STILL REMAINS / THE HUMAN ABSTRACT
Posted 14 years agoGot some good news and some really really bad news.
First the good news! Some of you may already know, some may not, Still Remains have reunited and just released a new track that you can go check out on their facebook. It's nothing crazy but it's more towards Of Love & Lunacy than The Serpent which rules because I could only get into like... 3 songs on that album.
THE BAD NEWS, and it's pretty lame.
The Human Abstract has broken up. Back in August this year Travis left the band to "focus on the production aspect of his career" which I would assume means he's going to go write more dubstep with ModifiedNoise (I love dubstep but ModifiedNoise doesn't really impress me much, I'd much rather have THA than them). THA isn't going to be searching for a new singer so they're going on an indefinite "hiatus" which more than likely will be permanent. Way bummed about this because Digital Veil was just so good. I was really excited to hear more from them but as of now it seems that's not happening.
Other than that I don't really have many new tunes to share with you guys, commissions and skyrim have been holding my attention hostage haha whoops. Just figured I'd give you a bit of an update to some music news. PS: Happy New Year. Let's hope the last 355 days on earth (provided you think that mayan calendar crap means anything lol) produce some rad music. I know Conditions and Mychildren Mybride are working on new albums right now so that's already some stuff to look forward to (if you're into them).

Not bad, not quite as interested in it as the previous album but it's solid, more clean vocals, some acoustic and chill parts etc. Not really excited about how they've sacrificed a lot of the technical guitar work they had on Depravity but yeah. Worth a listen if nothing else.

OH, SLEEPER - CHILDREN OF FIRE
Posted 14 years agoOkay so it's been a good while since I saw an album trailer that literally made me say "Holy fucking shit, this album is RIDICULOUS", probably not since The Human Abstract released Digital Veil but WOW. The new Oh, Sleeper is absolutely insane. I wasn't really even aware they were working on new material until Solid State recently tweeted about an interactive trailer for the album so I figured hey, they're pretty good, love their stuff, let's check it out. So far I've only listened to Endseekers and The Marriage Of Steel And Skin but that was enough to blow my mind.
I didn't even realize their guitarist Shane used to be in Between The Buried And Me which would explain why the guitar work is so good. I'd say you're probably missing out if you don't give this album at least one go. It's a perfect blend of heavy and tight techy riffs. One of the best Solid State has to offer.
Am I overhyping this? Probably a little bit but regardless, I'm excited about this album and it's absolutely worth a listen.

instead they have a new vocalist named Hance Alligood.
i like it overall but its not the same like how Carter did it,
then again its only one song.

The Victory colors for this press are Orange (/300), Purple (/725), Clear Smoke (150), and there will also be a Yellow Hottopic exclusive press though it's not available yet and I don't know the pressing number for that. If you want to take your chances and wait, the HT press is going to be $16.99 so it's a little cheaper.
If you dig this album I'd definitely say grab this asap because it's gonna be sold out fast.

TDWP - DEAD THRONE
Posted 14 years agoTook me a bit to find a download that wasn't taken down but finally tracked it down. I'm only 2/3 into the album but it's solid. Builds upon what's come from Roots Above and Zombie. Nothing too mindblowing about this release but it's definitely worth a listen especially if you're a fan of TDWP. Some of their most mature sounding tunes are on here. Breakdowns and reverb-laden melodies are still a hefty portion of the equation making up their style on here (although Kansas is a good instrumental) but it's done fairly tastefully. Mike's low vocals are still getting pretty blown out but it's not too terrible, he's slightly toned down on the lows and added shouting vocals. Jeremy's vocals have definitely matured A LOT on this album, there's not so much of the high-pitched whiny stuff like on plagues and the choruses are definitely catchy. Overall it's a good album, worth a listen. Much as people will complain they're from a washed out, stagnated genre, TDWP still stays above the waters with this album.
