An interesting week, reaching out to help those in need.
Posted 11 years agoAs the "con high" from FC starts to fade away, and I immerse myself back into reality so to speak, some interesting things happened since the last day of fc and the other day.
It all started on the last night of FC. I had not eaten anything all day and the only thing other than water I had consumed was a frapucino thing from the in hotel starbucks. I decided to go out and try to grab something from subway across the street. I was very low on money so this was most likely going to be my last major meal until getting back home the following day.
As I was walking down the street, there were quite a few other fur's around, all mingling about, fursuits, people, etc, and I definitely blended in with my random fur stuff. I wasn't in suit but I had my tail, and other little accessories. As I walked down the street, I noticed a young woman approaching me, she seemed somewhere around late 20's ish, and for whatever reason, she singled me out among the numerous other furs and came up to me asking for some spare change to buy food.
I live in SF, and I know homeless and not well to do people, and one of the things I always watch out for are those that ask for money, and end up using it to just buy drugs to get their high instead of real food that they need, or something that will actually help them out. I wondered if this young woman might be doing the same, but when I looked at her, I could see that she was sincere, there was something about her that was obviously different, and she was definitely a level headed individual who was on tough times. I ended up giving her enough to hopefully last a few small meals, and briefly talked to her a bit before wishing her the best as she went on her way. She was very genuine and grateful, and also surprised a bit. I may have gone without much to eat that day, but she obviously needed something way more than I did. When I look at what happened, I think back, and maybe she did end up just spending it on something dumb, but then again maybe not, and my hope is that one day, she'll be back on her feet, living well, and she will remember that guy from that strange convention happening of animal people, and she'll remember that there are people who want to help out in that fandom.
Anyways, after that happened, getting back home the next day and resting up, I get a call from a church friend who wants to know if I would be interested in helping out in a community project.
Turns out that this friend along with a few others go out to a pretty sketchy part of the next city over, where crime is high and the rate of poverty is as well, and they just set up a bbq pit, buy a truck load of hot dogs and drinks, and invite the not so well to do individuals off the street to come and have fellowship with people, talk, eat, and build relationship. I had heard of this outreach and wondered about it, but the area where this takes place was always something I was wary of. But for whatever reason I decided to go.
It ended up being one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
As I helped out that night, cooking hot dogs, talking to these different people, my heart went out for them. It's easy for me in SF to go through the city and see the different homeless and poor individuals and almost not think of them as people, just another person there on the street. But actually getting up close, talking to them, finding out their backgrounds, it was truly incredible. Each of them had a story, and wether it was bad choices in life, or just pure bad luck, they found themselves to where they are now. One individual in particular I had a heart for. He couldnt speak, it was obvious that from a past of what was probably some drug, it had left his mind not quite working correctly. He couldnt look one direction at a time, if you tried to talk to him he'd sort of daze out and walk around. But this guy had a skateboard on him, given, a very old and terribly beat up skateboard, but it was still functional. After we gave him food and drink and he mingled about a bit, he got on the board and started just going up and down the street, but oh my gosh he had total control and skill. He was carving down the hill and doing slides and whatnot like nothing, and yet when off the board, he was totally dazed and unable to communicate. It made me wonder what happened to him through his life to get to that point, I figure at one point skating was a big deal to him when he was younger.
After that night, I went home and just had to think to myself for a long time. Realizing how many of these people out in the streets are not just "crazies" or "people who rebelled and are dangerous", but they are actually true individuals, just as much as any of us are individuals, and every bit of help that they get can be absolutely life changing.
I feel that I have a big heart for these sort of people now, and I want to get involved in doing more things like this, cause those experiences of being able to be there and help out truly impacted me in a way that nothing has before.
My hope is that other fur's can also experience this sort of thing, or at least be aware that these people are people and every bit of help can mean the world. Go out of your way to be a supporter when you get the chance, Be wise of course, and be careful, but do what you can.
For sure, im seeing things different now.

FC MEOW OMG :3 !!!
Posted 11 years agoHoly meowwwwwwwww
FC was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I am so happy I got to go and have fun with so many awesome people.
First of all, I must thank my roomies for makin the event awesome. All of them, Allegro, Mr Fancy, Freya, Rain, Stormwing, and Timber, having awesome roomies makes con all that much more enjoyable and it was truly fun to get to hang with all of them this week.
I gotta give a huge shout out to
mischiefmakers for getting me my suit in time for FC! Honestly, this suit is showing to be absolutely life changing for me. After going through other suits that just never really worked for me, I had almost given up hope in ever getting a suit that truly felt like "me" and worked well for me. But when I got this suit, I was absolutely blown away at how comfortable I felt and how truly awesome it worked out for me. I suited longer than I ever thought I would have and did things I didn't think I'd be able to do in suit. There were numerous points I would just wake up in the morning, and look over at the table where my suit head was and say to myself "holy meow, that is actually mine, and like, that's legit." It truly made the con so incredible for me words can't even describe. I literally went all out in suit. Spinning poi, dancing during the rave's at night, going out in suit around downtown San Jose. Like omg meow so much fun! ^ ^
That said, I was absolutely blown away at how close the other mischief maker suiters are. all of those guys are super fun and totally accepted me among their group. They treat everyone like family and while I at first felt super intimidated being the "new guy" of them, It quickly fell away and I felt totally at home mingling and being silly with the rest of them. All of them were so nice and chill, can't wait to get the chance to hang with them all again someday ^ ^
Speaking of those crayonz, super cool to hang with
ankutenwolf , super chill fellow suiter to hang with who I got to briefly meet last year, awesome to get the chance to spend more time with this year!
Also got to hang with fellow YOYOFURS! YEEEEE YOYOFUR REPRESENT!
twitchyfox
puppywolf TamOcello (idk fa T.T) all of my fellow yoyo fur's rock so hard and I love that we could all throw down a bit at the con and show the rest of the fur world what we can do. So awesome. ^ ^
Always awesome to see
simboku and watch him spin poi and glowstring. That guy has so much skill its ridiculous and hugely inspirational to me. Can only dream to get as good someday.
samoywolff13 kind of made my day at the masquerade when her act started playing hardstyle. SO HAPPY TO HEAR A BIT OF HARDSTYLE CUZ THERE WAS LIKE NO OTHER HARDSTYLE AT THE CON AT ANYTIME T.T. lolol
So many more great people and great experiences throughout this con, it was truly incredible.
Should mention, I HAVE NO IDEA how I won FC unleashed. I still is a blur and absolute shock to me that it happened. I am truly grateful to have worked with the AV crew and organizers who made it happen, and I loved hanging out with the other performers in the back while we waited to go on. Everyone was super chill and very friendly and supportive. Not to mention SO DANG TALENTED ARGHHHH ALL OF THEM ^ ^
Such a great time, and so many people who made this con an absolute furry heaven for me. And yes, I did film much footage to be compiled into a video. I had the assistance of Allegro as well this time around so be expecting something absolutely AMAZIN! ^ ^
So blessed.
Until later,
SEE YALL AT FLASHLIGHT CON 2015 LOLOLOLLLLLLL!

Spinners Colab Video 2014!
Posted 12 years ago
Hey all you awesome furs!
So, this idea has been in my mind for a while, and I decided to finally go for it, and make it a reality.
From my time in the fandom, I have seen that there are quite a few awesome manipulators of spinny things ^ ^ And by that, I mean Poi, glowstringing, and staff spinning!
A few years ago, I had seen a glowstringer colab video done with many members of the fandom, and I would love to see this happen, but taken beyond just stringers, to include poi and staff spinners.
Thus, I am announcing the 2014 Spinners colab video!
A chance for all the awesome furs of the fandom to show their talent in any of the spinning realms of fun. ^ ^
2014? But its 2013?
I am listing this as "2014" as I want to release this at the beginning of 2014, so yes, there will be much time to collect footage during the rest of the year.
So, with that said, lets get into the specifics, info, and all that good stuff.
How this will work?
=================
The colab video will feature segments of different spinners showing their skills one after another.
Video's will be received VIA submissions, and edited together by myself for release at the start of 2014.
So, let's get into the even greater specifics.
Submitting Footage.
===============
So how is this going to work? Maybe you're thinking "Oh I totally want to be part of this! How?"
Pretty simple.
Record roughly a good minute of an example of your spinning, keeping editing to a minimum, and get your video files to me via email. (Video submissions can be sent to haru_ray[at]yahoo.com ) or hosted on dropbox for download (Sending me the link to the file) Basically, any effective way to get the video files to me works, just be sure that the files are a file type that I can work with (Mpeg, MOV, Mp4, etc, no Wmv). Be sure to include your FA name if possible, so I can credit you in the final video! Just keep any text off of your video submission please :)
Recording footage.
==================
Obviously, many of you already know how to record good footage of yourself spinning, but if you have the skills, but aren't quite sure on the best way to film, Ill offer a bit of advice.
For LED poi, floodlights, glowstringing, glow staff etc. It's best to not record in a completely pitch black room. While it may look super fun and trippy to yourself, it isn't the best for viewing technique through video. Having a bit of illumination to show where the objects move about the body is quite crucial in a true showcase.
That said, if you are using bright enough objects that you can be seen quite well, then by all means! Go for the dark room/dark outside. Whatever you feel gets your showcase across in the best way is perfect. :)
For Fire Poi, Fire Staff, etc. As always, be safe, and the same type of advice can be said.
If you are showcasing daytime spinning (non LED, glow, or fire spinning), be sure that we can see your moves clearly!
Fursuit or no?
==================
So obviously, as our fandom does have quite a few fursuiters in our midst, and since the question is very much bound to come up. YES, you can totally fursuit in your footage you send in. And if you don't fursuit, don't worry, its not necessary!
Or, for a unique twist, submit a combo of a bit of your in suit, and out of suit spinning. Whatever you like! Heck, spin in trippy rave clothes if you want. ^ ^
Deadlines!
==================
Ill be taking video submissions until December 31st 2013 at midnight PST.
After this point, I will be getting to work on editing together the footage.
Thats basically all you need to know!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
And even if you can't spin (or if you can)
HELP SPREAD THE WORD! Post the link to this journal around wherever you like!
I want to get as many spinners of the fandom in on this as possible, so getting the word out is crucial!
Finally, if you need some inspiration, Check some of my faces.

Again, any questions, feel free to ask, spread the word, and get spinning!
Talk to you all soon!

Glowstringers/spinners Colab Video?
Posted 12 years agoSo I have come to notice that there quite a few stringers/spinners in the fandom, and quite a few of them have insane amounts of talent.
I was thinking, has there been a Stringing colab video done of our fellow spinners in the fandom?
I was thinking of hosting something like this, and getting some spinners to send in a bit of video of them spinning, and combining all of the footage into one big colab video to show the public the flow of our fandom! :)
Just trying to figure out the best way to go about getting the word out.
Both the fa glowstringers and poi spinner groups are kind of dead, but I know that there are literally tons of spinners all around. (Go to a con, and you'll know what I mean at basically every dance)
Welcoming ideas, def want to do something like this.

Posted 12 years agoBeen low on funds recently, lots of different things going on not just with myself but with family and whatnot, so sadly, I must put my Sky fursuit up for sale.

Califur a.k.a SAKE con, amazing!
Posted 12 years ago(SAKE explained later in journal, mwuahaha)
Got back from Califur, my second con ever, sooo much fun. Lots of great memories!
Rode down with
goldenbullet666 early friday morning from San Fran and got to the Marriot hotel around 9:30 AM (Roomed with Golden and SeaWolf). Was kinda out of it on friday since I had only slept a tiny bit the night before but it wasn't too bad. Luckily I bought a monster at a gas station so I perked up and managed to stay mostly awake >:) Registration went smoothly even though the line was rather long. Noticed that lot's of people seem to think that cutting in line is something that is perfectly acceptable to do though D:<
Was super happy to see
happyangeltiger there! He's been a huge inspiration to me and I did not know he was gonna be there. Got to finally meet him so already my day was made XD.
Lots of fun things going on friday. Ran into fellow bay area fur's such as
wildchild ,
thatpurplefox and
inashne117 which was awesome. Super fun time at the friday night dance. I was pretty much the first to actually go in but it was quickly filled up.
Was spinning flowlights and got to meet
simboku who had seen me spinning for a bit. Oh my gosh this guy is so insane at glowstringing its unbelievable! So insane watching both himself and WildChild glowstring, super legit. Yall make me want to start buying ultra's again! ^ ^
Dance was super fun, and I lol'd at how hyped people got when caramelldansen was played, ya crazies!
Saturday was awesome, lots of great stuff going on. The reading of the "Fursona Non Grata" was one of the greatest thing's I've ever witnessed. So many lulz were had, and I can't wait to see this production become a full reality!
Fursuit parade was awesome, although I am sad many did not get to participate due to the parade starting 30 minutes early and ending when it was scheduled to start > . <, it was explained later that there was some miscommunication and fursuiters started arriving at the starting point outside earlier than stated, and fursuiters standing outside in 85 degree humid weather is a bad combination so they were forced to start before any sort of medical issue might have occured.
Got to go out to dinner with a group of fur's to a nearby Japanese market/food court/mostlegitjapanesefoodyouwillfindincalifornia. Hahaha, no joke, that stuff was good, and not generic wannabe japanese food court food. And not to bad of a price either! (And thanks to Purple for not killing me when driving me there btw! ^ ^)
Saturday dance was again super awesome, more spinning with Simboku and WildChild. I love that this fandom has so many who are interested in the flow arts as such, it's a great release and element of expression that I think many people would greatly benefit from taking up. Lot's of fun :) (And btw, there was more caramelldansen that night, what the heck DJ's lol)
Sunday was an interesting day. Last day of a con is always kind of bittersweet, especially for Califur since it ends in the middle of sunday. Closing ceremonies was made officially legit thanks to
raket who started the movement of fursuiters messing with the individuals on stage. Plus the fact that he took a can of silly string to the face, props forever. XD
Big highlight was def hanging out in
rioku's room with J Foxx, Fire Wolf, and some others who I didn't catch the names of as we played an awesome game of Cards Against Humanity, complimented by SAKE (pronounced "sayke" as in for heavens sake, not "sah-kee", people need to get it right...yeah you had to be there.) I swear, that game is so terrible, but such a good way of bringing people together.
Rode back with Golden in the morning, and got ended up running into
tripecollie on the freeway (no not literally haha). We passed him up on the next lane, to which he responded by somehow managing to get his suit head on while driving and passing us up waving to us whilst wearing the suit head while driving. That guy's insane, Lawl. Awesome way to finish up the con experience.
Lots of great memories, made some new friends, had tons of fun, and now have a new con that I can check off of my "attended" list. Hopefully I can attend next year. I hope that they take into consideration the reccomendation of a dance competition that someone recommended during the Q n A on the last day. That is something I would def consider doing in the future.
Random thoughts at random and words: SquidPope, HURRICANE KATRINA, Backwards Never Gonna Give You Up, Barky high pitched fursuit that apparently was not a cat, guy with squeeker all around the con needs to be EXTERMINATED!
Good stuff, look out for my Califur Video coming soon in the next few days most likely!
See some of yall at frolic, or whenever!
*bark!* ^ ^
