▶ MIDWEST FURFEST 2018: CON REPORT - BEST CON ◀
Posted 7 years agoThis con, was BY FAR, the BEST convention I have ever been too.
I got to meet so many wonderful people, met up with friends I haven’t seen in ages and ones I have never met before - and overall it was amazing.
▶━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◄
THURSDAY:
I drove myself to the airport super early - there was NO TSA line at all; check in was an absolute breeze and I was on my way. I landed early too - but I ended up sticking around for a bit for kikimochan to get off her plane. I thought we would travel to the same hotel and split after but I ended up just going to my hotel instead. It was a trip and a half to find out how to get to the shuttles but we both made it to our separate hotels. Arriving at the hotel was super easy, and I was the first stop - As soon as the shuttle pulled up; my wonderful boy ran outside to meet me. Super sappy moments are my favorite ❤ We went inside and I got to meet my roommate jamesthedog (MAN, you’re cool as fuck!) - and got my stuff settled into the room and snuggled on the bed for a bit with my boy - then we ran over to the main hotel to meet up with Kikimo (who was in suit); waited for her to un-suit and walked around for a bit, scoping out the con! We hung out for a bit inside after meeting up with Kiki again and met up with another great friend (Snowball). We all walked over to McDonalds down the road and walked around the con some more before heading in for the night.
FRIDAY:
Me and Peanut slept in on this day, snuggled and watched cartoons for a bit before getting ready to shower and head out for the day! We walked around for a bit with friends - and I suited up in fullsuit! We got a ton of good photo’s went to hangout at a party at destinrhodes's for a while - and ended up passing out sometime around 2am. (Pretty early for me honestly) This day was mostly walking around finding parties and friends while suiting! Just wanted to scope what was around the con and enjoy the day.
SATURDAY:
Me and Peanut woke up early and grabbed starbucks this day! I got a few good photo’s of our drinks. I got to meet some other cool ass people like my friend Jarrod and our friend Snacks! Me and Peanut headed out to a photoshoot meetup early in the day and I got a TON of cute photos and videos from it! We went to hang out with gmothetypholsion and ordered subway while waiting before the photoshoot! Me and Peanut snagged both our badges today. (Easily thank god! It took about 15 minutes for mine -prereg- and about 10 minutes later in the day to grab peanuts -regular reg-) We waited for a bit until lines were down to snag badges, so we didn’t have to wait 3+ hours. We got to meet up with some of Peanut’s old time friends (Like Goatmom / Eevee ❤) and a few others! We walked around in the dealers den and got to see some of my friends and Peanuts friends: tyrawr , mewmewkitty , swanson , ryuudaiga , chumbasket and a few others! We snagged quite a few goodies- but mostly just hung out with the group (Goatmom) and did our own thing! Me and Peanut ended up suiting for a bit really late - and went to the dance! Props to kikimochan who got a TON of really cute photos from this day as well, I’ll have to link a few here once I put them online. (We ended up seeing Kung Fu Joe / Violent Jay, but he was in a rush / not in his suit and we couldn't get a photo D:). We de-suited and walked around for a bit, hanging out and meeting up with a few more people like zoezamora , nillkitty , dreadfox , kuzapanda - this night ended pretty good. Me and peanut went back to our room and settled in for the night, being cute dorks and cuddling to sleep.
SUNDAY:
Slept in on this day. We didn’t do a whole ton this day, but we walked around for a bit with Kiki. (Who hungout with us and slept in our room for the night!) MONDAY:
The sad day. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off at like 4:30AM and it was COLD AS HELL outside - so we went through that and went back to the hotel to sleep for a little bit. I still had to get up and pack pretty early, even though my flight was at 12. Me and Peanut said our sad goodbyes, and off I went on the shuttle to the airport. Not much about this day, just, flying home sad, but happy for all the memories ❤

THURSDAY:
I drove myself to the airport super early - there was NO TSA line at all; check in was an absolute breeze and I was on my way. I landed early too - but I ended up sticking around for a bit for kikimochan to get off her plane. I thought we would travel to the same hotel and split after but I ended up just going to my hotel instead. It was a trip and a half to find out how to get to the shuttles but we both made it to our separate hotels. Arriving at the hotel was super easy, and I was the first stop - As soon as the shuttle pulled up; my wonderful boy ran outside to meet me. Super sappy moments are my favorite ❤ We went inside and I got to meet my roommate jamesthedog (MAN, you’re cool as fuck!) - and got my stuff settled into the room and snuggled on the bed for a bit with my boy - then we ran over to the main hotel to meet up with Kikimo (who was in suit); waited for her to un-suit and walked around for a bit, scoping out the con! We hung out for a bit inside after meeting up with Kiki again and met up with another great friend (Snowball). We all walked over to McDonalds down the road and walked around the con some more before heading in for the night.
FRIDAY:
Me and Peanut slept in on this day, snuggled and watched cartoons for a bit before getting ready to shower and head out for the day! We walked around for a bit with friends - and I suited up in fullsuit! We got a ton of good photo’s went to hangout at a party at destinrhodes's for a while - and ended up passing out sometime around 2am. (Pretty early for me honestly) This day was mostly walking around finding parties and friends while suiting! Just wanted to scope what was around the con and enjoy the day.
SATURDAY:
Me and Peanut woke up early and grabbed starbucks this day! I got a few good photo’s of our drinks. I got to meet some other cool ass people like my friend Jarrod and our friend Snacks! Me and Peanut headed out to a photoshoot meetup early in the day and I got a TON of cute photos and videos from it! We went to hang out with gmothetypholsion and ordered subway while waiting before the photoshoot! Me and Peanut snagged both our badges today. (Easily thank god! It took about 15 minutes for mine -prereg- and about 10 minutes later in the day to grab peanuts -regular reg-) We waited for a bit until lines were down to snag badges, so we didn’t have to wait 3+ hours. We got to meet up with some of Peanut’s old time friends (Like Goatmom / Eevee ❤) and a few others! We walked around in the dealers den and got to see some of my friends and Peanuts friends: tyrawr , mewmewkitty , swanson , ryuudaiga , chumbasket and a few others! We snagged quite a few goodies- but mostly just hung out with the group (Goatmom) and did our own thing! Me and Peanut ended up suiting for a bit really late - and went to the dance! Props to kikimochan who got a TON of really cute photos from this day as well, I’ll have to link a few here once I put them online. (We ended up seeing Kung Fu Joe / Violent Jay, but he was in a rush / not in his suit and we couldn't get a photo D:). We de-suited and walked around for a bit, hanging out and meeting up with a few more people like zoezamora , nillkitty , dreadfox , kuzapanda - this night ended pretty good. Me and peanut went back to our room and settled in for the night, being cute dorks and cuddling to sleep.
SUNDAY:
Slept in on this day. We didn’t do a whole ton this day, but we walked around for a bit with Kiki. (Who hungout with us and slept in our room for the night!) I JUST WANTED TO MAKE A SMALL HAPPY JOURNAL
I've been fighting with my insurance companies since January to cover my Medication (HRT)
The last two weeks have been the worst hell, playing phone tag with 2 different insurance companies, the pharmacy and my doctor-
but I finally got my doctor to call in last week and get all the right phone numbers / documents settled to state it was medically necessary-

I have quite a large queue still with many people asking when their art will be finished. Unfortunately with how my life has been the past few weeks / months, I continue to push deadlines back and stress about working on artwork. At this time, I really have no idea when my queue will be finished. Stressing has taken a toll on my artwork quality and I constantly worry about getting things done faster. (Seeing below about a new job) - I am offering refunds to anyone who has NOT had any sketches / wips sent to them. I am still working on artwork, but it is very slow. I am unsure how long these will take me to finish due to said new job, but I will try my hardest to improve on time and quality. I am still closed for commissions for those who have asked, an most likely will not be open for quite a long time. I may take a small commission here / there for conventions later down the long road, but big pieces will not be open at this time, or in the near future.

I finally got another job in the town I live in! I was recently employed as an Assistant Store manager for a large retail chain, and will be focusing primarily on it for the future. I have been on HRT for quite some time now (over 7 months) - (see GoFundMe for what that is, if you’re unsure!) And this will help me immensely since my insurance doesn’t cover anything but needles. (I still pay for the actual medications and such) I will also be able to save up for a better car and hopefully top surgery (also see below) as well as be able to move back to Texas within the next year or two!! (My main goal)

I am starting up a GoFundMe to fund my top surgery. For those who are unaware (as I do not talk much about this on public social media) I am transgender. I have been taking HRT since the beginning of January, and am saving up for top surgery [HOPEFULLY] before my next birthday. (July, 2019). The doctor I have chosen to go with is out of state, and unfortunately does not accept any insurance. (Though my insurance won’t work for anyone anyways). In this time, I will be out of work for 6+ weeks, and the surgery is, very costly. You can read more about it when I post my page publicly. I will also *attempt* to start up my YouTube videos again. I haven’t made anything in MANY months, but would like to continue to record my progress to show how far I’ve come, and share my knowledge / experiences for those who are curious about it / or wondering about what happens on T.

Sorry I haven't been active as of late!
I am still on the road with :ZoeZamoralink: so I have WiFi sporadically!

Since I am still on the road with Zana, and my WiFi is crap / hardly ever available - I can only work when we are at stops since the cab is WAY too jerky to draw in.
(I have tried drawing while we drive, and it comes out HILARIOUSLY terrible lol)
I've gotten a few sketches out to those waiting (my trello needs to be updated) and I'm still lining a huge NSFW piece which will be done before the month is out.
PEETS YCH slots are slowly being worked on, since they don't take me much time and there is no drawing involved (Only recolors), is why I've been working on them while we drive (for those wondering!)

My birthday is one month from today! (July 9th!)
I'll be 23 ;w; old as heck
One day AFTER my birthday will also be my half a year / 6 month anniversary on T! ('ll eventually make a YouTube update video for when this happens!)
For my birthday, I am -attempting- to go to Anthrocon with Zana; I do have a family event which falls on the weekend, but with scheduling of Zana's work,
I'm not sure if we will make it back since we have to stop/be in PA on the 4th and we wouldn't leave until the 9th/10th. (Plans, eventually!)

I have a new update for those waiting on art:
Some art will be put on hold for a week - 2 weeks.
WHY?

I am going on another long road trip adventure with ZoeZamora !
During this time I will be drawing / working on small commissions, and I will be able to get back to Texas.
IN TEXAS, is my thin tablet pen. (The one that doesn't cramp up / hurt my hand while drawing for long periods of time, which right now is why I cannot draw / finish many commissions)
When I get my better pen, I will be able to work longer days and finish all current commissions faster and be able to open for more commissions soon after for those waiting for me to open slots!
If you are a current commissioner, and would like an update on your commission, you can check my trello at any time under where it says "QUEUE" on my page, or journal footer / header!
I will be sketching out smaller things, as already some of you waiting from TFF commissions have gotten. Some of the older works I need to finish, WILL BE WORKED ON FIRST when I get my better pen back.

FWA this year, was honestly, terrible from the get go.
Everything that could have gone wrong, went 1000000% fucked.
I had such high standards for this con and was let down so hard.

So the convention for me and to my friends, let's call them M and K, started on Thursday April 5th. We left about 2.5 / 3 hours before our flight so that we would have time to drive there. What me and one friend didn't know was that the airport was over an hour away, but still seeing that we should be able to make it on time. We didn't account for the fact that they were sports games and other things going on in the city we had to go through (Pax East) which we learned about after we came home from the convention. Instead, we had to drive through an insane amount of traffic and ended up missing a few turns resulting in all three of us missing our first flight. We get to the airport and have to pay an extra 200$+ for us to all get there at 11:30 at night so we didn't lose our hotel room. It resulted in anger and being upset between all three of us, and me missing out a plan for a date that someone was supposed to take me on (which was fine). Whatever, no big deal.
We get on the plane, get to the convention and we get our room settled in. I hang out with my friend, who let's call Y, who I invited to my room to sleep over for the night, everything is going all good and well we all go to sleep. I can't sleep at all, and get woken up in the middle of the night by my friend. I woke up countless times, I remember waking up more then a handful of times and looking at the clock, seeing I had only been "asleep" for 2 hours. I barely had any sleep the first night. That's fine that's how it usually goes, whatever. Day 0.

We start up the first day of the convention, I suit for a little while and I stay with my two friends M and K, checking out artist alley and suiting and whatnot. Trying to have fun. I end up going out on a date with friend Y to the movies and after the movie he gets upset because I changed my mind about wanting to do stuff with him, so instead he guilt trips me back at the hotel saying "This is my last con, I always get fucked over by people I like, etc etc" because I won't put out for him. He tells me I'm using him and lots of other drama that I don't want to go into right now, not worth my time so I just drop it. Unfortunately, which this is on me, I invited him into my room to stay for the weekend and took him out of his old room so he doesn't have anywhere else to go now. I try to talk things through with him and tell him that I still want to be his friend, but he's not seeing the full picture and saying I used him and that he thought that we had something, - which I clearly stated before the convention that it was just as friends and he had complied that he understood that. Obviously not the case here. He gets super upset at me and now we are no longer friends- so I leave my own room for the night, and wander for a little while. I end up going to one of my friends rooms (let's call this friend Z) and cry them my sob story since I have no one to vent too, I end up getting tipsy, and passing out on one of their extra beds. I get woken up by the sound of this random dude snoring like a factory shortly after falling asleep, so again another night of me barely sleeping. I "wake up" super early and head back to my room, shower, and try to get ready for the day while the room is super quiet and awkward. Day 1.

The next day, friend Y left the room - two people came in and were being very rude about the situation towards us thinking we fucked over friend Y ("friend" Y was talking shit about me to people, lovely.) I got invited out to Sushi with my friend Z and their friend. Unfortunately I was going to invite my two friends M and K, but they did have other plans and it always seemed like I was one step behind them. I really didn't even get to see them this entire convention, whatever. They hung out and did stuff by themselves, which is fine, I just wish I could have hung out with both of them more because I haven't seen them both in a really long time and I just felt very left out so I hung out with somebody else. Back to being invited out to Sushi, I got invited out to Sushi and we went out but I didn't realize how far the food place was, so we were out for quite a few hours which resulted in me missing a transgender meet that I was looking forward to going to and I had a few people that were excited to meet me but that's okay, shit happens. Sushi was good and I ended up meeting a new friend in the process so all is well there. I ended up suiting again with Z and K for a little while and got to see a few more of my friends, we went to the midnight rave and I ended up hanging out with friend Z again, going to sleep in their room because things got kind of awkward in my original room, so I just slept on Z's floor. This night wasn't very good to since I was sleeping on the floor, which was very cold, since the room didn't really have any extra blankets, but waking up I was told there was a free bed I could go too - so I got up and got to sleep a little more, I slept in unfortunately too long / most of the morning/afternoon- which resulted me not going down to the Dealer's Den to see somebody, but they understood thankfully and I continued on to the last day, Sunday.

Sunday I hung out with friend Z pretty much the entire day from beginning to end (which didn't really end because I never went to sleep this night.) I got to go in the pool which was really nice and I got to do some fun things, and got super tipsy at night, but ended up finding out something very bad happened over the course of the weekend, which is something very personal I'm not going to go into at this time, resulting me crying my eyes out for three-plus hours in drunken hysteria in Z's room. I did get to talk to someone who I thought didn't want anything to do with me anymore and realized that was clearly not the case, but going home I just felt destroyed from everything that had happened over the weekend and I cried myself in the hotel on the way out, in the Uber on the way to the airport, at the airport, on the plane, once we got off the plane in M's house, and passed out practically the entirety of Monday. (I didn't really have a Monday.) Getting on the airplane was really crappy as well, there was over an hour almost a 2 hour wait because TSA was having issues with long lines and I was really drunk / hungover in the process of going through TSA - which does not feel good. Terrible headaches, bright lights and loud people don't mix well. I tried to talk it out with friend Y when I got to my own house, but instead they continued to be rude and blocked me without second thought. Terrible ending just leaving a bad taste to an already awful weekend.

I know there's probably a lot that I'm missing, I wish this weekend could have been better, but I can't really think of anything at the moment since this entire convention just kind of hurt me. I had such good thoughts going into it thinking that this convention was going to be so great; I was going to bring meet so many people and connect with so many new people, and it ended up ruining a really good friendship that I had, possibly ruining part of my life forever and just plenty of other things. This was not the experience that I had remembered from my first Furry Weekend Atlanta two years ago, maybe next year will be better.

TLDR; - Short version; Missed flight and had to pay 200$+ extra, lost friend of 4+ years because I wouldn't put out for him, didn't do anything I was invited to do because I was upset or wasting time, some personal things I do not wish to talk about at this time, left to go home with the worst hangover / was drunk on the way to the airport - cried myself leaving the con, on the way to the airport, and once we landed / got to our destination.
Fuck Weekend Atlanta. 2018 wasn't good to me. I wish things could be different.
I'm not really looking for anything out of this journal, it's more of just a vent thing.
