want us.
I'm going to end this by saying I don't plan on attending any more of the local meets until this changes.
It wasn't everyone, obviously. But if you take any offense to what I've said in this journal then you're probably one of the people who need to consider how you act in public. You give the rest of us a bad name.

Life and the like
Posted 14 years agoThe next few weeks are going to see some drastic changes in my life. By this Friday I'll be waving good-bye to NH and moving back to MA. I'm finding myself looking at this and feeling an entire mixture of emotions.
On Leaving NH:
But I'm also going to be sad to move. I've grown really fond of living with
in this quiet little area of NH. Its been peaceful and has proved a great time for me to just step aside and reflect on my life and what is important to me as a person. I've had a lot of fun here and I truly am going to miss the great company.
On Returning to MA:
I'm going to be excited to be back in the area that I know and love. I really do love the "Boston" area and what it has to offer. I feels like home to me.
Moving back to MA also means I'll be with my otter again, though. He will be returning from Sweden, cutting his stay short by well over a year, less then a week after I make my move. I look forward to being with him again and starting out lives together. Its only been a few months since he proposed to me, and even that was via Skype from Sweden, but I already feel like I've spent years with him and cannot wait to be back in his arms again.
On Writing:
I've been using a good portion of my downtime to return to something I used to do frequently when I was a teenage - write. I had, at one point in my life, been a good ways through a children's novel that I even had a publisher on board for. They liked the idea and liked the characters and they wanted to publish it. I lost interest when my computers HDD failed and ruined over half of what I had written. I learned to do frequent back-ups after that, but never really wrote like I had before.
Recently, due to
introducing me to NaNoWriMo, I've picked it back up again. I'm getting really into the story I've come up with and the details of the world. Thus far I'm writing everything as swiftly as I can, attempting to cram a months of writing into the few days before my otter returns. I've already passed the halfway point and am narrowing in on the final bits of the story. As I write it I can't help but dream of other stories that take place in the universe and what could be happening elsewhere. If I'm not completely sick of writing by the time I hammer this out, I think I'd like to possibly return to write more stories in the world.
Its a zombie-esque survival story, by the by. ;3
On Family:
Its been nearly a year now since I've last seen my family. A great deal has happened, both to me and to them, in that time. I've lost my Grandmother. My Brother has popped out another kid. My Dad has lost his job and landed a new one. My cat, 15 years old, passed away. I'll be hopping a plane shortly after seeing my otter to go home for half a month.
I'm looking forward to flying home to be with my folks again, but that means I won't have access to the internet or even a computer for 15 days. I don't even think I'll have cellular service in the area, so my phone will be useless as well. I'm hoping that time will away from the wired world will do me some good. Not to mention I can't wait to sit around the table with my Mother in the early morning light and just talk like we used to do.

NaNoWriMo
Posted 14 years agoSo I decided to join this whole NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth thing and give it a go.
Currently having NO life to speak of I'm drowning in free time. I started yesterday morning and have already put in just over 7,000 words. The goal is 50,000 by the end of the month.
I'm trying to push through this because the last half of the month is going to be a busy time for me.
My otter is returning from Sweden on the 15th and I will be reunited with him. Then a few days later I'll be hopping a plane to fly back to Kentucky and visit my folks. I won't be returning til the 2nd of December. Did I mention my folks don't have the net?
So I really only have until my Otter returns on the 15th to write a 50,000 word novel and get it moderately proof-read and ready for the public.
