COMMISSION SLOTS ARE OPEN! :D HURRAY (7/40 open!)
Posted 6 years agoAt LONG LAST, THE TIME HAS COME... FOR MORE QUEUE. :D I've been getting more and more wind back into my sails as of late, and at last, I've crested a big hill to get my momentum back! I'm taking a FULL QUEUE this round and you can expect me to be a constant streaming working presence in the following weeks. As always, if there's something I've let slip through the cracks or you have any questions/concerns/etc, my lines are all open!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
I'd like to start instituting a (minor!) new policy with commissions when ordering if I can, to help me out in my piece juggling-- PLEASE, WHEN ORDERING, STATE YOUR PREFERENCES AS TO STREAM/WORKING ATTENDANCE. If you WOULD like to be present for your piece being made (as in, don't touch it until you're present), a heads up and information like your general availability/time zone will help me out in getting things sorts. If you HAVE NO PREFERENCE or DO NOT MIND me working independently (you'll still receive WIPs the old fashioned way though!), stating it is ALSO HUGELY HELPFUL TO ME. Incidentally the latter may get a piece done quicker in the queue if you're cool with it! I just have a tendency to prioritize those that are present during my stream hours and so clients who aren't there wind up at the back in general, and I've been looking for a way to better remedy that. Thank you!
PROTOCOL FOR THOSE LOOKING TO OBTAIN A SLOT:
- Successfully claim a slot when open via my journals (SPECIFY AMOUNT OF HOURS)
- Send me a note containing ALL relevant information, written and visual, of the characters in question. This includes descriptions, piece expectations/wants, and ALL absolutely “must have” elements.*
- Send payment to Kalydali[at]gmail.com** via paypal WITH A NOTE ATTACHED of your FA username. If I don’t have the latter, it’s hard to tell who sent me what. Don’t be that person!* Seriously though, notes with usernames attached are SUPER ESSENTIAL to make pay identification easier, especially now that Paypal's UI looks like a crappy phone app.
*ALL NOTES AND PAYMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF A SLOT CLAIM UNLESS EXPRESSLY STATED OTHERWISE. Failure to do this will AUTOMATICALLY FORFEIT your slot for that round. Please, if you cannot get me pay and information in this window, DON’T make a claim in the first place. I WILL BE ENFORCING THIS MORE AGGRESSIVELY THAN I USED TO, be warned! Exceptions are to be made purely at my discretion and only with clear, prior details given as to the circumstances.
[/b]
**Kdavis51@uco.edu is still a functional email address that CAN be used (both go to the same PayPal account) but the listed one above is my permanent email and so I actually get pings when a payment hits.
ROLLOVER 'JUGGLING FOR CLIENT PRESENCE' QUEUE (The usual minor spillover/trying to catch folks for finishing up while they're here, don't mind this):

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE OPEN! :D HURRAY (23/40 open!)
Posted 6 years agoAnd it's that time again! I do still (as per usual these days) have a little bit of rollover queue which will be treated as priority to finish over anything new, but I didn't realize how close to the end of the month it is (... oops), so I needed to get this going today. NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:

If I've somehow forgotten something or you have any questions, however, I don't bite! Feel free to ping in the comments below, and thank you for reading!

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE OPEN! :D HURRAY (17/50 open!)
Posted 6 years agoIiiit's that time of the month again, all! SO. I do still have a bit of leftover queue from my previous batch to be completed, which I'm going to be finishing up over the next week or so to completion with the usual priority over new stuff, BUT, I have confidence that I'll be able to chew through that pretty quick with my renewed working vigor and want to keep pushing forward for productivity (and bill paying) into February! LET'S DO THIS YEEEEAH.
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
I'm going to be including a few pieces here that don't *technically* count towards the 50 open hours I'm doing here-- they're orders from long time friends and clients that have requested the slots over the last few days and I'll be plopping them at the top of the list for the sake of my own work keeping to start off with. Don't mind them! Beyond that, LET'S DO THIS.
This includes descriptions, piece expectations/wants, and ALL absolutely “must have” elements.*

etc
1, 2, 3, open! READY SET GO.
(17/50-ish hours left)
ALSO! NEW SLOTS (open indefinitely FOR IPAD COMMISSIONS!)
(Yes, these are open again!)
Those of you who follow my twitter Kalydali likely know this already, but I happened to acquire an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and the Procreate app recently, and have been using headshot/bust commissions as a way to get more familiar with the program! I've been really enjoying these and see no reason to quit them any time soon; because of this, I'm leaving these slots open indefinitely for now, and taking as many as I get! They are 60 USD flat rate, due to taking two hours minimum, but I'm not charging by the hour proper while I still get used to things and am not super time efficient due to tech bumbling.
PERKS of this commission type include a FREE time lapse of your piece being created ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l5.....ew?usp=sharing ), a Procreate only final ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/18A.....ew?usp=sharing ) and a fully touched up version through Photoshop later ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RL.....ew?usp=sharing -- there's also a full size version I add as well!) for your trouble. I may or may not imply backdrop elements, but I typically do flat colored backgrounds and give them proper texture in the final PS pass. I've been a little more spotty on these since I've moved BUT I'd like to pick through at least one or two per week to rest my hand since chilling with my iPad seems to help combat wrist strain.
IPAD SLOTS:
1.
Firemaster13 - a dragonroo! PAID/INFO SENT (This is still my single standing order and I need to blow the dust off Procreate)
2.
Inkmaven - 2 portraits! FR PC and maned wolf/dragon - PAID/INFO SENT
3.
4.
(etc)
THINGS STILL ON MY LIST/NOT FULLY FINISHED WITH QUEUE PRIORITY:
(If you have paid into me for any amount of hours currently unfinished and don't see your name here, PLEASE tell me and I will immediately correct it!)
1.
Datastains - still need to touch up shark blessings PLUS UPDATE CHARACTER SHEET FOR ROS (need to catch her in session for this, feedback/presence pretty critical for GLITCH SHENANIGANS to get right)
2.
Kaz hours have been bolstered for ghost kitties! Final count will now be 10 hours for piece, if any time is leftover roll it into a new work (???)
3.
Axikor 3h oneshot painting, DO THE THING
4.
Woodside 40m completed, correct background adjustments and DO CLOTHES
5:
Dragonfoxdemon - 1.5h of 2 done, send off to check before spit polish - BUMPED TO 3H, PAID
6.
Rooth a little over 2 hours left in big forest fire painting of 9
7. Patch Lil's last piece to replace with SUPERIOR CHARACTER (about 2h total expected)
8. Yakeowolf from Twitter- 2/4 hours paid, can tackle the first chunk of it this week!
I THINK that does it for everything! If by some chance I've missed a piece please tell me and I'll correct myself immediately! I'll be doing my level best to chew through this in its entirety before taking on any more hours, too; the looming reality of bills for February just made it relevant to line up in advance. Happy trails, guys! Thank you so much for sticking with me and looking forward to SMASHING IT OUT OF THE PARK.

IPAD SLOTS:

3.
4.
(etc)
THINGS STILL ON MY LIST/NOT FULLY FINISHED WITH QUEUE PRIORITY:
(If you have paid into me for any amount of hours currently unfinished and don't see your name here, PLEASE tell me and I will immediately correct it!)

4.

5:

6.

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE CLOSED! :D HURRAY
Posted 7 years agoAaand it's about that time again! I'm still finishing up a few shy hours at the tail end of a handful of pieces right now, but I'm close enough to genuine completion that I thought it high time to line up my next batch of commissions for the month! No particulars here of real import-- it's all standard rules and I'll just be plucking along daily to get things done as I can!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
Like I usually have, there's a touch of rollover left in cleaning up a few pieces/finishing them off that take priority over these new claims, BUT that's about it! I'll inevitably not be working (probably) for a couple days around Christmas since I'll be home-home with the family, though otherwise count on me being around!
- Send payment to kdavis51[at]uco.edu via paypal WITH A NOTE ATTACHED of your FA username.

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE CLOSED! :D HURRAY
Posted 7 years agoAt long last, I am taking up another chunk of commissions! There's basically nothing to be stated here as far as caveats go; I'm gonna just be comfortably chugging along as well as I'm able to. The vast majority of my rollover queue has been cleared, I'm gonna finish up posting stuff... eventually... and I look forward to working more with all of you! :D Cheers!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
As usual there's a small amount of rollover, though I'm at the point where I definitely need to take on new stuff just to keep the ball rolling while factors like timing are out of my court. ONWARDS. \o/ I honestly can't think of much to put here today, which is really a great thing!

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE OPEN! :D HURRAY (3/40 open!)
Posted 7 years agoNow that I'm FINALLY settled into my new apartment (townhouse!!!) and the hubbub of changing locations is dying down, it's high time I get a new queue going! I still have a couple of hangover pieces from the last one that I'm gonna be putting work precedent on as usual (especially Antediluvia's, which I keep delaying due to not wanting a sibling walking in on me painting risqué content), BUT. Beyond that, let's just get going! Onwards and upwards as always, my fine and beautiful gentlefolks!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
I'm still comically backlogged on actually posting finished content, but unless otherwise specified in the rollover queue, all content in my queue HAS been completed! I'm also just gonna be omitting the open call for iPad portraits this round so I can get the few I do have completed as their own thing since it's offline/unplugged from my workhorse, but they are not forgotten nor disregarded!
PROTOCOL FOR THOSE LOOKING TO OBTAIN A SLOT:
- Successfully claim a slot when open via my journals (SPECIFY AMOUNT OF HOURS)

So... 10K watchers is a LOT. Holy shit, guys?
Posted 7 years agoSo um. As of just a little while ago I tipped a kind of massive milestone for watchers: ten thousand, as it were, and I'm pretty flabbergasted to say the least? Seriously, if you'd have told me back in college that I'd accidentally fall into the furry fandom and also accidentally find the best career of my life doing it, I'd have laughed at the absurdity, because... really? And yet, here I am: proud furry and fantasy artist with a heart full of pride that I'm here. You guys are amazing. I want to celebrate. I don't do this often, BUT I want to give back just a little bit in the ways that I'm able, so, I'm having a raffle!
IF YOU WANT TO ENTER, fill out the following in a comment below for a chance to win a free icon painting by yours truly! I'll draw up a winner via random number generator in a few days, maybe like on Friday. You must be watching me to enter! Beyond that, just see below:
YOUR USERNAME: (Self explanatory!)
HOW DID YOU FIND ME/ MY WORK? (I'm just curious, I'd love to know if you remember!)
CHARACTER REFERENCE: (Keep in mind that this is face-centric, so a couple/few choice examples of good face anatomy work best-- if all refs are super cartoonish or simplified an additional note of, say, what species they're closest to anatomically would help!)
PREFERRED EXPRESSION OR MOOD: (What kind of sentiment you want the character to be feeling!)
YOUR FAVORITE SONG ON YOUTUBE: (Because let's also make this a shameless opportunity to share music! Post a link of some sounds you love on Youtube. Include song title/band name with the link please!)
And that's it! Thank you so much for your continued support, guys. Seriously, you are incredible. You've allowed me to become an independent artist with a job they love and wouldn't trade for anything. I can't express how much it means to actually make it-- and that's because of all of you!

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE CLOSED! :D HURRAY (-2/40 open!)
Posted 7 years agoSince I'm getting to a point where I can earnestly tackle more, I thought it'd be wise to just get this straightened out! I've been taking a lot of off-the-cuff work lately from familiar clients to keep coasting along, though it's way overdue that I just go ahead and hammer out new orders. I'm all done with traveling for the year now (sans an apartment move in August, but I'll give clearance for that ahead of time!) so I shouldn't have any major commission delays, Real Life Happening aside. Onwards and upwards, you lovely gentlefolks!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
As usual my gallery is still painfully behind on actually posting the finished work I have, but unless specified in my rollover queue, all pieces from my last batch have been completed and delivered/finalized with clients! If somehow you've managed to slip through the cracks, please holler at me here as always. I would not put it past me to derp on something. But ANYWAY, moving on!
- Send payment to kdavis51[at]uco.edu via paypal WITH A NOTE ATTACHED of your FA username.

ALSO! NEW SLOTS (open indefinitely FOR IPAD COMMISSIONS!)
Get this deal while it's hot! Turnaround is very quick since I plow through one every day to two days on average. Sometimes my "off" days include chewing through a couple of these on the couch!
SLOTS FOR IPAD PORTRAITS:
1.
GrayShrike PAID - DONE
2.
Everruler PAID
3.
Mnementh (2 slots!) - PAID
4. REVI - cutie dragon
5. WREN AND ERMINE - dual portraitS!
etc.
THINGS STILL ON MY LIST/NOT FULLY FINISHED WITH QUEUE PRIORITY:
(If you have paid into me for any amount of hours currently unfinished and don't see your name here, PLEASE tell me and I will immediately correct it!)
1.
Antediluvia - smutty silly boyfriend things - currently 5 hours in, picking at while sibling is not home (... slowly), total credit of 13 hours bought for PS4 goodies!
2.
Serandite - two character fire dance piece, 6/6 hours paid and completed, shelved for a bit!
3.
Emmi-Heldt and friend - 10 hours (paid, SUPER PRIORITY to just start this, it needs doing)
4.
Howlitzer gory werewolf lady pinup, 7/7 paid and up to date until next sessions
5.
Ivy_Trellis - 1 extra hour bought for adding lightning to maned wolf lady, gotta put LIGHTNING IN THERE - DONE
I think that covers everything. Cheers, y'all. Thank you as ever for sticking with me through this wild ride called life and art.

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE CLOSED! :D HURRAY
Posted 7 years agoBeen a damn long time since I took this up again, eh? Sure enough though, I'm finally prepared to take on another full, proper queue for pieces and hours of all types-- and I'm excited about it to boot!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
Despite my gallery being comically behind on posting, all of my paid work with the exception of Ciewa and Sharlan and Lil's pieces (which are being worked on this week to finish, taking mild precedent over new stuff) has been finished, approved and delivered! Aaand lastly-- a POSSIBLE slot proposal for a PS4?:
Okay, so, this one's a special, optional, oneshot slot I'm just tossing out there because I'm weak and temptation is a powerful force. I haven't had a new generation console for a long, long time, and with the coming of Monster Hunter World, I think I'm wanting to invest in a PS4. This does not have to be a new or even Pro model-- it just has to work well and be in decent condition. This can be bought or traded from your personal belongings. I would be willing to trade an appropriate chunk of hours to get my hands on one, though if there are no bites out there, that's okay too. I'm just struggling to justify putting actual, tangible bill money towards a plaything and attempting to circumvent it by technically trading my goods and services for the device, instead.

Brb, going to TFF!
Posted 7 years agoI'm mostly just leaving a note here to explain my (brief) absence-- for happy reasons! Tomorrow (well today now if we're being technical) I'm going to be headed off for a drive to Texas in preparation for Texas Furry Fiesta, where you may just find me haunting the place as a casual guest! I'm going to be staying with
Fenric and his wonderful family at their residence over the week, and look forward to hanging out with so many wonderful friends and unwinding while I'm there.
I'll still have my email open and check FA periodically for any necessary communications, though until about the 12th or so I'll likely be (mostly) radio silent here, due to the little vacation.
Cheers, you guys. Keep a lookout for the scraggly kid in flamboyant pajama pants and hawaiian shirts, eh? :V

RIP Vash, 200X - 2017
Posted 7 years agoIt's been hard working myself up to write this journal. Those of you who follow me on Twitter likely know already, but I thought it was time to finally, officially, share it here. Vash, my feline partner, inspiration, emotional rock and illustrative muse, passed away earlier in the week.
I hadn't been expecting it-- at least not nearly this soon or this suddenly. I brought her home for the holidays to take care of and have what I assumed would be a basic check-in with her proper vet in town, the same man who'd seen her as a wee feral baby and helped me navigate the months long struggle of her chronic IBS. I brought her in at 3 pm on the 27th expecting some chatter on our next steps. Dr. Chip felt her over and immediately noticed that her left kidney felt enlarged. Despite some worry, he drew blood and told me to take her home for an hour or two while results were processed. He'd call me back as soon as they got her numbers, he said.
I got the call around 5:15. Long story short, she was going into renal failure hard and fast. The toxins in her blood were already at dangerous levels indicative of seizure territory and it was not reversible. In all likelihood, he said, the IBS was some form of lymphoma-- just like my previous cat Peter-- and it had finally spread to her kidneys. I broke down during the call but asked if I could bring her in before closing. About half an hour later, I held her in my lap, hiding her face in my sleeve while he gave her the anesthetic, and cradled her face on the table when they pushed the shot. She went silently in a few seconds while I told her how much I loved her and what a wonderful girl she was and cried. I came home with an empty crate and a lot of devastation I am still working through to process.
Vash was my soul cat. There will never be another like her. Many of you saw her when I'd stream my illustrations; she'd usually hang out next to me on her cat tree and do her level best to "help" me work. She was my nigh-constant companion for over 13 years.
I... also didn't make it very long surviving with a lack of feline love in my life, either. Waking up every day to an empty room was putting me in the darkest place I think I've ever been. I hadn't lacked at least a single cat in my life since third grade, as a wee young thing, and the void hurt too badly to bear. Dr. Chip had mentioned-- and I was a Certifiable Mess at the time with very patchy recall-- that the clinic was housing a little stray girl who came in with kittens some weeks back, and needed a friend. I told myself that maybe when I picked up Vash's remains in a couple of weeks, I'd see her, but yesterday something pushed me to try and make it in before closing time at noon (being Saturday) just for a look at her.
She didn't have a name. She was just the little clinic cat as far as I knew. All of her kittens had been adopted out already and she was the only one left. She was tiny, and still very young, maybe two years at most. The tech said she'd been a great mom despite this. She'd just been spayed the day before, so the brown tabby spots on her belly were all shaved to bare skin. Her tail wasn't even half length, looked a bit scraggly, and had a 90 degree downward kink at the base no one seemed to have a clue as to the origins of. Some of her whiskers were broken off. They let me hang out in one of the unused checkup rooms with her about 30 minutes before closing.
We both needed a friend and she was so heartbreakingly sweet. My parents already knew I probably wasn't going to make it for long with nothing. I asked the tech what I'd have to do if I was interested in potentially adopting her, said tech disappeared, and came back a few minutes later with a rabies tag labeled Momma Cat in sharpie on the back and a zeroed out discharge paper with her spay information. "We'll have her transferred to your name in the database," she said, "just bring her back in 10-12 days so we can get her stitches out."
On the way home, with this little mess in my backseat carrier, I debated on names, and settled for Knock. It seemed fitting for a lot of reasons. She's been luxuriating on my down comforter all day, and slept with me last night. She is not Vash. She will never be Vash. I do not want her to be Vash or even feel like attempted replacement. But... it is nice, at least, not coming home to total emptiness. As I type this, she is curled up on my blankets dozing. She is a new friend, and companion for what I hope will be the next couple of decades. In time, I'll inevitably share more of her.
2017 was a rough year. Tonight, we will bury that tangle of chaos, grief, flickered hopes and struggle behind us. 2018 will be a better year, because it owes us for its shitty older brother big time.
Once the dust of my grief has settled a little more, I promise I will be returning to work. Thank you for all of your patience, your support, and your kindness. Tell the ones you love that will love them and cherish the time you have together.

One year later: a retrospective on Everything
Posted 8 years agoToday of all days seemed appropriate for some existential journaling, I figured. Exactly one year ago, seemingly out of the blue, my mom fell and cracked her head, resulting in a severe concussion and skull fracture. I was home at the time-- the only other human present-- by completely random happenstance, having delayed my original plans for heading back to Kansas City several days prior. It was, without question, the worst day of my life. The year that has followed has also been the hardest I can remember.
But I've survived. I won't lie; it's been difficult, and at times crushingly unfair. Brain injury is an incredibly complicated, messy thing I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies, let alone a parent. It's one of those things you can't really even wrap your head around until you've lived it or lived with it, and even then there's no guidebook or One True Answer for how to cope.
For a roughly six month period immediately following the accident, I had no capacity for work to speak of. Watching over Mom was truly an all consuming task in the earlier stages of her recovery, and one I had to deal with alone beyond weekends since my dad works brutally long hours to keep the family afloat. We all did our best. I've witnessed things that I'll take to my grave and been told in a fog of angry confusion things that I will never repeat. But I've survived. I want to reiterate that. I am different than I was before, but still me. And I've been able to make a slow, crawling comeback thanks in no small part to you guys.
As of Saturday, just a few days ago, I've come back to Kansas City again and finally moved back in with my sister. This marks a theoretical turning point; no longer will my day to day schedule revolve around an ailing parent. I can (again, theoretically) get back to focussing on my work, my business, and my own health. What does this all mean for you guys? Well, it means that I should be producing a lot more work and get back on my feet over the next few weeks-- maybe even return to my pre-hiatus efficiency. I'm nervous but incredibly excited for the prospect.
Thank you so, so much for sticking with me through it all. As clients, friends, supporters, watchers, I could not ask for a better group in which to be. I'll do my best to repay your patience with good work and a good future. You should be seeing a lot more of me here again.
Tell people you love that you love them, treat yourselves kindly, and stay warm for the holidays. I'll see you all in the stream-o-sphere soon.

SIDE-QUEUE FOR ICONS AND PORTRAITS IS OPEN :D (7/10!)
Posted 8 years agoAaalrighty guys-- we're gonna be doing another little mini-queue here! Why, you ask?
Well, short pieces are a great warmup for daily rounds! Thus, I'm going to be keeping this queue as something to grab for possibly off-camera noodling or spare time pieces to chew on. It really helps me have guilt-free work on days I'm not necessarily able to stream, and makes me more available for getting pieces!
WHAT AM I OFFERING THIS ROUND?
There are two choices! I'll be doing my usual icons (45 flat USD and averaging about 1.5h, finals are 600x600 and 100x100 for ready to go use) as well as slightly longer, but still mostly face-focussed "experimental portraits" (60 USD and 2 hours, per my hourly) which will still likely be icon-able but might go down a little further, have a bit more detail with the extra time, etc. As with ALL my other slot protocols, PAYMENT AND INFO ARE DUE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF A CLAIM. Unlike normal slots, though, you can just post the information in comments below via this journal, since it's expected to be short and sweet.
NOW THEN. TO PROTOCOL.
1. Comment in this journal with the following information. You MAY post this as your initial "claim" comment OR preface with some iteration of "I would like a slot!" if you're nervous about losing your place, etc. Just please use the same chain to post in afterwards so I can keep things tidy.
USERNAME: (You!)
TYPE OF COMMISSION YOU ARE WANTING: (icon at 45USD and approximately 1.5h OR 2 hour experimental portrait at 60USD and 2h)
RELEVANT REFERENCE MATERIAL: (Remember that this is basically a face and/or neck up, POSSIBLY with elements of hands/stuff above waists if it's a portrait and I go that far, so that's the really important stuff to link).
PREFERRED MOOD OR EXPRESSION: (Exactly what it says on the tin. Keep it succinct and straight forward!)
4. Once you've posted a form, please send 45 USD (for icons) or 60USD (for portraits) to Kdavis51[at]uco.edu via paypal with a TAG OF YOUR USERNAME (only) ATTACHED. If you don't tag your payment, I can't tell who's good to go!
5. That's it! Ready, set, go! :D
SLOTS:
1.
Noxyfer - 2 hour portrait! - done
2.
Fenric - 2 hour portrait! - done
3.
Fenric - icon of The First Fenric - done
4.
5.

ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: I still actually have about 12 hours of potential time STILL available due to a failed communication drop off on my bigger commissions-- if anyone would like to help me make up for that time and can get me pay and information in the appropriate window, please gimme a yell! This means I CAN take on another larger-than-portrait piece or two right now, as well as this queue's mini-bits. Thank you!

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE OPEN, HURRAY :D
Posted 8 years agoSure enough, it's about that time again! Despite still having a significant backup of posted work to keep on finishing, I have gotten the majority of hours completed from my latch queue now, so we can continue on to lining up a new one! Gonna be rebuilding my savings for the rest of the year now; look forward to lots of productivity and stuff!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
As with the past few months, I'll fully acknowledge that my availability may or may not be spottier than Optimum Speed Hanmonster, though I'm completely done now with any significant traveling for the year and will be focussing on work from here out as best I am able. Hangover finishings-up from my prior queue will naturally take precedent to finish over new work here, but I figured it was time to get things lined up again!
- Send payment to kdavis51[at]uco.edu via paypal WITH A NOTE ATTACHED of your FA username.
SLOTS (STANDARD):
1.
Areyath - 3 hours - RAD HOUNDOOM HIJINX - PAID/INFO SENT
2.
Painteddeer - 3 hours - hurray! - PAID/INFO SENT
3.
Ubervoop -- ... ??? 3 character piece, working on time details now - ??????
4.
Serandite - 3 hours- another sketch page upgrade! :D - PAID/INFO SENT - 2/3 done
5.
Zodel - 4 hours - human/angel stuff, shoo! - PAID/INFO SENT
6.
Mauinyx - 2 hours - PAID/INFO SENT
7.
Kaz - 4 hours - portrait! - PAID/INFO SENT
8.
Lionel - MORE STUFF, 6 more hours of stuff? - ???
9.
etc
SPILLOVER QUEUE FROM BEFORE/side stuff (If I've missed ANYONE who paid time into me prior/etc, please let me know and I will correct immediately!)
1. Ref Sheet for Nullreff (to do when she's present) - 7-ish hours, I remember? - a form-fitting clothed side/front body view would help for suit silhouette ideas if we touch on them - still needs to be done, with her presence
2. Finish up Lionel's ladybug car cat... one day, + portrait, when there's feedback
3. Complete Stripe's Mucha in increments when available AND I CAN GET MY DAMN REFS OFF MY PHONE
4. Next lesson for Fenric's kidlet? When to schedule it (Sundays at 4, stream locked!)
5. Finish up Rath pinup once paid further - previous funds used for gift portraits of cats
6. Take Bast's chosen piece to speedpaint final (swimming one, I think?) from sketch page - when available
7. Finish up Iron's thing after he gets back from TFcon to pay more into it (currently finished up to pay amount + a bit more on portrait)
8. Finish up Jmereis's piece (2-4 more hours in to finish, depending on what we decide)
9. Emma wants a one hour sketch compilation of some things? (Must be done with her presence, specificities not workable otherwise)
1, 2, 3, open! READY SET GO.
(12-ish/40-ish hours left)
In closing...
If anyone who claims a slot would be specifically comfortable with me working on your piece offline (whereas WIPs would still be sent for feedback after any given work session!), specifying it in the claim comment would be HUGELY helpful to me. Due to the continuing struggle of home life still eating me a lot and social energy being unpredictable, there are times I may like to just work offline and out of the public eye. I'll always try my best to arrange for client presence, but Life gets in the way on occasion.
In addition, Dropbox decided to stop hosting third party imaging all together as of the first of the month despite my premium account, so uh, if you have any broken links for images that need retrieving, please don't hesitate to hit me up for a fresh, valid link! Apologies for the inconvenience there. I am still a bit furious about that.
ALSO also, I'm gonna be opening up for a side-queue of icons and portraits as offline/off hour/warmup pieces again once this is sorted out! Should be exciting!

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE FULL, HURRAH!
Posted 8 years agoBeen one HELL of a long time since I did this officially, eh guys? Either way, I'm overdue and ready to tackle this beast for good! Without further ado, let's get on with the old, familiar step-and-shuffle!
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
I'm sure the most of you all know this by now, but my productivity speed over the last few months has been partially crippled (and spotty) due to living at my parents' home and dealing with familial distractions. Because of this, in all likelihood I'm still going to be a little slower than I would like, so please be mindful of that. However, I'll be doing my damnedest to stay productive at the opportunities I'm able, and will always be here to interact with and answer questions! Also, please do not count anything listed on my spillover/back burner queue in the current hours! That's just footnotes of things to keep track of and finish as I'm able, since the majority of which are set aside due to delays beyond my control.
PROTOCOL FOR THOSE LOOKING TO OBTAIN A SLOT:
- Successfully claim a slot when open via my journals (SPECIFY AMOUNT OF HOURS)

3. Still some hangover time of Stripetail's for world bashing? Does he need a refund??? 3-4-ish hours of spillover from the last thing weren't all used up, but pre-paid
4. Next lesson for Fenric's kidlet? When to schedule it (weekend?)
5. Finish up THINGS for Rath at his leisure (WHAT UP NERD)
6. Take Bast's chosen piece to speedpaint final (swimming one, I think?) from sketch page

Aaand I think that should do it. I'm also likely going to be breaking standard protocol and be shunting the majority of payments immediately from my paypal to my bank due to some reasons, so in the unlikely event of a refund request (please note: I have not, to date, ever had to refund a customer in my art career, but I wanted to put this down anyway), the transfer back may take a couple of days to fulfill. As long as you're all cool with that, I think that's it!
Cheers, guys-- happy Wednesday. And don't be afraid to ask me any questions if you have 'em!

A Quick Recap: things left to do/queue incoming!
Posted 8 years agoThis is mostly just a journal for the sake of consolidating what I have left on my plate, really! I'm actually gonna be opening for proper commissions again soon, though I currently have a number of small odds and ends not quite 'finished' so much as on the wayside due to Things. Below is a list:
1. Ref Sheet for Nullreff (to do when she's present) - 7-ish hours, I remember? - a form-fitting clothed side/front body view would help for suit silhouette ideas if we touch on them
2. Finish up Lionel's ladybug car cat... one day, + portrait, when there's feedback
3. Still some hangover time of Stripetail's for world bashing? Does he need a refund??? 3-4-ish hours of spillover from the last thing weren't all used up, but pre-paid

5. Finish up THINGS for Rath at his leisure (WHAT UP NERD)
6. Take Bast's chosen piece to speedpaint final (swimming one, I think?) from sketch page
7. Finish up Iron's thing after he gets back from TFcon to pay more into it (currently finished up to pay amount + a bit more on portrait)
Aaaand I think that does it. Most of these are in kind of a 'waiting' period due to needing coordination with commissioners, but beyond that, I *feel* like I lined up everything? If I've managed to let an order fall through the cracks, please gimme a shout.
Otherwise, I think tonight or tomorrow I may go ahead and line up my next big, proper working queue! Been a few months since THAT happened, eh?
Anyway, I hope you're all doing well! I thank you for your patience and support while my home life continues to very occasionally be a huge mess. Cheers!

Back from Furlandia/Oregon/Washington!
Posted 8 years agoI still have a few notes/etc to look through (apologies for that!) and some other things to take care of, but I just wanted to leave a little note here to say that, sure enough, I have returned from vacation with the fantastic
Simpl1 in one piece! The whole thing was a whirlwind adventure of much needed respite from home things, and I'll inevitably blather upon it in much more detail later once I've slept a second night in my own bed. Until then, to those I met: thank you for all of your wonderful hospitality, kindness, and positivity. You know a vacation has been truly wonderful when you slog home feeling exhausted (in a good way) to the bone.
I may need another day or two to piece my schedule back together, but we'll return to the usual work schedule ASAP thereafter!
Cheers, guys!

Brb, Furlandia/Oregon vacation!
Posted 8 years agoI know my gallery is still dreadfully in need of some fresh uploads for all the work I've finished recently-- but that will come soon! In the meanwhile, this is a polite heads up for all of my friends, watchers and clients that I'm going on a small (positive!) hiatus to enjoy a mini-vacation with
Simpl1 out in Oregon and Washington for the next week or so! I fly out tomorrow on the 25th for Portland, during which time I'll be attending Furlandia as a casual guest just loitering around, and if all goes well, I should return again on the 5th of June.
I expect for this to be a ton of fun, and a much, much needed break from a lot of life related stresses. I will, however, be leaving my workhorse (and laptop) at home, so to those few folks I'm currently juggling pieces for, work WILL stop until I return! After I've gotten back home, however, and had a couple of days to shake off any inevitable jet lag, we should pick right back up where we left off on finishing pieces and hauling ass.
I hope you've all been having a nice week out there, world! And maybe I'll see some of you there at Furlandia! As always, thank you so much for your patience, love and support. It truly means the world. Cheers, guys!

I'm alive, I promise!
Posted 8 years agoOkay, this journal has been a long, long, LONG time coming and I still want to make another more detailed one tomorrow-- HOWEVER. Tonight, despite drowning in notifications and notes/emails, I just wanted to leave a... placeholder message here now, if you will.
To start off with, I want to thank each and every one of you who's supported me through this stupendously long hiatus. Every little reaching out really has been deeply touching, and the last few months have been very hard. We're doing okay, though! Mom has been recovering well despite a lot of ups and downs-- tonight marked the first time she was permitted to go out and drive again to pick up something at the corner store (rather than me taking her), which was huge and gratifying. Life has continued, and though it's been rocky, all in all, I'm thankful. For everything.

Simpl1 on the 24th and attending Furlandia because he's the sweetest person in the world to haul me with him, for shenanigans in that part of the country, which is great! I've been catastrophically disconnected from the social and art sphere for too long now, which has been terrible, though I have every intention of coming back to it. Preferably soon.
On another side note, as always-- if anyone out there from my queue wants a partial or total refund for work as of yet unfinished, please tell me and I'll do so immediately. I apologize again for those who've been hanging in the balance since the Mom Incident happened-- even if that was beyond my control, I never wanted to leave any customers hanging and will go to any lengths necessary to respond accordingly.
Tomorrow's goal is to start slogging through my notes (which I see there, I promise; apologies too for being so damn late and away from FA) and maybe start going back through some motions of finding my groove again.
Cheers, guys. See you tomorrow.

To start off with, I want to thank each and every one of you who's supported me through this stupendously long hiatus. An update on life, semi-hiatus ending TBA.
Posted 9 years agoIt's kind of late and this week has been extremely exhausting, but I'm overdue to post an update. I'd like to start off by apologizing for the radio silence to all of you-- my watchers, my friends, and especially those clients still invested in me with as-of-yet unfinished work.
What started as a silly week-or-so (okay, slightly more, it's my 20 year old guilty pleasure) getaway to binge on Pokemon Sun abruptly took a hard turn several days back on Tuesday. While I was playing my DS on the living room couch, I heard the door to the garage open and some very faint shuffling in the kitchen. My mom-- who I was home alone with at the time-- was presumably coming in to get a drink, use the bathroom... something. The intent doesn't really matter now because she never made it to the destination.
I heard a loud CLANK sound, called out to her, and after no response rushed into the kitchen to find her face down on the floor, motionless, with blood pouring out one side of her head and her face half-stuck in the ultra-heavy ceramic dog bowl full of water we keep inside for our pit bulls. Thank god when I rolled her out of the water she was... I guess snoring?... and still breathing, but KO'd, blood everywhere, not really responsive at all for a pretty terrifying couple of minutes, etc, etc. I probably sounded pretty hysterical to the 911 receptionist because I've never really had the experience of clutching an unconscious parent's bloody head wound or whatever, but there you go.
It could have been a lot worse, though it still isn't... good, as of now. What likely happened was a seizure due to critically low sodium levels, and she happened to drop randomly JUST so that she'd head butt the hardest possible surface in the kitchen, on its edge/lip. She has a severe concussion, a skull fracture, and what will be a permanent (if ultimately cosmetic) dent in the side of her head where she managed to bean herself. But we should be okay. She's out of the hospital now and doing really well, considering-- though she's still in a lot of pain, frequently dazed/confused, covered in bruises, and absolutely needs 24/7 supervision and assistance to function safely; i.e., a helper in the room. There is no way around it.
For at least the month of December I'm basically putting all work on hold until further notice. To my clients, I'm sorry; if any one of you would like a refund or partial refund for as-of-yet incomplete work from my remaining queue, please contact me and I'll be happy to oblige you. I've finally looked over the notes in my inbox and comments accrued on my page and need to respond to those, too; I promise I'm not willfully neglecting you, but if I don't respond by the end of the week, I openly invite you to re-tap me. Since my dad can't take off work for any longer (he was off last week since it happened to be with her) I am assuming the role of primary/sole caretaker and babysitter for my Mom during the weekdays, which means I basically need to be glued to her, and thus just.. don't have the capacity to go do art on the workhorse here in my room. You may see my popping around online if we're 3DS friends because I have a lot of idle time for handhelds while she watches TV and dozes-- feel free to join me if you want to interact on Pokemon or MonHun!-- but that aside, it's just... yeah.
I'll try to keep y'all posted here at my gallery. This was not an intended hiatus, but it is a necessary one. I hope you're all well, and thank you for your patience.

BRB POKEMON
Posted 9 years ago... okay so uh originally when I ordered Pokemon Sun, Amazon Prime told me it was guaranteed here by the 22nd. The other day I checked again and it said the 19th. Lo and behold it was just delivered to my mailbox.
I'll be back after the weekend is over for more streaming proper, I promise. But uh. I think this weekend has just officially gone to a vacation in Alola. GOODBYE WORLD, GOODBYE FRIENDS.

(4/10) SIDE-QUEUE ICON AND PORTRAIT SLOTS OPEN :D
Posted 9 years agoSure enough, here's the next batch! I've really been enjoying the luxury of this whole side queue thing: all little one shot pieces to use for either A.) staying fresh between pieces or B.) working on when I'm offline or having a tired day to keep some cash inflow. They'll be done at intervals alongside my standard queue whenever I see fit, and may or may not be completed with commissioner presence. Without further ado, ONWARDS:
WHAT AM I OFFERING THIS ROUND?
There are two choices! I'll be doing my usual icons (40 flat USD and averaging about 1.5h, finals are 600x600 and 100x100 for ready to go use) as well as slightly longer, but still mostly face-focussed "experimental portraits" (60 USD and 2 hours, per my hourly) which will still likely be icon-able but might go down a little further, have a bit more detail with the extra time, etc.

COMMISSION SLOTS ARE MOSTLY FULL, WOO! Thank you! :D
Posted 9 years agoWell, well, well, it's about time we did this song and dance again, eh? Gonna be lining up a pretty significant amount of hours today with no particular stipulations, now that cons and traveling are more or less (I think?) done for the year. It also helps that I'm finally over all my con crud and back to reasonable working order on a day to day basis. Without further ado, let's be on with it!
Now, ONWARDS, TO STANDARD COPY PASTED GLORY:
NOTES TO BE AWARE OF FOR THIS BATCH OF ORDERS:
Actually, this one's a little different than usual. A fellow artist I admire-- the amazing Sasha, aka
Caelansky-- is also open for hours here ( http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7836762/ ), and I wanted to give him a visibility boost while we're here. Seriously, if you're gunning for some commissions with absolutely stellar quality and AMAZING sensitivity to light and color and modeling, give him a look. And a follow. Seriously. The guy is just weeping skill out every pore and I want to color like that one day. Also, he's just fantastic to socialize with, and extremely professional. So yeah!
ALSO also, I should probably note that I WILL be opening up for a "side queue" slot list again as soon as I've organized everything here, possibly tonight or tomorrow, which will consist of 10 slots for icons and/or 2 hour portraits under the stipulation that they may be painted offline/while clients aren't present/etc. I've really missed having that short list to pad my work with recently, and think it'd be great to indulge in again. Quickies are also fantastic to keep my work fresh for one-and-dones!
- Send payment to kdavis51[at]uco.edu via paypal WITH A NOTE ATTACHED of your FA username.
SLOTS (STANDARD):
1.
Sleet - 7 hours -
2.
Straander - 5 hours -
3.
Antediluvia - 5 hours - DONE
4.
Scyvvir - 7 hours - DONE
5.
Serandite - 4 hours (sketch upgrade!) - DONE
6.

SPECIAL QUEUE FOR PRIOR SLOT HONORINGS: (writing these down from memory, if I missed you, just tap me please)
1.
JonathanMereis - 15 hours - DONE
2.
Redblackdragon - 10 hours -
3. Null and Ker
4. Possibly Stripe if he wants it for design stuff
5. Syd - she's paid! 5 hours. Awaiting info. (she and Abraxis also have some filthy doodle incoming)
This is however many. Like I said, y'all know who you are. Please just leave me a footnote with your hour claims in this journal when you get the chance over the next 24-ish hours if you can!
PREVIOUS QUEUE (for Han's memory purposes) OF THINGS WITH FINISH PRIORITY:
1.
Fenric - 3 hours to go on the KAHLO MUCHA (this one has priority above all others)
2.
Lionel - approx. 2.5-ish hours spent between pieces, 6.6 originally paid, still awaiting design clearance?
3.
Bast_TW Sketch PAGE complete, waiting on choice/confirmation for which to take to a speedpaint finish - 1h 40m in remaining paid credit from 8h
4.
Rooth - well sort of. Gift-ish thing. Working on this! Maybe finishing tonight?
NOTE: I know I stated this before, but for CLIENTS I HAVE =NOT= PERSONALLY PROMISED WORK, about 30 hours are openly available. Clients I HAVE promised work, your hours don't count towards my "open" ones right now, even though they are valid. I'm not even gonna try to gauge how many hours this winds up stopping at this round; I'll tackle it regardless, and am looking forward to being quite busy!
1, 2, 3, open! READY SET GO.
(-2/30-ish hours left)
AND REMEMBER, I WILL be opening up for that side queue (restricted to icons and speed-portraits at 2h) later on tonight or tomorrow if you're interested. If anyone wants to preemptively claim a slot there in this journal, I don't mind, either. Cheers, all! Happy Thursday!

Commission slots incoming on Thursday!
Posted 9 years agoJust tossing a courtesy note out there for any prospective customers! Since I'm down to scraping the barrel for my last batch, it's about high time I get a new queue going. So, consider this the heads up! Slots SHOULD be made available for around 40 hours of my time on Thursday the 29th, via journal, around 6 PM CST! If there are any changes to that I'll update it here, but not expecting it!
Hope you've all had a great week so far, guys!
