So, still no power at casa del where I am staying in Houston. But six miles up the road, at a friend's apartment complex, they have power and internet. So they are being awesome and letting me hang around their place and eat up space for at least today. Hopefully the power company will spread the love to my temporary home soon enough. I'm supposed to be "working from home today" but outside of knowing I have a ton to do to make up for lost days, I seem to be failing at that. My remote connection is pift. And they can't check on the machine itself until 11:30. Guess I can get a good breakfast in, then.

Hey! Just wanted to chime in and say we're alright. Still no power, but a neighbor has cell internet on their laptop and was gracious enough to let me borrow their rig a few minutes in exchange for letting them charge it on the inverter in my truck. So, no power, no AC (such a heat wuss), you can hear generators around, but we dont have one. Saw a few people around are getting power back in journals on here and that's an encouraging sign. So I'm fine, happy to be able to get a quick online fix, and really sad I can't run any designs right now. You guys take care and I'll check back in again respond to messages and all the good stuff once I get power back here.

Wives are supposed to let husbands do whatever they want, right? Well phoo. My voice of reason reminded me that we are in the hole right now and that even a couple days in a hotel isn't something we should spring for. Then Mere reminded me that I told her if I was going to a con, she was going with me. Stupid promises. And so, I'll have to catch everyone sometime a little later. As much as part of me wants to go, I'm gonna keep to my word and my wallet.

... But hey, if any of you cats are out there early in the week I'm open to driving out for dinner or something. I have a food allowance that's just itchin' to be wasted, and a rental car that needs drivin'.

And yeah, that title is a Dr. Horrible reference. I'm so making that costume for Halloween. Even if there are gonna be a lot of them running around.

EDIT: Nail in the coffin of Furfright news! My Boss just called me and told me, "I know we were going to fly you in the 13th, but now it looks like we'll have to wait until the 27th." Yeah, so no even catching the early birds! It's all a tease anyway.

Okay, the fates are trying to tell you something when this happens. My boss sends me an e-mail saying he wants to bring all the new developers up to Danbury (Connecticut, not Texas) for a week to meet everyone in the main office. And wants to do it by alphabetical order. My week? October 13-17th. Waterbury is just a little over half an hour away. I'd already have a hotel room, so if I can get them to delay my flight until Sunday late... Yeah, I think this could work out. I could hit FurFright Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday before heading back. Wild.

Man... Life is nuts right now. It's been nuts, and for a while will most likely continue on this crazy path. But that's when you need stuff to keep you sane more than ever, right?

So first of all, I got laid off. Yeah, one year in they canned my entire programming group. I guess FA's down came at a good time, so I could hunt jobs without distracting myself too much. Bright side, I have a new job! It's better than my last one in both pay and benefits. Down side, I have to move to Houston. So right now, Mere and I bumming spots in friends and relative's houses around the city while our house is for sale. So things should turn out alright, just a bit of chaos.

The worst I've had to go through is the loss of my cat, Oberon. We'd been packing to move and I found him in the bathroom, unable to breathe. I rushed him to the vet, and after getting a radiogram, I found out his lungs were failing. And that most of his life they had been working at only 50%. He was just a strong cat. The vet recommended euthenasia because, despite the fact she stopped his attack, she told me he would continue to have them regularly and they would get worse. They let us spend the night with him and the next morning and then we had to let him go. I miss my Ober-cat.

I'm trying to get things back in order, brought the sewing machine with us, so I'll be back into projects soon. Keep after me and note me if we were working on stuff. I wanna get back on track.

Big ideas for upcoming conventions:

Tag Teaming:
I do embroidery, but I mostly use other people's art for the designs. Why? I'm not as clean or quick as many of the other people on here, so it makes it easier on me. That and I like playing with other peoples styles in my stitching. So if I'm going to go I was thinking of looking for artists who would tag team with me. What I mean is someone comes for a patch, I refer them to an artist I'm working with to do the design, then I make the embroidery from their drawing. We split the money for the product.

Basic Bust Patches:
I need to be armed with quick sell items. The base idea is bust patches of different animals, like the doberman patch I just did using 's art. I do embroidery, but I mostly use other people's art for the designs. Why? I'm not as clean or quick as many of the other people on here, so it makes it easier on me. That and I like playing with other peoples styles in my stitching. So if I'm going to go I was thinking of looking for artists who would tag team with me. What I mean is someone comes for a patch, I refer them to an artist I'm working with to do the design, then I make the embroidery from their drawing. We split the money for the product.

Basic Bust Patches:
I need to be armed with quick sell items. The base idea is bust patches of different animals, like the doberman patch I just did using 's art. Yeah, I keep telling myself "I'll go to AC... Next year." I've done that for more than a few years now and I think I need to break the cycle. So what does this have to do with y'all? Half of why I don't go is worry I'd not have anyone to hang with or stuff to do. Both pretty lame, I know. But maybe If I get stuff together, it could work out.

Word Tags:
You know those name patches you see on service industry shirts. I have finished name patches lying around, would be easy to take those and put anything on them. Say things like, "Yerf!" "Woof!" "O'Rly?" that sort of junk. Move those cheap for $4. So what words would you guys want to see on them?

Big Character Bags / Wallets / Quilts / Polos / Something:
If I could get the permission of some of the really known artists t use thier characters and make custom things based on the character and put them in the auction, I think that would really be something. (Say shooting for the moon, here) Getting Max BlackRabbit's permission to make a ZigZag Purse wallet in black and white say vinyl to fit her background. Or with Jim Groat to do a Red shetland messenger bag. I think something unique and custom like that would be buzz worthy. Would almost want to do a Character Quilt that showcases a lot of the characters, but that would take getting a lot of permission and that could be hard.

Staff patches:
I have no idea how big the staff is for something like AC, so this could be a fools errand. But making patches for each of the staff members, or at least the head staff and organizers. Not only would it make them stand out as staff, I think it would look cool. I'm jsut afraid that that one would take someone helping me out with supplies money if there are more than four or five I have to do.

But yeah I'm all about big ideas, it's just getting feedback and then setting them in motion that tends to give me problems. So here it is all laid out. Help me! And on the last note, I'm planning to take what I get from comissions all year (I mean I've actually gotten some! Thank you!) and trying to use that to make my con money. We'll see how that goes.

Edit: To clarify, I'm talking about preparing for 2009. Doing all this in three, four days would be Sparta.

Whoa... How did this happen? I'm nearing capacity on trades here! I really didn't figure on this ever happening. I wouldn't have expected so many people to be interested in my embroidery. Thank you!

Okay, so game plan time. I may start to get picky on accepting any more trades. So I guess what's this is bringing to mind here, for me, is what happens when you have a genre (look, I had to pick a word) that is so deeply steeped in sexuality it's the porno punchline of your evening dramas? Is this redeemable in any form in the public eye? Do we want to be? I mean with our self love of drama, our need to weird people out for attention, and that strange Ellis Island like acceptance of that takes any kink as long as we can shove it into a furry form (or at least one that at least somehow alludes to an animal) then find the time to last out at it how do we have time to move towards anything other than 1000 directions at once? But it's a back and forth thing, it's nice to have a place where I can wear a badge of weirdness and get a grin instead of a glare. I like being able to still pretend, make stories, and heaven forbid art, just for the fun of it. I like seeing that given the opportunity anything can be commercialized and I ponder the next target commercial there a hoodie with cat ears is the next ripoff trend. So what do you kids think? In this sea of ears, tails, and horrible man-children where is this boat we call Furry (Once again, just picking a name here) heading?

A majority of my dreams involve me doing something completely mundane. My most common being shopping for groceries (oh the excitement!) But last night I had a dream that was mundanely evil.

I was browsing FA, like I said mundane, when I got a note. It was from  dnapalmhead he said he was working on a comic collaboration with  lizardbeth. An odd matchup, but two artists I really like both personality and art wise. So I was already pretty pscyhed, but the note said on top of that they were looking for characters to fill cameos on a page or two and my name came up (Look, It's my dream durnit!) I of course replied I'd love that spot right away and thanked them profusely. So as time does in dreams it skipped forward a while and the preliminaries for those pages ended up being posted. I'm poised to favorite the bejeezus out of them when I go to the them and a generic furry outline is in the middle of each panel in orange with a question mark in the middle. The descriptions go on to detail that the cameo spots in the comic are up for grabs on furbid. And that's where I woke up. I don't know if that really qualifies as a nightmare, but my mind was being mean. Wonder what this one says about me?

Why the update, well, besides promising to do it? Raw meat. That's right in the one of the strangest moments I've had being around here I was reminded of the patches I need to do for  fishyboner because I had to tear through 3 pounds of raw beef for fajitas and it reminded me of the art I want to use...

There may be some slowdown in what I do for some time. I just found out last night one of my uncles passed away. He committed suicide, so it's been a bit more of a blow to the family, especially my father. The funeral is Saturday so I'll be gone for the weekend. Things should be a bit more normal after that. I'm fine, but I have family to take care of for a little bit. You guys stay safe.
