Lest we forget...
Posted 11 years agoThe third and fourth stanzas of "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam
Lest we forget...
Remembering 100 years... rest in peace. We will remember you!
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam

Valentines day.... YUCK!
Posted 11 years agoSpeaking for this on behalf of all singletons out there, FUCK VALENTINES DAY! Just a cheap excuse for the cards, chocolate and champagne industries to make money! I'm happy being single with a bottle of home-made wine from a nice guy at work :-D

Promotion at work and other things.
Posted 12 years agoHello all,
Hope things are going well Just to give an update on whats going on and it's finally a bit of luck. I got promoted at my place of work after what can be only described as a physically and emotionally draining month. Like any promotion it comes with a really cool pay rise which gives me so much more breathing room every month. Especially since I get to keep my shift patterns that already have wage enhancements on them, so YAY!. But I do admit the added work requirements have been more of a challenge and that I'm going to be responcible for the training of a new technician in the recruitment drive over the next few months is somewhat daunting. I'm trying to see it this way, I used to teach classrooms of 35 students so I can handle a one to one training programme. It's still something that you cannot take likely as training/teaching is a very specific thing that not everyone can do. So careerwise it's going very well.
On the personal front I feel I've turned a corner and heading in a new direction. I suppose you could say I've started to have some 'fun' if you get my meaning Not interested in a relationship or anything like that because I'm not desperate to be in one (though never say never). But I have started to enjoy myself more, want to stop being uptight on that front. Not for the benefit of others but for myself. I'm still young and there's plenty of time for serious stuff, don't see why I should be in any hurry to jump back into another relationship.
In a sense I don't feel like I'm the same person in some ways as I was this time last year, it's like things have changed. I've changed. Don't get me wrong, I'll still be the silly drunken burr XD It's just that in other ways I've grown. I like it. I'm happy Wish all of you the best of luck.
With Love...

Soldier murdered in suspected terror attack.
Posted 12 years agohttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22630303
In the light of what happened in London today I feel compelled to say something. Though not the first and certainly not the last attack attributed to terrorism, I cannot help but feel appauled at the nature and brutality of what has transpired. Killing someone in the name of hate and using a religious belief to disguise the fact disturbs me deeply, and I cannot fully express or articulate how sad it makes me feel. Though I am an athiest, I am not a militant athiest and believe that everyone has the right to have their own religious and spiritual beliefs. The way I personally see it we only get one life, one oppertunity... the fact that men and women around the world decide to spend their life devoted in the murder and destruction of others simply over different beliefs is a sad comment on the whole of humanity.
But at the same time, this is not a time for those on the so called 'other side' to resort to bigotry and hatred of their own. Today I've seen on places like television and the internet post some frankly disgusting comments branding everyone in Islam as a monster, when in actual fact it is down to a minority extremists who do not speak on behalf of the majority within a world mainstream religion. If you want an actual FACT, the word Islam means "peace and ease", perhaps you should think about that before you decide to post something stupid. If you reduce yourself to hate then you are no better than extremists.
We are all the same fundementally, and as odd as it is to say on a website for the furry fandom we are all Human. We are better than all of this and I hope one day we realise it. Before it is too late.
Hope this wasn't too meledramatic.
Take care...

Coughs, Spring, Florida and canned bread!
Posted 12 years agoHey guys,
Just thought I'd do an update since it's been a while. Hope you're all doing well Everything is going fine on this end, especially in terms of my job since it's very likely I'm going to recieve a promotion and therefore a pay rise. It's simple maths really... Pay rise + promotion= Better career and More silly drunken burr moments, like that time when
,
and myself had a stupid (but soo funny XD) debate about wether or not this was actually real bread or not XD ...
http://bbsimg.ngfiles.com/1/2433500.....9700453b3b.jpg
Two of us (who are SANE!) think it's not bread but soggy saddness in a can Anyways, I digress. So YAY promotion XD
Just got over being ill, had a terrible cough/chest infection this past week, but I feel much better now. Resuming my normal routine starting today so thats cool. Thankfully spring has finally arrived (as in weather and not the stupid equinox thing) as it's such a beautiful day, nice and warm. Brilliant beer garden weather
Though the big thing I'm looking foward to this year is my florida holiday to visit my good buddy
, sadly though it's all the way in November, but hopefully time will go quick this year and speed up waiting time. Cannot wait, I love coming to the United States
Well, thats it from me. Catch you guys soon.

Twitter and other news.
Posted 12 years agoI decided to finally cave in to the twitter craze despite me resisting for quite some time. There I am... https://twitter.com/Henkatenka
Don't expect the most thrilling things to be tweeted at first, still trying to get used to it but having friends on twitter will help hehe
I haven't updated in a while but since then my relationship with my fiance ended after nearly five years, which I will admit did kinda knock me sideways for a time. Though having a wonderful christmas with family and friends helped me to gain perspective on things. I'm a strong person and going to live life to the full. So i see it this way, I am foot loose and fancy free
I have also decided to make a perminant move to the United States in a couple of years time (possibly sooner), since I can think just about me for a change and also to start fresh on a lot of things in terms of my personal and professional life.
I would like to thank friends like

for being there for me when I needed help, you guys are just beyond brilliant *hugs*
Hope everything is going well with you all.

Update.
Posted 13 years agoHi guys.
Things are going well, been very busy with work and such. Had a set back or two with some crazy family shit lately, but I'm managing. Though sometimes I think there isn't enough alcohol in the world hehe. Got my birthday coming up on the 10th of August, should be fun but I'm sad that I won't get to see my mate
as she has to work and can't book time off. I miss her
On the plus side I'm looking fowrad to a visit from my friend
in November, it will be his first time to the uk, so I wanna make good impressions etc. Not to mention just to have some fun.
Nothing much else to report. Hope everyone is well.

The crap that people say.
Posted 13 years agoHave you ever stopped and thought about what people actually say? This afternoon I was in my room and merely walked from my desk towards the window and heard this from my dad dowstairs... "Andrew! You'll come through the ceiling in a minute!". What a ludicrous thought, there are things wrong with that...
A) Why would the house have such an obvious structural flaw in a very specific place? Even if it did it would have already happened by now and have little to do with me walking too hard but more to do with crap building standards if the ceiling can't hold the weight of a 240lb grown man.
B) Is this something that randomly happens or has he predicted that it will definatly WILL happen?
C) Has it really come to the point in which a bloke can't walk accross his own bedroom without someone complaining about it?
As you can see it is the same catogory of bullshit as "You'll poke someone's eye out with that" or "It's too cold to snow" or "Eating carrots will help you see in the dark". The middle one in particular is very annoying, people who say that deserve a slap at the back of the head. I really think at times people who say stuff like that are contributing to the decline of society, take poking someones eye out for instance. Even if somehow by carrying say a knife, a ladder, a table (yes, I've actually had someone say that to me whilst carrying a dining room table to another room) or a chair managed to extract an eyeball, that only prooves the people who did something like that are total morons at best, doesn't mean everyone who carries something around is going to poke someones eye out.
Have any of you guys got any similar things that people have said?

Star Wars on Blu-ray
Posted 14 years agoFUCK IT! I'm gonna buy the damn thing when I can! I looked at a list of changes done, I watched the vids showing what changes have been done and you know what? There is only one that I think is actually BAD and I think we all know what that is (Noooooooooooooooo! ). I mean what the hell is the matter with changing the yoda puppet in Episode I? That puppet they used in Ep I was fucking awful! It lacked the expression that the original puppet in V and VI had, (which they kept btw in the blu-ray release ) so if anything that was a massive improvement. I honestly don't care if an Ewok now blinks, I couldn't give a shit.
The rest of the stuff doesn't really make that much a fucking difference if I'm honest about it. The fact that the same fans who wanted a massive boy-cot of the blu-ray box set have bought it anyways proves that the overwhelming majority of fans can either learn to ignore what they don't like or look at the maths of it all and realise the blu-ray changes for the most part are NOT terrible afterall (it's like I said, there's only really one change thats bad). I mean they knew about the changes way before the release and yet they still bought it, what a bunch of jokes! It doesn't change what Star Wars is at it's core, the quality of all six movies in high definition looks fantastic!
The fans went through this same rediculous routine in 2005 for the dvd box set, and what do you know? THEY STILL BOUGHT IT ANYWAY!! LOL!
I wrote this because in all honesty I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy it or not, but what changed my mind was that the sales of the Blu-ray box set have been very high. Record breaking in fact. So to use Star Wars talk for a sec "Fans, your thoughts betray you, your feelings for it are strong".
So Star Wars fans out there who still haven't bought it, seriously go buy it. The boy-cot is the biggest fail in the geek world... well since the last one.

Job or Career?
Posted 14 years agoIt feels like I need to make a decision regarding my employment search, am I looking for a mere job or am I looking for career? I'm not sure what to do in all honesty. there are aspects both good and bad regarding both options and it has left me in a state of confusion to say the very least.
You see... looking for a mere job to tie myself over until something I want comes along seems all well and good, but the problem is that I've been doing that for a very long time now. Since I was 17 years old to be exact, having a job at McDonalds whilst at college and university is proof of that. Granted I no longer work for McHell but it still feels like I'm just coasting by until something I want comes along. I'm 25 years old now, I don't want to be in the same bloody position I'm in job wise when I'm 30, and I know that's five years away but it's not really a lot of time and it will go very very quickly. So a career earch (even if it's not what I thought I would do) seems to be the better choice.
However... Job centres/newspapers/online services don't advertise careers, they advertise jobs. Careers in this recession are virtually non existant. If I look for a career and settle for nothing less then I could be waiting an even longer time and truth be told, I don't know how much longer I can stand being on Job Seekers allowence and spending every thursday being told by some total smug wanker that I'm not doing good enough to find work despite sending something off to a place nearly everyday.
I don't know what to do anymore, I really don't.

Would it really kill studios to make something new?
Posted 14 years agoFor years now comic book adaptations are being put on the silver screen, this year has been no exception with X-men First Class, The Green Lantern and Captian America. Only one of which I thought was good, have a guess hehe. But is it really asking too much for studios to make something remotely new? In recent years (now more than ever) it feels like this is what we're getting reduced to when it comes to movies.
And it's not just comic books, there's a reason I won't watch a single 'Transformers' movie. I'm a big fan of 1980's culture and music, I love the look and sound of the 80's. Transformers to me it is that happy mid to late 1980's memory, is it really that wrong to want it kept that way? as well as comic books it seems like anything from my generations childhood is being taken out of happy memory land and given an awful 2000's/2010's spin on the concept, then adding someone like Micheal Bay in the mix just adds insult to injury. I want to see brand new ideas, I don't want to see things that worked in the past brought back.
I now it's daft to have a proprietorial attitude over those things, and I'm not saying it purely belongs to my age range. But what is the matter with leaving something as a happy memory? My only real exceptions for that rule are Star Trek and Doctor Who, because those actually worked coming back.
What do you reckon?

Feeling better about things and birthdays
Posted 14 years agoJust say that I'm starting to feel okay about things, it's getting better. My car crash injuries are healing nicely, so no more trouble there thankfully. I just feel very uncertain about the future, or more accurately my future. I don't mind having to settle for any job right now, but I want to know if there is gonna be something else career wise on the horizon at some point. I could go back to being an actor I suppose but I'd pretty much have to start again since my last acting job was a few years ago, the competition and the expectations have changed a bit and also there's the struggle of finding an agent again since my previous one is no longer in the business. I took up teaching because I wanted a steady career option, but to be honest (even though there were great moments) I found teaching very unsatisfying overall, though the institution I was at my have had something to do with it. If someone has a compass they can lend me so I can find my way, let me know.
It's not long to my 25th birthday (August 10th), I'm looking forward to it being my Birthday (PRESSIES ) but I don't care much for the age. Though as
kitsunekit pointed out to me a week ago, 'look on the brightside, at least you can now rent a car' hehe. But there is a further brightside (at least for me),
ryanr will be hitting the quarter of a century mark a week before me, not that I'm petty or mean but HAHA!

Room 101
Posted 14 years agoUsed to be one of my favourite shows on TV, but is no longer on the air. Incase you don't know it was a TV talk/comedy where celebrities, actors, politicians etc make a list of things that they dislike and argue their case to be banished into room 101. The things they put into room can be People, tv programmes, movies, sports, pet peeves, fashions, trends etc. See the link for more information.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_1.....28TV_series%29
It got me thinking (mainly because of nothing else better to do) what I would put into Room 101 if given the oppertunity. So here is my list and reasons why... in particular order...
Olivia Newton John
I cannot watch the movie Grease as it is, but what makes it worse for me is that she has a main part in it. I just think she's a irratating lump of blonde wood, ranging from her over the top 'oh I'm such a nice girl I am' act through out the movie to the last bit where she tries to be a little bit naughty by having stupid hair (in which birds live in) and saying the worst god damn line in movies history... "tell me about it... stud" while making a crap effort to smoke a bloody cigarette. I die a little bit inside every time I hear her say that line. Not to mention her attempts at doing pop music later, that made Glee (an already sometimes annoying TV series) more annoying by having her guest star and singing that bloody song (you know what I'm on about). Of course, thats just my opinion. A line from the sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf says it so well, "it's better to have loved and lost, than to listen to an album by Olivia Newton John... because anything is better than an album by Olivia Newton John" hehe. She so needs to go into room 101.
Automated answer machines at call centres
It's bad enough that when you have to make a phone call to somewhere really boring and tiedious like the Job Centre, and that you know you'll just get connected to some total twit named Julian. But to have to go through some automated patronising voice giving you endless options that ultimately go nowhere or even worse after hours of button mashing the line is busy and they put you on hold to elavator music... or even worse than that Olivia Newton John! I don't know a single person who likes these things.
Whiplash
I've always wanted this to go into room 101 but my reasons for it to go in there have changed. I used to think it was a made up medical injury so people to have extra time off work. Now that I've had whiplash due to a recent car accident, I think it's a horrid, painful experiance that should be banished into room 101 for that reason. It's deserving whatever your opinion of it is.
Sunbeds
Just look at what it does, it makes Tv presenters and your average bimbo look orange!! There are some total fuckwits out there who still think it's doing your skin good... yeah right.

That can't be good.
How americans can't tell the difference between different english accents
I have more humour attached to this, because it's sort of charming in a way , but I still think it's somewhat dire hehehe. We can tell the difference between American accents, why can't you tell the difference for us? I say this because when ever I've gone to the states the only accent they seem to think exist is a cockney accent (I blame Mary Poppins for this ). I'm from the North West of England, where there are about a dozen different accents that all sound very distinct and non of which sound like a cockney accent lol In case your wondering my accent is called 'Mancunian' (as in Manchester).
and finally...
The Conservative Party (UK) and the Republican Party (USA)
I don't think I need to elaborate as such, they're both just awful LOL You know the rest.
If you have any ideas, please suggest

Car accident
Posted 14 years agoEarly this afternoon I was involved in a car accident. I was the front seat passenger when another car went into my side of the car. I have whiplash, seat belt friction burn and further damage to my shoulder, I'm lucky because it could have been a lot worse, but I think I should be okay. Though I'm certainly going to feel the worse of the pain over the next few days.
Just wanted to let you all know, I can still talk over instant messenger but it may take me longer to respond. Just to let you all know.
Thanks.

Being by yourself sucks!
Posted 14 years agoI'm by myself in a house, with family away on holiday (vacation) and with no fiance for several weeks. Being unemployed right now, not much cash and with friends all busy with work commitments it's been very lonely so far. I feel like I'm going a bit crazy, well crazier anyways.
I'm very much a social person, I like to have the company of at least someone. I need to at least talk to someone to keep myself a little sane (or as sane as I can ever get) just to make sure that I'm not the only person in the world. It's odd really, I have friends who like to spend time alone for an extended period, it's something that I really detest... loathe with a passion.
This is not me begging for attention or some shit like that. But if you can, drop me a line on FA or something like that. Just so I know there is someone else out there.

The worst acted scene ever...
Posted 14 years agoCurrently in a debate with a friend of mine as to what is the worlds worst acted scene in movies/tv. Personally for me this takes the biscuit...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egwD4jTo3GE
However my friend thinks it's this scene...

What do you guys think? and feel free to add something if you got an idea.
EDIT: and there's this...
