i'm a dumb little idiot and somehow managed to forget to post an update on same day commissions in my journal, so here's this. copy and pasted from the submission:

speaking of commissions, you may have noticed mine have been "officially" closed for a while. uh i don't think i'm gonna have "regular" commissions anymore. maybe this'll change in future, but i'm no longer interested in having a permanent commission info list or in taking orders at any random given time. art is literally, unabashedly my job now, and as mean as it may sound (though i say it with no malice! oh what a wretch am i!) commissions for one-off pics of people's OCs don't hold the top priority spot for me anymore

so instead what i'm gonna do is open commissions sporadically with limited slots. i'll fill orders as i go (with much shorter deadlines then i've employed in the past!) and once all slots are filled, that's it. this art will likely be more expensive then my past ventures because, and yes i can feel my head swelling up as i say this, my time has become more valuable and so has my skillset. if anyone disagrees, i can respect that and i won't hold any grudges if they choose to stop patronizing me

i'd also (probably) be willing to accept random commission inquiries if ever anyone really super badly wants something that isn't listed for sale, but no promises. it'll all depend on the scope of the art and the time i have available. pricing likely won't be super consistent either because frankly i've been underselling myself for years and it inadvertently taught me how much i'm willing to work for _ amount of money

Yeah, I'm getting tired of these journals too. I feel like this is a very familiar kind of post coming from me, and I really hate that. So I'm refunding and closing commissions until I can be completely, entirely certain it won't result in clownshit stupid long wait times to move the process along. That's been entirely my fault and isn't the result of anyone else's behavior.

Almost immediately after posting this, I will be sending refunds to everyone who currently has a slot in my queue. Hey guys, small update real quick. Commissioners may wanna read this.

So within recent months I've managed to pick up some pretty good work on a couple of different projects. Problem is, you add that to the commission work I do, I don't have much flexibility to my schedule anymore. This would be fine if I didn't have other things in my life I have to do alongside work lol. This imbalance means I've been neglecting personal non-work responsibilities, and if I don't want that then I have to neglect my work responsibilities.

To be frank, I don't like that and there's no good reason for me to be doing that. My deadlines are self assigned and the vast, vast majority of my customers have been super lenient regarding deadlines to the point where I genuinely don't think most of them even consider them.

That works for me, because it feels like I'd be able to fulfill commissions without fussing over a specific date and just focus on keeping my art looking good. What I'm going to do about this is give having no set-in-stone deadlines in action and simply complete commissions in the order I receive them at the fastest pace I can manage without sacrificing quality. If this idea blows up in my face/doesn't work, I'll reimplement deadlines.

Frankly this doesn't change anything. You can still always ask for updates, still cancel when/if ever you want, still expect your art to be done within around 4-6 weeks.

If anyone's got any questions or concerns about this change, I encourage them to contact me in private so we can discuss. Thanks a million times to everyone who has supported me financially over the years and given me a chance to do the kind of work I love. This is not an implication that commission work is less important to me then other art work, it just means that you guys are good enough to me that I feel I can do this.

Quick ref for different types:
"Portrait" means a character's head from the neck up, including neck accessories
"Halfbody", aka [/b]"waist up"[/b], means about half a character's body length. This is waist up for bipedal characters and from the ribs up in a sitting position for quadrupedal characters
"Fullbody" means the whole of a character's body is featured

To make a long story short, my commissions will be remaining closed for just a short while longer, and I'm fully refunding the handful I still have queued. In the meantime I'll be getting my footing back from some real life setbacks. Secondly, I'm really going to try to move forward in what I'm doing this year. I do that every year obviously, but I mean, like, really dig my heels in and work to become more then just a starving artist. I have some neat things planned that I think others might enjoy - merch is on the way (!!!), as are adopts, as are (maybe?) cheap stuff people can use in their own art or just for fun. I'll be knuckling down on my professional work as well, which means more monthly projects and a good chance of being able to purchase concept art level work of your personal characters.


I have other things I'd like to try as well, but I'd prefer to keep them on the downlow for now, just til they start picking up traction. I'm not sure how many people have noticed this yet, but I've had to gradually increase the length of my commission deadlines because of a surplus of orders I'm getting as well as a ton of art stuff keeping me busy outside of, like, all that. This rocks and if you've ever bought anything from me you're a shining star, but unfortunately it means my workload gets out of hand if I don't give myself a wide berth.

However, because I know some people want certain orders filled by certain special occasions (or they hate waiting which tbh same lol), I want to give you guys a chance to have that, hence the introduction of rush fees. So something I've been thinking of for a while now is expanding my comfort zone regarding art production, especially the art I sell, out into different mediums. I'd like to start making more then just digital drawings for my clientele; I like the idea of selling sculptures, standees, custom printed shirts and mugs and other good stuff, but I don't really know what people are into. As I always do when I don't know shit, I'm asking for some feedback from you people.

I'd appreciate it if people who are interested in buying art, even if it's not from me, would fill me in on the following:
